[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1736222] Re: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound
I have encountered this bug on brand new 20.04 LTS installation. The bug seems to be triggered by visiting random website that utilize speech- dispatcher. Can be fixed by enabling DisableAutoSpawn in speechd.conf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to speech-dispatcher in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1736222 Title: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound Status in speech-dispatcher package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: So, a brand new computer running Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS. In hardinfo summary, my audio adapters are • HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDMI • HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH • HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia In detail: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio Controller (rev 06) Memory 16kb (non-prefetchable), snd_hda_intel As soon as I load a website in Firefox that utilizes speech-dispatcher (fimfiction.net) all sounds get distorted, whether I click a paragraph for TTS reading or not. The problem seems to go away if I don't use the site after a while. When I close down Firefox the problem still lingers a bit, but maybe not as long. One thing I did which seemed faster was close down everything, then load what I wanted to listen to (Skype, Discord), and if it still persisted I would go into "Sound Settings" and after a few blinks in that window the sound is normal again. While the site is open, according to "Sound Settings" (from the speaker icon menu) and Pulse Audio Volume Controller (pavu) there are 4 copies of this package. Muting them did not help the problem, but moving one of them, and a very specific one, from the "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" to something else like HDA NVidia (HDMI 3) seems to be a workaround. Just so you know, I do not use the HDMI cable for sound, but instead use the "headphones" jack. If you need any more details, I'll try to provide them. /Edward To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/speech-dispatcher/+bug/1736222/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1944727] Re: Screen shot leaves HP printer in non-working state
Re-installing the printer using the CUPS browser interface solved the issue. There seem to be some difference between this method and using the Ubuntu Settings tool. Issue is resolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-screenshot in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1944727 Title: Screen shot leaves HP printer in non-working state Status in gnome-screenshot package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This is a weird bug and difficult to debug. However: I have Ubuntu 21.04 fully updated as of 2021-09-23. Printing something that has been captured by gnome-screenshot will print fine with my HP Color Laserjet Pro M477fdw printer. However, it will leave the printer in a state where any subsequent print will fail, regardless of document or machine. Even printing from a Macbook Air will fail. The printer reports any subsequent file to be printed as corrupt and nothing comes out. The only way to recover from this state is to power-cycle the printer. This ONLY happen with screenshots. It happens BOTH when the screenshot has been pasted into Libre Office, and when the screenshot has been saved to a .png and printed from Image Viewer. This issue does however NOT happen on my CANON Pro 100 inkjet printer. So blame the printer, yes, but I have not been able to repeat it without gnome-screenshot. It's the common factor. Before Ubuntu 21.04 the default screen capture program was different, or at least it looked different, but previously I had no problem. I have been running Ubuntu with this printer for many years. Summary: I can only print screenshots once. I expect to be able to print two screen shots in sequence without requiring to power cycle the printer in between. I can upload an example file (that only print once) if required. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926799] Re: Cursor is not rendered in the correct location when at maximum desktop zoom
This issue still exists in ubuntu 21.10. I have tested the same with other distros and discovered that the issue occurs only in my lower end hardware with Open GL. In KDE this issue doesnt occur when changing compositor to XRender instead of OpenGL. This issue causes more trouble using my computer and makes it more unusable so, fix this ASAP please -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1926799 Title: Cursor is not rendered in the correct location when at maximum desktop zoom Status in GNOME Shell: Unknown Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: Affected version LSB Version: core-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch:printing-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch:security-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch Gnome Version: 3.38.4 Occurs in: Xorg and Wayland Bug summary 1. zoom focus shifts - lets assume a window in the center of the screen and i am at 3x zoom and i try to point my mouse at something and try to click that. 90% of the time zoom focus shifts away from the mouse location to mostly top left corner of the screen. 2. mouse pointing away from the object - Similarly when i reach above some zoom limit sets say 4x and now lets say i am in a browser trying to click a link i point at the link cursor changes to hand and when i try to click i couldnt. So i try to zoom out and i fid that the pointer was not exactly placed on the link. To sum up when zoomed in it seems like i am pointing at a link while the cursor is actually placed away from the link 3. Compressing text - after reaching certain high zoom level as said 4x or 5x the content on the screen becomes a bit compressed on the sides texts and images and everything on screen becomes elongated Steps to reproduce 1. Turn on zoom from settings -> Accessibility 2. Zoom in above 3.x 3. Try clicking on some object inside a window 4. Choose Follow mouse cursor or on screen part droopdown choose full screen. 5. My current settings are Screen part: Full Screen, Magnifier cursor pushes content arround. However these issues persist with all the other options under magnifier position. Such as Follow mouse cursor or magnifier cursor pushes content arround or any such option provided. Screenshot_from_2021-05-03_14-37-09 What happened 1. Zoom focus shifts away from the cursor mostly towards top left of the window or the desktop. 2.While zoomed in cursor seems to be placed above a link or an object but is actually placed awway either to the left or right of the object. Original position of the cursor reveals when zoomed out. 3.Content on screen seems to be compressed from the sides as text and other objects appear elongated.
