Not that I've observed. However, the normal cursor cannot hang off the top
edge, because it has its hot spot at the top of the cursor image. That may
 or
may not relate to the bug.

It probably does, this sounds like a bug in the radeon MergedFB code
choosing which CRTC(s) to show the cursor on.

Josh,

There's xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.7.92 in experimental with RandR-1.2
support. Since RandR-1.2 does more and better than MergedFB, MergedFB
support has been dropped from this latest driver. Your problem might go
away then. Could you test it? You will have to upgrade to Xorg
7.3/Xserver 1.4 which were uploaded to unstable 2 days ago.

Ah, ok. So 1.3.99 isn't from the server-1.3-branch.
Maybe I'll have a look at it.

As expected, xserver-xorg-core 1.4 advertises:
X.Org X Server 1.4.0
Release Date: 5 September 2007
It looks good to me. Only the release candidates 1.3.99.x in
experimental were strangely numbered.

Bug#440340: xserver-xorg: xsession dies when trying to change contrast in mplayer

2007-09-18 Thread Brice Goglin
Holger Levsen wrote:
 Package: xserver-xorg
 Version: 1:7.2-5

 Hi,

 just quoting from irc:

I just discovered he can kill his complete xsession by pressing 1 in
mplayer. handy! ;-) now i read in the mplayer manpage that this is
supposed to change the contrast :-) i'm using the x11 driver in
  mplayer...

I'm running a mix of packages from etch over rebuilds from unstable (some
 xorg
bits) to rebuilds from experiemental (whats needed for
xserver-xorg-video-ati) - maybe someone can reproduce this bugreport in
 a clean(er) experimental environment?!

This is at the end of Xorg.0.log.old, after I logged in again:
 Backtrace:
 0: /usr/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x80) [0x80b2590]
 1: /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 [0xb7ce48a8]
 2: /usr/bin/X [0x80ce04f]
 3: [0xfd00fd00]

Catching a debugging backtrace with gdb attached from ssh, after
installing xserver-xorg-core-dbg, would be very helpful. The above
backtrace contains nothing. It makes me think it could be a nasty ABI
breakage or so, caused by your rebuilding of many packages.

Anyway, I never could reproduce this bug at all, either with Xorg
7.2/Xserver 1.3, or with the new X.org 7.3/Xserver 1.4 packages from
unstable. Could you rebuild these new packages for your system and see
if the problem goes away? If you're not sure which packages needs
rebuilding, please ask us...

Since I upgraded to this version from the one corresponding to X.org 7.2, I
noted that pressing Ctrl-Alt-key in this order was not working as before, it
only took the Ctrl into account. Reversing the order however and pressing
Alt-Ctrl-key works as expected. Xkbwatch confirms that the server is not
recognizing (or receiving?) the event for the alt key while ctrl is pressed.
Other modifier keys work instead.

Bug#442963: xserver-xorg-input-kbd: order matters when pressing Ctrl + Alt

2007-09-18 Thread Brice Goglin
On 9/18/07, Javier Kohen [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Since I upgraded to this version from the one corresponding to X.org 7.2,
I noted that pressing Ctrl-Alt-key in this order was not working as
before, it only took the Ctrl into account. Reversing the order however and
pressing Alt-Ctrl-key works as expected. Xkbwatch confirms that the server
is not recognizing (or receiving?) the event for the alt key while ctrl is
pressed. Other modifier keys work instead.

I can't reproduce this here. Ctrl+Alt and Alt+Ctrl do the same, both in
xkbwatch and in real applications. Do you have anything in your xorg.conf or
desktop environment to change the keyboard layout/behavior?

Please send the whole output of
   /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 31
so that we see your whole config and log (the reportbug tool should have do
that for you, by the way).

thanks,
Brice

Hi !

I tried again yesterday evening and the commands below solved the issue :
$ gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/compiz
$ gconftool --set /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins \
  --type list --list-type string \

'[gconf,png,svg,decoration,wobbly,fade,minimize,cube,rotate,zoom,scale,move,place,switcher,screenshot,resize]'

It might help if these commands where in the README.Debian file to easily
reset compiz config with a default one.

Thanks !

Bug#443019: xserver-xorg-video-ati: fails to produce image on ATI Radeon X600 + DVI setup

2007-09-18 Thread Paul van Tilburg
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.6.193-3
Severity: important

Hi,

Today my whole X setup got updated to Xorg 7.3.
However, the ATI driver (version 6.6.193-3) fails to produce a signal/image
and my DVI screen (a Dell 1907FP) switches to standby mode. The logs and
config seem fine, so I assume this is a specific driver issue.

I was able to fix this by grabbing the driver (version 6.7.192-4)
from experimental. It is working fine now.

Paul

Having a graphical config tool would help a lot too. It should arrive
soon with compizfusion fortunately.

And, we should have a sane default config, i.e. at least enable the
decoration plugin so that window gets decoration.

[ati xorg] How to have dual monitor now with the new driver ?

2007-09-18 Thread Giggz

Hi,

With the old driver I use MergedFB in order to have a big desktop. I
have a laptop and a CRT. With normal configuration I get (with the old
driver) clone mode when I turn on my CRT. With a different Xorg.conf
(see xorg.conf at the end) I could have an extended desktop on my LCD
and my CRT. I have read that now the MergedFB option have been diseabled
and we must use RandR...how can I do that, in order to have an extended
desktop ? (with two different resolutions...)

Thx a lot,
Regards,
Guillaume

They come from xorg.conf, see below.

No, they don't, if I leave them as default on the Gnome side, somehow
some of them are reset. As you can see, the set is different to the one
below, since altwin is one that does not get overridden by Gnome. Yeah,
I should report that bug to the Gnome guys while I'm at this.

  Yeah, but it didn't.

Did you use reportbug or reportbug-ng?

$ dpkg -s $(dpkg -S $(which reportbug) | cut -f 1 -d :) | grep -E
'^(Package|Version)'
Package: reportbug
Version: 3.39

Does it help if you comment XkbOptions out? (or maybe just remove
 ctrl:swapcaps)

I disabled ctrl:swapcaps from Gnome and it does fix the issue indeed.
However, I love this setting :)

Thanks for your time,

The upstream developer says such a regression is not expected. He wants
to know whether you upgraded xkb-data at the same time. Or did you just
upgrade xserver-xorg* things? /var/log/dpkg.log or /var/log/aptitude
should help you figure this out.

Downgrading xkb-data to the one in testing (1.0~cvs.20070721-1 instead
of 1.0~cvs.20070916-1) might be worth a try.

I had upgraded this package, so I just reverted it to the version you

but the problem persists.

This looks better. Can you add a 'Virtual 1600 1600' line to the

Bug#443044: x11-xserver-utils: xmodmap run at X startup no longer takes effect

When starting X, running xmodmap from e.g. ~/.xsession no longer
changes any mappings. Strange thing is, running xmodmap from a
terminal after X has started still works.

This could be due to a server reset which happens whenever the last
client disconnects. A server reset is usually noticeable due to the
server re-programming the video mode. You can avoid resets by starting
the Xserver with the -noreset command line option or by keeping a client
running in the background.

In the Screen section, add:
Option Monitor-VGA my vga monitor
Then add a new section like this:
Section Monitor
Identifier my vga monitor
Option PreferredMode 1600x1200
EndSection

This is from memory, so I might have misremembered something; see
xorg.conf(5) for the details.

Bug#443059: GDM and the keyboard freezes while trying to load xwindows

2007-09-18 Thread Jorge González González
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.6.193-3

When the system launches GDM after starting the computer, if the video
driver is ati the screen goes black, like if there was no signal, and
the keyboard doesnt respond. With the video driver vesa there is no
problem.

It happens since I upgraded xserver-xorg-video-ati (and many other xorg
packages due to yesterdays upgrade).

Running Linux 2.6.21-1-686 #1 and libc6 2.6.1-5.
I have an ATI RADEON 7000 graphics card.

Currently in unstable there are three packages left that use xaw6:

All these three packages now use libxaw7.

However, screenkast now exists, and uses libxaw6. I'll file a bug against it.

Bug#442907: xserver-xorg-video-mga: Multihead doesn't work on G450

2007-09-18 Thread Jarmo Ilonen
I noticed the same problem with Matrox G550 and driver
xserver-xorg-video-mga 1:1.4.7.dfsg.1-3, only the first monitor works
while Xorg.0.log does not report any problems about the second.

Trying with the driver version from the experimental
(1:1.9.99.dfsg.1-1) with the same config gives some kind of clone mode
with weird resolutions for two monitors with several graphical
glitches. I tried to change the config with grandr but it did not
give any other choice than the clone mode, but this might be fault of
grandr and not the driver. The man-page of xrandr does not look very
inviting so I did not yet try changing the settings with it, and
instead downgraded the driver and some other xorg packages to the
versions in testing to get a working set up.

Are these newer drivers likely to get fixed anytime soon or is the
medium term solution to stay with 1.4.6 driver? I am personally not
very motivated to try to fix or hunt for bugs in the experimental mga
driver (good reason to get rid of the POS matrox if anything), and
maybe nobody else is either for such old cards...

Bug#443064: xserver-xorg: Xorg not starting with nvidia propretary driver

2007-09-18 Thread Joshua Dunamis
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.3+2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The new upgrade to 1:7.3+2 version causes to me a problem with the latest
nvidia propretary driver both installing it by
the Debian way and directly downloading and installing it from www.nvidia.com.
In the log it is explained this problem:
this Xorg version uses ABI 2.0 but the nvidia driver works only with previous
versions of ABI. It indicates to skip this
problem using -ignoreABI option.
Now I don't now what's the ABI and where I have to put this -ignoreABI option.
Excuse me for my english, I'm italian.
Anyway X doesn't start with nvidia propretary driver.

Bug#443068: xserver-xorg: crash in FontFileCompleteXLFD (backtrace looks broken)

2007-09-18 Thread ingo
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.3+2
Severity: important

Hi,

since upgrading to 7.3 i got crashes of the xserver with the folling
backtrace.

- happen with VESA and ATI (below is the stripped down vesa
  configuration)
- xdm runs fine
- xfce and firefox crash immediately
- ion and dwm run for a while and eventually crash

The backtrace looks certainly wrong.

If anyone anyone can point out how to do better
(or how to use gdb to debug x on a single machine)
i would be willing to help.

regards, ingo

Bug#443068: xserver-xorg: crash in FontFileCompleteXLFD

since upgrading to 7.3 i got crashes of the xserver with the folling
 backtrace.

 - happen with VESA and ATI (below is the stripped down vesa
   configuration)
 - xdm runs fine
 - xfce and firefox crash immediately

gimp and workrave also crash immediately

 - ion and dwm run for a while and eventually crash

I was misled, ion and dwn seem to run fine without ever crashing.

xfontsel, gtkfontsel, blender also run fine

i would be willing to help.

The backtrace doesn't look broken to me... Debugging X without a second
machine with ssh access is quite hard, and your bug looks similar to
others already reported, and to upstream bug #12398
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12398, so for now I don't
think there's a need for you to jump through hoops to get a better
backtrace.

the keyboard doesnt respond. With the video driver vesa there is no
 problem.

It happens since I upgraded xserver-xorg-video-ati (and many other xorg
 packages due to yesterdays upgrade).

 Running Linux 2.6.21-1-686 #1 and libc6 2.6.1-5.

Could you try xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.7.192-4 currently in experimental?

Bug#442907: xserver-xorg-video-mga: Multihead doesn't work on G450

2007-09-18 Thread Brice Goglin
Jarmo Ilonen wrote:
Trying with the driver version from the experimental
(1:1.9.99.dfsg.1-1) with the same config gives some kind of clone mode
with weird resolutions for two monitors with several graphical
glitches. I tried to change the config with grandr but it did not
give any other choice than the clone mode, but this might be fault of
grandr and not the driver. The man-page of xrandr does not look very
inviting so I did not yet try changing the settings with it, and
instead downgraded the driver and some other xorg packages to the
versions in testing to get a working set up.

Please send the whole output of 'xrandr' after reinstalling 1.9.99 so
that we see all available modes for each output. You can change the mode
of output FOO with something like
xrandr --output FOO --mode 1024x768 --rate 75

Are these newer drivers likely to get fixed anytime soon or is the
medium term solution to stay with 1.4.6 driver?

I don't know about 1.4.7, it could be the last old-style MGA driver. But
1.9.99 will very very probably be fixed. It doesn't get as much
attention as Intel or ATI driver, but Tilman Sauerbeck has been taking
good care of it in the last month, so there's no reason why it would
change now. This RandR 1.2 driver is the future way to go, most drivers
are going this way now. MGA 1.9.99 is too young to be perfect, but it
should improve in the future. If you're really interested about this,
you might want to talk to Tilman directly, for instance on IRC.

Package: xorg
Version: 7.2-5
Distribution: Debian Lenny (testing)
Kernel: 2.6.22.6

Intel Driver:
ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.0-2

After running apt-get dist-upgrade and switching my xorg.conf to use intel
instead of i810 (which no longer exists) I no longer can run at 1600x1200.

I have tried the 915 resolution 'hack' but to no avail.

My xorg.conf is shown below and my Xorg.0 log is attached and bzip2d.

Any help would be appreciated as the highest resolution I can achieve is
now only 1280x1024.

It appears the i810 driver is now obsolete and no longer supported so
reverting back is also not an option.

Thanks,

Justin.

Bug#443090: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: Touchpad not working since today's upgrade

2007-09-18 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Version: 0.14.7~git20070706-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

My touchpad do not work since today's Xorg upgrade.

xserver-xorg-input-synaptics was upgraded from 0.14.7~git20070517-2 to
0.14.7~git20070706-1.

USB mice work fine, and I can see the touchpad leads to activity testing with
evtest.

Both the touchpad and the buttons have no effect at all in X.

I can't see any interesting details in the Xorg logs.

Cheers,
Julien

Yes, leds are broken, already reported at #442887, but keys should be
working fine apart from that.

Bug#443102: xserver-xorg-video-ati: Xinerama completely broken with 6.6.193-3

2007-09-18 Thread Andreas Pakulat
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.7.192-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

today I upgraded my unstable system and with it came Xorg 7.3 including
xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.193-3. After restarting the XServer I had a
garbaged display and couldn't access the second monitor-part. I'm
running a pretty usual Xinerama setup on a Radeon Mobility 9200, with
the external monitor being a CRT. I'm _not_ using the MergedFB mode as
that doesn't work reliably.

As you can see from this report I also tried to upgrade to the
experimental version, but that one doesn't have proper dependecies and
didn't upgrade the rest of X11. Obviously that rest is needed for the
experimental version, I got a segfault when trying to start X11 with
that.

So the only solution was to downgrade the whole X11 to the Etch version
(video-ati == 1:6.6.3-2) to get a usable system again.

I'm attaching my xorg.conf

Hi,

this is caused by a change in 1:7.2.ds3-1 to drop the server detection
code, which actually dropped too much...
I think the following patch will help, and I'll commit something like
that once I've tested it. It sets the shared/default-x-server variable
to 'xserver-xorg', which should allow dexconf to work again (at least in
theory).

Cheers,

Debian Live user wrote:

Tried running X on an Intel mini-ITX board with an LCD panel connected.
The panel was detected (however, the X log mentions CRT).
When X started it showed display artifacts - thin vertical stripes where
an incorrect part of the picture is displayed. These are shown in all
but the smallest modes like 640x480.

Did X ever work on this board? If you switch to the vesa driver, does it
work better?

Left control (which has been mapped to caps-lock by ctrl:swapcaps) and
left alt. This is a laptop. It has two controls and two alts. Right alt
works as compose. Left control suffers this problem, right control does
not (I hadn't tried until now). The problem as seen from xkbwatch with
unstable is:

1)
a. press left control - 6th row turns on
b. press left alt - nothing happens (6th row is still on)
c. release all keys

2)
a. press right control - 6th row turns on
b. press left alt - 5th row turns on (6th row is still on)
c. release all keys

3)
a. press left alt - 5th row turns on
b. press left control - 6th row turns on (5th row is still on)
c. release all keys

4)
a. press left alt - 5th row turns on
b. press right control - 6th row turns on (5th row is still on)
c. release all keys

The only difference is that in my old setup the nothing happens in
test 1 was a 5th row turns on. That is the method I always use to
activate C-A combinations.

I hope this makes things clear.

Thanks,

Yes thanks.

But unfortunately, I still can't reproduce. I tried your whole keyboard
config (except pc104), including the dvorak layout (which gives me a
headache :)), but I still get 5th row turns on in current unstable :(

This mode isn't supported in recent versions. Use dynamic configuration
 with xrandr 1.2 instead.

Re-Opening, IMHO this information belongs into a NEWS file, as it
completely breaks existing XServer installation and its not mentioned
anywhere in the docs of the package.

I'm leaving the severity as it was for now, but if you think this
doesn't break many systems feel free to downgrade to important.

Sure, same problem, do you also want the logs?

Yes, please.

A couple questions:
* do you have an actual freeze of the machine, or just of the X server?
Can you ping/ssh from another machine?
* does it help if disable DRI? adding Disable dri to the module
section should do the trick
* what kind of machine is this, and what kind of monitors are plugged?

test 1 was a 5th row turns on. That is the method I always use to
  activate C-A combinations.

I hope this makes things clear.

 Yes thanks.

But unfortunately, I still can't reproduce. I tried your whole keyboard
config (except pc104), including the dvorak layout (which gives me a
headache :)), but I still get 5th row turns on in current unstable :(

For the record I had tried a couple random keyboard layouts as well.
They didn't seem to make any difference.

I guess this will go away eventually. Thanks a lot for your time, I appreciate
it a lot.

Bug#443111: laptop: can't set brightness from within X11

2007-09-18 Thread Dirk Griesbach
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.1.1-4
Severity: normal

After upgrading from version 1.7.2-4 to 2.1.1-4 I can’t set the
brightness with the buttons supposed to set the brightness on my FSC
S7110. In VT I can but if I switch back to X11 the brightness is set to
the highest level. I can change the brightness from within X11 if I echo
the appropriate value to /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness. But then
after hitting the brightness control keys on my Laptop the brightness is
switched to the brightest value available and nothing else happens. It’s
switched to the highest value too if I set the brightness in VT and
switch back to X11.

This doesn't happen if I downgrade to 1.7.2-4.

Regards,

Dirk

Bug#443090: Fix

2007-09-18 Thread Andy Parkins
Hello,

I've just experienced exactly the same problem, but with a bit of playing
I've got the pad working again.

I had two mice configured in my xorg.conf, one for /dev/input/mice and one
for the touch pad. I had CorePointer set for /dev/input/mice. When I
removed it and put it in the touchpad section, the touchpad sprang back
into life.

Bug#443111: laptop: can't set brightness from within X11

2007-09-18 Thread Brice Goglin
Dirk Griesbach wrote:

You should probably use the xbacklight tool (xbacklight package) instead
of the brightness control keys. The latter might change things in the
back of the driver (through the BIOS), causing possible problems.

There are some problems with xbacklight though, for instance bug #438969.

This doesn't happen if I downgrade to 1.7.2-4.

Have you ever tried with previous releases of xserver-xorg-video-intel,
for instance 2.0.0 or 2.1.0?

Bug#442829: libpixman-1-0: Workaround?

2007-09-18 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: libpixman-1-0
Version: 0.9.5-1
Followup-For: Bug #442829

Sorry for asking here, but bugs.freedesktop.org has been down all day.
I'm curious if there is any way to temporarily work around this problem?
Installing an older version of the library, something like that?

Yes, we will have to document this for the release of Lenny. But it
concerns much more than just the ati driver. At least intel, nv (for
G80) and mga will have randr-1.2 support too. And upstream is not
willing to fix the server, although it may even crash with the old
Xinerama syntax in xorg.conf. So I guess we'll have a common
documentation somewhere for all this, not only something in the NEWS
 file of this driver.

Well, I think the documentation should've been done before uploading to
unstable. At least some basics ;)

So, I played with xrandr the last hour, but I can't get it to create a
dual head setup :(

I'll write a new bugreport for that.

You should read planet.debian.org, or at least my blog, there are plenty
of things about xrandr there :)

See my blog too, especially http://bgoglin.livejournal.com/9846.html

Did you add a Virtual line to subsection Display to create a large
virtual screen and then place outputs in there with xrandr --output FOO
--right-of BAR

No, Xserver 1.4 needs pixman 0.9.5 unfortunately. And there is no known
fix yet (the upstream bug is not very active...). The debian bug
severity has been increased so that people are notified of it before
upgrading, that's not much from our side but it's better than nothing.
We already got 4 people reporting it, so you don't have to be sorry for
asking, this bug is very important :(

I downgraded my X server, X video package and X input packages by
taking them out of /var/cache/apt/archives and installing using dpkg
-i. I would start by going dpkg -r libpixman-1-0 as that tells you
which package to downgrade first. Then when X starts it also tells you
which one has wrong version.

I'm back working again in X because of this now.

Bug#443122: xserver-xorg-video-ati: dualhead setup not possible with xrandr1.2

2007-09-18 Thread Brice Goglin
Andreas Pakulat wrote:
I tried to find howtos in the net, but there were onyl few, the attached
xorg.conf is what I'm using right now. As soon as I remove the comments
from the Options in the Device section Xorg doesn't start anymore,
telling me that Screen's were found but none of them had a usable
 configuration.

Using the config as is, does come up with the Laptop display working
properly, however I can't activate the VGA. All I get from xrandr is:
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~xrandr
xrandr: Output VGA-0 is not disconnected but has no modes

Google leads me to believe that I should disable the S-video output, but
trying that just gives me the same information, without any change:
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~xrandr --output S-video --off
xrandr: Output VGA-0 is not disconnected but has no modes

Unplugging the CRT and doing that doesn't change anything either.

The second attached Xorg log is from a failing start with the 3
 monitor-lines activated.

Andreas, who now has to downgrade X11 again :(

This seems very similar to
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=439322

You might want to try latest upstream git snapshot, TV-out should be
disabled by default there, so you might get some modes from VGA by default.

And finally, it would be good to send the output of xrandr, with and
without with TV-out disabled *at startup* (either in xorg.conf or with a
recent driver where TV-out does not get enabled automatically).
