[Bug 1555569] [NEW] Show human-readable names for store apps
Private bug reported: GNOME Software shows the package name from the app (the snap's name you can't change in the store) instead of the human-readable one (the one you can edit in the store). That is, the entry in GNOME Software reads 'ubuntu-calculator-app' instead of 'Calculator (Unity 7)'. The latter is specified as "Package title" in the web UI, not sure which field name it's got in the store API. It seems, though, that snappy does not have the concept of a human- readable name and it's using the "description" field for that. I'm not sure if that's the intention, or if it's expected that any store clients use the "Package title" from the store API instead. snapd gives the following information for ubuntu-calculator-app (in this case, sideloaded): { "description" : "Ubuntu Calculator app", "download_size" : -1, "icon" : "/2.0/icons/ubuntu-calculator-app.sideload/icon", "installed_size" : 581341041, "name" : "ubuntu-calculator-app", "origin" : "sideload", "resource" : "/2.0/snaps/ubuntu-calculator-app.sideload", "status" : "active", "type" : "app", vendor" : "", "version" : "IOBXFFOCRcXL" } >From James Tait: The human-readable package display name, “Package name” in the upload form, maps to the title field in the store API and takes its data from the same field in a Click manifest, but seemingly has no equivalent in a Snap manifest. The closest field in snap.yaml appears to be summary, but I was intending to extract that to tagline and fix bug #1303354 so we can surface that in the store API. The description field in the store API maps to the “Tagline” and “Description” fields in the upload form, and takes its data from the title and description fields in Click manifests, and the description field in Snap manifests. The name field in the store API maps to the unchangeable package name in the store web UI, and takes its data from the same field in both Click and Snap manifests, with the author’s short namespace appended if the extracted package name is unqualified. ** Affects: click-package-index Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: sdoc ** Information type changed from Public to Private ** Also affects: click-package-index Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags added: sdoc -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/169 Title: Show human-readable names for store apps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/click-package-index/+bug/169/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1057767] Re: Translations are not in sync with Gnome
So after some investigation, I've found out that this is related to upstream sharing. - For evolution, the issue is that upstream uses a versioned template name (e.g. evolution-3.6.pot), whereas in Ubuntu, to benefit from message sharing across distro releases, we use an unversioned template name (i.e. evolution). This means that upstream sharing will not work for Evolution, as the two templates (upstream/downstream) need to have the same name. I've disabled upstream sharing for Evolution for now, so that translations are imported from packages as they used to do. - For Orca, the upstream template name was ac-package-name, which points to a bug in upstream sharing. I've now corrected it manually to orca, which means upstream translations should now be imported, but we'll see if the name stays when the next byr import happens. - For GTK+, the issue was that the template names (upstream/downstream) didn't match. I've now edited the upstream template name to match the Ubuntu one, so that sharing happens. - For evolution-data-server, the problem was that the upstream bzr import was still set to SVN. I've corrected it to be for git, but we're having the same issue as Evolution with versioned template names. ** Summary changed: - Translations are not in sync with Gnome + Some translation templates are not in sync with upstream ** Changed in: ubuntu-translations Importance: Low => Medium ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1057767 Title: Some translation templates are not in sync with upstream To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+bug/1057767/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1063170] Re: Not translatable string "Purchased from Ubuntu One" in Rhythmbox
After a chat with the Ubuntu One guys, here's the situation: - The name shown in Rhythmbox ("Purchased from Ubuntu One") comes from the name of the folder in the file system - Changing the name of the "Purchased from Ubuntu One" folder (i.e. making it translatable) might then break sync with systems with a different locale - Simply making the string translatable in Rhythmbox would mean modifying the Rhythmbox code to allow translatable names for monitored folders. ** Also affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063170 Title: Not translatable string "Purchased from Ubuntu One" in Rhythmbox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+bug/1063170/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1057767] Re: Translations are not in sync with Gnome, leading to duplication of effort
Looking at it in more detail, it seems that there is not much we can do with Evolution, other than disabling upstream message sharing and going back to the traditional way of importing translations with package uploads. This is due to the upstream template name being versioned [1]. However, there might be a bug in the Orca import [2], which shows an invalid template name. Evolution is set to use bzr imports from the upstream GNOME branch. This way, the PO files are imported directly from bzr and shared with Ubuntu, which makes (in theory) new translations be imported daily. However, there seems to be something wrong with the upstream bzr import, as it's creating 3 versioned translatable templates, which means translations from the branch are not imported. For now, I've disabled upstream sharing for the evolution template, and translations should be imported using the traditional package upload mechanism. [Bug 753311] Re: In Portuguese language, Keyboard shortcut's information text has large gap between each word
This is due to the text being justified in that particular label. Since the next word is relatively long ('correspondente') does not fit in the first line, the space needs to be filled with extra spaces. This can be only but worked around in the translation: reword the translation so it gets better arranged in a justified text. [Bug 763042] Re: "Personal File Sharing Preferences" dialog shows untranslated because gnome-user-share.mo is missing
Yes, it's exactly as Gabor said. seb128 noticed that it needed to be reuploaded for translations to be delivered in language packs and we talked about it last week. The package was then uploaded stripping translations as any other translatable app in main, and the translations will then be delivered in the next language pack. I'll mark it thus as Invalid, but feel free to reopen it if after the next language packs it is still missing. ** Changed in: ubuntu-translations Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: langpack-o-matic Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: gnome-user-share (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: ubuntu-translations Status: Invalid => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-user-share in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763042 Title: "Personal File Sharing Preferences" dialog shows untranslated because gnome-user-share.mo is missing -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 659051] Re: Evince missing translation for "save current settings as default"
Is this bug still present? We should investigate why this happened (is the package not generating a .pot file perhaps?), but one thing we can do in the meantime is to manually upload the upstream POT template and with a bit of luck the strings will be shipped in next week's Maverick language pack update. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/659051 Title: Evince missing translation for "save current settings as default" -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
