Can this be closed now ?

Bug#1052108: Replace with maintained fork

2024-07-19 Thread Sid T
For anyone planning to address this issue:

https://github.com/mgalgs/gnome-shell-system-monitor-applet is the
currently actively maintained fork of the unmaintained
https://github.com/paradoxxxzero/gnome-shell-system-monitor-applet.

The following commit message from the fork should clarify things.

Upstream had been MIA for years; its last release was in 2010. It appears
he has finally returned, but I haven't had time to deal with the new
version that was released two weeks ago.

Bug#1057967: linux-image-6.1.0-15-amd64 renders my physical bookworm/gnome computer largely unusable

2023-12-11 Thread Grand T
Hello
For my case:
Is that a surprise if the problem is that one?

wifi: cfg80211: fix CQM for non-range use

https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-6.6.6-Released
 Linux 6.6.6 is out with just a sole change for dealing with another headache:
WiFi regressions.

Linux 6.6.6 is out and its only change over Linux 6.6.5 released just a few
days ago is reverting the patch "wifi: cfg80211: fix CQM for non-range use."
That patch ended up regressing Linux wireless support with deadlocks in the IWD
wireless daemon hangs on shutdown, and related issues with user-space network
managers

Bug#1026077: firefox 108.0 fails to start

2022-12-14 Thread Dimitris T.
Package: firefox
Version: 108.0-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

hey,

after upgrading to firefox 108.0-1, firefox no longer starts.

console error :

$ firefox
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib/firefox/libnssutil3.so:
/usr/lib/firefox/libnssutil3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file

Couldn't load XPCOM.

i think this has something to do with dependentlibs.list... :

(firefox 108) cat /usr/lib/firefox/dependentlibs.list
libmozsandbox.so
liblgpllibs.so
libmozsqlite3.so
libmozgtk.so
libmozwayland.so
libnssutil3.so
libnss3.so
libsmime3.so
libssl3.so
libxul.so

after downgrading to firefox 107.0.1-1 from yesterdays snapshots.debian.org,
firefox works agains as expected..
(firefox 107) cat /usr/lib/firefox/dependentlibs.list
libmozsandbox.so
liblgpllibs.so
libmozsqlite3.so
libmozgtk.so
libmozwayland.so
libxul.so

Bug#982459: mdadm examine corrupts host ext4

2022-08-01 Thread Håkan T Johansson

On Sun, 31 Jul 2022, Chris Hofstaedtler wrote:

I can't see a difference that should matter from userspace.

I have stared a bit at the kernel code... there have been quite some
changes and fixes in this area. Which kernel version were you
running when testing this?

Could you retry on something >= 5.9? I.e. some version with patch
   08fc1ab6d748ab1a690fd483f41e2938984ce353.

Dear Chris,

I believe that I was running 5.10 (bullseye).

It looks like 5.18 (from backports) does not show the issue! (i.e. works)

Some more details:

I have now tried again:

host:
  linux-image-5.10.0-16-amd64   5.10.127-2
  mdadm 4.2-1~bpo11+1
chroot:
  mdadm 4.1-11

  Some more details:

  This time I did get some dmesg BUG output as well (attached).
  It does not seem to be the same backtrace on two occurances.

  I also noticed that the BUG: report in dmesg does not happen directly
  when doing 'mdadm --examine --scan --config=partitions'. It rather
  occurs when some activity happens on the host filesystem, e.g.
  a 'touch /root/a' command.

host:
  linux-image-5.18.0-0.bpo.1-amd64  5.18.2-1~bpo11+1

  (did not re-install anything else, except upgraded zfs, also from
  backports (since pure bullseye would not compile with 5.18))

  Does not exhibit the problem.

I have tried with both kernels several times, and it was repeatable that
5.10 got stuck while 5.18 does not show issues.

Reminder: to get the issue, /dev/ should not be mounted in the chroot.
With /dev/ mounted, 5.10 also works.

That was not my intention.

Actually, I don't understand why you say that.

The patch that I backported to Debian is the one you mentioned in a
previous message, i.e.:

https://savannah.gnu.org/patch/index.php?10130

What did I get wrong?

Bug#997697: libesmtp-dev: Missing dependency on libssl-dev

2021-10-24 Thread Jeremy T. Bouse
Interestingly this appears to be a long-standing issue as I can't find any
version since Stretch that shows libesmtp-dev depending on libssl-dev.

Versions prior to 1.1.0 did not use pkg-config or Meson/Ninja build
system for that matter. This was the first iteration of the new build
system changes.

Working on an updated version and hopefully will have it released shortly
for you try.

Bug#982459:

2021-08-15 Thread Håkan T Johansson

Hi,

I believe that I have been hit by this bug too.

What has happened for me is that the machine in question 'almost' locks
up, with a read-only /, and such that most commands to debug further never
complete due to waiting for filesystem action. It then requires a reboot.

'dmesg' has worked, and then shows ext4-related issues. However, they
were not recorded to /var/log. I generally do not find any corruption on
the filesystem itself when running fsck afterwards.

On the machine I have a number of chroot debian installations of different
releases. By pure chance I found that 'update-initramfs' was the trigger
for the system hangs. I could then repeatably trigger the issue again.
(Before this, it would happen as part of system maintenance (unattended
upgrades in the chroots), so just spuriously hang the machine.)

In my case, the chroot installations live on a ZFS filesystem. But the
host system itself is on (multiple; /, /usr/, /var/ ) MD raid1.

I have had /proc mounted in the chroots. But had forgotten /dev . After
mounting /dev (and /dev/pts) in the chroots, the issue has not happened
again.

The issue was when the host system ran Buster, I then upgraded to Bullseye
~2 weeks ago, hoping it would be resolved, but the issue was still present
after the upgrade. Only after that upgrade I found the update-initramfs
trigger.

I am running with sysvinit, both on host and chroots.

Currently, I do not have hands-on access to the system, so cannot inspect
or reboot it reliably. Should be able to do some further tests in a few
weeks.

Best regards,
Håkan

3. History of the system

I installed jessie on this server in 2015 and remotely upgraded to
stretch and then to buster.

# uname -a
Linux X 4.19.0-10-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.132-1 (2020-07-24) x86_64
GNU/Linux

As with others, I was able to boot into d-i rescue mode and reinstall
grub and then it booted fine.

I hope this helps. It was definitely a surprise to find the server
unbootable at 1am this morning!

Thanks for all the work!

Bug#874901: [GLE-devel] Probable fix for qgle seg faults with latest ghostscript versions

Thanks, Moritz. I uploaded a version today which should fix everything, it
has to go trough NEW, so it will take a little longer.

The Qt5 part was already working fine, only the part loading the
ghostscript library had issues. The library is located in
/usr/lib/, for example /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ on amd64.
The triarch part can be determined with:
ARCH = $(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_MULTIARCH)

I tried to pass this directory with a define to the cpp code, where it would
be used to load the library. The define worked fine (some issues with
quotes) according to the logs, but during compilation this was changed to:
/usr/lib/x86_64-1-gnu (linux replace by 1), which I could not figure out how
to fix or even what happened there.

So instead of using the define, I created a new header file during the
build, where a const with the correct path was defined. The only change to
the upstream code is now to include this new header file and load the
library with the const as path. That works fine (tested only on amd64, but
strace shows the correct path), and I expect it to work for all other arches
as well, as long as the dpkg-architecture call is correct.

This is the solution I have been looking for, even though it is debian
specific. But other distributions should be able to create the own fix based
on this. Now if I can get write access to the git repository on salsa, I
can push the new version there.

Oh, I forgot about the binNMU. This is not the version that will be uploaded
to Debian, that will be -8. I just wanted to give you something to test,
before I upload, and it should have had a version between 7 and 8. Well, I
guess you can still test it, since you need to install the deb manually
anyway.

In the AUTHORS file you write "used with permission" for the "photo".
I don't see this mentioned under the Sound Effects. Do you think there is a
copyright problem or not? If there is a problem, I would probably just drop
the package from Debian, I don't think its worth the effort to create new
images and sound files for this old package.

Bug#866758: Additional information kernel 4.9.0-4-amd64

In further testing, I found that I am able to boot into X11/Gnome3 if I
revert to booting Linux kernel 4.9.0-*3*-amd64. I will continue with
4.9.0-3-amd64 until the next amd64-related update.

I am an intermediate user with no programming knowledge, but somewhat
familiar with the command line and file paths. Please feel free to send
instructions for extracting additional diagnostic information as needed.
I'm also willing to install additional debug tools as required. Thanks for
your attention.

Thanks for your patch, much easier than what I tried: I removed abs() from
f2c.h and included cmath and using std:abs to the cpp files. Also I had to
do this in two files: fcontour.cpp and ffitcontour.cpp to get it to compile.
Your patch is less invasive, so I uploaded that now. If I could figure out
what happened to the upstream branch I would also push this to alioth...

Bug#873765: Solution to this bug

2017-10-08 Thread T. Joseph Carter
Hi,

I think this tool is probably important enough to Gnome users (sid or not)
that it's probably worthwhile to suggest a "patch" version that looks like
an upgrade from the 3.25 package that at least temporarily reverts to
3.22. For now it's easy enough to manually revert the package, but all
sources (dpkg included) insist that you should not be doing that.

I'd have suggested it sooner but 3.25 was right around the corner... I
imagine it still is, but it has been for weeks.

Bug#862576: etoys: Doesn't get beyond Squeak security key generation

2017-06-07 Thread David T Lewis
Thanks Bert.

Adrian, all,

Please treat me as a newbie with respect to Debian package support, but I'd
like to help with this if I can. I don't currently have a Debian
development system (I only have Ubuntu 15.04 on a laptop for the moment),
and my time will be very limited for the next couple of weeks. That said ...

The traditional Squeak VM for Etoys is actively but quietly maintained on
squeakvm.org, and I personally have been using the 64-bit version for years
without trouble. So aside from possible differences in the compiler
toolchain in recent versions compared to the older gcc that I am currently
using (gcc 4.9.2 at the moment), I am guessing that if we could refresh the
sources for squeak-vm with up to date sources from squeakvm.org, then we
should have a good solid VM that would support Etoys on 32-bit and 64-bit
Debian.

The easiest and quickest way to find out if this makes sense would be if
someone with an up to date Debian 64-bit development system could try
building the Squeak VM, following the instructions that I maintain at
http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/6354.

If this seems to be a good approach, we would then want to trim out the
portions of the source tree that are not relevant to Linux, or that should
be excluded for licensing reasons. But first please try following the
instructions on http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/6354 verbatim, as this will
tell us if the resulting updated VM is solid on Debian 64-bits.

I should also note that the build process relies on Cmake, so that might
present issues from a license perspective. I'm not sure what to do about
that if it is a concern, but first things first let's see if the updated
source work as expected.

Thanks!
Dave

Package: runit-init

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
   I ran `apt install runit-init` and then attempted to reboot with
   `/sbin/reboot`, `/sbin/poweroff`, `init 0` & `init 6`, all to no
   effect; no error messages were returned and the exit status of all of
   the commands was zero.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
 Reintalled systemd-sysv then rebooted into my Arch Linux system,
 chrooted into BunsenLabs then installed the package from the chroot
 and rebooted into that init system.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
   It worked :)
   The same procedure was required to return to systemd as PID1.

Bug#844501: alsa-firmware-loaders: udev rule causes race condition which blocks us-122 initialisation (with fix!)

It now appears that my udev-fu is even weaker than I thought: "hwC2D0"
is obviously an "arbitrary-card-ordering-dependent" reference which
breaks if my sound cards are discovered in a different order. A much
better alternative (that is *not* order-dependent) is:

SUBSYSTEM=="sound", ACTION=="add", ATTR{id}=="USX2Y",
RUN+="/lib/udev/tascam_fpga"

Apologies for the noise. J :-)

Bug#838047: Confirmed: breaks *all* tablets

2016-09-16 Thread a . t . chadwick
Confirmed. This bug breaks all graphics tablets in GNOME (at least). It
is not specific to the driver. See the attached logs.

Symptoms: when a graphics tablet is plugged in, within a few seconds
the running X session terminates. Examining the logs reveals repeated
segfaults from gnome-shell caused by libwacom2; the repetition is
classed as the session respawning too fast by gnome-session, which
gives up in disgust.

(As originally reported, sessions break with a blank screen if the
tablet is plugged in at session start too.)

Affected hardware: all the tablets I own, namely:

* Genius i405x (evdev driver, horribly broken)
* Huion H610PRO (libinput, normally works well)
* Wacom Intuos5 M (wacom, normally works perfectly)

Expected behaviour: I would expect no segfaults which kill X when
plugging in my graphics tablets.

I am using libwacom2 0.19-1, gnome-shell 3.21.91-2, and
gnome-settings-daemon 3.21.92.1-1.

Libwacom 0.22 has been released upstream, and may be necessary for this
version of GNOME. Please can that be tried? Libwacom mismatches have
killed tablet support in the past

Bug#821617: Bumping severity of PHP 7.0 transition bugs to serious

2016-06-09 Thread Jeremy T. Bouse
Haven't reached out to confirm with upstream but as the website states
"Swift Mailer integrates into any web app written in PHP 5, ..." I'm not
exactly certain PHP 7 is a concern. I have attempted to build latest
version 5.4.2 under Sid following the suggestions in the ticket and the
package doesn't pass lintian checks when it uses php-cli instead of
php5-cli. The build itself is using pkg-php-tools to build and it is
simply a PHP class not compiled code.

Justification: breaks unrelated software

After upgrade to gedit 3.20, gedit started to crash (segfaults) on startup.
Deactivaion or uninstall of the plugin makes it work again. The plugin is

Yes, I'd taken a slightly different approach but got to the same results
that you are currently getting. I have included your approach as it is
much cleaner than what I'd hacked together.

Still trying to get to the bottom of those remaining failures causing
the test to fail and the build to cease.

Bug#813339: breaking an essential service is bad enough, failure to document just compounds the error.

completely failing to document those changes, resulting in broken

there isn't even a single mention of this change ANYWHERE in the
updated package, not in the /etc/default file, and not under

/usr/share/doc/isc-dhcp-server# find . -type f -exec zgrep -i INTERFACESv[46]

i had to discover this change myself by running the init.d script with
'bash -x' (good thing i hadn't jumped on the systemd bandwagon - shell
scripts are beneficial, not a hassle)...only then did i have enough info
to figure out what the problem was and enough info to search the bug
tracker.

so, please, if you're going to make major changes to how something works
then at least make some minimal effort to document the changes.

I think the problem is in file
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/mdadm on line 79
(mdadm-3.3.2-5-amd64).
The solution is replace line 79:

log_failure_msg "failed to assemble all arrays."

by:

log_warning_msg "failed to assemble all arrays...attempting individual starts"
for dev in $(cat /proc/mdstat | grep md | cut -d ' ' -f 1); do
log_begin_msg "attempting mdadm --run $dev"
if $MDADM --run $dev; then
  verbose && log_success_msg "started $dev"
else
  log_failure_msg "failed to start $dev"
fi
done

And that works. Founded and tested on polish debian forum.

Bug#771102: upstream license violation

There are other similarities between the initial commit of abduco and
dtach, such as the code declaring abduco's client to server protocol:

[abduco/abduco.c lines 61-67]   |[dtach-0.8/dtach.h lines 89-96]
enum PacketType {   |enum
MSG_CONTENT = 0,|{
MSG_ATTACH  = 1,|MSG_PUSH= 0,
MSG_DETACH  = 2,|MSG_ATTACH  = 1,
MSG_RESIZE  = 3,|MSG_DETACH  = 2,
MSG_REDRAW  = 4,|MSG_WINCH   = 3,
};  |MSG_REDRAW  = 4,
|};

[abduco/abduco.c lines 69-78]   |[dtach-0.8/dtach.h lines 106-116]
/* packet sent from client to server */ |/* The client to master protocol. */
typedef struct {|struct packet
unsigned char type; |{
unsigned char len;  |unsigned char type;
union { |unsigned char len;
char msg[sizeof(struct w|union
insize)];   |{
struct winsize ws; |unsigned char buf[sizeo
int i;  |f(struct winsize)];
} u;|struct winsize ws;
} ClientPacket; |} u;
|};

and the same escape sequence trick that dtach uses to move to the bottom
of the screen along with similar code for handling the suspend key:

[abduco/abduco.c line 161]  |[dtach-0.8/dtach.h line 128]
fprintf(stdout, "\e[999H\r\n"); |#define EOS "\033[999H"

[abduco/client.c lines 126-133] |[dtach-0.8/attach.c lines 105-115]
} else i|if (!no_suspend && (pkt->u.buf[
f (pkt.u.msg[0] == cur_term.c_cc[VSUSP])|0] == cur_term.c_cc[VSUSP]))
 {  |{
|/* Tell the master that
pkt.type = MSG_DETACH;  | we are suspending. */
|pkt->type = MSG_DETACH;
client_send_packet(&pkt);   |write(s, pkt, sizeof(st
|ruct packet));
tcsetattr(0, TCSADRAIN, &orig_term);|
|/* And suspend... */
client_show_cursor();   |tcsetattr(0, TCSADRAIN,
| &orig_term);
info(NULL); |printf(EOS "\r\n");
|kill(getpid(), SIGTSTP)
kill(getpid(), SIGTSTP);|;
|tcsetattr(0, TCSADRAIN,
tcsetattr(0, TCSADRAIN, &cur_term); | &cur_term);

Note that in abduco, client_send_packet(&pkt) will write the raw
contents of pkt to a socket, and info(NULL) will write the "\e[999H\r\n"
escape sequence to stdout.

I'm not sure why this would be suspicious, however I do confirm that I
am the author of dtach.

Bug#771102: upstream license violation

2014-11-26 Thread Ned T. Crigler
Package: abduco
Version: 0.1-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.3

Hi,

abduco is derived from dtach, which is licensed under GPLv2. However,
abduco is licensed under ISC with dtach's copyright notices removed.

While abduco may be considered a rewrite of dtach that just has similar
looking portions of code left in it,
http://digital-law-online.info/lpdi1.0/treatise27.html says that:

"Many people have reimplemented computer programs by rewriting them to
replace the source code with code of their own writing. There is no
reason to believe that this would not be a copyright infringement,
particularly if the reimplementer had access to the source code of the
original program, even if none of the original source code remains."

abduco should not be a part of Debian if it is violating dtach's
copyright and license.

Bug#759745: gdm3: Unable to login post-upgrade without systemd-sysv installed

2014-08-29 Thread Jeremy T. Bouse
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.12.2-2.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Performed routine aptitude upgrade and had new version of gdm installed.
Shutdown laptop and upon restart was no longer presented with the login
greeter. Gnome environment would work by getting to shell and running
startx but was presented with a systemd-login error on the console shell
when logging in. Installed systemd-sysv which purged sysinit-core, rebooted
and the system was once again usable.

Suggest that there is a dependency not properly resolving in there to
ensure that systemd is running as PID 1.

Is that a threat?

Seriously, I don't mind where and how this is fixed. If you, as
maintainer think this needs to be handled in python-bzrlib, by all
means

re-assign it.
The current situation as it stands though is, that this combination
of

package is not installable, which to me is RC.

No, it's not a threat. It's just the fact that this BTS ticket has
absolutely nothing to do with python-paramiko package as it is
python-bzrlib that put a Conflict in place. The problem with paramiko
already has it's own ticket and it's being addressed by an upstream
ticket already as well. The python-bzrlib made their package
uninstallable on purpose and I can't do anything about that. Even when I
get the fixed version of paramiko uploaded and available through the
mirror network, python-bzrlib will still be uninstallable until it
releases a new version removing the Conflict. In my opinion that only
makes matters worse. Nothing I will do will affect python-bzrlib being
installable. Therefore this ticket is a "wontfix" ticket as there is no
"cantfix" tag.

This bug report is useless to paramiko as the Conflict/Build-Conflict
is in python-bzrlib which I have absolutely no control of and if the
maintainer has decided this route than even when I upload a new version
of paramiko that addresses the underlying issue which is already
reported as #750517 and has been forwarded to the paramiko upstream
python-bzrlib will still be uninstallable until it uploads a new
version. I'm therefore tagging as "wontfix" and will be closing it

Salvatore,

Thank you... I've taken a look at your debdiff and incorporated the fix
into my package repo [1] with credit given. I'll work on getting the
fixed package uploaded this evening when I'm back at home and can get my
DSA key out of my vault to sign it as apparently keymaster is having
trouble getting my new RSA key to be accepted.

I began to make the move over to GitHub after repeated unreliability
with anonscm.d.o when I tried to access it in the past and because that
is what upstream utilizes so it allows me to track both easily. I began
the GitHub repo from the anonscm repo copy that I had off-line locally
during one such outage and haven't bothered trying to keep it updated.
As soon as I release a new upload with the Vcs-* lines in debian/control
updated I'll get that repo removed.

Again this confusion would have easily been cleared up with an email
to the maintainer, who as you can tell does respond to them.

I've been working on 1.12.2 even though 1.14.0 is released as well but
between
1.10 and 1.12 was fork, merge and change of upstream which has made the
process
as simple. Then complicated by still trying to get my new 4096 bit RSA
key into
the keyring and issues at work which have delayed my time to actually
work on it.

Attempt to help work within the packaging done within Git would have
been much more
helpful. As well I recall more than a couple tickets which looking
through would
have identified efforts being made before attempts to do a NMU without
having
first attempted contact with the maintainer of the package in question.

I guess I expect more of Debian Developers but this seems to be a
continuing trend
those that have joined the project within the past 3-5 years now. I
might suggest
going back to the Developers Corner and re-reading the content... Maybe
starting
with https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/pkgs.html#nmu

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for paramiko (versioned as 1.10.1-1.1) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/5. Please feel free to tell me if I
should delay it longer.

If this work was not done through the very public, very accessible Git

made mine harder as I've already been working on 1.10.1. So for wasting
the time that I do have I thank you.

Bug#720800: cadaver: Please update linker flag(s) for FTBFS

2013-11-26 Thread Daniel T Chen
Package: cadaver
Followup-For: Bug #720800
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu trusty ubuntu-patch

Dear Maintainer,

In Ubuntu 14.04, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following:

  * Adjusted lib linking order to resolve FTBFS with --as-needed;
- Also removed d/rules addition for -lgcrypt based on above change.

Because Ubuntu uses ld --as-needed by default, the change made in the
current sid version still FTBFS in Ubuntu 14.04. The above change made
in the current Ubuntu version successfully builds in both jessie and
Ubuntu 14.04.

This patch may contain extraneous metadata; if so, kindly please
disregard those portions. Thanks for considering the patch!

Attached is a trivially tweaked patch for Debian unstable that resolves
the reported symptom.

  * Build depend on docbook-to-man, fixes FTBFS (Closes: #691809)

Thanks for considering the patch.

Bug#682050: nmu

2012-11-13 Thread Jeremy T. Bouse
Now see if you had contacted the maintainer prior to performing the NMU
upload you would have found out that your information was in fact
flawed. BTS #690080 was to inform of the new upstream maintainer only a
month ago and I've been in contact privately. Furthermore 1.9 was only
released within the last week by said new upstream maintainer. That my
friend is why you contact the maintainer and find out if assistance is
in fact needed or else you're just mucking shit up and pissing the
maintainer off considerably.

I read the bug traffic, and the latest maintainer activity was four
months ago. That's usually a strong indicator that the package needs
help.

The RC issues were introduced by a previous NMU, the issues are
resolved in
the new upstream release so as far as I'm concerned their "wont-fix"
issues

in this version.

I understand that this was introduced by the prior nmu, and that's
why

this nmu is reverting that broken one.

But as I'm turning the package over to you, do what you like.

You may as well orphan it so it can get cared for either by the QA
team or someone who really cares about it.

Best wishes,
Mike

I did this nmu to try to help make progress against the huge list of
rc issues we have in many packages. I'm not that interested in this
one so much.

I'll be updating the debian/control file with the 1.9.0 upstream
release as

soon as I've completed it.

The release team will probably not accept new upstream versions at
this point in the freeze.

Since you've put a gun to my head with the 8 day delay hopefully
I'll get
all the bugs worked out of it before I upload it and let you take
over.

That delay wasn't meant to be pressuring. It was just a choice that
seemed kind of long. Please feel free to go ahead and cancel it if
you need more time.

Best wishes,
Mike

Quite the contrary. The message you just replied to is my contact
prior to the nmu. It has not happened yet. It is currently in a
kind

of limbo land called deferred. Importantly, you have the power to
review it there and cancel it if you don't like it:
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/en/man1/dcut.1.html

If you had you would have been informed that I'm waiting on
the new upstream maintainer to make the release merging paramiko and
it's
fork that would fix most of the issues with the current code base
the
patches introduced by the last NMU improperly fixed and caused
regressions.

Thanks for the info.

Bug#682050: fails to connect to server using non default port

2012-07-28 Thread Jeremy T. Bouse
I would tend to agree with your assessment of the situation. I need to
go back and evaluate it all as I wasn't the one that added the patch, it
was done by an NMU without my involvement which is why I dislike NMUs
being done on my packages as they tend to introduce more issues than solve.

Any reason you felt that you couldn't actually follow the process I'd
already established to submit the patch to the VCS that the package is
maintained out of? I purposely put the package maintenance on
git.debian.org within collab-maint so that any DD could submit commits
for the package back. You obviously looked at the BTS so did you not
bother to check out the PTS and see it was in VCS?

Then please give me a hint on what I should fix. I can not reproduce this on
the only available Debian sparc box. It still builds fine in the sid chroot
on smetana.debian.org. What is the difference between smetana and the sparc
buildds, shouldn't they behave identically?

No response from you or the original bug reporter for over a week, does this
mean you agree with my conclusion that the sparc buildd is broken?

I think the problem is not gle-graphics but the sparc buildd, I can not
reproduce the build failure on the sparc porter box. Can you explain to me
why it fails on the buildd, but not on the porter box? Or can you tell me
what should be changed in the package? Please try to build it on a
different sparc machine, I can successfully build it on smetana.debian.org,
and I do not have access to any other sparc machine. My explanation is that
the sparc buildd is broken, I have seen that before when I was running m68k
buildds. The only other explanation, in case the sparc buildd is not
broken, would be that the porter box is broken so that it produces working
packages. I think this is less likely.

I have uploaded a new version of gle-graphics and it fails to build with the
same problem on sparc:

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=gle-graphics&arch=sparc&ver=4.2.4c-1&stamp=1336781297

However, when I build it on smetana, the only reachable sparc porter box, it
builds just fine in the sid chroot. Thus, I can not reproduce your bug, is
it possible that the sparc buildd is broken? If not, this would mean that
smetana is broken, causing gle-graphics to build successfully. Or do you
have another explanation?

Bug#659784: Same here - libblas3 #659784

2012-05-08 Thread Mahesh T. Pai
Hi.

Having same problem here. Not opening another bug, since this is
alread reported; but this deserves the "important" tag because it is
now breaking other packages. I am however refraining from doing so
because I am no expert on packaging policy.

This system is updated to experimental very frequently (2/3 times a
week); but this issue has appeared only today - with the last upgrade
3/4 days back.

Since this is breaking other packages, hope this will be taken as an
important bug.

Had not noticed what is going on, so do not have what exactly
transpired with the upgrade command. I suspect it is irrelevant
anyway.

Thanks in advance.

Bug#647802: plplot library is required but was not found

2011-11-07 Thread Daniel T Chen
Package: gnudatalanguage
Version: 0.9.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #647802
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu precise ubuntu-patch

In Debian sid, the attached patch can be applied to achieve the following:

  * Add use_std_namespace patch to resolve FTBFS. Backported upstream
r1.27 src/gdlgstream.cpp, r1.28 src/gdlgstream.hpp,
r1.46 src/devicex.hpp, r1.17 src/devicez.hpp, r1.17 src/deviceps.hpp,
r1.6 src/devicesvg.hpp. (Closes: #647802)

Note that the source package does not FTBFS due to a configure error (which
was unreproducible locally in a current sid amd64 sbuild) but due to namespace
ambiguities that are fixed upstream already. Thanks for considering the patch.

Bug#625362: ftbfs with gcc-4.6 -Werror

2011-11-04 Thread Daniel T Chen
Package: langupdate
Version: 0.1.0
Followup-For: Bug #625362
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu precise ubuntu-patch

In Debian sid, the attached patch can be applied to achieve the following:

  * Fix unused-but-set-variable warnings revealed by -Wall CFLAGS.
(Closes: #625362)

The bug report's original title and summary are incorrect. The source
package builds fine, at least locally in current sid sbuilds of amd64
and armel, so the only things from the build log that potentially are
problematic are revealed by -Wall.

Thanks for considering the patch.

Bug#646135: FTBFS: configure: error: readline not found

2011-10-28 Thread Daniel T Chen
Package: dvbstreamer
Version: 2.1.0-2
Followup-For: Bug #646135
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu precise ubuntu-patch

In Debian sid, the attached patch can be applied to achieve the following:

  * no_ncurses.patch: Don't look for or link against ncurses; it isn't
even used. (Closes: #646135)
  * debian/control: Because the majority of dvbstreamer's source is
GPLv2, we must use libreadline-gplv2-dev as a build-dependency.

Thanks for considering the patch.
