I can't see the big difference between Slimserver and the Request (I don't know what this is) product. Both require hardware purchase to get benefit and both have Java GUI to help play the stream. [slim] HA : Can I broadcast a signal to slimserver ?
Hi Guys, I have a slimserver PC and a couple of squeezeboxes with some speakers about my home. I'm also looking at installing a few more with ceiling speakers and bitsA kind of distributed home audio system. I'm also curently playing with a few bits of Home Automation, particularly in respects to my cinema set-up and just hit on the idea of re-using some stuff that i already have - Ie the Squeezebox network. So, is it posible to do a broadcast to the squeezebox, say such as a doorbell message or similar - Ie briefly interupt the curent program, play the message then resume the current program for that box ??? Re: [slim] Scan fails after upgrade to 6.5.2
Further to my imput of yesterday, I tried many times to get Slimserver to re-scan my music, without success. It just stated it was re-scanning the music and it just returned a 000 result. The program failed to recognise the storage area of my music and would not accept a manual imput of data. I ended up totally removing Slimserver 6.5.2. from my machine, I ensured the all traces of the program were gone and I downloaded another version of the program. This cured the program fault immediately. The point of this entry is to say don't ask the program to clear the music library and rescan, because it won't. It will clear the music library, but you will have the sound of silence therafter.. My router is acting up so I can't test it through the SqueezeBox but playing the AAC tunes through softqueeze produces zero static. Good work! [slim] SB3 wireless just isn't happening!
Got my SB3 a few weeks ago, best money I have spent in a long time, however I do have one annoying problem, I just can't get the SB3 to work with wireless. My first installation attempt was wireless slimserver and wireless SB3. The SB3 menu was horrible to use scroll 3 items then freeze for 10 seconds then often blank screen and trying to connect to slimserver, music would play for a reasonable amount of time and then stop working when I tried to scroll through SB3 menu's. So I thought ok maybe 2 wireless jumps is the problem, so I hard wired my slimserver to my vigor 2800 wireless router. I had exactly the same problems with the SB3. I ran some ping tests from my pc to the SB3 and it seemed that every 5-10 seconds the SB3 was unreachable for a few seconds. So next I try hard wired slimserver and hardwired SB3. problem fixed all works correctly so now I have a patch lead running around my room from router to SB3, not exactly what I had in mind. My current setup is wireless slimserver and hardwired SB3 so I know it isn't my router that is causing a problem with the slim communication as my slimserver is wireless. Slimserver version is 6.5.2 and SB3 firmare is 81, i do not use encryption on my wireless network and I have tried the SB3 wireless with mac filtering off with no difference also I have tried switching off all wireless turbo options. The SB3 is only located 10 meters from the wireless access point. I really want to get another SB3 for another room in the house and I really can't hard wire that one :( Any suggestions on what is going on here? [slim] Homeplugs and SlimServer connections
Hello all, Would love to have some expert advice on the following. We have an iMac on the third floor, and want to use our SB3 on the groundfloor. Wireless has been nothing short from disastrous (even with the new n-standard Airport Base Station), given the distance and fact that the entire staircase is aluminium. So an attractive option seemed to be homeplugs (bought four 85MBS Devolo plugs). They work extremely well ... except for connecting to the Slimserver!! Current network setup: 3rd floor: ADSL modem wired through Homeplug; iMac wired through Homeplug (fast and perfect internet connection on the iMac) 2nd floor: Homeplug to use laptop in bedroom ... perfect internet connection ground floor: SB connected to Homeplug and powered Harman Kardon speakers; perfect SqueezeNetwork connection without dropout; BUT no slimserver connection!! Thanks for the reply :) However I do not use anyform of WEP/WPA on my network which seems to be what the linked post refer's to. That's the one I was looking for, glad you found it - and sorry not to notice the bit about the encryption earlier. If it doesn't sort the problem out, there is one other issue you may want to look out for, which is the mac address on the SB getting corrupted. Certainly not a Devolo problem as I have an SB3, Transporter, Security Cameras and two TiVo's connected through them - all working at the same time. The Mac should act as a 'master' DHCP server so you need to check it is there and working (and the Mac is switched on when using the SB3!). My only experience is of PC's but you should be able to get the ipconfig from the Apple and work back from there. Alternatively you could use some LAN software ([EMAIL PROTECTED] works great on a PC, no idea if there is a Mac version) to detect what is going on the network. Re: [slim] Effect of running apps on SlimServer PC
Yes, definitely, but... I think even with a fast dedicated server you may notice odd, unexplained 'brain deaths' from SlimServer from time to time. I have a dedicated machine running SlimServer. Nothing fancy, just my old P4 3.0 desktop system with some extra RAM. Doesn't do much else other than act as a file server (with very little, usually no activity) and I still see some long, unexplained hesitations in both the web and remote interfaces. Places where a page sometimes loads in a fraction of a second, at times will take 5-8 seconds. I've begun using the remote interface a bit more in a bedroom system and see the same, inconsistent response speeds there. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36443 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
