Re: [slim] Songs in same artist & album displayed seperately
Ah, good. Thought it might be the folder thing - even if all your tags are exactly the same, if the files are in different physical locations SS doesn't know they're part of the same album, however moving all of these files into one folder tells SS they are in fact supposed to be treated as one! If you open options in mp3tag (Ctrol+O) then set the options as per the (Hopefully) attached Word doc, that should do it. Then, in theory, whenever you select tags and hit Save, all bar id3v2 tags are removed. If they aren't, then the alternative is to right click the files in question in mp3tag and hit "Remove tags" - provided you've set your options as detailed that should leave you with only id3v2 tags. Again, you can do this operation in bulk, but that's a) brave and b) potentially upsetting without... that's right, a backup! Of course, thinking about it, if you're not using iTunes you could always set your tags to be id3v2.4 UTF-8 (Tags > MPEG > Write) - that way you'll get more flexible tagging options (not least album and artist sort fields that SS can use, for example youi could display Paul McCartney, but SS would sort that as McCartney, Paul) Post back with your results! -- moley6knipe moley6knipe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10014 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39161 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] I don't understand RadioTime. Help please.
My understanding is that at least some of limitations you mention (missing stations) are to do with the way that Radiotime has set itself up to be implemented on the SB. You may need to raise these points with Radiotime itelf. There was a recent thread which may give some background 'here' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32533&highlight=radiotime). That said, there's a lot of work going in the next release of Slimserver (now called SqueezeCenter) on things like Live365 radio to improve things. May also be the case that some of these are sorted them for Radiotime. There is also a community-based "single, well-organised, comprehensive internet radio directory that users can contribute to and which is capable of being fully browsed using the remote control" - it's called WikiRadio. Have a look in the Wiki or on the forums. http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?WikiRadio -- Siduhe Siduhe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=723 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39191 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] I don't understand RadioTime. Help please.
My point is that as a means of browsing internet radio by genre RadioTime on Squeezebox doesn't appear to work. Not that Shoutcast/ Live365 are much better (hopeless navigation, poor quality streams often preferred, annoying adds for Shoutcast/ Live 365, etc). This is an area in which Squeezebox is falling behind competitors - take a look at RadioRoku or the Reciva-based devices for example. What is needed is a single, well-organised, comprehensive internet radio directory that users can contribute to and which is capable of being fully browsed using the remote control. -- sixofone sixofone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11979 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39191 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] I don't understand RadioTime. Help please.
Hi, I'm Bill with RadioTime. When browsing RadioTime on the Squeezebox you'll only see stations with working streams that are compatible with the Squeezebox. Most of the Classical stations you see on RadioTime.com don't stream (why? to find a local FM classical station, and some products have FM tuners). Often the RadioTime information is wrong. If you know of missing stations, use radiotime.com to report the problem. First search for the station, if the station is missing lick "Tell us to fix it" and ask for the station, just leave the website. But chances are good you'll find the station but missing stream(s). If you know of a compatible stream then click the station details, then click 'Tell us to fix it". Their moderators usually have the stream added the same day. If you are a registered user you'll get an email confirmation when the problem is fixed. Or, add the stream yourself. RadioTime also wiki-style features, click the little edit links on program and station detail pages. Moderators verify and approve changes within a few hours. If anyone is interested in becoming a moderator for a particular genre, location, language, team, etc please send a note to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You'll be able to edit any information and with a new site in development, also be recognized. We'll son't have any Acuradio content restrictions, so will scrub their listings to be sure we are current. -- radiobill radiobill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11404 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39191 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Why is SB so expensive?
Suggestion. Are you familiar with softsqueeze, squeezeslave, and stream.mp3 ? The two first are software players specifically designed to work with the slimserver and which can be used for streaming from the server. The latter provides an mp3-stream which can be accessed from any streaming-capable software player through the url http://serverip:9000/stream.mp3. Its VERY flexible. So why not just buy a SB for your most "shiny" setup, e.g. the living room stereo, and then use the other methods to access your music in the kitchen, garden, bedroom, garage etc. Get some old pc's with wireless interfaces, use Linux and you have all you need for creating very cost effective stationary setups around your house. Then use a laptop, the palm, or some of the modern mobile phones, or your favorite choice of handheld device to play music when you are "roaming your mansion", or even roaming the world. Finally the server software is quite powerful. It has many features and many additional features can be added using the plugins. One of the really nice features when streaming is the ability to do server side transcoding. E.g. the ability to use looseless formats on the LAN and transode to lower bitrates when on WAN. Overall I think that slimdevices offers alot. They have chosen to use good quality hardware which comes at a certain cost. Even so, due to the openness of the design and implementation, they certainly do not lock people on tight budgets out. You could even choose not to get the SB at all, but just use the free softsqueeze and slimserver software and get all the features. Personally I'd rather have it this way around, than the company offering crappy hardware and leaving it to third-parties to develop the quality stuff. This turned out a little more comprehensive than I intended. Still I hope it conveys some of the reasons I have for believing that the product is worth the money. [slim] SlimServer on an OLPC
I've been looking at the One Laptop PC (OLPC, laptop.org) as a possible platform for SlimServer. Since it is not yet available, I don't expect any concrete answers to many of my questions, but here goes. OLPC has some attractive features: Low power usage (<15W), runs Fedora 6, WiFi, portable, etc. The one thing it doesn't have is a physical Ethernet port (not surprising, given it's intended application). So my main question is this: If I were to be able to install SlimServer on an OLPC (a big IF), and be able to point it at my network attached storage drive (Linkstation), would the data stream have to pass through the OLPC (meaning lots of wireless traffic in and out of the OLPC, with possible playback issues) or would it be able to essentially pass directly from the NAS to a Squeezebox? Re: [slim] Why is SB so expensive?
I tend to be price sensitive and have never thought of the SB3 as overpriced. In fact, I bought it because it was the least expensive device that fulfilled my minimum requirements for a decent quality wireless streaming device. What I *would* like to see is an inexpensive (< $150) self-contained unit (i.e. boombox) to move around the house, take out on the porch, use in the baby's room, etc. Such a device wouldn't need the pricey near-audiophile capabilities and fluorescent display, so I think they could keep the price down. Another thing to consider about the price. Unlike other similar devices that I've had (the horrible Linksys Media Adapter comes to mind), SlimDevices/Logitech is constantly investing their resources in keeping the software up-to-date. And their server/web-based approach makes for a highly flexible system that, to me, has significant value all by itself. So to me, $299 is a bargain (and I got mine for $250 during one of the last sales!) -- Gildahl Gildahl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4102 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39223 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Then run the following command (from a command window): Code: metaflac --list --block-type=VORBIS_COMMENT Post the output for two different files from different discs but same album. -s. -- slimpy slimpy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1524 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39189 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Slimserver grouping album by disk
I checked a few of these and all have identical album names, different disc numbers, some commercial CDs like this example, some CD-Rs: Also, there is nothing in the data that is stored to have slimserver recognize these as separate discs if it ignored the "Disc #" field. All songs in one directory. In Windows Explorer and in command window, the songs do not have disc numbers attached to their file properties. This includes the properties of the directory files themselves. Hello James: I installed your iTunesUpdate plugin yersterday and apparently everyuthing went ok. However, as of now I do not seen any of the Itunes artwork on the Slimserver in terface. Re: [slim] Unable to play any playlists through Squeezebox/Slimserver 6.5.4
Hey Killick... glad to finally see I'm not the only one... :(I have currently logged this issue with Slim tech support (issue# 070918-004080)... but as of 10/5/2007, they are still working/testing this issue. It sounds to me like this is a global bug that goes across platforms... Same thing, I can create my playlist using the web GUI just fine... but 6.5.4 refuses to acknowledge/play any of my normal playlists... Thanks for posting! :) killick;233282 Wrote: > Slimserver says my playlists are empty, but when I open the .m3u files > with an editor, I can see that they are not. Re: [slim] I don't understand RadioTime. Help please.
I did a random browse of various stations and they all seem to have heart icons indicating they can all be added as favorites. -- mortslim mortslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39191 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
