Re: [digitalradio] Interface

2009-05-14 Thread Siegfried Jackstien
if it is the right interface there should be 2 phono plugs one for audio
(patch in) and one for ptt

that is what i read from the donner homepage ...
what you need is
audio in trx line out pc
audio out line in pc (can be mic in on some laptops)
ptt trx serial port
that 3 connections has to be made ...you CAN build your interface from parts of
your junkbox . you will find several descriptions in the net for
homebrewing ...
but if you don´t know where the hot side of a soldering iron is (just kidding)
:-)
it is better to buy one
just my 2 cents

I'm going to use Donner's Digital Interface
(http://home.att.net/~n8st/DDI-index.html)
and it comes with a phono plug for my FT1000MP, where does the phono plug,
plug into on the back of the radio? I'm running HRD.

[digitalradio] Windows 98 Key needed

2009-05-14 Thread Dave
Does anyone have a key for Windows 98 from an UNUSED installation?

My old laptop came with Win98, and thought I would resurrect it for use on
digital modes. I have the original restoration CDs, but apparently have lost
the paperwork with the key.

This is NOT a request to pirate the OS! I have the original disk, and if
someone still has a key left over from a Win98 installation that is no longer
used, I will be happy to give it a good home.

Tried upgrading the laptop to WinXP, but it's too slow for it to work.
Reinstalled Win98, but stuck at the Enter Key screen.

This is an ideal opportunity to install Linux and give it a go, it's
support for older hardware is quite good, it's improving every day, and
has plenty of ham radio software available including software I control
my rig with. (FT-817)

I'd suggest Ubuntu as a good start, it's simple and the easiest to move
from windows.

I've had Linux, and specifically Ubuntu installed twice on a dual-boot
machine. That may be an option at some time for the laptop, but for now
I'd prefer to stick with Windows - as painful as that might be hi hi!

Hi,
I believe Microsoft has published the key - they no longer support the OS but
thought that they made the key available (to avoid dealing with such support
requests as yours!).
Do a google search and see what you find.

   ^^ 2 V's not a W -

you can also find it in the registry

Click on Start and then Run.
In the text box in the Run window, type regedit and click OK.
This will open the Registry Editor program. Note: Do not
make any changes to any entry anywhere in Registry Editor
to avoid causing serious system issues. These steps only
direct you to view entries, not to make changes.

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder under My Computer
and click on the (+) sign next the folder name to expand the folder.
In the resulting folders, locate and click on the (+) sign next to
Software to expand this folder.
In the resulting folders, locate and click on the (+) sign next to
Microsoft to expand this folder.
In the resulting folders, locate and click on the (+) sign next to
Windows to expand this folder.
In the resulting folders, locate and click on the Current Version folder.
In the results that appear in the window on the right, locate the ProductID.
The numbers and letters on this line represent the Windows 98 product key.
The product key should be formatted like x-x-x-x-x -
five sets of five letters and numbers.

Write this product key down exactly as it is found here for use when
reinstalling Windows 98. Note: If even one character is written down
incorrectly, the installation of Windows 98 that you attempt with this
product key will fail. Be sure to transcribe the key exactly.

Close Registry Editor without making any changes.

Look on the bottom of the unit. If it had factory installed windows, the
original license and key should be affixed to the unit.
