This wonders me as I have setup a system without any Visual Studio
installed. The compiler comes with the Windows SDK. This system does not
have the memntioned key in the registry and the configure works.

I will have a closer look into the configure.

The path exist, however there was a key missing in the registry.
Installing Visual studio express did not add the key specifying where to
find VC. I simply added the key oowintool was looking for on line 236.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\Setup\VC\ProductDir
and gave it the value "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio
9.0\VC"

Hm..
What version of Visual Studio Express did you install?
Version 2008 which contains the compiler which is needed to build AOO is no
longer publicly available.

I thought it was available via the Windows SDK for Windows 7:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3138

The needed compiler comes with the Windows SDK, but not the Visual
Studio Express application.

For building AOO the compiler is needed, Visual Studio is not needed.

Best regards, Oliver.

As far as I remember, if you have give the paths to the compiler as
configure options 'oowintool' should not be called. I need to have a closer
look.

Best regards, Oliver.

After that the configure and bootstrap steps executed ok, as far as I can
see.

RE: EXTERNAL: Re: Building comphelper

2014-01-16 Thread Steele, Raymond
Hey,

I just wanted to share the basics of what I have found so far. I still have no
idea on how to solve the issue. Any help would be great!

Observed Behaviour
1. OpenOffice starts, the splash screen with logo appears and then closes
replaced with the full application window and choices for specific OpenOffice
projects.
2. Selecting either the Word or Spreadsheet project causes a segmentation
fault and closes the application.
3. Following the start of the application with the debugger, we can see
the SidebarController is created in a first pass without error (known because
first time to this stop point does not error).
4. As the process continues, the SidebarController constructor is called a
second time (unknown why, but could be understood with more familiarity with
the system).
5. The failure doesn't appear in the constructor, but the trace follows
down SidebarController constructor call of "WeakReference
WeakController (this);"
6. This template definition for WeakController uses
Reference::Refrence( interface_type *pInterface) as its definition in
::com::sun::star::uno::Reference.hxx.
7. The function will try to convert the pInterface parameter to a
XInterface type called _pInterface.
8. If it succeeds in converting the pInterface to _pInterface then the
function will try to acquire a new reference.
9. Assumption: Creating this new reference calls
SidebarController::notifyContextChangeEvent with a corrupt or bad rEvent. This
assumption is based on the stack where the immediate next routine after the
Reference function call is the notifyContextChangeEvent, also while following
along in the debugger, the rEvent parameter at this point is already corrupted
with the value stored in the structure.
10. It is later after the notifyContextChangeEvent calls Context and then
ustring that the segmentation fault occurs, but I believe the error located in
rEvent is what causes this later problem.

Thanks,

David Meffe

The crashes in Writer and Calc you are seeing both happen when copy
constructing an OUString from one provided by the SidebarController, so the
provided string must be bad.

I suggest to set a breakpoint at SidebarController.cxx:257 and examine the
rEvent.ApplicationName and rEvent.ContextName whether these are good strings.
From the stack I'd say they probably are not. Then go up the stack and check
where they come from and why their are bad.

Good luck!

Appreciation from a LibreOffice user on the addition of IAccessible2 support

2014-01-16 Thread Rob Weir
Hi David,

I noticed your note on the LibreOffice mailing mailing list:

http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/accessibility/msg00589.html

Since no one mentioned this on the LO mailing list, I wanted to point
out that the A11Y improvements came from the Apache OpenOffice
project. LibreOffice takes the code and merges it in with their
product.

I'm cc'ing the OpenOffice dev mailing list so they can read your
message and your thanks.

Of course, I'm happy to see this code used by OpenOffice users as well
as LibreOffice users. My only hope is that the LibreOffice developers
will start contributing back to OpenOffice any bug fixes that they
make in this area, a common courtesy in most every other open source
project. It would be great if we could work together in this area to
better serve the community and advance our shared interest in reducing
the digital divide.

It would be wonderful as well, if you find any reproducible bugs in
this area, that you let us at Apache know as well.

Regards,

Rob Weir, Apache OpenOffice

You made it very difficult for me to tell you about this. If you really want to
improve your product you might want to think about putting an item, under
"Help" on the file menu to make it easier to report observed glitches.

 The problems I observed are in:  File/wizards/document converter/ select
staroffice and then text document when I hit next I tried to change the save
location on the documents and hit the button that I assume should say browse
but displays "..." which took me to the "select path" window that does not
display the navigation, "new folder" and "view menu" buttons that the "Save"
and "Open" windows have. When I tried to select a a path, only the last folder
selected was displayed. (When I located the path by other means and pasted it
into the "Save to:" window it took it.) Then I stopped what I was doing to let
you know what I had seen I realized, in the process that, that was not what I
was trying to do so,I did not convert anything. I hope this helps make
OpenOffice a better product. Thanks sooo much for making OpenOffice available
for free. If I find anything else, I will let you know and if you need anymore
info. let me know.

Tracking document corruption reports

2014-01-16 Thread Rob Weir
I've created a short survey related to document corruption issues,
specifically the kind where the contents of a file is replaced by hash
marks. The survey asks the user for information related to the
circumstances of the issue, the machine configuration, OpenOffice
settings, etc. The hope is that we can collect this information is a
systematic way and narrow down the problem.

So when we see reports of this kind of problem again, let's please ask
the user to enter the details here:

http://survey.openoffice.org/index.php/334187/lang-en

This will be most useful for new reports going forward, where the user
will have this information fresh in their mind. However, if you have
a good recollection of a previous incident, you can enter the details
for those as well.

(I've posted this information on the English Community Forum as well)

The other change -- which probably needs more discussion -- is to
implement some form of "skiplinks". The current problem is a user
needs to tab over the navigation links on every page they load before
they get to the actual page contents. Best practice is to have some
short cut to go directly to navigation, to content, to footer. The
tricky thing is to do this in a way that works well with the page
design as well.

This page implements it in a clever way:

http://accessites.org/site/2006/05/skip-link-pros-and-cons/

Hit tab a couple times in your browser and you'll see the links show
up in the upper right. This is done with CSS tricks to position the
 off screen except when it has the focus.

So they have this meta-navigation:

 Jump to Content
 Jump to Navigation
 Jump to Footer

And from http://accessites.org/site/wp-content/themes/beastblog-v2/style.css:

ul.offset, .offset {
  position : absolute;
  top : -9000px;
  left : -9000px;
  z-index : 9;
}

ul.offset a:focus, ul.offset a:active {
  position : absolute;
  top : 9010px;
  left : 9010px;
  background-color : #33;
  color : #fff;
  padding : 5px;
  font-weight : bold;
  border : 2px solid #000;
  width : 6em;
  z-index : 9;

So navigation menu is 9000 pixels off the screen, except when it has
the focus, in which case it is brought in net 10 pixels.

But I wonder what happens if you try to print a page like that.
Hopefully the browsers are smart enough not to print many blank pages
followed by the off-screen menu...

The complication with our website is that we have side menu navigation
on some (but not all pages). But we have top nav, and footer, on all
pages.

Re: Suggested modifications to Open Office Draw

Hi Ian,

thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated. Some are pretty
interesting. Comments inline...

RE:
Suggested modifications to Open Office Draw

Hello,

The
following suggestions generally have work around solutions, however
performing such is a real pain when these are common actions.

1.
Re
the ruler on the left side, please orientate the numbers
horizontally.
The
vertical numbering blends together and is unreadable.

I have not seen it blend togethter, but I agree that these would be less
irritating when done horizontally.

2.
Re
Snap Lines, Snap Points and Grid
a.
It
is a common error that when positioning lines and shapes that the
Snap Line or Snap Point is accidentally moved slightly.
This
is often not noticed immediately.
Please
provide an option to lock these Snaps into their set position.

Doy you talk about
- objects that get placed or
- objects which help positioning (HelpLines, Grid, edges of existing
objects, ...)
here? If you have cases where there is a misplacement in snapping,
please provide a reproducable example, this would be an error. Please
note that snapping can be influenced while in action by pressing
qualifiers (shift, ctrl, tab) and by changing snap features (see
view/toolbars/options in draw).
Note that you can create helplines with start to drag on the rulers,
they even have an UI for setting them to precise positions.

b.
It
would also be nice when dragging such Snaps that the X-Y co-ordinates
are displayed during the dragging,

This is in the last line of the app at the left; a text and measurements
dependent of the type of action is displayed.
The idea to keep this after MouseUp for a defined time is nice,
especially since the reason is very good.

and displayed for say 1 second
after the mouse button is released.
It
provides confirmation to the user that the setting was not altered
upon releasing the mouse button.

c.
It
would be very good if the Snaps could be grouped with an object and:

I do not understand if "Snaps" are the graphic objects or snap helper
pobjects; of course graphic objects can be grouped.

d.
that
upon copying and pasting onto another page that those Snaps are also
retained (the position would be relative to where you placed the
group on the page).

Also not clear. The grid on the destinatopnmay be defined dofferent, do
you want that to be changed when pasting?

e.
I
do not know if there is already a way to do this, but it would be a
big help if when dragging Snaps that they would snap to the selected
grid.

They do depending on the settings

f.
And
I do not see any way to specify the grid divisions.
Again,
this would be a help.

See tools/options/draw/grid

3.
Please
provide a line circular arc tool that lets you:
a. Specify the origin
(point of rotation)
b. Specify the radius
c. Specify the arc
begin angle
d. Specify the arc end
angle
e. Allows an option to
close the curve at the origin to create a segment

In the drawing toolbar, use the rightmost dropdown from the toolbar
itself, choose customize. Use "add", Seelct "drawing" left, add what you
need. Best is to add "Ellipse", there are two, use the general one which
adds another drop-down toolbox to the menu.

4.
Please
provide a line arc tool that lets you click on a line and convert it
to a circular arc – the point would appear at the centre of the
line and be dragged at a normal to the line
So
instead of Modify – To Curve you would also have Modify – To
Circular Curve

You should be able to do that using the Points mode (see icon or press
F8 in draw/impress) and using the bezier stuff.

5.
Please
provide an option to allow a line to be specified in two ways, shown
on the one dialog box
a. Origin, length and
angle
b. Begin point and end
point

This is missing, only pos/size is available for the object, so if it's a
line you can define the start/end point exactly.

6.
It
is a real major pain that intersecting lines cannot be selected and
fragmented at their intersecting point(s).
Please
fix this.

Not possible with lines; would need to constuct filled objects including
the lines, using substract and extract the results.

Good suggestion to offer that with lines directly.

7.
Please
make it easy to add onto a line by clicking onto a line, selecting an
end point, then selecting a line tool (line, arc, polygon) and then
just use that line tool to extend the original line.

You can add/remove/edit points using the edit points toolbar

8.
Lastly,
I know this is not intended to be a 3D Cad program.
But
a few features would help.
a. Have the ability to
group several shapes before rotation.

This is possible, group or just multi-select what you need

b. When the 3D view
comes up, have buttons to select the front, top, bottom and side
views (a total of 6 views).
c. This is a big one –
some ability to edit 3D shapes

Building on Windows 7

2014-01-16 Thread jonasalfreds...@gmail.com
Hi,

I'm trying to build Open Office from trunk on Windows 7. Had some trouble
getting through the configure and bootstrap but finally now building step is
starting. A few modules into the build the following error occurs in module
jpeg:

$ build --all:jpeg

I have no clue to where to begin looking for the source to this error
message. Any hints would be very helpful.

Thanks

/Jonas

Re: config error on Windows 7

2014-01-16 Thread jonasalfreds...@gmail.com
Hi,

> Does this path/directory - C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0\
> - exist on your system?

The path exist, however there was a key missing in the registry.
Installing Visual studio express did not add the key specifying where to
find VC. I simply added the key oowintool was looking for on line 236.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\Setup\VC\ProductDir
and gave it the value "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio
9.0\VC"

After that the configure and bootstrap steps executed ok, as far as I can
see.

/Jonas

Yes, this is very critical and I will provide a patch today.
The crash occurs in case there a character formatting at the annotated
text range.

Issue is fixed, now.
The next buildbot builds will contain the fix.

Best regards, Oliver.

Bug 124028 - Highlight of commented/annotated text range gets lost when
export as PDF by AOO

Please have a look at my comment in the issue.
Short version: PDF export of AOO and Microsoft Word regarding
comments/annotations are not comparable. To enhance AOO's PDF for
comments/annotations on text ranges further details from the PDF format
are needed.

Bug 124027 - The list numbers/bullets in comment/annotation get lost

This issue is not related to the new introduced feature to apply
comments/annotations on text ranges. For further details have a look at
my comment to the issue.

Best regards, Oliver.

The first one is critical and fails all test cases.

I will have a look at these issues.
