 4. A wireless Sony baby monitor.

It seems totally random as to when it occurs. And very perplexing.

Yep, that sounds like a mobile phone. They'll interfere with just
about anything - remember they are transmitting with enough power to be
picked up by a base station that could be miles away. They also
chatter to the base station even when you're not actually in a call.
The only sure way to shut them up is to turn them off! And it may not
be anything to do with the bluetooth either - you could try turning it
off, but I doubt it will make a difference.

[slim] Re: SlimServer 6.3 no longer groups compilation albums

2006-06-27 Thread ModelCitizen

Am I right in thinking that this issue has not been raised as a
SlimServer bug? If so, it seems to me that it probably should be, just
to ensure that 6.3 does not go out with this problem still included.

All my files are flac, all tagged using MP3Tag.
Each disk is held in a separate directory, i.e.

Music Folder/Artist - Album [Label,Year]/disc 1

I only populate the title, artist, album, tracknumber, genre, year and
comments fields. These are the tags supported by default by MP3Tag. I
have never populated compilation, band or any of the more esoteric
ones. The artist tag holds the name of the artist for that song. I do
not tag the artist field of compilation albums as various artists
(and rather fail to see why anyone would want to do this).

6.3 seems to randomly give me multiple listings of compilation albums
eg:

Acoustic Songbook (disk 1) (2004) by Norah Jones
Acoustic Songbook (disk 1) (2004) by Various Artists
Acoustic Songbook (disk 2) (2004) by John Lennon
Acoustic Songbook (disk 2) (2004) by Bobby Womack
Acoustic Songbook (disk 2) (2004) by Various Artists
Acoustic Songbook (disk 3) (2004) by Ralf McTell

I can retag all three disks in MP3Tag but this is just as likely to
have the effect of changing the incorrect way the multiple entries are
listed rather than curing the listing. What is more frustrating is that
when I have cured an album listing by refreshing the tag info the next
6.3 nightly will list them completely differently and incorrectly again
(this with database deleted).

If anyone could point me towards an open bug for this matter I'd be
grateful. If there is not an open bug is the concensus still that this
problem is not a bug?

Cheers
MC

[slim] Re: Why would stuttering SUDDENLY start?

2006-06-27 Thread Heuer

I have been running some tests over the last few days. My SB3 is wired
via Devolos to the router. From there I have a choice of Dell high
performance PC, Qnap TS-101 and ReadyNAS NV. All three have identical
FLAC music files and differ only in processing power and memory (hard
disks aside). The best test is to run Random songs (200 ahead, 5 back)
as this really puts pressure on the processor. In fact if you skip
forward a song you will invariably get stuttering or a pause because of
the way Slimserver creates the random list.

On the PC I get a very short silent blip, on the Qnap and NV I get up
to 10 seconds of silence (it varies) before music resumes. Same thing
happens with stutterting on normal play. It only happens occasionally
but is it worse and more frequent on the NAS's than the PC. So my view
is it is a bug and related to processing or memory requirements.

[slim] mac intel browser reload

2006-06-27 Thread fredrickj

I just set up my new intel Macbook wtih slimserver. Went seemlessly and
work's great but I've noticed something I had not on my emac or pc
setups.

The Safari browser reloads several time a minute for some reason. This
doesn't effect performance as far as I can tell. Just don't understand
what's going on here. I've been unable to find any settings anywhere
that would allow me to turn this function off.

It's just odd to see the page constantly reloading.

Anyone know?

I have a 12 touchscreen with a resolution of 800x600.
This is just enough to use the touchscreeen skin of slimserver.

With a smaller screen, you will be obliged to run the handeld skin.
But then, why not consider to purchased a PDA ? The Palm Lifedrive for
example has wi-fi connection, a touchscreen and an audio output.
You can stream music from slimserver to a Lifedrive, I can say it works
because I've tried with mine.

[slim] Duplicate/triplicate artist names

My slimserver has just started duplicating or even (see attached JPG)
triplicating artist names in the web GUI.

I have the title format set to ARTIST - TITLE and it's been working
ok for the last few days. I saw this effect for the first time when I
restarted my slimserver after it has been shutdown for a couple of
days.

I searched the forums and couldn't seen anything like this reported by
anyone else, does anyone have any ideas why this might be?

That's bizarre! First, what format are your music files in? Second, have
you examined your tags using a tagging utility like mp3tag? I'm guessing
(and only guessing at this stage) that you could get this if you had
FLAC files with multiple ARTIST tags, although there are probably other
things that can cause this.

If the tags look okay and you haven't already done so, you should do a
clear rescan, or better yet, delete the cache file and let slimserver
rebuild it from scratch. Good luck.

[slim] Nokia 770 - wireless range

2006-06-27 Thread gwiddicombe

I've recently purchased a Nokia 770, which I was hoping to use as a
wireless device to control the Squeezebox, and also to use as a Network

I'm having problems with the device dropping signal at quite small
distances away from the router (say 20 metres). My other wireless
devices have no problems at the distance I'm trying to use the Nokia
770 at.

Any ideas what I can do about this? I've checked the settings on the
device and have chosen the 'best' settings available. I have a Netgear

Any advice appreciated.

[slim] Any alternatives to the Nokia 770?

2006-06-27 Thread philodox

Hey Guys,

Like the title says, I am wondering if there are any other devices I
should consider in my search for a fun remote for my
squeezebox/internet browsing device.

Thanks,

Jason

Sure, there are plenty

Any web-capable pda via:
- The handheld skin; The Dell Axim x51v is currently having a
specific skin built for it by shawkie (there's a thread on here about
it).
- Michael Herger's SlimRemote (Most windows mobile devices support
this)
- Telcanto

The PlayStation Portable:
- user lowrent is current is currently developing a flash skin for
the PSP
- you can currently use the handheld skin but it's supposedly pretty
slow

a couple of other ideas that various forum members have mentioned:

- Old, discontinued HP Jornadas can be picked up for cheap ($200) on
ebay, can have a modern flavor of linux installed on them, and are
apparently quite nice and snappy.

- Old Fujitsu Stylistic tablet pc's can be picked up for cheap on ebay
($200). These are nice because they're full pc's, but are a little
bulky.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Opera for the DS.lite, but until
then I'm using an old Honeywell Webpad (which is s l o w . . .)

Re: [slim] Announcement: SlimServer 6.3.0

2006-06-27 Thread Dave Dewey
Quoting andyg ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

We're pleased to announce the official release of SlimServer 6.3.0.

You can download 6.3.0 at http://www.slimdevices.com/download

There's a possible bug in the RPM with dependency checking.

Upon trying to install the 6.3.0 RPM under Fedora Core 3 I received the
following error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/root/-rpm -Uvh SlimServer_v6.3.0.noarch.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
perl-Digest-SHA1 is needed by slimserver-6.3.0-1.noarch

I then successfully installed Digest::SHA1 v. 2.11 using CPAN, my preferred
method of managing Perl modules:

 ---

 CPAN.pm: Going to build G/GA/GAAS/Digest-SHA1-2.11.tar.gz

Checking if your kit is complete...
 Looks good
 Writing Makefile for Digest::SHA1
...
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/Digest/SHA1/SHA1.bs
Installing
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/Digest/SHA1/SHA1.so
Files found in blib/arch: installing files in blib/lib into architecture
dependent library tree
Installing
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/Digest/SHA1.pm
Installing /usr/share/man/man3/Digest::SHA1.3pm
Writing
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/Digest/SHA1/.packlist
Appending installation info to
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/perllocal.pod
  /usr/bin/make install -- OK

 ---

Attempted to install Slimserver again with the following result:

 ---

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/root/Desktop-rpm -Uvh SlimServer_v6.3.0.noarch.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
perl-Digest-SHA1 is needed by slimserver-6.3.0-1.noarch

 ---

I finally took the clue from the name given in the error that what it was
looking for was the RPM version of Digest::SHA1. Installed that RPM via
Yum, reattemped Slimserver installation and it worked perfectly.

The bottom line is that it appears that the install script is looking for
the RPM version of Digest::SHA1 and ignores that the actual module may be
already installed via other means.
