[Bug 801858] [NEW] high cpu loads on using security enabled USB drives

2011-06-24 Thread Alex Zaim
Public bug reported:

I have a JetFlash 620 8Gb Transcend drive. Whenever i insert it, the cpu load
gets very high. This problem persists in 10.10 and 11.04, but it does not
affect 10.04.

udiscs --monitor gives the following

where sdd is the user data partition, sr0 is a non-writeable partition
holding the security software.

Workaround: "sudo stop udev" lowers the CPU load. Seems to work fine
after that, but surely not an elegant move .

Additional info:
udisks version 1.0.2-4ubuntu1
udev version 167-0ubuntu3

Fix reported using "sudo hal-disable-polling --device /dev/sr0"

[Bug 801828] [NEW] ldap over ssl fails

2011-06-24 Thread Anil
Public bug reported:

LDAP fails when using it over SSL, port 636. In fact, TLS seems to have
problems too - but most of our testing has been with SSL/port 636 option
set.

Here is the configuration from the .xml file:

ldap://"; readonly="no">ldap://ds1-sjc.entic.net:636/uid=admin,ou=people,o=entic.net??sub?";
relative_uri="ds1-sjc.entic.net:636/uid=admin,ou=people,o=entic.net??sub?">

There seems to be a few different bugs open in the recent past related
to this. I've tried tinkering with the "ssl" property but without much
luck.

We have a few customers who use Evolution with our free LDAP hosting
service, http://entic.net/CF (CloudFace) and this is not a problem on
the server. The logs on the server appear to show clear-text data over
LDAPS.

[Bug 730733] Re: eog crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc_consolidate()

2011-06-24 Thread Muelli
I seem to be able to reproduce this issue easily. Just open eog with a
set of enabled plugins (Date in statusbar, Exif display, Map, Reload
image, Zoom to fit width) and close eog. It crashes.

With no plugins enabled, it doesn't crash.

With only the map plugin enabled, it crashes with the procedure
mentioned above.

[Bug 786934] Re: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdb1 is already mounted on / mount failed

2011-06-24 Thread Magnus S
This also happens to my friend when mounting my usb hard drive(ext3). It never
failed before 11.04, and it worked on 11.04 a while ago.
Looks like it has something to do with the fstab file not having a UUID for the
"/" mount point, as described at
http://www2b.abc.net.au/science/techtalk/newposts/795/topic795027.shtm.
Somewhat geeky methods may be required to recover from a incorrectly written
fstab - try it at your own risk.
Marking the report as incomplete as more information may be required to narrow
down the cause to this problem.

Indeed, I have to revoke my fix-confirmation. I didn't experience the
focus stealing in the first hour after the update but then it occurred
again. Now Evince sometime steals the focus and sometimes it politely
stays in the background. Strange, I couldn't yet detect what causes
which behavior.

[Bug 664448] Re: Evince steals focus when automatically reloading the document

2011-06-24 Thread jasonmc
I'm having the problem while running Natty, so I'm not sure about it
being fixed in the Natty package. In particular, it steals focus if
compiz focus stealing prevention is disabled, or if it's on a different
X screen then compiz focus stealing protection must be at 'very high' or
else it will steal focus.

The problem with re-opening on the first page of the document appears to
be fixed now.

[Bug 664448] Re: Evince steals focus when automatically reloading the document

2011-06-24 Thread Oben Sonne
I know I shouldn't recommend this, but one can manually install the most
recent evince version from natty (2.32.0-0ubuntu12.2) in maverick (get
it here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+package/evince). Based on
this dirty workaround, I can confirm that this issue does not appear
anymore. Thanks, that saved me a lot of #*?/§;~.

[Bug 666618] Re: evince doesn't include synctex support in 10.10

2011-06-24 Thread Paaguti-hotmail
Get the files from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1716268.
There is a shell which launches a python script to open evince through
the DBUS. The shell is basically useless if you integrate the editor
following the same XEDITOR syntax we all know and love from xdvi. Und
das wär's. I've tested with emacsclient, gvim, gedit and my own python
clone of GEDIT and it eotks like a charm. You might need to keep track
of the click events because they come duplicated and emacs is ot very
happy about this.

[Bug 801694] [NEW] DVD+RW blanking takes too long and ejects 4 times

2011-06-24 Thread David Balažic
Public bug reported:

I inserted a written DVD+RW , right clicked its icon on desktop and selected
"Blank Disc...".
In the dialog where the "Fast blanking" option was preselected, I clicked the
"Blank" button.

After one minute of DVD unit activity the disc was ejected and immediately
pulled back in.
Then again ejected and pulled back. And again.
Then it was ejected and it stayed that way.
After of complete 3 minutes and 20 seconds a new dialog appears, saying that
the blanking is finished.

In Windows it takes 10 seconds and zero ejects.

This is reproducible.

I can confirm it happens on Natty, nautilus fails to connect via "sftp"
when both ssh (command line) and gnome-commander connect just fine to
the server (Natty too, but also happening with a Lucid one). Sometimes
nautilus manage to connect to /, but fails to move to /home/$user. Same

Hi Pedro,

My apologies for the delay in replaying...I didn't see that there was a

I am using resolution 1366 X 768 (16:9), refresh rate 60Hz on my laptop

refresh rate 60Hz.

The issue still exists for me.

[Bug 798805] Re: Switching between users closes all applications

2011-06-24 Thread stratos
OK,

The issue goes away if I remove the "Lock screen when screensaver is
active" option from the Screensaver settings.

Apparently when the screen does lock, then the switch fails. If I
switch users when the screen didn't get an opportunity to lock the
screen then the switch succeeds.

For the time being, I have the optioned turned off, but that's just a
workaround...

[Bug 229187] Re: Evolution mailing list does not render accents correctly

2011-06-24 Thread Didier Roche
** Description changed:

  Uploaded to lucid-proposed:
- evolution (2.28.3-0ubuntu10.1) lucid-proposed; urgency=low
-
- * debian/patches/92_git_render_mailing_accent.patch:
- backport from upstream, render mailinst list accents correctly
- (LP: #229187)
+ evolution (2.28.3-0ubuntu10.3) lucid-proposed

  Test case:
  1. install the version from -proposed
  2. in the same or similar layout than described below, try to answer to a
mail address with an accent
  3. report here that the accent is correctly displayed in the mail view

  -

Under Ubuntu Gutsy, evolution 2.12.1, env var LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8

When creating a mailing list (shift+ctrl+L from the address book) and
you select a accentuated name from your address book to be included in
the mailing list, it is not rendered correctly in the contact selector
not in the mailing list view.

  Instead of displaying :
  "Sébastien ABEILLE "
  it is displaying :
  "=?ISO-8859-1?Q?S=E9bastien?= ABEILLE "

  Screenshot attached.

There are no problems to render a accentuated name in a contact entry,
problem is only with mailing lists.

I had a look at #146184 which is also a rendering problem in mailing
list display, but with html special characters, fixed in 2.21.90, which
  I can not test currently.

Would be nice if someone could try to reproduce it with Hardy see if it
  is still there.

[Bug 229187] Re: Evolution mailing list does not render accents correctly

2011-06-24 Thread Didier Roche
I don't think I'll have the time to investigate that one. It was in
oneiric with evolution for GNOME 3. However, the changes are quite big
between the version in natty and evolution 3. So I'm not sure it will be
easy to backport the fix.

If someone is interested, looking if http://bugzilla-
attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=187755 can be backported and
then subscribe ubuntu-sponsor to sponsor the fix in lucid will be nice
:)

[Bug 658166] Re: gdm-binary WARNING: Unable to find users: no seat-id found

Hi Pedro,

it's still in the deamon log:
Jun 22 07:14:40 PC15-17 gdm-binary[1147]: WARNING: Unable to find users: no

I am running 10.04 LTS. I do not want to upgrade to Natty on this

As such it is "still an issue". However: there seems to be no other ill

[Bug 785797] Re: Evolution cannot read aol webmail

2011-06-24 Thread Cliffm
Pedro
in searching AOL I found further instructions on setting up using other email
applications.
I added the ports :993 and :587 to the receiving and sending sections of
Evolution setup.
It took Evolution about an hour to sort thru all the emails, but now seems to
be working.

The only thing not working now is the cbCouch function

Thanks Cliff

[Bug 801602] [NEW] EoG always opens up in with a window height greater than desktop height

2011-06-24 Thread OC
Public bug reported:

Every time I open a photo, Eye of Gnome opens up with a window size that
is inappropriate, ie., too high to fit on the desktop. As a result, the
bottom of the window overlaps into the desktop below.

I use Ubuntu 11.04 with standard Unity install. My screen resolution is
1680 × 1050px.

I can reproduce this always, regardless of whether I have resized or maximized
the window in the previous session.
(this is just a minor annoyance in an otherwise great program, thank you for
publishing it!)

[Bug 801585] Re: evolution crash does not produce crash report

2011-06-24 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi,

Apport is disabled in released version of Ubuntu for a few reasons. It
can be re-enabled using:

'gconftool -s /apps/update-notifier/show_apport_crashes --type bool
true'

I'm actually not sure if crash reports should still be created despite
apport being turned off. Try this though and let me know if it works for
you.

[Bug 801589] [NEW] "Unable to mount Documents on iPhone" "Unhandled Lockdown error (-17)"

2011-06-24 Thread Mathieu D
Public bug reported:

When I plug an iPhone, I get two popups prompting on how to use Music
and Photos, but I also get a third popup warning about "Unable to mount
Documents on iPhone" and "Unhandled Lockdown error (-17)" (see
screenshot)

The iPhone is mounted well, I can browse it throught Nautilus, and I can
also use the music and photos stored on the iPhone without any problem.

Its just an annoying popup, and I wondered what it means.

This package is not part of the main repository, so it must be
translated upstream, and we should wait until it is packaged for Ubuntu.

2011-06-24 Thread Kevin Turner
Public bug reported:

evolution in crashing, but it doesn't leave an apport crash file, and the

collect enough information about the crash to be useful to the developers,"
even though I've installed all the -dbg packages I can think of that seem
relevant. (bug-buddy sadly does not tell me which are missing.)

[Bug 801396] Re: empathy-auth-cl segfault at libglib-2.0.so.0.2908.0

2011-06-24 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 778058] Re: Gedit can't understand special characters

2011-06-24 Thread Hilmi Erdem KEREN
Yes it's reproducible.

If you open a ftp site in krusader and than, open a file in gedit; gedit
takes the information itself (it's visible on the header of window) and
ask the password to you again (i was really confused here).

I make sure the password is right, but gedit says no. Then i realised
the password includes %23 instead of #.

If you enter a wrong password and say the program not to remember; and
than enter the password yourself; gedit then agree the password and let
you see the file.

I think krusader sends the password in a wrong way or something like
that.

Do you still have this time difference issue between the preference window and

[Bug 801542] [NEW] Left panel status should be saved between sessions

2011-06-24 Thread Mathieu D
Public bug reported:

The left panel (the one showing thumbnails, index, layers, etc.) is
displayed by default when opening a PDF for the first time. If I hide it
(F9), close Evince and re-open it with the same file, the panel is
hidden. This is expected, OK.

However, when I open a different file, the panel is displayed again. It
seems that the display status of the panel is only saved for each files,
and not as a global option.

This is not consistent with the vast majority of other applications.

But I can view shares using:
$ nautilus smb://some_host

Also:
$ smbtree
shows work groups, hosts and shares, but reports several errors:
...
cli_start_connection: failed to connect to VLADISLAV<20> (0.0.0.0). Error
NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
...
session request to NETSERVER failed (Not listening on called name)

[Bug 286774] Re: cannot see text, only line art

2011-06-24 Thread Mathieu D
The PDF uploaded by Enrique is displayed correctly by Evince 2.32.0 on
Ubuntu 11.4. I think that this bug "cannot see text, only line art"
could be closed.

However, as reported Mechanical snail, when selecting text the display
of selected text become garbage (not really garbage, as you can see on
the attached screenshot; seems to be a problem of size and color...).
But the selected text can be copied/pasted in a text editor correctly.
If its an Evince bug -- and if it's not a problem during the creation of
this PDF -- it'd be better reported by a new bug report.

[Bug 542296] Re: Cannot change brightness Asus UL30VT

2011-06-24 Thread Stuart Bishop
This is still an issue with Natty. The brightness control buttons cause
the brightness slider to appear and you can make the slider go up and
down, but the screen brightness does not change at all.
