[ACS 4.4][QA] Windowsfication of management server
Hi Alex, I have identified High Level Test Combinations in comparison with Linux installer and the details are : 1. Installation of Management Server(MS) with VMware as we mount Secondary Storage on Management Server and other hypervisors validation 2. DB and MS on the same Server 3. DB , MS and Usage Server combinations 4. Min Performance/Scalability Requirements with Windows MS with 4.4 release . 5. Remote DB with Windows MS 6. MS acting as Storage provider ( All In One combination) 7. Log files location and how easy to debug 8. Integration with Windows Events in case of MS failures ?? 9. Seeding system VM templates - New script for windows? 10. MS Service Start , Stop ,Restart , Status 11. Supported Platforms Or Platforms to cover - Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2K12 R2 64 bit 12. DB - Mysql , Java , Apache versions 13. Folder structure 14. Ports to be opened by default 15. Multinode Management Test combination 16. Removal of MS , Usage Server , Mysql 17. Dependency package verification 18. Cloudstack bridge folder structure 19. Equivalent scripts for cloudstack-setup-management , cloudstack-sccs , cloudstack-aws-api-register , cloudstack-sysvmadm , cloudstack-setup-bridge etc.. . Can you please share the test combinations you would like to own among the above list and Please add to the list if I missed out any. These are high level test combinations . I am yet to explore FS to add/remove supported test scenarios. I think its fair to debate if this is a feature in that sense. It seems like minor changes and the addition of a few scripts, making it a simple change in my view. It would be great to be able to announce this, but for it to be part of a release i think we need a couple of other things to be done. The most prominent are, packaging, testing and documentation. Documentation: If we want to ship this with 4.4 and announce that CS now runs on windows we need to have the installation manual covered at least. Packaging: We can't expect our users to build it themselves on windows. So we need some kind of packaging that people can install on their windows server. Testing: We need to automagically verify that these changes aren't affected by

Review Request 20117: Pilot patch for CS JIRA 6213
--- This is an automatically generated e-mail. To reply, visit: https://reviews.apache.org/r/20117/ --- Review request for cloudstack and Alena Prokharchyk. Repository: cloudstack-git Description --- Hi Alena, I am attaching a pilot patch for the problem we are trying to solve. Please let me know your thoughts, comments, suggestions on the approach and code. We can make widespread code changes after agreeing on the approach and any other details. Problem: When stripping sensitive parameters from the response log string, the strip logic should be generic. Current cleanString code strips few hardcoded keywords from the response string. Approach: As discussed in the context of CS JIRA 4406 I have modified @Parameter annotation applied to fields of command classes and @Param annotation applied to fields of response classes. 1. Annotations modified to add a new flag that conveys sensitivity of the parameter for log, default set to false. 2. cleanString utility function is modified to process an array of strings passed to it so it can strip all. 3. To keep this backward compatible (and also don't know the code change implications at other places at this time) made sure old cleanString code will continue to strip hardcoded keywords when zero sized filter array is passed. This can change if we think so and when we think so. This change I am putting is minimal focussed to solve current problem. 4. In ApiServer code where we are loading APICommand annotation to check if the command response carried sensitive data, additional code is added to load response class signature Param and SerializedName annotations to get the name of the field that is flagged to carry sensitive information 5. A list of such names is built and passed to cleanString to strip 6. All code areas that got affected by cleanString signature change are modified to pass zero sized filter arrays to cleanString 7. pom.xml is modified for server project to include gson dependency 8.StringUtil unit test code modified to use new signature for cleanString. (New tests will need to be added in the final patch for testing the new functions of cleanString) On final note this addresses handling the audit logging of response strings alone. I haven't looked into audit logging of request strings and what will need to be done there. This pilot patch is tested for listUsers command response. It would be great to be able to announce this, but for it to be part of a release i think we need a couple of other things to be done. The most prominent are, packaging, testing and documentation.

Re: [ACS4.4][TestPlanReview]Configuring load balancing rules for VM nic secondary ips
Hi Manasa, Here are few comments. 1. In API for vmidipmap pass the values as below. vmidipmap[0].vmid=vmid , vmidipmap[0].vmip=vmprimary/secondaryip 2. when you pass the virtualmachineids and vmidipmap then vm primary ip and secondary assigned to lb rule. 3.Add test cases to check the existing behaviour is not disturbed by this feature. 4.In verification please add steps to verify the functionality using traffic. 5.Add test case to check impact on internal load balancing, auto scale load balancer etc. Thanks, Jayapal On 08-Apr-2014, at 2:33 PM, Manasa Veloori (3P) manasa.velo...@citrix.commailto:manasa.velo...@citrix.com wrote: Hi , I have written test cases for the feature “Configuring LB rules for VM NIC secondary IPs” Please review it and provide the comments. https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/TestPlan+:Configuring+load+balancing+rules+for+VM+nic+secondary+ips Thanks, Manasa

Instances, networks, and all the rest are working fine. I ran the tests against 3 hosts running XenServer, where one of them has an extra disk which is used as NFS primary storage. From the 2 instances using local storage, one was created with Cloudtack 4.3 RC (9th round). In order to make it clear, below the steps I followed to test it: Global settings: system.vm.use.local.storage == true 1. Deploy Cloudstack 4.3.0 RC (9th round) 2. Create a zone (local storage enabled) a. Create an instance and network 3. Test firewalling and port forwarding 4. Upgrade Cloudstack 4.3.0 RC (9th round) to Cloudstack 4.5.0-SNAPSHOT 5. Test firewalling and port forwarding 6. Create a zone (local storage enabled) a. Create an instance and network 7. Create a zone (local storage disabled) + NFS primary storage a. Create an instance and network 8. Test firewalling and port forwarding With the steps above, I was able to set up the whole environment and make sure the VMs were running properly and ACL/Port-Forwarding were also working as expected. Global settings: system.vm.use.local.storage == false 1. Deploy Cloudstack 4.3.0 RC (9th round) 2. Create a zone (local storage disabled) + NFS primary storage a. Create an instance and network 3. Test firewalling and port forwarding 4. Upgrade Cloudstack 4.3.0 RC (9th round) to Cloudstack 4.5.0-SNAPSHOT 5. Test firewalling and port forwarding 6. Set system.vm.use.local.storage to true 7. Create a zone (local storage enabled) a. Create an instance and network 8. Create a zone (local storage enabled) a. Create an instance and network 9. Create new instance under the Zone which does not use local storage 10. Test firewalling and port forwarding Again, everything worked as expected. With the steps provided above, I can make sure that resources created with version prior to master (4.5.0-SNAPSHOT) won't have problems when performing an update. I can understand most of rules except below: 1. Using the '.*' form of import should be avoided This totally breaks Intellj and some J2SE library. Intellj will automatically use a single .* to replace multiple separate imports if all imports are from the same package. And if you use JAXB which is J2SE XML standard library, you will see it puts javax.xml.bind.annotation.* on every generated java-xml binding. 2. Name 'SSHPublicKey' must match pattern '^[a-z][a-zA-Z0-9]*$'. What's wrong in using SSH instead of Ssh? I don't know what standard these rules are based on, and I don't think there is a world agreed standard in Java for code format. Do we really think these rules make our code look better(to be honest, I don't know what's wrong with trailing space and tab, remember Java is not Python)? Re: Review Request 20099: Domain-Account-User Sync Up Among Multiple Regions (Core Changes)
Yes, I really hope so from now on :-) For #2, the current setting is NOT syncing the resources and these are the steps to enable this feature - Set the mode value of the remote regions to sync into 'sync on' - Set the value of global parameter, region.full.scan.interval (the default value is '0), into value of milliseconds to enable the Full Scan Let me know if you want a different way. For #1, after another thought, I'm not still clear why those datetime values can't be added to their attributes. As you recommended, we can use another table to track them, but there can be an issue of partial commits when only the resource are successfully created/updated/removed and their datetime values fail to be stored because they are NOT in the same transaction. And we also need to track the 'removed' datetime because when a resource exists in only either the local or the remote region, we don't know whether it was created but it failed to be created in another region or it was removed but it failed to be removed in another region. That's why I track the removed datetime and preserve the original datetime. Let me think about the #1 more closely and let you know what I find. Re: Whats new in 4.4
Hi Hugo, For the 4.4 release, I extended managed storage to support a 1:1 mapping between a CloudStack root disk and a backend volume (in my case, a SAN volume) when using XenServer. This 1:1 mapping paves the way for enabling guaranteed QoS for root disks (I have the same support in place already for data disks for XenServer, VMware, and KVM). I have code in already to support this on VMware; however, I'm currently discovering VMware behavior that I didn't previously know existed (I've been talking with Kelven about this). Based on the results on our conversation, I'll know if it's a simple matter or not to patch up my VMware logic to support a 1:1 root-disk mapping in 4.4, as well (otherwise that will end up in 4.5). All of my VMware testing for this worked, but it was conducted with storage code running inside of the CS MS. I was unaware that this kind of storage-related code for VMware can also run inside of a SSVM. Thanks! Hi Sateesh, I understand the content of your message a bit better now. :) See...in the past, I've always been able to debug what VMware logic I needed from code running inside of the management server. Alex, Take for example the Removed field. Its not being managed through none of the CS interfaces, and you can’t set this value neither from the API, nor from the Orchestration layer. Its being set automatically in GenericDao once the object is set for removal by the very same Dao. The same applies to the Created/Updated fields. -Alena. Re: [Proposal] Integrating Apache Stratos with Apache CloudStack.
Hi Tuna, In terms of design for cloudstack integration, Nirmal has provided some useful information here [1]. However, my integration efforts have stalled a little while I am trying to resolve an issue creating a Ubuntu instance in a Xen host inside virtualbox. Jason Daly has also been working on the Cloudstack integration using his company's Cloudstack infrastructure. My expectation is that Jason will get integration finished before I manage to, in which case I will be continue my focus on providing Stratos+Cloudstack vagrant environments. The first goal for me is for a user to be able to try Cloudstack and Stratos using Vagrant with minimal manual setup. The second goal is for a developer to use vagrant to setup a Stratos development environment - again with minimal effort. RE: [PROPOSAL] region level VPC and guest network spanning multiple zones
Hi , Following are the review comments on the FS posted @ https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Region+level+VPC+and +guest+network+spanning+multiple+zones: How many guest networks we can scale using SDN? Do we support mixed networks in a zone (VLAN+Tunnel)? Any limitation on the number of zones an SDN network can span? What are the services supported by SDN networks? What are the services supported by region level VPC? With SDN networks do we support any external devices? Do we support SGs with SDN? Do we support monitoring for SDN controller and the GRE tunnels between the hosts across zones? What are the alerts and events generated by the controller? With SDNs do we support zones with mixed hypervisors?(e.g: zone1 with xen and zone2 with ESX) If vpc is tied to a zone can we have the tiers spanned across multiple zones? If vpc is region level do we have control on the zone in which VR has to be deployed? Networks spanning across multiple zones is applicable only to vpc networks(tiers) or any guest network which is not part of vpc as well? Do we support SDNs in an upgraded environment? Can we upgrade vlan based networks to SDN and vice-versa? Upgrading zone level vpc to region level vpc and vice-versa? What are the external dependencies for the SDN to work (ports need to be opened on the zone level firewalls)? Thanks, Sanjeev -Original Message- From: Murali Reddy [mailto:murali.re...@citrix.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2014 3:51 AM To: dev@cloudstack.apache.org Subject: Re: [PROPOSAL] region level VPC and guest network spanning multiple zones Please find the FS for this proposal at below link. I will be sending out a different proposal covering the enhancements called out in the FS. https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Region+level+VPC+and +guest+network+spanning+multiple+zones On 19/12/13 5:54 PM, Murali Reddy murali.re...@citrix.com wrote: I would like to propose two networking models enhancements for ACS 4.4 release that will enable building highly available applications. Currently VPC in CloudStack is a zone level entity. So tiers with in the VPC are confined to the zone to which VPC belongs. For an application deployed in current model of VPC failure of the zone is a single point of failure. It is desirable to make VPC a region level entity, where tiers in the VPC can be created in different zones of the region. When tiers can be created in different zones, application hosted in VPC can be architected to be highly available masking zone failures by having redundant tiers in different zones. While it may be seen as natural extension, there are fundamental limitations with VLAN/traditional L2 based networking due to which realizing it would be non-trivial or require special solutions [1]. Overlay networks [2] in the context of SDN network virtualization provides a way to build networks that are abstracted from physical/underlay network. An overlay network is typically built with tunnels across edge(vSwitch's in hypervisor) and core is plain L3 network. With requirement that L3 connectivity across zones and tunnels can be established across the zones, an overlay network that spans multiple zones is easily realized. Given the range of SDN controllers that are integrated with CS, goal of this proposal is to leverage advances in SDN network virtualization introduce below generic notions into CS. - an advanced zone isolated network that can span multiple zones - a region level VPC where tiers belong to different zones. I have opened bugs [3],[4] to track these two enhancements. As part of the effort I would like to extend the current OVS plug-in (that builds overlay network with GRE tunnels) to realise these two use-cases. I have opened bug [5] to track this enhancement. As long as we establish tunnels across the zones, we can have overlay networks that are functional, but would be inefficient in handling east-west traffic [6] and BUM traffic. While the problems exist in the overlay networks that are confined to a zone as well, they are compounded when the network spans multiple zones resulting in high cross-zone east-west traffic. I would be sending out a complementary proposal to introduce distributed routing and ACL's for east-west traffic and ARP localisation that will allow only legitimate cross zone east-west traffic. I will send out a functional specification with detailed requirements, assumptions, limitation etc once I make progress with these enhancements. Please share any feedback and comments. [4.4] System VMs not starting
Hi, Has anyone been able to recently build a cloud from scratch with a XenServer cluster? The system template downloads, but the system VMs don't start. Not sure why (because I use these IP addresses all the time), but I get the following exception: com.cloud.exception.InsufficientAddressCapacityException: Unable to get a management ip addressScope=interface com.cloud.dc.Pod; id=1 at com.cloud.network.guru.PodBasedNetworkGuru.reserve(PodBasedNetworkGuru.java:123) at org.apache.cloudstack.engine.orchestration.NetworkOrchestrator.prepareNic(NetworkOrchestrator.java:1308) at org.apache.cloudstack.engine.orchestration.NetworkOrchestrator.prepare(NetworkOrchestrator.java:1279) at com.cloud.vm.VirtualMachineManagerImpl.orchestrateStart(VirtualMachineManagerImpl.java:982) at com.cloud.vm.VirtualMachineManagerImpl.orchestrateStart(VirtualMachineManagerImpl.java:5164) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:57) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:43) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:606) at com.cloud.vm.VmWorkJobHandlerProxy.handleVmWorkJob(VmWorkJobHandlerProxy.java:107) at com.cloud.vm.VirtualMachineManagerImpl.handleVmWorkJob(VirtualMachineManagerImpl.java:5309) at com.cloud.vm.VmWorkJobDispatcher.runJob(VmWorkJobDispatcher.java:102) at org.apache.cloudstack.framework.jobs.impl.AsyncJobManagerImpl$5.runInContext(AsyncJobManagerImpl.java:495) at org.apache.cloudstack.managed.context.ManagedContextRunnable$1.run(ManagedContextRunnable.java:49) at org.apache.cloudstack.managed.context.impl.DefaultManagedContext$1.call(DefaultManagedContext.java:56) at org.apache.cloudstack.managed.context.impl.DefaultManagedContext.callWithContext(DefaultManagedContext.java:103) at org.apache.cloudstack.managed.context.impl.DefaultManagedContext.runWithContext(DefaultManagedContext.java:53) at org.apache.cloudstack.managed.context.ManagedContextRunnable.run(ManagedContextRunnable.java:46) at org.apache.cloudstack.framework.jobs.impl.AsyncJobManagerImpl$5.run(AsyncJobManagerImpl.java:452) at java.util.concurrent.Executors$RunnableAdapter.call(Executors.java:471) Thanks! -- *Mike Tutkowski* *Senior CloudStack Developer, SolidFire Inc.* e: mike.tutkow...@solidfire.com o: 303.746.7302 Advancing the way the world uses the cloudhttp://solidfire.com/solution/overview/?video=play *(tm)*
Re: OpenSSL vunerability (bleedheart)
Just put up a blog post with mitigation instructions [1]. If anybody has any issues with this, please let us know and we’ll help/update as appropriate. We’re working on new SystemVM images, but that’s going to take us a few days. It is fixed in OpenSSL 1.0.1g From https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1084875#c9 Statement: This issue did not affect the versions of openssl as shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4 and earlier. This issue does affect Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor 6.5, and Red Hat Storage 2.1, which provided openssl 1.0.1e. XenServer 6.2 SP1 uses the native CentOS OpenSSL RPM without modification version (OpenSSL 0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 01 Jul 2008) so is unaffected.
