[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1809712] [NEW] Not responding to input after switch user to auto-login account

2018-12-24 Thread Fikrul Arif
Public bug reported:

Step:

1. There are two users, A and B. A is adminstrator, B is standard user, B is
automatic login.
2. Boot into Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS, it will automatically login to user B.
3. Switch User to user A without logging out.
4. Switch User back to user B, either by logging out from user A or not.

Expected: it will be back to user B normally.

Actual: it backs to user B but become not responding to keyboard,
touchpad, or mouse input. Closing the lid is responded normally, which
is locking the screen, the three-arrows in the lock screen is animated
normally, clock is updated.

Title:
gnome-shell segfaults when external monitor attached or detached

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I recently updated to Ubuntu 18.10, and I seem to have hit a new bug
  with gnome-shell/wayland.

When an external monitor is attached or detached, gnome-shell crashes
with a segmentation fault and falls back to a gdm session. This
  appears in dmesg :

  [97490.001835] gnome-shell[9151]: segfault at fbc8 ip
7fdd607f7ea8 sp 7ffd8cf7b270 error 5 in libst-1.0.so[7fdd607d1000+2b000]

08 48 85 ed 74 17 48 83 c4 28 48 89 e8 5b 5d 41 5c 41 5d

I've also attached the syslog file, starting from where the monitor
was plugged in. Here are some of the highlights. First, the monitor is
attached, and gnome-shell reaches for St.Bin and finds it already
  deallocated :

Oct 24 12:37:00 evenedric kernel: [97488.486851] [drm] Reducing the
compressed framebuffer size. This may lead to less power savings than a
non-reduced-size. Try to increase stolen memory size if available in BIOS.

has been already deallocated — impossible to set any property on it. This might
be caused by the object having been destroyed from C code using something such
as destroy(), dispose(), or remove() vfuncs.

 self-hosted:979 (7fdd27cf01f0 @ 440)

This repeats several times with a few variations as the js interpreter
in gnome-shell falls apart. Then the gnome-shell process is killed :

  Oct 24 12:37:01 evenedric kernel: [97490.001835] gnome-shell[9151]: segfault
at fbc8 ip 7fdd607f7ea8 sp 7ffd8cf7b270 error 5 in

5d 41 5c 41 5d

This is then followed by the teardown for the whole session,
eventually culminating in bringing up a new gdm login session. If you
read through the attached syslog file, you can see the whole mess
unfold. At about 12:37:05, I plug in an external mouse. Then colord
makes a ton of noise for some reason, possibly related to the external
monitor. Then I fire up my Bluetooth keyboard and log into a new
  session.

This appears to be a regression. I've used this exact configuration
(gdm3 and gnome-shell running in Wayland, with an external monitor
that I use while I'm at work) for several Ubuntu, Gnome and Wayland
releases. This appears to be a new issue.

I saw above that this has been fixed upstream, what is the ETA to have
the fix in 18.04 and 18.10?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2018-12-24 Thread Santiago Londoño
I managed to solve it in my Asus ZenBook UX433F. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04.
I upgraded the Kernel to v4.19.11 as to Jorge Castro's answer to this question:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/119080/how-to-update-kernel-to-the-
latest-mainline-version-without-any-distro-upgrade

Here are the exact steps I followed:

1. Download the appropriate files from:

https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

For example:

linux-headers-4.19.11-041911_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_all.deb
linux-headers-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb
linux-image-unsigned-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb
linux-modules-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb

2. Install each one in the appropriate order:

sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.19.11-041911_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i
linux-headers-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i
linux-modules-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i
linux-image-unsigned-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb

3. Restart. In GRUB choose "Advanced options for Ubuntu". Select the new
Kernel version.

Cheers

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2018-12-24 Thread Michael MacEachern
Yea, while a simple command may fix it, it should not be present on an
out of the box install. A security bug as serious as this, should never
have been left to the administrators to find out the hard way that data
may be compromised because there was nothing in known-issues
demonstrating that this flaw even existed.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
When entering the lock-screen mode, gnome-shell disables all the extensions.
It can happen that under certain conditions ubuntu-dock re-enables itself,
causing the ubuntu-dock to appear in the lock-screen, exposing sensitive
information. One possible way to reproduce this is to enable dash-to-dock and
ubuntu-dock at the same time.

  [Test Case]
  1. Make sure ubuntu-dock is enabled
  2. Enable dash-to-dock too
  3. Lock the screen
  4. Make sure the dock does not appear on the lock screen
  5. Make sure there is no warning is the journal

  [Possible Regressions]
Even if it's something we don't really support please make sure that you can
use dash-to-dock without uninstalling ubuntu-dock.

  [Original Bug]

After an update from ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 the dock is aviable on the
lockscreen after user login.
I did not configure this knowingly. Also i can start every application which
is available on the dock.
Settings, virtual box, visualstudio code and so on.

After the update to 18.04 i just configure the screen frequency to
144Hz and the night mode on. And attach the dock on bottom.

I later undid these customizations back to configuration before, but
the dock is stil aviable on lockscreen.

it's still occurring as it's present on vanilla installs straight out of

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2018-12-24 Thread Yan Li
While I wholeheartedly agree that we urgently need an official fix, I
also want to point out that

gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock transparency-mode
FIXED

is an effective workaround for me. On my Cosmic, I have never seen the
dock again on the lock screen. I'm using vanilla Ubuntu docker with no
dash-to-docker or any other customization to the dock.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2018-12-24 Thread Michael MacEachern
Being that it's been 7 months since this has been reported, why has it
not been fixed yet? Are we trying to make Ubuntu's security a complete
joke? Because that's where we are heading with this. This should have
been fixed 7 months ago and top priority. There are people who use
Ubuntu in enterprise environments, and considering 18.04 is LTS, it is
disgusting that this has not been fixed yet.

Get your act together Canonical.

2018-12-24 Thread sanyaade
Yes! Same issue for my days and hair strands up

Solution: (same like Yaroslav and Danny) but my machine was a Dell 2950
server upgraded to 18.04 with Ubuntu desktop with --no-install-
recommends => this was working on 16.04 before upgrade to 18.04

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib/x86_64
-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGLESv2.so.2 /usr/lib/x86_64
-linux-gnu/libGLESv2.so.2

 lspci | grep -i VGA

Hope this help!

God blesses!!!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1737614] Re: Low sound volume with Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio (ALC3227) in HP 15-BS576TX laptop

2018-12-24 Thread dls4523
Bug is still present in 18.04 LTS. Very low sound/volume with this
sound card in Ubuntu. Works fine in Windows 10.

Title:
Low sound volume with Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio (ALC3227) in HP
  15-BS576TX laptop

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
I have a new laptop HP-15-BS576TX which has this Intel Corporation
  Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio.

00:1f.3 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP HD
  Audio [8086:9d71] (rev 21)

The laptop sound works perfectly fine in Windows 10 with realtek
drivers. However, in Ubuntu 17.10, the volume is significantly low,
that I've to scroll the volume slider above 100% mark in pulseaudio to
the maximum to get acceptable level of sound. I suspect the sound
quality also is low (mono-like), may be not coming from all speakers
(perhaps subwoofer exist for this model). Also alsamixer shows the
  speaker volume at the maximum.

Details about the audio hardware are below:

When *adding* a WPA2 Enterprise connection, the dialog that appears is
very similar to the “Security” tab when *editing* the connection (see
the attached screenshot). However, one field from the “create
connection” dialog is conspicuously missing from the “edit connection”
dialog: the “Domain:” field! (Marked in red in the screenshot.) In
other words, it is not possible to change the domain for a WPA2
Enterprise connection after creating it. The field should be present
  in both dialogs.

Ubuntu is overheating at my laptop. Opening youtube on firefox is

Using lm-sensors for monitoring on 18.04 the temp varies between 70 and 85°C

On my old 16.04 with same using, the temp varies between 55 and 70°C.

First thought was the driver nouveau is the problem, and finally I was
able to install by add "nouveau.modeset=0" at livecd boot options,
  without temp shutdown.

After install I disable the nouveau at modprobe blacklist, but the
system continues overheating and shutdown with basic usage.

I have no idea what's happening with the bionic at my laptop.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1808626] Re: Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating

2018-12-24 Thread P Touchman
I've been running the same setup and it runs absolutely perfectly if I
boot up with editing the Ubuntu command line in grub and add
video=VGA-1:e

BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-43-generic root=UUID= ro
drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=VGA-1:edid/hannsg.bin video=VGA-1:e

adding the video=VGA-1:e will allow the drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware
parameter to work and I get my proper display.

If I don't add the video=VGA-1:e line it will come up at 1024x768 mode
and give a "Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors".
After I do this following xrandr command and the stored configuration is
restored I get the flickering problem virtually INSTANTLY.

$ xrandr --newmode "1920x1080R" 138.50 1920 1968 2000 2080 1080 1083 1088
+hsync -vsync; xrandr --addmode VGA-1 "1920x1080R"

With the video=VGA-1:e the stored configuration comes up properly on
initial boot and the video drivers work perfectly, no flickering.

https://ptouchman.blogspot.com/2018/12/my-edid-was-going-unrecognized-
until-i.html

I'll post a video when I dig out my digital camera.

Title:
Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating

Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I've got a dual display setup, with one monitor rotated and I've been
running into some weird bugs. The screen will not update properly at
times and there will be areas that will intermittently flicker and
show old areas that should have been overdrawn.

Once it starts doing this, the only way to get things back to normal
  is to reboot.

Going into standby and coming out of standby won't fix it. Actually,
sometimes coming out of standby the screen won't refresh properly and
I'll see the whole screen get some triple-buffer epilepsy inducing
  flicker.

When I move the mouse from screen to screen and hover over the ubuntu
launcher dock so that it scrolls the icons it will flip the triple buffers and
the areas that have old data flickers.

I think the display is triple buffered and one of the buffers gets old
data. I can refresh the screen by dragging windows around manually
like an "eraser" where I'm using the window to "erase old data" but
this tends to get super annoying.

It seems to get brought out by rotating one of my displays. I have a
1920x1200 pivoting display that is rotated to the left. My other
display is 1920x1080 normal at position +1200+364.

I seem to hit this a lot because my monitor doesn't have a good EDID so it
comes up in ubuntu with an error message about crtcs (since it wants to do a
1920x1080 and it thinks the max is 1024x768) so after I set a new mode with:

  $ xrandr --newmode "1920x1080R"  138.50  1920 1968 2000 2080  1080
  1083 1088 +hsync -vsync; xrandr --addmode VGA-1 "1920x1080R"

Once the new mode gets added Ubuntu will automatically restore my desktop to
its old settings pre-reboot and I start getting the flicker/update problems.

I would imagine that the bug should show itself up if you do a few
rotate/unrotate displays.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1809656] [NEW] Small windows output corrupted in XWayland clients

2018-12-24 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04 Pop!_OS flavour, AMD RX 560, AMD Ryzen 5 2400G (video
disabled), proprietary AMD drivers 18.40, Gnome Wayland session, 4k
monitor.

I tried to use ubuntu-bug, but it says, that xwayland is not officially
supported package and quit. Feel free to ask any logs or command output.

The problem is, that the output is corrupted in a small windows, like
popup menus that contains less than 4 lines, or certain applications
that can make a window size small — like glxgears. This happens only for
xwayland clients, native wayland apps are OK.

See screenshot attached.

Title:
"extract here" doesn't refresh nautilus directory GUI

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

Directories do not automatically refresh using the right-click
``Extract Here'' method of extracting a tarball in nautilus. Users
have to press the ``reload'' button in nautilus after extracting a
tarball with this method. Bug could lead users to extract multiple
versions of the tarball into the parent directory before realizing the
  error.

This bug is similar to a prior issue with Nautilus not refreshing
after user creates files (cannot find bug tracker for this issue).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1739948] Re: Missing French-Belgian keyboard layout

2018-12-24 Thread Elfir3
I actually had the same issue while trying to add the Belgian keyboard.
I had to reload gnome-shell to get the Belgian input method despite I
had several other French ones, and the Belgian regional settings.

It's confusing that the Belgian layout does not appear automatically.

After my update on 17.10 I couldn't get a french Belgian keyboard in the
input sources.
During install time I have tried to find my keyboard layout by using the
"Type this key process" without success.
I have also tried all the French keyboard but none of them allow me to type
"@" or "-"... sut to mention main missing keys.

I would find it rather useful, especially with certain types of
outputs, if gnome-terminal would allow me to disable text wrapping,
that is so that there would be a horizontal scroll bar that would
allow me to see the rest of the text.

I don't know if this should/would include the commands you type it,
but maybe there could be a separate option for the wrapping of that.

There are other Terminals which support this, and I think it would be
really nice if gnome-terminal would too so that one doesn't have to
put all of the output into another program like 'less' or similar in
  order to disable the wrapping.

I am running Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 with GNOME 3.20 and would find this a
  very useful feature.

  1) Select EN keyboard layout - Lock the screen - Enter the valid password -
Success
  2) Select other keyboard layout (RU in my case) - Lock the screen - Enter the
valid password (lock screen shows that EN layout is used) - Password is not
accepted

Keyboard shortcuts for input source switch does not work properly when the
screen is locked.
Also, I tried to switch input source with the button displayed in the lock
screen - it shows as if the input source was changed, but it does not produce
any effect, the password is still rejected. Also, have checked that the Caps
lock is switched in the proper position.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Installing the Galician language via Language Support fails. The
reason is that there is currently two hunspell spellchecking packages
  in the archive:

  * hunspell-gl-es, provided by the hunspell-gl-es source package
  * hunspell-gl, provided by the libreoffice-dictionaries source package

Even if hunspell-gl-es conflicts to hunspell-gl, having both of them
available in the archive is not compatible with the way the writing
aids is pulled via Language Selector. The proposed upload in this PPA:

  https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/lo-dicts-symlinks

drops the hunspell-gl binary from libreoffice-dictionaries.

Bug description:
  Hello,

After performing latest online upgrade (November 11, 2015), some keys
on my keyboard perform erratically, preventing me to type certain
  characters.

  - Letter "s" shows as "s000"
  - Digit keys (above letters) trigger printscreens instead of typing, forcing
me to use the numeric keypad.
  - x key shows "128"

  Ubuntu is 15.10 amd64, kernel 4.2.0-17-generic

I am using a simple Logitech keyboard (Y-BP62a), with stock Romanian
  layout.

I expect that keyboard performs normally.

  Actual behavior:
  1. Emacs receives "."
  2. Emacs inserts a period into the text buffer.

  Other notes:
  1. xterm correctly passes "Ctrl-." through to Emacs.
  2. This bug affects other keycodes such as Ctrl-; and Ctrl-,

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1061472] Re: Ubuntu Mono font shows squares

2018-12-24 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some
time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.
Your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates.

It would help us a lot if you could test on a currently supported Ubuntu
version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the
updated logs by running only once in a terminal:

apport-collect 1061472

and then change the status of the bug back to "New".

Please add any additional information that you think might be relevant.
Alternatively, please confirm that this is no longer a problem and that
we can close the bug report. If we do not hear from you this bug report
will expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you again

Bug description:
  System Configuration:
  Operating System: Ubuntu 12.10
  Package: gnome-terminal 3.6.0-0ubuntu1.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. start gnome-terminal
  2. execute "emacs -nw" to start emacs in terminal mode
  3. type "Ctrl-." (Control-Period)

  Expected behavior:
  1. Emacs receives "Ctrl-."
  2. "C-. is undefined" will be displayed in the status bar along the bottom of
the terminal. (Assuming the tester has not bound this key.)

  Actual behavior:
  1. Emacs receives "."
  2. Emacs inserts a period into the text buffer.

  Other notes:
  1. xterm correctly passes "Ctrl-." through to Emacs.
  2. This bug affects other keycodes such as Ctrl-; and Ctrl-,

  Hi

This is not a pure bug, but an idea to made life of lot of people
simpler. More of that I'm not sure this is more related to Gnome
Terminal than Unity). But it's for me an "ergonomy" bug. I explain :

In my job I have to use Windows terminal a lot. As I do with 'term' in
unity, to open it I usually press "Windows / Super" Key and enter
'CMD'. Here is the "problem" : each time (very often) I come back on
Ubuntu I try to search 'CMD' in the dash to open gnome-terminal. Of
course : no result ! The idea is to have Gnome terminal (and probably
other terminal app installed on the system) being found when searching
cmd. This would avoid people like me to every time make the mistake,
and newcomers to Ubuntu (student in Network/Telecoms/Programming...)
would find what they search instantly what they search : better first
impression of being "home" when first days on the system.
