With the integration CWS slidecopy, a feature became available for
extensions to register arbitrary tool panels, to be displayed in a
per-application Task Pane (see
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Framework/Article/Tool_Panels
for a small documentation, and a Soylent Green screenshot :) ).

Those tool panels are organized in a tool panel deck, which basically is
what you know from Impress' Task Pane in current versions. One possible
layout for this tool panel deck is the "drawers", as shown in the
screenshot at the above side, and as known from Impress' Task Pane.

Another possible layout, which currently is not finalized, and thus not
available in the DEV300 builds, is a "tabbed" layout, where some kind of
tab bar (like in tabbed dialogs) is shown at the right/left hand side of
the tool panel deck, with one tab item per tool panel.

And "Panel Deck Tab Bar" is the Accessibility name for this thing.

Ciao
Frank

I will second that, but for what I know the problem here is in our PO
toolkit, not in the process how developers work. Things can easily
improve by creating a new tool for merging POTs created from SDF file
with old PO files that could cope up with code moving from one module
into another.

If there are no voices against it I can work on this during July so we
can test and improve it later and make it ready for next release cycle.

Hmm .. I'm not really keen of having "yet another tool". If we are
working on something, this should be done within translate toolkit. The
pretranslate tool from translate toolkit is supposed to do exactly what
we need - unfortunately it doesn't work the way we need it.

At least not for xliff - did anybody try with .po?

I also did not check, how "successfull" pretranslate works with
translation memories. Unfortunately pretranslate manpage gives no
information, what format to use as translation memory file.

In fact - for my own workflow (using xliff files, OLTE and built in
translation memory which is based on the translations I did so far)
gives ~ 60% automatic transaltions for the "moved" strings.
My translatoin memory does not contain all the previus translations,
therefore the rather low rate. Unfortunately there is no german tmx file
at ooo.services :(

So for me - before starting a new tool I'd recommend:
- to provide .tmx files based on previous translations for all languages
- try to improve translate toolkit
- teach developers about the workload some acitivities cause here, that
seem to be very simple for developers and find some way to move l10n
strings along with the original english strings

André

Yeah, I noticed... However, previous version was similar crap (in terms
of source code), so I just ignored it.

To me, it looked as if somebody generated that page using OpenOffice
itself (bad, bad idea!)

I wouldn't care about tags as they're being rehabilitated in HTML5
and I started using them myself sometimes (in those cases where I mean
bold font, and not strong emphasis), but using table for layout, and all
those font tags are really ugly.

2010-06-22 Thread Olivier Hallot

Hi Rafaella & dev's

I would like to express my deep disapointment with this situation.

I just can't figure why we, translators, have to fix code refactoring
l10n issues, without any early notice and with apparently not a miminal
concern from the developers with respect to the overload they inflict to
us. Our job is not a lesser job, and we produce what our NL users see
first-hand in the software.

I am not concerned on re-work thru automatic cut-&-paste on something
already done long time ago. I am concerned on the error and mistakes we
will for sure introduce each time we have to edit a po file that has
been committed years before, with almost no backup or easy traceback
procedure to recover the precise string used at that time. As said in
this thread, it is the same workload as if it was new.

So, I beg you to work on how to stop this.

Kind regards from Rio

In summary, pt-BR UI got back to 90% of translated strings (from
100%) and that does not seem correct with respect to the new features
announced for OO 3.3.

On a side note, I really think we need a version control on the po

I think that a more powerful translation memory in Pootle would help...

Pootle (or more precise translate toolkit) can use old translation files
(set of po files) as "translation memory". I'd guess, using pretranslate
instead of pomerge would give much more fuzzy matches (so that you only
need to check instead of translate).

Still did not test this - quite busiy with other things atm :(

Yes, but verification of a string is less then one second in most cases
vs. up to several minutes for a new translation ;)

This is same as what I got when converting SDF to POT and using
pomigrate2 to merge with old translations.

Let us look at macropg.src#RID_SVXSTR_EVENT_SAVEDOC.string.text. Before
it was in svx/source/dialog.po and now it is in cui/source/customize.po

When running [pomigrate2 -C -F ui uinew pot] some of these messages
where not kept as translated, while some are. I have 158 translated and
27 not translated in cui/source/customize.po after the merge.

I am thinking about writing a replacement for pomigrate2 that will keep
track of reference ids when merging. Currently as a workaround I am
using msgmerge to manually re-merge old translations when situation like
this happens.

Yes, would also be nice to have, but would not solve the specific

Hi Olivier,

Modules were migrated from svx to cui (i.e. source code were moved
from one module to another). In an ideal world all translations would
have been copied, too and not offered again for translation. We need
to find an easy way to automatically leverage old translations.

Hi Rafaella

It is (so far) in the UI.

Please take a look, for instance, at the CUI folder as it contains all
strings for the options, the dialogs, tab pages and customization. This
is something ready from the begining of the project. Other folders seems
to have the same problem, and I have no way to easily point what went
wrong.

In summary, pt-BR UI got back to 90% of translated strings (from 100%)
and that does not seem correct with respect to the new features
announced for OO 3.3.

On a side note, I really think we need a version control on the po files...

to send the sdf to you (or add it to an issue) before July 1, so that you
get a almost-fully-translated stuff for all languages into the tree and then
update my files after July 1? Or do I keep updating to new m84, m85 etc.

Yes, we keep updating. The delivery deadlines you should look at are:
July 15th - to meet the OOo 3.3 Beta release
August 12th - final translation delivery

No need to provide anything besides those dates.

Thanks,
Rafaella

The latter was the case until now.

Dear Translators/Localizers,

I've created a wiki page gathering information on how to proceed with the
translation work for 3.3.

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Translation_for_3.3

Milestone 83 can be used to start translation. However, please disregard 2
modules that erroneously have been integrated: testautomation and
migrationanalysis.

Please note that there is a Beta release scheduled for 3.3. The focus of
the Beta release is primarily UI, that means, that it's not a requirement to
provide translated Help files. Delivery deadline for the Beta is July 15th.

Kind Regards,
Rafaella
