[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1809712] [NEW] Not responding to input after switch user to auto-login account
Public bug reported: Step: 1. There are two users, A and B. A is adminstrator, B is standard user, B is automatic login. 2. Boot into Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS, it will automatically login to user B. 3. Switch User to user A without logging out. 4. Switch User back to user B, either by logging out from user A or not. Expected: it will be back to user B normally. Actual: it backs to user B but become not responding to keyboard, touchpad, or mouse input. Closing the lid is responded normally, which is locking the screen, the three-arrows in the lock screen is animated normally, clock is updated. [Expired for gnome-shell (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799789 Title: gnome-shell segfaults when external monitor attached or detached Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I recently updated to Ubuntu 18.10, and I seem to have hit a new bug with gnome-shell/wayland. When an external monitor is attached or detached, gnome-shell crashes with a segmentation fault and falls back to a gdm session. This appears in dmesg : [97490.001835] gnome-shell[9151]: segfault at fbc8 ip 7fdd607f7ea8 sp 7ffd8cf7b270 error 5 in libst-1.0.so[7fdd607d1000+2b000] [97490.001841] Code: 00 00 48 8d 3d 77 78 00 00 e9 54 9c fd ff 0f 1f 40 00 41 57 41 56 41 55 41 54 55 53 48 83 ec 28 48 63 1d fb 74 01 00 48 01 fb <48> 8b 6b 08 48 85 ed 74 17 48 83 c4 28 48 89 e8 5b 5d 41 5c 41 5d I've also attached the syslog file, starting from where the monitor was plugged in. Here are some of the highlights. First, the monitor is attached, and gnome-shell reaches for St.Bin and finds it already deallocated : Oct 24 12:37:00 evenedric kernel: [97488.486851] [drm] Reducing the compressed framebuffer size. If you read through the attached syslog file, you can see the whole mess unfold. At about 12:37:05, I plug in an external mouse. Then colord makes a ton of noise for some reason, possibly related to the external monitor. Then I fire up my Bluetooth keyboard and log into a new session. This appears to be a regression. I've used this exact configuration (gdm3 and gnome-shell running in Wayland, with an external monitor that I use while I'm at work) for several Ubuntu, Gnome and Wayland releases. This appears to be a new issue. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all
I managed to solve it in my Asus ZenBook UX433F. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04. I upgraded the Kernel to v4.19.11 as to Jorge Castro's answer to this question: https://askubuntu.com/questions/119080/how-to-update-kernel-to-the- latest-mainline-version-without-any-distro-upgrade Here are the exact steps I followed: 1. Download the appropriate files from: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ For example: linux-headers-4.19.11-041911_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_all.deb linux-headers-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb linux-image-unsigned-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb linux-modules-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb 2. Install each one in the appropriate order: sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.19.11-041911_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_all.deb sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb sudo dpkg -i linux-modules-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb sudo dpkg -i linux-image-unsigned-4.19.11-041911-generic_4.19.11-041911.201812191931_amd64.deb 3. Restart. In GRUB choose "Advanced options for Ubuntu". Select the new Kernel version. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen
Yea, while a simple command may fix it, it should not be present on an out of the box install. A security bug as serious as this, should never have been left to the administrators to find out the hard way that data may be compromised because there was nothing in known-issues demonstrating that this flaw even existed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1769383 Title: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in gnome-shell source package in Bionic: Invalid Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock source package in Bionic: In Progress Status in gnome-shell source package in Cosmic: Invalid Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock source package in Cosmic: In Progress Status in gnome-shell source package in Disco: Invalid Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock source package in Disco: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] When entering the lock-screen mode, gnome-shell disables all the extensions. [Original Bug] After an update from ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 the dock is aviable on the lockscreen after user login. I did not configure this knowingly. Also i can start every application which is available on the dock. Settings, virtual box, visualstudio code and so on. After the update to 18.04 i just configure the screen frequency to 144Hz and the night mode on. And attach the dock on bottom. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen
Being that it's been 7 months since this has been reported, why has it not been fixed yet? Are we trying to make Ubuntu's security a complete joke? Because that's where we are heading with this. This should have been fixed 7 months ago and top priority. There are people who use Ubuntu in enterprise environments, and considering 18.04 is LTS, it is disgusting that this has not been fixed yet. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1808626] Re: Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating
I've been running the same setup and it runs absolutely perfectly if I boot up with editing the Ubuntu command line in grub and add video=VGA-1:e BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-43-generic root=UUID= ro drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=VGA-1:edid/hannsg.bin video=VGA-1:e adding the video=VGA-1:e will allow the drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware parameter to work and I get my proper display. If I don't add the video=VGA-1:e line it will come up at 1024x768 mode and give a "Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors". After I do this following xrandr command and the stored configuration is restored I get the flickering problem virtually INSTANTLY. $ xrandr --newmode "1920x1080R" 138.50 1920 1968 2000 2080 1080 1083 1088 +hsync -vsync; xrandr --addmode VGA-1 "1920x1080R" With the video=VGA-1:e the stored configuration comes up properly on initial boot and the video drivers work perfectly, no flickering. https://ptouchman.blogspot.com/2018/12/my-edid-was-going-unrecognized- until-i.html I'll post a video when I dig out my digital camera. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808626 Title: Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I've got a dual display setup, with one monitor rotated and I've been running into some weird bugs. The screen will not update properly at times and there will be areas that will intermittently flicker and show old areas that should have been overdrawn. Once it starts doing this, the only way to get things back to normal is to reboot. Going into standby and coming out of standby won't fix it. Actually, sometimes coming out of standby the screen won't refresh properly and I'll see the whole screen get some triple-buffer epilepsy inducing flicker. When I move the mouse from screen to screen and hover over the ubuntu launcher dock so that it scrolls the icons it will flip the triple buffers and the areas that have old data flickers. I think the display is triple buffered and one of the buffers gets old data. I can refresh the screen by dragging windows around manually like an "eraser" where I'm using the window to "erase old data" but this tends to get super annoying. It seems to get brought out by rotating one of my displays. I have a 1920x1200 pivoting display that is rotated to the left. My other display is 1920x1080 normal at position +1200+364. I seem to hit this a lot because my monitor doesn't have a good EDID so it comes up in ubuntu with an error message about crtcs (since it wants to do a 1920x1080 and it thinks the max is 1024x768) so after I set a new mode with: $ xrandr --newmode "1920x1080R" 138.50 1920 1968 2000 2080 1080 1083 1088 +hsync -vsync; xrandr --addmode VGA-1 "1920x1080R" Once the new mode gets added Ubuntu will automatically restore my desktop to its old settings pre-reboot and I start getting the flicker/update problems. I would imagine that the bug should show itself up if you do a few rotate/unrotate displays. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Release: 18.04 $ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-video-intel: Installed: 2:2.99.917+git20171229-1 Candidate: 2:2.99.917+git20171229-1 Version table: *** 2:2.99.917+git20171229-1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3120 x 1920, maximum 8192 x 8192 VGA-1 connected primary 1920x1080+1200+364 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 60.00 800x600 60.3256.25 848x480 60.00 640x480 59.94 1920x1080R59.93* HDMI-1 connected 1200x1920+0+0 left (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 519mm x 324mm 1920x1200 59.95*+ 1600x1200 60.00 1680x1050 59.88 1600x1000 60.01 1280x1024 85.0275.0260.02 1280x960 60.00 1152x864 75.00 1152x720 59.97 1024x768 75.0360.00 832x624 74.55 800x600 75.0060.32 640x480 75.0059.94 720x400 70.08 DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1808626/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1268673] Re: Unity Dash should propose terminal app when taping cmd
Works as requested with gnome-terminal 3.28.2 in Ubuntu 18.04. ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1268673 Title: Unity Dash should propose terminal app when taping cmd Status in GNOME Terminal: Fix Released Status in Unity: Invalid Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Hi This is not a pure bug, but an idea to made life of lot of people simpler. More of that I'm not sure this is more related to Gnome Terminal than Unity). But it's for me an "ergonomy" bug. I explain : In my job I have to use Windows terminal a lot. As I do with 'term' in unity, to open it I usually press "Windows / Super" Key and enter 'CMD'. Here is the "problem" : each time (very often) I come back on Ubuntu I try to search 'CMD' in the dash to open gnome-terminal. Of course : no result ! The idea is to have Gnome terminal (and probably other terminal app installed on the system) being found when searching cmd. This would avoid people like me to every time make the mistake, and newcomers to Ubuntu (student in Network/Telecoms/Programming...) would find what they search instantly what they search : better first impression of being "home" when first days on the system.
