RE: VOTE: release 3.6.2

2012-12-23 Thread Uwe Schindler
Hi,

+1 from me to release these artifacts as 3.6.2:

- I did *not* run smoke tester as already lots of people have done this.
- I just tested drop in replacement of the JAR file for my projects with 3.6
(including PANGAEA) - works fine, no checkindex bugs and similar stuff.

 Subject: VOTE: release 3.6.2

Hello everyone, given the bug Mike fixed in
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LUCENE-4635, I think we should push
out a 3.6.2 bugfix release with the fix.
Tom (the reporter of the bug) confirmed his checkindex passed successfully
last night, and besides that we have a few other nice bugfixes there.

 Artifacts are here: http://s.apache.org/lusolr362rc0

If you want to use the smoketester, of course you must run it from the
lucene_solr_3_6 branch. This passes for me on linux. I'm not sure it works on
 other platforms.

 Thanks,
 Robert

Besides the mentioned jdoc warnings the smoke tester ran fine.

It hit this when running javadocs with 1.7.0_07.

Thanks Mike... can you fix? I have no idea why different versions of
java7 have different levels of pickiness.

This is no issue for e.g. 4.x+, because we have the eclipse checker as
part of our build which fails on this. But for 3.x we don't have as
 many tools unfortunately.

I dont think we should put a lot of effort into this: but when
backporting bugfixes to old branches like this please be really
 careful about this stuff.

OK I committed that fix and a couple other javadocs warnings.

 Thanks for spinning 3.6.2 Robert!

Hi Robert,

Would it be possible to fold in also LUCENE-4286?
I don't see the 3.6 backport listed in the JIRA issue, but it would be nice
to have that flag available for people still on the 3.6.x branch.

I think i would prefer not to: even though its just a new
option/feature, 3.6.x is basically in bugfix mode.

I know this isn't great for people that want the feature, but i feel
we should be really careful with these bugfix releases myself.

Terms index bug is a whole different story though!
