Re: [slim] Internet Radio over PPP
I like it when my gadgets work. Installing 6.5.2, and setting the new "proxied streaming" option got it working: I am now streaming the Radio Paradise 128K mp3 stream via my PPP connection provided by Sprint! Slimserver then sends it on to my SB3 over my LAN. In my opinion: this is an essential feature in Slimserver. Ok, can ask Logitech and the Slim community to extend this feature so that we can stream other formats as well, such as AAC and WMA? It does not seem to work for anything other than mp3. I tried streaming a 128K AAC+ stream, and the Slimserver browser interface went nuts with what looked like garbled html written directly into the browser display. Still - I am quite thankful for what I got:) because before I could not stream anything at all. Now for some internet radio listening... -Ron -- Ron F. Re: [slim] iTunes import issue - Getting the Artist to show up
Thatks good to know. Can we presume it will be fixed to like it was before? I'd rather not remove the composer information unless absolutely necessary - even if it means for now I'll have to look for the album under "Albums" rather than "Artists" Generally it has all been working great. I still have problems with artwork showing up. I can usually fix that by copying the cover art, selecting all tracts on the album and then doing "get info" and pasting them in. If I rescan the art is there. Usually. Unless it disappears agian. -- barty barty's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10121 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34758 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I thought you said you had an old G4 mac that looked like a half golf ball? Parallels WILL NOT work on that. It only works on recent Intel Macs. If you have one of those, or plan to get one of those, then you can run EAC - though its probably going to be a lot quicker using Windows in a BootCamp partition rather than virtualized in Parallels, which according to reports slows EAC down to a crawl. Thanks, > > Steve If all you're looking for is external storage and plan to run slimserver off your Mac, and not interested in sharing files off computers, then I'd recommend two external USB drives. The USB drives are simpler, so they're generally less expensive --- sometimes much less expensive --- than NASs. Why two external USB drives? Because eventually every hard drive will fail, and so you'll need one as a backup. Personally, I think RAID is overrated for applications like storing your music library. It protects well against down time from drive failure, but not against other dangers like human error (accidentally deleting files), theft, fire, flood, stray projectiles, etc. If possible, keep the backup drive off-site, and bring it home as needed to update the backup. I use a NAS for my main music library because it runs slimserver and it's also an integral part of the backup system for the other computers in the house. I keep a USB at the office, and periodically bring it home to sync/backup. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34911 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

So long as you have a Windows license, that's correct. It's how I have used EAC so far. I've only used it a little bit though, but it's worked fine. I haven't used it enough to know if using EAC through Parallels takes longer than on a standalone Windows box, but it definitely gets the job done. -- prabbit prabbit's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11142 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34897 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] NAS vs. external USB
My opinion - albeit based on experience with only one of the options, but considerable anecdotal reading of the other - is to forget the NAS idea and go with simple external hard disks (USB or Firewire). The reason for saying this is the significant number of threads in this forum over the past few months from people wrestling with setting up/upgrading/troubleshooting their various NAS set-ups. It seems to me that these are typically compromised in their flexibility, power, ability to run the latest version of SlimServer, add plugins, etc, and offer in compensation very little other than what appears to be some sort of holy grail for a few people of "not having a computer on 24/7". As I understand it, the NAS is a (crippled) form of a computer so what's the big deal anyway. And if you are already running your Mac and happy with it, why have a second computer running on your network? As far as securing backups I do not believe NAS offers any advantage unless you set it up as a RAID array, which seems a little complicated to me. My advice would be to buy 2 external drives of the same size (500 to 600 Gb disks are widely available and reasonably priced) and hook them both up to your Mac, copy the music files to both of them and then run a backup routine to regularly copy what is added to the main drive to the backup copy. You can do this with rsync or if you prefer a GUI there are a number of programs which can do this including automation of copying. Just my opinion of course - I'm sure there are NAS fans who will suggest benefits that I am unable to see for myself. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34911 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Syncing between SlimServer on Windows, iTunes on Mac
I thought I'd post my workflow for others to follow that may also have this setup. Here's a summary: Mac-formatted iPod iTunes 7.1.1 on my Mac OSX 10.4.9 iTunes 7.1.1 on Windows XP Home SP2 SlimServer 6.5.2 on Windows TrackStat 1.36.1 1. Sync your iPod (if you use one) to your iTunes. This updates the last played and ratings (if you set them via your iPod). 2. Copy your "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" files to a new folder. This is so you're modifying a copy of the file and not the original file. In case you make some heinous error, your iTunes library isn't hosed. 3. In the iTunes Music Library.xml file, change the file locations. This is generally simply a matter of replacing a short string of characters at the beginning of each file path. In my case, /Volumes/hostname becomes F:\. 4. Copy the "iTunes Library.itl" and the newly saved "iTunes Music Library.xml" to your Windows machine. For most people, this means C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes. 5. Ensure that the last played songs match that from your Mac. This may require you to close and reopen iTunes (which will likely trigger a re-read of the Music Library). If the last played songs do not match, ensure that the iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml files were copied correctly. Recopy them if necessary. If having synced playlists and play counts are important to you (e.g., for smart playlists), then do not continue until your iTunes on Windows matches that from your Mac. 6. Run TrackStatiTunesUpdateWin.pl to update any play counts and ratings to the Windows iTunes. 7. Copy your iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml back to the folder on your Mac where you made changes to them. 8. Reverse the changes you made in step 3. That is, change the Windows file reference (F:\) back to the Mac file reference (/Volumes/hostname). 9. Copy the files back your your iTunes directory. 10. Rescan your SlimServer playlists. 11. Sync your iPod. Notes: A. If you have a large iTunes library like I do, it can take some time for the "Updating iTunes Library" task to complete when you open iTunes. This is a pain. In my case, it takes about 25 minutes. But it's actually closer to 50 minutes (once for Windows, once for Mac). Sometimes the update happens quickly and without a hitch. I haven't figured out yet what the "trigger" is. B. You might be able to avoid several of these steps if you sync your iPod on Windows. You may even be able to sync your Mac formatted iPod on Windows if you have the MacDrive software installed. I have it, but haven't tried it for this. C. I use a Perl script to accomplish steps 2-4. Here's the script. The most interesting part is the "perl" line. Everything else is just changing directories and copying files around to different places. Copy, modify, and use at your own risk. Code: cd ~/Music/iTunes cp "iTunes Music Library.xml" ~/Documents cp "iTunes Library.itl" ~/Documents cd ~/Documents perl -pi -e 's/Volumes\/orange/F:/g' "iTunes Music Library.xml" cp "iTunes Music Library.xml" /Volumes/orange-2 cp "iTunes Library.itl" /Volumes/orange-2 -- prabbit prabbit's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11142 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34435 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Batch rearrange file structure
I have an 11,000 song library which I ripped into FLAC. Normally Slimserver transcodes WMA files to MP3 or Flac when requested to be played on Softsqueeze but AFAIK Slimserver on Infrant cannot do this transcoding. Also keep in mind that if you're planning on using the optical out, the Transporter will likely sound no better than the SB3. You either have to need the superior analog-out, need the 24/96, or have a certain craving for it that simply must be satisfied. Some recommendations: Current RadioTime Users: * Try not to log in to RadioTime from less secure networks like public wireless access points. * Make sure the password you are using for RadioTime is *not* the same as, nor even similar to, any password you use for any other account you care about. If it is, log in to RadioTime's web site and change your password. * Be aware that anyone can access your list of RadioTime "favorites" and your general location simply by providing your username (they do *not* need your password). Also, anyone can learn the email address you provided to RadioTime. If this concerns you, - Log in to RadioTime and change your location - Log in to RadioTime and change your email address - Log in to RadioTime and delete all your RadioTime favorites - Ask RadioTime to delete your account - Create a new account (see below) New RadioTime Users: * Choose a unique, hard-to-guess username. Your username should look like a hard-to-guess password, e.g. "peterwhktufuyyrt". This will protect your account against the no-password privacy flaws in the RadioTime system. * Choose a password for RadioTime is *not* the same as, nor even similar to, any password you use for any other account you care about. -Peter -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim BlankSaver BottleRocket FuzzyTime SaverSwitcher SleepFade StatusFirst VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34909 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Streaming radio - transporter or squeezebox?
OK, that is what I thought. So, the transporter will do more with my FLAC and Apple-lossless files, but when it comes to the lossy files/streams there is nothing magical happening in the transporter to make them sound like more than they are. Is that correct? I will certainly be listening to more than internet radio, but it is a significant part of the equation. The transporter's versatility is certainly a plus and, for me, the optical input is quite appealing since I have a modest CD player that I imagine would (correct me if I'm wrong) sound better going through the transporter's DAC. As far as looks go - the squeezebox looks great, but the transporter got an "o" from my wife :-) -- kevmacmills kevmacmills's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11384 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34904 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] WTD: Recommendations for speakers and power for SB3 in Kitchen
I have an SB3 sat on top of the kitchen units, cables running through the wall to the server room (which conveniently backs onto the kitchen). I've fitted a pair of APart 8" co-axial speakers into the ceiling which run off a Kenwood KA-3020SE amplifier (which was sitting in the pile of unused kit). Got a similar setup in my bathroom, only here I've built an enclosure for the SB3 to sit in. Same speakers as in the kitchen running off a Technics SU-VX600 amplifier (again left over from a previous system upgrade). Sounds pretty good - ok, not strictly "hi-fi" but far better than the alternative of having a portable "ghetto blaster" type thing sat in the kitchen. -- Squirrel Squirrel's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5785 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34875 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Streaming radio - transporter or squeezebox?
kevmacmills;198679 Wrote: > can/will the transporter do more with a lossy stream to make it sound > better than a squeezebox will? No, but with Transporter it will be much easier to hear exactly how bad a bad stream sounds. :) Seriously though, on the basis of sound quality alone, (and as much as we would like to sell you one!) I think it would be hard to justify a Transporter if you are _only_ going to listen to 128K MP3. The losses incurred from that degree of compression would dwarf the improvement in DAC performance. However there are still plenty of other reasons to prefer a Transporter: form factor, aesthetics, dual displays, knob, front panel controls, RS-232 and IR connections, standalone DAC mode, the backlit remote, etc. And maybe once you hear it, you will want to listen to more FLACs instead of only internet radio! -- seanadams seanadams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34904 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] DSL vs Cable
DSL and Cable are both perfectly capable of providing a good, stable connection for streaming internet radio. That said, there are also horrid examples of each. Your best bet is to talk with people in your local community. Where I live, DSL from the phone company has a pretty dang good reputation while the cable company has the reputation from hell. Re: [slim] Error Correction for iTunes
I've not had any problems with iTunes ripping CDs... it IS possible that your CD-ROM is at fault. The reason the CDs don't skip (usually) in an audio CD player is because of the error correction built into the red-book spec for audio CDs. There is no such error correction for ripping. The way these other programs 'error-correct' is by comparing bit-to-bit between the CD and the ripped file. iTunes does have the capability to rip at a slower speed, which does help. Max does a good job of ripping, and you can use it to rip as Apple Lossless as well as FLAC and others. You could always rip with Max, import them (actually ADD TO LIBRARY) using iTunes and keep using iTunes to edit tags. -- Eric Seaberg Eric Seaberg - San Diego [EMAIL PROTECTED] Eric Seaberg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7896 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34897 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] RAID with XP Pro?
I had considered this aspect. I'm using one of the Promise ATA RAID controllers from Highpoint Technologies in their RocketRaid series. It looks like they're still selling my model, although now that ATA is going away, it may be time for me to move up to a SATA RAID array, for exactly the reasons you outline. I've always been leery of the onboard motherboard RAID for the reasons you described, and also since it would make upgrading the server more of a pain. Certainly, if you can do both, that's great. But backups first, then RAID. BTW something to consider: will your RAID card still be available if it were to die? This happened to me recently - I had a RAID 0 (*cough, cough*) set on an Intel ICH5R southbridge RAID controller. Then the motherboard died. Where can you get a board with an Intel ICH5R RAID controller these days? Nowhere. The new Intel RAID controllers are incompatible with the data structure. The data on the drives was irretrievable. So I'll have to restore from backup. Still haven't fully recovered yet. A true hardware RAID controller, while expensive, will probably be available for quite some time though. -- Mark Lanctot Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34845 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] RAID with XP Pro?
It may not be immediate, but in my case, I was back online within an hour or so, not counting the time it took to purchase and install a new drive (which would be the same for RAID or for a restore). Backing up to my external drive takes many hours (for the first backup -- the subsequent incrementals are faster, of course), and I'm sure the restore would take a comparable amount of time. For me, it's not senseless. The extra cost is not that great (I've been using the same < $100 RAID card for the entire 8 years, and the extra drive was probably around $100), and I've already experienced the benefits. I'm trying to decide if purchasing the transporter makes sense. I tried upgrading from 6.2 to 6.5 on Windows a while ago a ran into this problem, which now appears to be fixed, at least in Windows. Although the kitchen is not the ideal location to listen to music, it is where a good portion of music is heard, and I regret not having set it up like this earlier. -- ds2021 ds2021's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10078 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34875 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Error Correction for iTunes
EAC + FLAC remains my top choice on Windows, and is the top choice of many people on these forums. Max + FLAC on the Mac is pretty good too - I've never had any problems with it. FLAC is a good choice for format. It will play natively on the Squeezebox and Sonos (seeing that you are contemplating taking the plunge on both). I also continue to use iTunes - my FLAC library is served by Firefly server in addition to Slimserver. The FLACs show up as a DAAP/Bonjour share in iTunes (Win & Mac), and are transcoded in real time to wav - so no loss of information. Tags are also preserved. Files can be played locally, or through Airport Express (and I guess through AppleTV as well). You can't burn CDs or create playlists from shared music though. For burning you can use Roxio Toast, and playlists can be created in Firefly. I see this as a stop gap solution. Rumours are that OS 10.5 Leopard will natively support FLAC, and I'm also hoping the XiphQT project will suport native FLAC decoding soon. -- Nikhil Nikhil's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=993 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34897 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] 2nd Squeezebox with AudioEngine Speakers
That's my setup, too, except I have two Squeezeboxes and two sets of Audio Engine speakers. I, too, had the typo issue with the key, but setup and wirless connectivity was a breeze after getting the key correct. (The typo in the key proved to me that my security was at least modestly helpful at keeping those off my network that I didn't want on it.) You need to have a geek in the house to manage the SlimServer software and any plugins, but the remote and Squeezebox are easy for anyone in the house to use. -- prabbit prabbit's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11142 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34899 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I am not too tech savy and thus would love to avoid a new software. However, I am definitely having some problems with errors. I would say that about one of every 50 cds has a problem; the cd itself has never been scratched and plays fine on a cd player. Could it be my cd drive (I have an 04 iMac, the one that looks like half a golfball w/ a screen on top). [slim] 2nd Squeezebox with AudioEngine Speakers
A year ago I ordered my first Squeezebox. I have been nothing but pleased (well ok a few of those upgrades I might have "cussed" a little) Today my second Squeezebox arrived. I ordered a white version. I paired the Squeezebox with a set of AudioEngine Powered Speakers. First, the AudioEngine speakers are phenomenal. Well built. Someone "cared" about the end user experience when these were developed and built. Great sound. Good range. Second, the second Squeezebox took about 10 minutes to install and setup. My first one is wired. I am using this one wireless. The setup was flawless. The only hangup was on the Wep2 key. Of course the hangup wasI need to learn to type :)Once I put in the right key it worked. For less than 600.00 I have a great sounding setup. I couldn't be more pleased. For the record I am using a Dlink DIR635 router, with a dlink switch. I live in the country and the only internet service available is dial-up up or wireless. I use wireless 128K up and 1 mgbit down. Seems to handle all the internet features pretty good. I crab from time to time when things don't work...so I want to say good job Slim Devices when it goes right. Five stars from me, slim devices. Bruce PS. Those who told me that the multiple squeezeboxes would just simply "work" were right. Thanks for the help in getting me past me hesitancy about adding another squeezebox. -- brucegrr brucegrr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3964 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34899 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

-- Mark Lanctot Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34845 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Quoting yooper <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > So, is their a way to allow album art to show full screen using > Fishbone, and making the "player" on the right side go away? I have no idea what would be stopping you from moving the centre divider at any time. The Fishbone skin is designed to allow that. It does not, however, store th e position. If you refresh, it will be back to centred. If you want this to be changed forever, you can edit HTML/Fishbone/index.html: change this: to this: no more player status or playlist frame on a refresh, but you should still retain the ability to move the divider away from the right side if you need to at any time. -kdf ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I use Fishbone, and noticed when playing around with various skins, then going back to Fishbone, I was able to mouse over the middle and drag the album art window all the way to the right. This allows twice as many albums on the screen, which I prefer. The problem is when I shut SS down, and restart, I can't drag it over, making it full screen again. Re: [slim] WTD: Recommendations for speakers and power for SB3 in Kitchen
I have an SB3 in my kitchen, FWIW. But my approach is "budget". It will be very easy to overkill on a project like this--consider that the kitchen is likely to be a room that's acoustically horrible (e.g. tile floors...) even when quiet. And with cooking, dishwasher, microwave, running water and all the things going on that would justify your presence in the kitchen, it's never going to be quiet. So consider two speakers and no sub. Or even merge everything to mono. This is not a listening room--it's a "I'm stuck in the kitchen but I don't want to miss out entirely on what's playing" room. Buy accordingly. In my kitchen (again, a "budget" approach), I have an SB3 mounted out of the way with a 5.1 speaker mount from Radio shack. I've got a power supply there, and that powers both the SB3 and a mono powered speaker (Tivoli iPal). The sound is "good enough" considering all of the inherent environmental problems. What I really wish I had been able to do is run ethernet to the SB3 so I didn't have to rely on wireless. Yes, on the odd occasion I'm listening to music in the kitchen when there's no environmental noise, I do think the sound isn't that great--but that's pretty rare. -- CatBus CatBus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7461 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34875 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I agree that if you can only do one or the other, backups make more sense, assuming the backups do proper versioning. But for me, I do both. I take the backups for peace of mind, but if I have a drive failure, I like being able to be back up and running quickly. I've had one drive failure in my 8 years or so with this RAID setup, and the rapidity with which I was back up and running was well worth it for me. But what if you get a virus? What if you delete something you wish you hadn't? Sorry, too bad, the changes get written to the second drive immediately. RAID 1 will help you in the event of disc failure and nothing else. It is not a backup. You'd be much better advised to use the second disc in an external backup before considering RAID 1. -- Mark Lanctot Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34845 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I did some googling of "routing windows" as you suggested, and found a suggestion that I turn the Windows routing function on via Regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters Select the "IPEnableRouter" entry (by defining as value : 1) I did that, rebooted, and still no change in behavior. Here is a partial dump from Slimserver when I attempt to stream the Radio Paradise 128K MP3 stream to my SB3: 2007-04-30 07:36:22.0972 Found command: - 2007-04-30 07:36:22.0977 Matched Format: mp3 Type: mp3 Command: - 2007-04-30 07:36:22.0985 cracked: http://scfire-ntc0l-1.stream.aol.com/stream/10 48 with [scfire-ntc0l-1.stream.aol.com],[80],[/stream/1048] 2007-04-30 07:36:22.1000 cracked: http://scfire-ntc0l-1.stream.aol.com/stream/10 48 with [scfire-ntc0l-1.stream.aol.com],[80],[/stream/1048] 2007-04-30 07:36:22.1040 00:04:20:06:82:26: Current playmode: play 2007-04-30 07:36:22.2189 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:22.3488 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:22.4790 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:22.6093 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:22.7395 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:22.8698 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:22.0006 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:23.1405 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:23.2702 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:23.4006 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:23.5306 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:23.6608 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:23.7910 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:23.9213 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:24.0514 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:24.1815 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:24.3117 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:24.4420 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:24.5721 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:24.7026 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:24.8325 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:24.9628 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:25.0928 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:25.2231 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:25.3533 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:25.4834 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:25.6136 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:25.7438 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:25.8741 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:26.0048 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:26.1448 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:26.2746 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:26.4167 Buffering... 0 / 49152 2007-04-30 07:36:26.5816 00:04:20:06:82:26: Switching to mode pause from playout -play 2007-04-30 07:36:26.5832 00:04:20:06:82:26 New play mode: pause 2007-04-30 07:36:26.5864 00:04:20:06:82:26: Current playmode: pause 2007-04-30 07:36:32.1106 Error opening current track, so mark it as already play ed 2007-04-30 07:36:32.1118 Backtrace: frame 0: Slim::Player::Source::errorOpening (/PerlApp/Slim/Player/Squeezebox2 .pm line 579) frame 1: Slim::Player::Squeezebox2::failedDirectStream (/PerlApp/Slim/Network ing/Slimproto.pm line 527) frame 2: Slim::Networking::Slimproto::_disco_handler (/PerlApp/Slim/Networkin g/Slimproto.pm line 387) frame 3: Slim::Networking::Slimproto::client_readable (/PerlApp/Slim/Networki ng/Select.pm line 238) frame 4: (eval) (/PerlApp/Slim/Networking/Select.pm line 238) frame 5: Slim::Networking::Select::select (slimserver.pl line 492) frame 6: main::idle (slimserver.pl line 445) frame 7: main::main (slimserver.pl line 58) frame 8: PerlSvc::Interactive (perlsvc.pl line 1486) frame 9: PerlSvc::_interactive (slimserver.pl line 0) frame 10: (eval) (slimserver.pl line 0) 2007-04-30 07:36:32.1196 00:04:20:06:82:26: Switching to mode stop from pause 2007-04-30 07:36:32.1208 00:04:20:06:82:26 New play mode: stop 2007-04-30 07:36:32.1214 Stopping and clearing out old chunks for client 00:04:2 0:06:82:26 2007-04-30 07:36:32.1257 Resetting song queue 2007-04-30 07:36:32.1264 Song queue is now 0 2007-04-30 07:36:32.1278 00:04:20:06:82:26: Current playmode: stop Any suggestions? -Ron -- Ron F. Re: [slim] Slimserver Problems running on Windows Vista
...and worked out that my SB wasn't working because the wife had switched off the socket the Homeplug network widget was plugged into when she was using the hoover. Have solved that one blindingly obvious gaff, I can confirm the I now have SS, SB and Vista all playing quite happily together... BUT To do this I had to turn off User Account Control, which is obviously not idea, although in my home environment I'm not all that bothered. -- hifisteve hifisteve's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4227 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32578 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Can't play WMA after upgrade to 6.5.1
Windows firewall was on, now it's off, same results (restarted softsqueeze and rebooted also). When I get some spare time I'm going to try to move the wma file to a local directory (it's currently on a network share) to eliminate any issues there (although mp3 files on the network drive have no issues). Depending on the results of that little experiment, I'll try the socketwrapper also. I know there are network issues with my computer on occasion, thanks to the now removed McAfee and Cingular's cellular modem driver, so I may just have to move the server back onto a desktop computer to eliminate that issue also. I'll report any results back to this thread just in case anyone else is watching it. -- colin_young colin_young's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6481 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31945 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Here, "chips" come in a bag with flavours (note spelling) like barbecue and salt & vinegar. What the Brits would call crisps. But a converted delivery van that makes and sells fries is known as a chipwagon. bukharin;198521 Wrote: > The most common spelling of all -ise/-ize words in Australia is -ise Same here, probably to make it more French as David suggests. However the French word for visualise is "visualiser", and we don't go so far as to put the "r" on the end. "Faux-French" as he points out. -- Mark Lanctot Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34865 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Slimserver Problems running on Windows Vista

OK, I am running SlimServer reliably with Vista Ultimate 32bit and User Control enabled so I will have a go at helping. You need to go to Windows Control Panel, Firewall. Select "Allow a program through Windows Firewall" on the left hand side. It should ask you to confirm administator access which your user must have to change settings. Confirm OK and select the Exceptions tag at the top. Scroll down the programs list and you should see BOTH slim.exe and slimtray.exe with ticks beside them. If slimtray is missing then choose "Add program". If Slimtray is not in this list then choose "Browse". Browse to "C:\Program Files\Slimserver" and select Slimtray.exe. Select Open and OK in the next box until you return to the exceptions list and make sure that Slimtray is in there and the box is ticked. Select OK and that's all, close the Firewall box. The one program I do have some problems with is Slimtray. I suggest that you do not try to start or stop Slimserver using this application. It appears to work and the little Icon flashes away but it seems to be do nothing tto Slimserver so it is possible that it looks like it is running but isn't. The Web interface from Vista works fine unless you have anything else on your machine occupying port 9000 in which case you will need to reconfigure the Slimserver port. You can start Slimserver from Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Scroll down to Slimserver and make sure that both Slimserver and SlimserverMySQL are set to automatic. If Slimserver is not running then start it from here. You do not need to touch SlimserverMySQL as it will automatically follow. The other major problem I have discovered is if you wish to play ALC files. I cannot get socketwrapper to play ball at all with Vista and there is another thread lower down which will tell you how to substitute mplayer for these files. There does appear to be a Vista network bug particularly if you are using the NVidia chipset. Occaisionally the network port does not configure correctly on startup which will of course stop Slimserver working. I am still looking for a fix for this one and might be getting close. Just make sure your browser works before blaming Slimserver. For anyone having problems copying files across to Vista from another machine, beware. If the file system on the other machine is NTFS then you must be carefull not to copy any user rights along with them. Even if the user name you are using is identical the rights will not match and you will not have access. The user control will be hiding your administrative rights. If this happens then you must manually take ownership of any folders and files that you have copied and then set new rights for your current user. -- MrStan MrStan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1771 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32578 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

You're right, of course - and that's precisely why I deliberately called it "Australian" English! The most common spelling of all -ise/-ize words in Australia is -ise; indeed, the Macquarie Dictionary (the closest Australia has to a definitive reference) lists the main spelling as "visualise", with "visualize" as an alternative.
