[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056713] Re: eog opens with incorrect upper left xy window coordinates cannot change in dconf or in any of the xml settings files, observed in wayland, and confirmed it is open

2024-03-10 Thread Shawn Stark
Keep in mind the nvidia card is setup as computer only, and is not used
for graphics. I have an AMD Card on open driver for my video and nvidia
card does not have the opengl drivers installed. AMD is set in settings
for to be default for DisplayManager and for Gnome. No X threads are
running on the NVIDIA-SMI and just want to be clear that card is not the
one in use and runs workloads only. Has python threads once in a while,
but wayland works good no issue otherwise has for a long time and this
app has seeming always displayed wrong size and x,y coordinates upon
open at least in Wayland. I do not recall, it might not have had this
issue in X11.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2023928] Re: Meetings change to the organizers timezone instead of my timezone

2023-06-14 Thread Shawn Heisey
This is not an isolated incident. It has happened quite a few times.
Somebody schedules a meeting for a certain time in their timezone, and
when I look at it, it's at the right time. Later, the time has changed
to the wrong time and I don't get a notification for the meeting until
after it's over.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1998889] Re: When maximizing a gnome-terminal window and then returning to normal mode, the terminal changes size

2022-12-08 Thread Shawn Heisey
Although I have sometimes done the maximize intentionally, most of the
time it is completely accidental. I use Ctrl-Alt-T to open a new
window and then try to click the "add tab" button a few times to get to
my usual working state ... and I miss the button.

When you selected a dark application theme, the gnome-shell top bar

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1777994] [NEW] the header xcb/xinput.h is missing

2018-06-21 Thread Shawn Rutledge
Public bug reported:

I suspect this means there should be another package, libxcb-xinput-dev
perhaps?

I already did sudo apt install "libxcb*dev" to get all related dev
packages, but none of them provide xcb/xinput.h.

The result is that when building Qt from source, it's necessary to use a
copy of this file which Qt provides
(qtbase/src/3rdparty/xcb/include/xcb/xinput.h), because it's missing
from the system. So if you don't give the option -qt-xcb to configure,
then Qt will be built without multi-touch support.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1543192] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from dix_main() ["no screens found"]

2018-06-11 Thread Shawn
Just to close the loop on this, it seems that my problem was a corrupted
dist-upgrade and reinstalling a fresh Xubuntu 18.04 fixed it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1543192] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from dix_main() ["no screens found"]

2018-06-01 Thread Shawn
That file (/etc/gdm3/custom.conf) doesn't exist on my system. I haven't
been getting the popup for an error occurring today though. (The
details in that dialog said it was a duplicate of this issue, which is
how I found this)

I still have an issue where if I lock the screen it goes black with a
blinking _ in the upper left. I can ssh in and reboot, but the UI is
unresponsive no matter how long I wait (even Ctrl+Shift+F1-6 key combos
do nothing). I'm not sure that is related, but the 'system error has
occurred' dialog with this crash only happened after I did a reboot to
get out of this. I'm going to do more debugging on this later this
afternoon.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1774242] Re: Wacom touchscreens should use libinput, not wacom driver

2018-05-30 Thread Shawn Rutledge
I verified that the stylus does still work OK (using the Qt tablet
example which demonstrates pressure-sensitivity etc.) So I think it's
probably OK to remove that stanza completely: there's probably no reason
to use wacom.drv for the touchscreen, just let it fall back to libinput
or evdev, whichever is installed.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774242

Title:
Wacom touchscreens should use libinput, not wacom driver

Status in xf86-input-wacom package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-wacom.conf as shipped, has this:

  Section "InputClass"
  Identifier "Wacom touchscreen class"
  MatchProduct "Wacom|WACOM|PTK-540WL|ISD-V4"
  MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
  MatchIsTouchscreen "true"
  Driver "wacom"
  EndSection

The result is that on my Yoga 920, in a plain X11 session (running
openbox in my case), the touchscreen acts like a broken mouse: there
is no multi-touch capability in Qt Quick applications, and clicking
isn't quite right either. I also verified it with Peter Hutterer's
  old cairo-based mt-touch test program.

I suspect we will get some users mistakenly writing up Qt bugs about
this if you don't ship a fix. (Seems to me that already happened at
  least once, actually.)

Yes, the touchscreen is made by Wacom, but wacom_drv.so has
historically been only for Wacom tablets and in-screen stylus
digitizers, and IMO that continues to be the case. libinput is a much
better choice of driver for this hardware (so is evdev for that
matter), so I changed it to Driver "libinput" and got it working.
(Wayland uses libinput, so in a wayland session, touch already works
fine in Qt apps on this hardware.)

I'm one of the Qt Quick maintainers, most concerned with touch
handling, and I've also written some of the Qt xcb code for dealing
with XInput touch and tablet devices. So if you think that there's
something wrong with Qt, such that it should still work anyway to use
a wacom driver for a Wacom touchscreen, let me know. These AES
devices are still new to me (that's why I got a Yoga, to try it out).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1774242] [NEW] Wacom touchscreens should use libinput, not wacom driver

2018-05-30 Thread Shawn Rutledge
Public bug reported:

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-wacom.conf as shipped, has this:

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Wacom touchscreen class"
MatchProduct "Wacom|WACOM|PTK-540WL|ISD-V4"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
MatchIsTouchscreen "true"
Driver "wacom"
EndSection

The result is that on my Yoga 920, in a plain X11 session (running
openbox in my case), the touchscreen acts like a broken mouse: there is
no multi-touch capability in Qt Quick applications, and clicking isn't
quite right either. I also verified it with Peter Hutterer's old cairo-
based mt-touch test program.

I suspect we will get some users mistakenly writing up Qt bugs about
this if you don't ship a fix. (Seems to me that already happened at
least once, actually.)

Yes, the touchscreen is made by Wacom, but wacom_drv.so has historically
been only for Wacom tablets and in-screen stylus digitizers, and IMO
that continues to be the case. libinput is a much better choice of
driver for this hardware (so is evdev for that matter), so I changed it
to Driver "libinput" and got it working. (Wayland uses libinput, so in
a wayland session, touch already works fine in Qt apps on this
hardware.)

I'm one of the Qt Quick maintainers, most concerned with touch handling,
and I've also written some of the Qt xcb code for dealing with XInput
touch and tablet devices. So if you think that there's something wrong
with Qt, such that it should still work anyway to use a wacom driver for
a Wacom touchscreen, let me know. These AES devices are still new to me
(that's why I got a Yoga, to try it out).

2017-10-27 Thread Shawn Venti
I just wanted to add that I experience this same problem. I do not
receive an error of any kind the mini displays simply will not rearrange
when I attempt to drag them.

Let me know if I can supply any additional information.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1688018] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6

Just downgrade network-manager to 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 until the issue
is resolved. Pretty simple.

Discussion in #1639776 indicate that we need new bug for this so I am

other similar bug report. We already lost several months and we are

  TL;DR; -> network-manager-1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 use DNS defined by
VPN (correct). network-manager-1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 use DNS from
DHCP instead of one defined by VPN (wrong).

DNS resolver should query only DNS servers defined by VPN while
  connection is active.

  =

  Test steps / result:

  - upgraded network-manager to 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1
(dnsmasq-base-2.75-1ubuntu0.16.04.2)
  - restated my laptop to ensure clean start
  - connected to VPN using openconnect / network-manager-openconnect-gnome

Observed results -> DNS queries are forwarded only to DNS servers
defined by LAN connection (this is wrong / connection not working at
  all)

  - "killall dnsmasq"
  - dnsmasq get automatically restarted by system

Observed results -> most of the the queries are forwarded to DNS
servers defined by VPN, but lot of queries get forwarded to DNS
servers defined by LAN connection (this is still wrong / DNS leaks,
attacker can hijack connection even if VPN is enabled)

  - I downgraded back network-manager to 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 (dnsmasq-base
stay same)
  - restated my laptop to ensure clean test
  - connected to same VPN using openconnect

Observed results -> DNS queries are forwarded only to DNS servers
defined by VPN connection. There are no leaks to LAN DNS server (this
  is correct behavior).

Paul Smith requested additional details in #1639776. Here are:

  * If you're using IPv4 vs. IPv6
-> IPv4 only. I have IPv6 set to ignore on all network definition (lan / wifi
/vpn)

  * If you have checked or unchecked the "Use this connection only for
resources on its network"
-> unchecked on all nw definition

  * If you have this checked, try unchecking it and see if that makes a
difference
-> no change if I toggle this option. Behavior is same.

  * When you say "DNS lookups" please be clear about whether the hostnames
being looked up are public (e.g., www.google.com or whatever), on your local
LAN, or in the network accessed via the VPN. Does it make a difference which
one you choose?
  -> No difference.

  * Are you using fully-qualified hostnames, or relying on the DNS domain
search path? Does it make a difference if you do it differently?
-> I normaly use FQDN due to nature of HTTPs cert validation. I don't see
difference when I try same using hostname + domain search.

  =

I am using openconnect (cisco) and openvpn. Test result are by using
openconnect but I saw same behaviour also while using openvpn.

  =

  Thanks

I experience the same issue on 16.04 but it ends up breaking DNS
responses entirely because traffic is forced through the OpenVPN tunnel
where the DNS resides and the local DNS is no longer accessible.

dnsmasq is 2.75-1ubuntu0.16.04.2 and I don't see anything newer within
my repo. Has the pkg been updated for 16.04?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1609119] Re: login session timeouts but unable to reactivate with keyboard or mouse input

2016-08-03 Thread Shawn Wass
I created a new user, logged in as the user, changed the account so no
lockscreen would occur (default timeout is 5 minutes), brought up a
browser just for some extra activity and then walked away.

12 minutes later I came back and was again unable to get any response
typing multiple keys on the keyboard or moving the mouse. Just a nice
dark screen.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-07-13 Thread Shawn B.
Odd I did an update, no packages from other repos, just an update from the
preexisting repos and the issue is resolved. I didn't see an update for the
xorg drivers either. It's just working... weird..

  Current (xenial): xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1

  [Impact]
Mouse cursor is no longer visible after VT-switch for systems with Intel
graphics.

Switching VTs again may cause the cursor to become visible again.
  - Changing to vt1 then back to vt7 (ctrl+alt+f1 then ctrl+alt+f7)

This is often observed in systems that lock the session and return to
the greeter (including at least Xubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, and elementary
  OS).

  [Test Case]
(Requires a lightdm-based screen locking solution)
  1. Start a new session.
  2. Lock your screen.
2a. You are redirected to the lightdm greeter.
  3. Login/Unlock your session.
  4. Cursor is no longer visible.

  [Debian Changelog (since 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1)]
   xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.99.917+git20160706-1ubuntu1) yakkety;
urgency=medium
* Merge from Debian.

   xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.99.917+git20160706-1) unstable; urgency=medium
* New upstream snapshot.
* fix-fd-leak-when-intel-scrn-create-fails.diff, sna-let-modesetting-
handle-gen9+.diff: Dropped as the fallback to modesetting will be
  fully handled in the xserver.
* .docs: Include a minimal xorg.conf.

   xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.99.917+git20160522-1ubuntu1) yakkety;
urgency=medium
* Merge from Debian.
* install-dri3info.diff: Install dri3info with the driver, add
libxcomposite-dev
  to build-depends.

   xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.99.917+git20160522-1) unstable; urgency=medium
* New upstream snapshot. (Closes: #823116)
* fix-fd-leak-when-intel-scrn-create-fails.diff: Fix a failure falling back
on another driver when scrn create fails.

  [Regression Potential]
Regression potential here seems minimal. However, as seen in the above Debian
changelog, we have a new snapshot which includes several changes since March 25.

  ===

  [Original Report]
Cursor is visible at unlock screen either after returning from suspend or
just locking.

After unlocking screen cursor is invisible.

Changing to vt1 then back to vt7 (ctrl+alt+f1 then ctrl+alt+f7) cursor
  returns

no matter if you suspend or sleep, to swap or disk when you return
from it, the mouse cursor is missing.you can still move the mouse
and you can see (because it highlights the window) as you move it
around. But the cursor is not displayed on the screen.

i am using a lenovo W540 laptop. I downloaded the latest beta on
  april 8 2016.

this is xubuntu using the xfce window manager.

the cursor does return if i log off and log back in, but that actually
defeats the purpose of going to sleep.

I'd be willing to try the got feature and apply to locate the fix. Can
you provide more information on how to accomplish that? Such as the URL
to bisect from, a list of potential revisions to try, etc? I've used got
to clone, branch, commit, and sync but that's it. I'd love to track this
bug down and squish it.

Hello everyone and future posters.

In order to keep the noise to a minimum, if you wish to +1 this bug, you
can use the top button which asks if this bug report is affecting you.
The switching terminals workaround has been confirmed time and again so
reiterating it adds absolutely no value.

However, it has been observed that switching the version of the Intel
graphics driver fixes the problem, so if you want to be truly helpful,
use the git bisect feature and try and identify which commit fixes the
issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1575351] Re: tell me I have OS updates and will not install said updates.

2016-05-07 Thread Shawn Matthiessen
I believe this is caused by the lack of a "Y/I/N/O/D/Z" prompt when the
package manager is trying to upgrade a config file which has been
"created by you or by a script". I had this happen when I first
installed Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 from scratch, I selected automatic login
and so the installer edited my /etc/gdm/custom.conf to reflect that. On
first boot, gnome-software showed I had updates, but it hung
indefinitely after I told it to get them. I rebooted and reinstalled and
answered all the installer questions exactly the same, but this time on
first boot I did a dist-upgrade from the terminal (and avoided gnome-
software) and I got a Y/I/N/O/D/Z prompt for a /etc/gdm/custom.conf.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 or any Ubuntu variant which comes with gdm3
3.18.3-0ubuntu1.
2. Enable automatic login (or hand edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf)
3. With gnome-software, attempt to accept software updates involving gdm3
3.18.3-0ubuntu2

Gnome-software will just sit there.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 948322] Re: Rhythmbox sync to library deleted all my music files

2015-03-15 Thread Shawn
WHY IS THIS EXPIRED?

This should be a TOP PRIORITY, Rythmbox deleted my entire library too...
What right does Rythmbox have to delete my music? That was a 10 year old
collection and now it is ALL gone...

This is an important issue, and should be reopened and marked CRITICAL!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 980766] Re: Remmina fullscreen jumps between workspaces

2015-01-21 Thread Shawn Wilson
I think the issue is that if you go fullscreen on remmina, every time
you switch workspaces, it moves to the screen that has the launcher
ribbon on it. I know the developers need a way to reliably produce the
exact problem so I'll see if I can narrow it down.

(ctrl+alt+left/right) will make remmina jump to along, or to another

make it move back to the original workspace.

It should stay on the workspace/screen it was opened on.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 871972] Re: 8086:0116 [i915] Screen display corruption resizing LibreOffice Calc window Acer Aspire 5750-9668

2014-11-15 Thread Shawn Willden
I'm seeing this on Trusty, on an HP Z420 and an HP Z620, both with
nVidia cards.

It occurs primarily when transitioning between workspaces. I've found
that I can (mostly) work around it by always transitioning first to a
blank workspace (one with no windows, just the background image), and
then to the workspace I wanted. Moving directly from one workspace with
windows to another with windows triggers corruption most of the time.

  apt-cache policy libreoffice-calc Installed: 1:4.2.3~rc2-0ubuntu1

  3) What is expected to happen in a blank Calc document is when one
resizes the window, it does not have screen display corruptions.

  4) What happens is it does as per attached screenshot
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
  intel/+bug/871972/+attachment/2535351/+files/screenshot.png .
  Following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace please see
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
  intel/+bug/871972/+attachment/2535349/+files/gdb-libreoffice.txt for
  backtrace information.

Toggling Settings - Window Manager Tweaks - Compositor - Enable
display compositing checkbox made no difference.

As well, this would appear to have never been a UXA bug as I'm currently
using SNA and it's still reproducible verbatim:
  grep SNA init /var/log/Xorg.0.log
  [ 6.059] (II) intel(0): SNA initialized with Sandybridge (gen6, gt2)
backend

The problem has been reproducible since:
  1) lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10
  apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel Installed: 2:2.15.901-1ubuntu2
  apt-cache policy libreoffice-calc libreoffice-calc: Installed:
1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2

This was not reproducible in a Natty 11.04 live CD, so this may be a
regression:
  xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7

This is not reproducible in GNOME Flashback (Metacity). However, this
would not quite be a WORKAROUND as it has bugs when utilizing the
touchpad, preventing me from switching to it from XFCE.

WORKAROUND: The screen display corruptions are reversed maximizing,
  and then restoring the window.

Many users will put different windows in different workspaces for better work
flow. If a user connects and/or disconnects an external monitor or projector,
all of these windows will be put in the first workspace. Having to go back and
move all of the windows back to their workspaces is very frustrating and time
consuming.

#. Open some applications in different workspaces.
#. Plug in an external monitor.

  [Regression Potential]
Very low possibility that a window still ends up in the wrong workspace.

well, i plug in my external screen.

expected behaviour would be, if all of my windows would stay in the
workspaces i aligned them to, and if they'd be on the same screen i
had them in the first place.

unfortunatly in unity, if i plug-in (or plug-off) my external screen
the windows are all around, but not where i'd expect them to be
(namely in the same place they were before). so i always have to
toggle expo-mode and re-align all of my windows.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1301839] Re: AMD Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M[1002:6660] Low-graphic mode with Trusty

2014-04-24 Thread Shawn Fike
I was able to resolve this with the following steps on a Dell Lattitude E6440
(Radeon HD 8670a):
I did a full update (sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get dist-upgrade) and
installed Gnome (sudo apt-get install gnome), selecting GDM as the display
manager.

It occasionally gets stuck on a reboot but other than that it works
great. Hope this helps.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor

2013-12-23 Thread Shawn Rutledge
This is quite a severe bug. If you have a touchscreen connected, and
you have touched it at some point:

1) start gitk or tkinfo or a recent Qt Creator (or probably many other Qt 5
programs)
2) scroll some long text with the mouse wheel
3) move the mouse

It selects text as if the left mouse button was being pressed. So in
other words if you have a touchscreen your mouse wheel isn't very useful
anymore in certain applications.

I think it should be fixed in 12.04 too, not just in newer releases.

Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor

Status in X.Org X server:
  Fix Released
Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in “xorg-server” source package in Precise:
  New

Bug description:
I already submitted this at http://askubuntu.com/questions/153043/ but
decided to update to the latest development snapshot in order to give
that a try and write a proper bug report if the issue persists. It
  does persist.

My setup is a quantal alpha 1, just upgraded from precise, with an
Acer T231H multitouch monitor connected to it, as well as an ordinary
mouse for testing. The mouse events as X sends them to the
applications are inconsitent. This can be debugged using xev.

The first touch of the screen is preceeded by a MotionNotify event
which already has state 0x100, i.e. left mouse button pressed. After
that comes a ButtonPress event, again with state 0x100 although that
value should indicate the state of the buttons before the event
occurred. The subsequent drag is all right, and the ButtonRelease as
well, but the 0x100 bit in the state value will never become zero
  again.

Even if I've got an ordinary mouse connected as well, it will
henceforth report every movement as if I were keeping the left mouse
button down. The only cure that I could find was restarting the X
server. Together with the ButtonPress and ButtonRelease events, this
constant bit for left mouse button amounts to an inconsistent
  reporting of button state.

Java applications e.g. will report every move as a drag due to this
issue, with severe implications for focus management. This makes using
differenent parts of the application almost impossible, as mouse
movement will only be reported to the component where the mouse
  entered the application window.

Since reporting at askubuntu, I've run some tests with evtest. The
data coming from the event device looks sane enough: BTN_TOUCH events
for the first finger, with value 1 for pressed and 0 for released.
ABS_MT_TRACKING_ID for all fingers, with a non-negative value for
pressed and -1 for released. The grouping into syn groups looks sane
as well. So I'd say the kernel driver works as intended, and somewhere
from there to the xevent layer, some internal state gets messed up.

I'm willing to try out any patches you might propose, be it in an
attempt to fix this, or only to gather more information.

  Expected behaviour:

MotionNotify with state 0x000 when dragging the ordinary mouse
MotionNotify with state 0x000 for move prior to touch, or no event at all
ButtonPress with state 0x000 when touching the screen
MotionNotify with state 0x100 while dragging the finger
ButtonRelease with state 0x100 when lifting the finger
MotionNotify with state 0x000 when dragging the ordinary mouse afterwards

  Actual behaviour:

MotionNotify with state 0x000 when dragging the ordinary mouse before the
first touch
MotionNotify with state 0x100 for prior to ButtonPress event
ButtonPress with state 0x100 when touching the screen
MotionNotify with state 0x100 while dragging the finger
ButtonRelease with state 0x100 when lifting the finger
MotionNotify with state 0x100 when dragging the ordinary mouse afterwards

In the Chinese Traditional character input mode: if too many
characters are entered, ibus-chewing will delete some of them. This
bug occurs in all text input places: Libreoffice writer, browsers'
  text input files, gedit, etc.

For example (in the following, don't hit ENTER at all times):

  1. Try typing 一二三四五六七八九十一二三四五六七 in the Chinese input mode
  2. When the second 六 gets entered, the first 一 will be committed.
  3. When the second 七 gets entered, the first 二三 will be deleted, and the
result ends up being 一四五六七八九十一二三四五六七

  1. In Writer, if I mark (select) some texts, and then click the window

  2. In Calc, clicking the window title, draging the window, or focusing

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1169143] Re: Headset support on some Dell machines

2013-09-29 Thread Shawn Wang
Hi David,
I did some audio tests, 2-pin headphones (output)/2-pin
microphone(input)/3-pin headset(output/input) on two dell machines.

No regressions were found, everything kept working, as expected.

 Here is my test environment:
 - Precise (12.04) installation
 - PulseAudio from precise-proposed repository
 - A saucy (3.11) kernel / 3.5 lts-quantal kernel with
oem-audio-hda-daily-lts-quantal-dkms (0.201309280820~ubunut12.04.01)

Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “pulseaudio” source package in Precise:

Bug description:
  [SRU Justification]
Several new hardware has either headset jacks or headphone-or-mic jacks,
where the system cannot detect what has been plugged in. E g, for such a
headset jack you can either plug in a headphone or a headset, but since the
system cannot tell which one it is, you have to manually tell the system
whether you want to use the internal or external mic.
In the case of a headphone-or-mic jack, you can have the jack functioning as
either a headphone or a mic, but not as a headset.

Without this patch, PulseAudio would not detect the jack correctly,
and not making all options available to the user.

[Regression Potential] is very low: this only affects machines with
the specific name Headphone Mic Jack or Headset Mic Jack, which
started to appear for a few machines in the 3.5 kernel. People who are
running 12.04.0 or 12.04.1 will be unaffected. More machines are
coming in the 3.10 kernel, so this is also a preparation for making
  certification easier later on.

[Test case] On an affected machine, plug in something into the jack.
Then go to Sound Settings and note what options there are: e g, for
a headset jack, you should be able to select both external and
  internal mic manually.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 683987] Re: Location bar searches change to HTTPS SSL GOOGLE

2013-08-01 Thread Shawn Willden
It is no longer true that image search is unavailable via HTTPS. As far
as I can tell, Google is fully functional via SSL.

Defaulting to using Google via SSL is the right thing to do. I suggest
this bug be closed as obsolete.

  [Impact]

Pretty much no one can use their webcam to take one off pitctures or

  gstreamer working.

  1. Start Cheese
  2. Observe if mouse and keyboard are frozen

  [Regression Potential]

Small, all this change does is ensure that the proper value for the

This is a bug in gstreamer-plugins-good.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 903293] [NEW] Mines 2.32.1 squares will not show up.

2011-12-12 Thread Shawn Blanchette
Public bug reported:

Screenshots tell most of the story. * Note: The screenshot includes a
screenshot and a picture I took with my phone after clicking the game
area.

I had to reinstall the video driver since I switched computers with this
hard drive. I now run NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 173)
-- current recommended version.

I used Mines 2.32.1 on the other computer and it worked great. I tried
reinstalling the Mines game.

This is not an emergency fix. It seems that everything else works well,
and I only use Mines when I am bored. Thank you for your help.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 837098] Re: Cannot install Ubuntu One Music Store plugin

2011-09-07 Thread Shawn Peterson
Also in ubuntu 11.10, same problem. This is the error via apt-get in
the terminal:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

 rhythmbox-ubuntuone-music-store : Depends: rhythmbox-plugins (= 0.13.3) but
it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

The plugins are of course the latest version supplied via the software
center.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 833275] Re: Bookmarks dissapear in Firefox 6 on Ubuntu 11.04. Restart of firefox reloads them.

2011-09-02 Thread Shawn Mammon
Sorry for the long response time - I waited to gather more info for you.

It appears that it's just the bookmarks tool bar. The folder names are
still displayed on the tool bar but they are empty. The full bookmarks list
stays populated and functional. Restarting clears the problem temporarily
but it re-appears. I have not been able to corilate it to any particular
activity, site, or application. So far the timing appears random.

This behavior has appeared with the 6.x release and is still present in
6.0.1

 Shawn,

Could you please answer a few questions that can help us resolve the
 problem?

 1. Does this happen every time you run firefox? Are you doing anything
 specific when it happens?

 2. Are your bookmarks disappearing from your bookmarks toolbar, or the
 bookmarks menu, or both?

 Thanks
