RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Over Hold Weight, but Delivered

2006-07-14 Thread John T \(Lists\)
Note, if this is related to Hijack, there either there is a new bug in
Hijack or there is a misconfiguration somewhere, as Hijack only checks
outbound messages. NOTE: If you are doing gateway service rather than using
aliases, you can be caught by this. Another reason that gateway service
(Store and Forward) is no longer a recommended practice.

Thanks
for the heads up. Saved me from a heart attack when I went to renew in
August.  I would swear something is following me around related to major
price shifts. Webtrends, Lyris, iMail and now my favorite AV product F-Prot.
Guess I will be checking the docs and especially the archives
for ClamAV and AVG which I have ignored. Pay back

I am going away for sure.
Its NO way I will pay that much money to use a command line scanner.
There are no difference between the mail server version and the regular
version besides the license.

Its a rip off.

I will NOT spend 1750 bucks on Declude for that matter.

I guess I will be busy finding replacements.

Mine always just counts the one hit, regardless of whether I have 1 or

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] F-Prot Licensing

2006-07-14 Thread Colbeck, Andrew

I hadn't noticed that before.  This webpage is pretty
darn explicit, so yes, the pricing you quoted is correct! From the bottom of the page that
describes the corporate licences available:

http://www.f-prot.com/products/corporate_users/win/
F-Prot Antivirus for Windows on Mail Servers
To use the F-Prot Antivirus scanner on a Windows Mail
Server a F-Prot Antivirus for Windows on Mail Servers license is required. This
license category differs from the general F-Prot Antivirus for Windows for
corporate users license in that it covers use that the general license does not:
F-Prot Antivirus for Windows on Mail Servers applies to mail servers, mail
relays and mail gateways, i.e. computers that provide mail services to a
network, either for incoming or for outgoing e-mail.

High-quality, efficient virus scanning is essential for
any mail server. E-mail is the most common way for viruses and other malware to
spread. The most effective way of stopping the spread of malware onto a network
and beyond is at the server. F-Prot Antivirus for Windows on Mail Servers
includes a Command Line Scanner (fpcmd.exe) that can be used with third party
mail server software such as Declude and MailEnable. Information on how to use
the software with such programs can be found on www.declude.com and www.mailenable.com.

If you are interested in purchasing F-Prot Antivirus for
Windows on Mail Servers, please visit our order form and take a look at
our price
lists.

NB: Administrators should read question 113
and question
114 in the FAQ section of our Windows support pages before
installing F-Prot Antivirus for Windows Mail Servers.

Smartertools confirmed that I could use the free (1 domain/10 users) as
an unlimited gateway. I am putting in a gateway in front of my Declude
process to handle address validation. NOTE that IMail will also gateway
an unlimited number of domains as well.

If you do not have StopAtFirstHit enabled, then each hit adds the specified
points to the total. So, set the MinWeightToFail to 10 and apply 2 point for
each hit like:

#SKIPIFWEIGHT 10
MINWEIGHTTOFAIL 10
#MAXWEIGHT 15
#STOPATFIRSTHIT

[Declude.JunkMail] Number of times per test

2006-07-14 Thread IS - Systems Eng. \(Karl Drugge\)
I looked through the manual, but didn't see this defined...

I want a test that applies 10 points if a certain string appears in the
body of a message a number of times...

So if, for example, 'replikas' appears 5 times, and I want to apply ten
points only if that string is there 5 times or more, what part of the
test definition string do I modify ? Which variable determines that ?
Or, could I assign it 2 points each time it appears ? And which variable
is that ?

[Declude.JunkMail] Declude Config File (as shipped)

2006-07-14 Thread Andy Schmidt
Hi,

A few questions/comments on the Global.cfg of V4:

These config options don't seem to be documented (e.g., in the manual). I
can make some assumptions regarding some - but SPAMID?

SPAMID OFF
ENCODEDURL encodedurl x x 1 0
IPURL ipurl x x 2 0

The default configuration uses the following 3 blacklists.

IMP-SPAMip4rspamrbl.imp.ch
This one is used, but not documented in
http://www.declude.com/Articles.asp?ID=97

INTERSILip4rblackholes.intersil.net
This one is used, but the site has a note: "Undocumented but confirmed!".
So may be not a good choice if no one knows what it does?

JAMDNSBL
This one is used, but the site has the WARNING: Lists IP ranges for some
entire countries.
Any blacklist that whitelists entirecountries MAY be useful for some of your
customers - but it should NOT be active for ALL your customers "by default"!

Best Regards
Andy Schmidt

There are a lot of available alternatives to a $1,000 annual
subscription cost. I suspect we'll be history, when, or shortly after,
our current support agreement comes up for renewal.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Which way to upgrade - SmarterMail or IMail

2006-07-14 Thread Dave Doherty

(Speculation Coming) However, in SmarterMail (Which I am not sure of) do
Gateway domains count as a domain under their system? If so your Declude
Subscription may end up costing you way more. Anyone running SmarterMail
and Gatewaying how do the gateway domains work - do they count?

The last time I spoke with Smarter Tools about this, they said that the
free/demo version could be used as a "Smart Host" (ie: gateway), since there
is only the requirement for one dummy (or real) domain on the box to get it
listening. That would work for unlimited domains. I never pursued it because
they didn't have a mechanism for handling dictionary attacks and so it was a
completely impactical gateway from my point of view. I don't know whether
they have fixed that or not. I suspect not, because nobody in support there
even understood the concept.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Which way to upgrade - SmarterMail or IMail

2006-07-14 Thread Darrell \([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Goran,

I know you mentioned cost as a factor I got this yesterday and thought it
was relevant to this conversation. I sitll need to find out what they mean
by cross-upgrade. I think to convert my current "Imail" installation which
is not ICS to "Imail Server Standalone" it is considered a cross grade.

Under IMail you can gateway an unlimited amount of domains on a 25 seat
license since you have no real users accounts on the box. Your Declude
subscription on such a box may only cost you $199.00 per year for this
configuration.

(Speculation Coming) However, in SmarterMail (Which I am not sure of) do
Gateway domains count as a domain under their system? If so your Declude
Subscription may end up costing you way more. Anyone running SmarterMail
and Gatewaying how do the gateway domains work - do they count?

FYI - for those who have not seen the prices for renewals yet.

The cost of renewal of IMail Server Standalone:

25 Users-$349.00
100 Users-$495.00
250 Users-$649.00
1000 Users-$849.00
Unlimited Users-$995.00

All these are renewal prices. Here are the crossgrade prices:

25 Users-$435.00
100 Users-$620.00
250 Users-$810.00
1000 Users-$1060.00
Unlimited Users-$1245.00

The determining factor between the renewal price and the crossgrade price is
whether you have already migrated to the latest version or not.

By migrating over at no cost now, which you are entitled to under your
current service agreement, you will already be on the latest version and
therefore you would simply be renewing. (renewal price) If you stay on the
Imail Professional, you will be charged the crossgrade price, because our
system will still read your serial numbers as the older version.

You may migrate when you are ready at
:http://www.ipswitch.com/netapps/service_migration/
You will be asked the serial number and email address. This needs to be done
for each service agreement separately.

Darrell

Subject: [Declude.JunkMail] Which way to upgrade - SmarterMail or IMail

Hi All,

I am currently running IMail 8.15 HF2 and Declude 4.1.0. I got new server
hardware so it is time to do it all over again. I want to incorporate an
address validation gateway on the same box as my Declude system. I gateway
pretty much all of my traffic and host very few domains (on the same box).
Since I want all this to happen on one box I need to have two IPs both of
which listen on port 25, I do not want the Declude portion to be listening
on a different port.

So I would either need to upgrade to IMail 8.2x since it can listen on only
one IP or move to SmarterMail 3.3 as it can do the same thing. Having run
IMail for a while I am obviously familiar with the product and have scripts
etc that have been created for it. Having said that I am not committed to
IMail.

I have seen the recent thread about the thousands of messages in the declude
error folder with SmarterMail.

What are people having luck with?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

[Declude.JunkMail] Over Hold Weight, but Delivered

2006-07-14 Thread Don Brown
We have been seeing mail being delivered, when it has scored higher
than our hold weight.

The common denominator with these messages seems to be that it is
addressed to multiple recipients. These recipients are sometimes of
the same domain and other times of different domains.

We are running the latest 4.xx release with Imail 8.xx, but this
behavior isn't new to this release. We've noticed it for the last few
releases, although I'm not sure which release marked the start of it.

Has anyone else been seeing this behavior or are we just lucky?

Thanks,
