To be a developer volunteer, you shall prepare an AOO build environment in
your local and get some AOO technical knowledge and specifications. Such
stuff could be commonly found in the AOO WIKI pages. For example, the build
environment establishment document for different platforms are in here:

http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/Building_Guide

And the structural introduction documents for applications could be
retrieved as following:

For AOO Text Document (named as 'SW' internally):
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Writer
For AOO Impress (named as 'SD' internally):
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Impress
For AOO Calc (named as 'SC' internally):
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Calc

And of cause, refer to the new coming developer guide at first:
http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/intro-development.html , but as it
is still a draft version, tell the community directly, if there anything
should be clarified, updated or even rewrote.

Thank you again, and having fun in this opening world.

Preserving active sheet setting when converting Excel file

2013-01-29 Thread Mahmoud ElGammal

Hi,

I'm using OO in headless mode to convert Excel files to ODF. I've
noticed that when I open the Excel file manually and save it as ODF, the
settings.xml file in the resulting archive includes a bunch of view
settings (including the active sheet) which are not present when I
convert the file using a macro in headless mode. Any idea how I can
preserve this setting when running in headless mode?

Sidebar color scheme survey

2013-01-29 Thread Andre Fischer

Hi,

Development of the sidebar is progressing well. It already looks a lot
like the mockups posted by Xin Li on December 18th [1]. I have
concentrated on the underlying framework, so there is only one partially
migrated panel so far. Nevertheless the framework is now flexible
enough to think about the default color scheme to use. There are
developer builds [2] and an extension that allow live evaluation of the
nine different color schemes from [1].

I would like to ask you to either look at the mockups at [1] or try the
developer builds [2] and tell me what color scheme you like best.

General information about the sidebar, the current state of development
and how to help can be found in the wiki [3].

Thanks in advance for you help,
Andre

For the panel decoration I prefer the proposal A (Gradient Color
Background) because the separator lines or the emboss effect add too
much visual noise.

For the panel color scheme I prefer proposal 1 (Grey Title and Panel)
because this panel is for setting properties which the other proposals
don't convey. A gradient for the Title from dark grey to grey would be
even better.

Yes, great idea. To restart where the previous download stopped is not known

Unfortunately, I've no experience with this as nowadays my Internet

Let me heartily recommend what worked for me, when I used to have this
problem: Firefox browser, plus the DownThemAll (DTA!) add-on, both free.
When my download was interrupted (always at least once), DTA popped up a
notification. One click on the stream name activates the DTA controls. A
second click on Resume, and away it goes, picking up right where it
left off. On a bad day, this might happen several times, but it worked
so well that I don't recall ever having to repeat a download.

(With a 10 Mb broadband, the time went from 8 hours to 4 /minutes/.
 Dial-up is a PITA.)

Build problems with hsqldb

2013-01-29 Thread Regina Henschel

Hi all,

after hard-drive problems I have got a new disk and a fresh Windows 7.
Then I have made a new build environment and start my first build of
r1439888 on that system.

I get the errors
BUILD FAILED
C:\AOO_2013_01_24\trunk\main\hsqldb\wntmsci12\misc\build\hsqldb\build\build.xml:314:
Compile failed; see the compiler error output for details.

Details see below.

My Java is version jdk1.7.0_11.

Is the problem in this jdk or is it in hsqldb?

I do not like to install the old Java 6, but would that solve the build
problem?

Or which configure switch would I need to work around the problem?

Kind regards
Regina

One approach might be to put up the new script and other.html page.
Wait a couple of hours. If we don't get a dozen reports of problems
in that time then we know things are not horribly broken. The blog
post can come later, once we are sure there are no distribution
errors. Then we enable the update notifications. Ideally we get
through all these steps *before* Fosdem.

So I'm in favor of moving it ahead now, unless there is a technical
 reason not to.

I'm traveling right now but I can help for the next 3 hours, and then
again later tonight (New York time).

Re: Build problems with hsqldb

2013-01-29 Thread Kay Schenk

[top posting]

Regina --

Hi, yes, we've been discussing this the last few days...maybe take a
look at the following thread --

http://markmail.org/message/ls4qtctpmow3e3xi

It seems you *might* be able to dump a newer version of hsqldb jar into
/ext_sources (your local repository) and see what happens. I haven't
tried this myself, but just an idea.

I think we're all eager to move on with java issues.

FWIW, I too recently applied the security patch to jdk1.7.0_11
and this did cause all kinds of issues with 3.4.1.

On 01/29/2013 02:08 PM, Regina Henschel wrote:

Hi all,

C:\AOO_2013_01_24\trunk\main\hsqldb\wntmsci12\misc\build\hsqldb\build\build.xml:314:
Compile failed; see the compiler error output for details.

Details see below.

My Java is version jdk1.7.0_11.

Is the problem in this jdk or is it in hsqldb?

I do not like to install the old Java 6, but would that solve the build
problem?

Or which configure switch would I need to work around the problem?

Kind regards
Regina

2013-01-29 Thread Andrew Douglas Pitonyak

Rakesh, I am sending this to the dev mailing list, perhaps they can fix
what ails the wiki.

It is not possible to create new accounts on mwiki. Is this a known
problem, and will it be fixed soon? This has been happening for at least
two days.

MWHttpRequest::factory: allow_url_fopen needs to be enabled for pure PHP
http requests to work. If possible, curl should be used instead. See

Thoughts? Good resources for something like this?

I know some browsers provide this type of service as an add-on etc. also.

Maybe add after the 3.4.1 re-spin in a week or so.

I don't think we want to start recommending specific 3rd party
download managers. There are good ones free, open source, as well as
commercial. But we should not become advertisers for 3rd party
products.

But saying that a download manager is useful in many cases, and
pointing the user here might be good:

OK, to create an own page and write some stuff that could be identified
as advertising is of course not the correct way. But some little text
about what a DL manager can do for you, advantages/disadvantages and a
link to a list of applications like you mentioned is IMHO OK.

Yes, great idea. To restart where the previous download stopped is not known
by the most people, I guess. How to do this actually could be described in a
little extra page in the download area.

Unfortunately, I've no experience with this as nowadays my Internet
connection is too good. ;-(

You need to delete the file org.openoffice.script.savedState
It is located this folder: /Users/user name/Library/Saved Application State
The user/library folder is hidden in Lion and Mountain Lion.
In finder, Option-click the Go menu to locate it.

Go to this link for instructions for more details, with screenshots.

Andre,

This is looking really great.

Re: colour
An initial goal for the sidebar is to compliment, but not compete with of
distract users from the canvas. In an effort to minimize UI noise and help keep
the focus on the editor canvas - the work - I recommend we adopt a hybrid of
proposal 1 3: a grey background with suitable contrast for the title
sections, a darker grey.

Another option might be to use a gradient for the section title. Darker to
lighter, top to bottom. This would frame the header, reinforce the
expand/collapse affordable And reinforce the info architecture. More
importantly, if the gradient resolved to the background colour, it would
eliminate the line between the header text and the content. This will
strengthen the association between the section title and content and mitigate
the Lego effect. I can prep a sketch to illustrate my point.

Re: control styles
Again, noise reduction and consistency would be best. Flat backgrounds are
consistent with other toolbars and reduce non-actionable pixels. I recommend we
implement Proposal B.

Again, great job.

I'm looking forward to exploring new and exciting uses for the sidebar
framework.

Here is what I counted out (some people voted for multiple options. And
if some one just say I like 3, I will +1 for A3, B3 and C3):

A1: 4
A2: 1
A3: 2
B1: 5
