[digitalradio] Stealing the N0UK/Ping Jockey Central Idea ? Need programmer
I corresponded with Chris N0UK about stealing his cgi that he uses to create the very useful service for JT65A terrestrial users (and other pages for MS/EME) . He was nice enough to offer to share his code with me but I realized there was still too much work for a non-programmer like me. I don't have the C knowledge that would be needed, nor do I have a whole lot of experience in creating cgi scripts. I wonder though, would the type of page he has created at http://www.chris.org/cgi-bin/jt65talk be useful to digitalradio members looking for activity for other digital modes, not JT65 or FFSK441? The DX Cluster is getting little use these days and I do take it down occasionally during thunderstorms. Chris' concept would reside on my web site's host server not on my PC locally, so it would be down less . My web site has unlimited traffic limit and is high speed. If anyone has the requisite programming skills to create something akin to what Chris has created, I would be happy to host it and promote it via the email group. There are other html post-get type of pages that collect DX cluster spots, I'm looking to replicate the more interactive aspect of Chris' service for the Olivia, Hell, Dominoex, PAx2 users at Digitalradio. I know enough PHP to be dangerous, so if no one else wants the job, I could hack together a similar page some evening if needed. -Joe, N8FQ On Wed, 25 Apr 2007 07:39:05 -0400 Andrew O'Brien [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: If anyone has the requisite programming skills to create something akin to what Chris has created, I would be happy to host it and promote it via the email group.

What's his code written in, what's he using for a database, and what database and tools are available on your web server (ColdFusion, ASP, etc)? It mostly comes down to the tools/environment you have available on your web site: For example, Joe N8FQ knows PHP -- I, on the other hand, know no PHP but have written a ton of ColdFusion in the past few years. Chris' page looks very simple, and should be quite easily do-able for somebody who know the tools you have available in your web environment. de Peter K1PGV

Here's what I have after hacking at it on and off for the last 2 hours or so: http://www.electroblog.com:8090/drsked/drsked.php The user list is not implemented yet, and there are a few things I want to change (click on a call pops up a user bio window, rather than having all that info on the line), but it should be usable as it is. -Joe, N8FQ On Wed, 25 Apr 2007 09:47:55 -0400 Andrew O'Brien [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Thanks Joe , feel free to go ahead. Joe, This is amazing, well done! It works very well. Do you want to keep it at your site or do you eventually want to shift it to my domain? Either is OK with me. If we need to transfer to mine, I'll need to make sure that whatever magic you used is supported by my hosting company. Here;s what I have 20GB disk space - Unmetered data transfers A full suite of site design tools, support for industry standard web design applications such as Microsoft FrontPage or Macromedia Dreamweaver Top scripting languages and database tools like ASP, PHP, and MySQL for building interactive websites SSL support for e-commerce sites SSL data encryption is necessary when sending sensitive information via the internet Andy. Probably better to put it on your site (once it's finished of course). The ad says it supports PHP, so that's most of what it requires right there. Make a text file with a .php extension, containing the following line: ?php phpinfo(); ? Upload it to you host and then open it in your browser. Two bits of info on the resulting page are important: 1. the version of PHP, mainly if it's version 4.x or 5.x (my dev box runs 5.x, but I think the script will run on 4.x) 2. whether or not DBA support is enabled. It needs to be for the script to work as it is written (it uses the Berkeley DB lib, specifically version 4.2) Given that, it should be deployable without much effort. -Joe, N8FQ On Wed, 25 Apr 2007 16:09:36 -0400 Andrew O'Brien [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Joe, This is amazing, well done!
