They are currently working on it, to get the tuned examples out soon.

However, from the appearance of their response, deeplearning4j has
few bugs/issues with gradient calculation after they moved to nd4j.

I can see two options right now,

 1. Wait till the bugs are fixed and tuned examples are out
 2. Write autoencoder myself, adhering to the coding style they have
followed. So the example can be easily integrated with deeplearning4j
 after
 a stable version is out.

 Would highly appreciate your feedback.

 *Poor Accuracy*
I have been testing DL4J extensively with *MNIST and Iris*

 reasonable
accuracy with DL4J for the aforementioned datasets. The F1-score
 was around
 0.02, which is very low.

I tried with different settings mainly for the following
 attributes

 Weight initialization
 Gradient Descent
 Iterations
 Type of units: Autoencoder/RBM

But none of the settings gave a reasonable accuracy.
Furthermore, the predicted values for the test data usually
 *belong
to 1 or 2 classes *(e.g. when trained on MNIST dataset, the
program predict 0 and 1 only, though there are 10 possible
 classes)

Also there are many reports of *poor accuracy of DL4J.* The
best accuracy I could find reported was around 0.5 F1 score for
 MNIST,
which is still very low. (e.g. MNIST can easily reach 0.9+
 accuracy for
 even a basic deep network)

I'm currently trying to delve in to the code for DL4J and
figure out how the learning is done. I'm assuming there are some
 faults in
the learning process which causes the algorithm to learn poorly.

 Thank you

 Hi,
Senaka F and I were just discussing this yesterday and it looks like there
are some other problems with the .sh file . Seneka pointed out a few things
 like...

 1) the script is supposed to run under any scripting language (!/bin/sh) but
then reverts back to bash only at one point when running a command. Seems
like an inconsistency - what is the customer pre-req list - that they have to
have bash ? In which case why do we put !/bin/sh ?

 2) There are quite a few places where the right syntax is used e.g.
“$CARBON_DUMP” but only a few others where it’s not.

 3) Also: I just looked in Carbondump.sh and it seems to want only bash
environment (“!/usr/bash”).this ties in with [1] where we suggest one pre-req
in one file but another pre-req in another?

So, it looks like we may have more than just this one inconsistency in the
various cmd files. Seneka suggested some kind of code review - does this make
sense to you as well ? Looks like the review may have to look at all the bat
sh scripts we provide not just startserver.sh - just to make sure ?

 many thanks,
 John.

Hi,

If the value of tableName does not match a table already existing you need
to provide the schema. Something like this should work,

CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE debsTempPlug USING CarbonAnalytics OPTIONS
(tableName NewTable, schema id STRING, plug_id INT, primaryKeys id) ;

Re: [Dev] WebApp classloading issue

2015-06-24 Thread Nirmal Fernando
We are also hitting the same issue when trying to use DAS
DataAnalyticsService from ML to get the list of table names.

Issue seems to get solved if DAS move to Lucene 5.0.0.wso2v1 which is the
version used by registry (Solr). DAS team is currently working on this and
for now we'll remove registry content search feature from ML which will
lead to a exception during server shutdown [1].

DAS team please update this thread once you have moved to Lucene 5.0.0.

Gimantha, did you manage to solve this issue?

An intermittent CNF with webapp class-loading normally means that, tomcat
failed dynamically import the package (org.wso2.carbon.analytics.dataservice
in here). This normally comes when we have multiple versions of a same
 package (different from org.wso2.carbon.analytics.dataservice)
conflicting with tomcat imports. The resolution for this is to make the
required bundles import or rather wire to a single version of the
 conflicting package.

If you still haven't solved this, start the server with
-DosgiDebugOptions. This will give the debug output from OSGi framework
which can give some clue on what are the conflicting packages.

Re: [Dev] wso2server.sh start/stop not working with space in

2015-06-24 Thread John Hawkins
Hi,
Senaka F and I were just discussing this yesterday and it looks like there are
some other problems with the .sh file . Seneka pointed out a few things
like...

1) the script is supposed to run under any scripting language (!/bin/sh) but
then reverts back to bash only at one point when running a command. Seems like
an inconsistency - what is the customer pre-req list - that they have to have
bash ? In which case why do we put !/bin/sh ?

2) There are quite a few places where the right syntax is used e.g.
“$CARBON_DUMP” but only a few others where it’s not.

3) Also: I just looked in Carbondump.sh and it seems to want only bash
environment (“!/usr/bash”).this ties in with [1] where we suggest one pre-req
in one file but another pre-req in another?

So, it looks like we may have more than just this one inconsistency in the
various cmd files. Seneka suggested some kind of code review - does this make
sense to you as well ? Looks like the review may have to look at all the bat
sh scripts we provide not just startserver.sh - just to make sure ?

many thanks,
John.

Re: [Dev] wso2server.sh start/stop not working with space in

2015-06-24 Thread Senaka Fernando
Hi Aruna et al,

I think its useful to do a code-review on our batch/shell scripts in
general. Over the years, we seem to have made a few mistakes here and
there. While chatting with John on this specific issue we noted a few
others.

Hi John,

May be you should report all what you've noted on a JIRA issue (on the
CARBON jira project) and Kishanthan, Aruna and all can then schedule a
review when they've found some time for this.

Thanks,
Senaka.

[Dev] [ESBJAVA-3836] - JSP compilation error on JDK 8

2015-06-24 Thread KasunG Gajasinghe
Hi,

We are using Eclipse ECJ for JSP compilation which is packed into the
Tomcat orbit bundle. We are currently using ECJ 4.3.1. To support JDK 8, we
will need to update it to ECJ 4.4.x as per this Tomcat bug [1].

To verify, can you guys try your scenario by updating the ecj version of
tomcat orbit [2] to 4.4.2?

Coordination support for Message Stores and Processors
 For-each Mediator

Enabling HTTP Cache Control headers (Etag)
 Kafka support in ESB (Experimental)

Applying QOS for services and other ESB related new features(Indbound

[Dev] Cannot extract year value in Jaggery

2015-06-24 Thread Lalanke Athauda
Hi,
I'm trying to get data from mysql database from a Jaggery app.
I created a table like this,

CREATE TABLE employee (
id INT AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY,
name VARCHAR(100) NULL,
regyear *YEAR*
);

And entered few records.

Then I extracted the data in index.jag file from the db like this,

%
var db = new Database(jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/mydb, root,
mypass);

var result = db.query(select * from employee);

print(result);
%

I got this output,

[{id : 1, name : saman kumara, regyear : {}}, {id : 2, name :
nimal perera, regyear : {}}, {id : 3, name : kapila kalinkga,
regyear : {}}, {id : 4, name : sarath senarath, regyear : {}}]

Employee's id and name can be extracted, but I couldn't get the regyear
value. It's empty. What might be the problem?

Data type of `regyear` is `year`. Shall I have to take any further steps to
solve this?

I'm using Jaggery v1.0.0-SNAPSHOT_ALPHA3 and firefox browser.
Thanks,

[Dev] Configure logstash with carbon logs

2015-06-24 Thread Kasun De Silva
Hi Devs,

What do I need to add to the repository/conf/log4j.properties file to use
the log4j socket appender to ship over all carbon logs to a network host,
while still writing to the local log files.

Also with respective to ESB wirelogs, are there any premade
multiline/logstash filters for ESB wirelogs?

Thanks,

 I noticed that, *AnalysisAPIv10.java* and *MLAnalysisHandler.jav*a are

2015-06-24 Thread Thushan Ganegedara
Hi,

Thank you very much for the clarification

I also noticed that, in the parameters.jag, after retrieve the parameters,
they are added to the variable array while changing the order

Ex:
hyperParametersArray[0] =
sanitize(hyperParametersResponse[2].value);
hyperParametersArray[1] =
sanitize(hyperParametersResponse[1].value);
hyperParametersArray[2] =
sanitize(hyperParametersResponse[0].value);

Is there a reason for doing this?

Re: [Dev] [ML] Changing the return JSON of WSO2-ML API calls

2015-06-24 Thread CD Athuraliya
Hi Thushan,

What we are getting from API has the alphabetically order (enforced by
query response and by the way we persist hyper-parameters in DB). But we
need to enforce some logical order for hyper-parameters in our UI. This is
the reason to change the order.

CD

I started looking into Jaggery UI with the intention of changing the
 interface to accommodate Deep Networks.

One of the initial tasks is to get the correct hyper parameters for the
Deep Network user select. I found out that this is returned with,
 s*erverUrl + /api/analyses/ + analysisId +
 /hyperParameters?algorithmName= + algorithmName, located in
 parameters.jag*

I started looking into the retrievel process of hyperparameters and it
seems this is using the api produced by *carbon-ml* to retrieve
 hyperparameters.

 I noticed that, *AnalysisAPIv10.java* and *MLAnalysisHandler.jav*a are
the high-level classes which handles this request.

However, I'm having trouble delving into detailed request handling.

Is there any documentation which might help? I couldn't find any dev level
documentation in the official WSO2-ml documentation.

 Thank you

Re: [Dev] [ML] Changing the return JSON of WSO2-ML API calls

2015-06-24 Thread Thushan Ganegedara
Hello CD,

Thank you very much for the explanation. It makes sense now

 Hi Thushan,

What we are getting from API has the alphabetically order (enforced by
query response and by the way we persist hyper-parameters in DB). But we
need to enforce some logical order for hyper-parameters in our UI. This is
the reason to change the order.

 Hi Thushan,

For the moment we are not retrieving algorithms in algorithm selection
step (algorithm.jag) from API. So you will have to add your new algorithm
to relevant .jag file manually (by updating markup). But for
hyper-parameters it should work by adding them to machine-learner.xml
as Nirmal has mentioned. We will be fixing algorithm.jag soon to retrieve
algorithms from API, but for now please follow these steps.

 Ok. Few pointers below;

 1. We have all the default set of hyper parameters for each algorithm
 in machine-learner.xml file.
 https://github.com/wso2/carbon-ml/blob/master/features/ml/org.wso2.carbon.ml.core.feature/src/main/resources/conf/machine-learner.xml#L55

 2. If you like to add a new algorithm, you should first add it in
 machine-learner.xml file.

 3. Then, once you select your new algorithm via UI, you'll get the
 default set of hyper parameters.

 Hi,

I'm trying to add the hyper-parameters related to deep-networks. (Deep
Networks needs several new additional parameters)
So once the ajax call made, it should return correct hyper-parameters
for the deep network algorithm specified by user.

 Hi Thushan,

Nope, we do not have one at hand as of now, but we will need to do
 one when time permits.

What are you trying to do?

Re: [Dev] wso2server.sh start/stop not working with space in

2015-06-24 Thread Kishanthan Thangarajah
Hi John,

Thanks for pointing out these issues. We will review our script files and
fix these issues for the next release. I have made this jira a must fix
for the next release.

Also If you have any other suggestions or improvements that can be
incorporated into our script files, please feel free to shoot them as-well.

Thanks,

 Hi Aruna et al,

I think its useful to do a code-review on our batch/shell scripts in
general. Over the years, we seem to have made a few mistakes here and
there. While chatting with John on this specific issue we noted a few
 others.

 Hi John,

May be you should report all what you've noted on a JIRA issue (on the
CARBON jira project) and Kishanthan, Aruna and all can then schedule a
review when they've found some time for this.

 Thanks,
 Senaka.

 Hi,
Senaka F and I were just discussing this yesterday and it looks like
there are some other problems with the .sh file . Seneka pointed out a few
 things like...

 1) the script is supposed to run under any scripting language (!/bin/sh)
but then reverts back to bash only at one point when running a command.
Seems like an inconsistency - what is the customer pre-req list - that they
have to have bash ? In which case why do we put !/bin/sh ?

 2) There are quite a few places where the right syntax is used e.g.
“$CARBON_DUMP” but only a few others where it’s not.

 3) Also: I just looked in Carbondump.sh and it seems to want only bash
environment (“!/usr/bash”).this ties in with [1] where we suggest one
pre-req in one file but another pre-req in another?

So, it looks like we may have more than just this one inconsistency in
the various cmd files. Seneka suggested some kind of code review - does
this make sense to you as well ? Looks like the review may have to look at
all the bat sh scripts we provide not just startserver.sh - just to make
 sure ?

 many thanks,
 John.

 Hi John,

You can raise a bug in the public Jira?. [1], explaining the steps to
 reproduce.

 HI Jason,

this isn't the same problem as I'm seeing is it?
 My scenario is this...

UNZIP e.g. APIM into directory with a space in the path e.g. /my
 spaced path/APIM

wso2server.sh start - doesn't appear to work. Pid file is created but
 I can't see a running process
wso2server.sh stop - fails because the cmd line produced needs
quoting. Presumably this is why the above fails as well.

 cheers,
 John.

 Hi John,

I did try it with Application Server 5.2.1 and it seems to not work
out the box. However I found out a jira issue raised for carbon [1]. And
 I
did the relevant change [2] to the wso2server.sh file and ran the
 commands
 wso2server.sh start
 wso2server.sh stop

After the change made, I observed that it works fine and you can
start / stop the server. Hope this helps

 HI Folks,

Possibly a newbie error but when I’ve unzipped wso2 server (API
manager in this case if that makes a difference) into a directory with a
 space in it e.g.

 /wso2 servers/wso2am-1.8.0

then starting and stopping the server seems to fail using the syntax

 wso2server.sh start
 wso2server.sh stop

I can see when I try the stop that it can’t find the pid file as it
interprets the file tree wrongly however I don’t think the start is
 working
anyhow so it wouldn’t find anything to stop :-)

 Any thoughts ?

 John.
