[slim] SqueezeBox cuts out with Wireless Bridging
Hi Folks, I'm using my SqueezeBox as a wireless bridge for my XBox (original version). Everything works perfectly, except that when I power on the XBox, the SqueezeBox looses its connection the screen goes blank. The wireless connection is still functioning (because the XBox works fine), but I need to remove the power from the SqueezeBox to make it restart and find the connection for itself again. Has anybody else encountered this? I'm currently using the latest daily build of SC7, but have always had this problem with version 6.5 and up. seanadams;262463 Wrote: I am looking at our bridging implementation, and it is designed to forward to all ports in the event of a unicast packet whose MAC is not in its table. It is not clear to me if this is our problem or if something else is going on, so I am hesitant to open a bug without knowing any specifics. It would be helpful to know whether the access point is actually sending the packet out to the wireless lan in the first place. To test that, put a wireless PC on it and run ethereal. I am not sure but I think you can monitor unicast traffic to other hosts that way without any special setup - you probably would need to disable encryption. I was so happy getting the thing to work, that I thought of not doing any further investigations. But, as you seem to be concerned, I took my laptop and started testing. Based on my non-scientific approach, it seems that the access point (ADSL-modem w/ WLAN) is the one to blame! So, I'd say that there is no need dig further on SB3's bridging implementation. As I had windump already installed, I used it on two machines, other being on the LAN and the other on WLAN. On ADSL modem I had two IP addresses with static ARP, the other with the real one and the other with MAC broadcast. Then I changed several times the IP address where the modem should forward the WOL-packet coming from dslreports.com. Not a single packet appeared on the WLAN with the real MAC address, but when I changed the address to the broadcast MAC, they were nicely printed out on the screen of the laptop on WLAN. All packets of course were received by the PC on LAN. I will make a note for the tech guys at ADSL modem manufacturer. [slim] need help, mac, linksys router and ever-changing IP address
Hello, Some time back I bought a logitch squeezebox, and installed the slim server software onto my mac. Great. Its a fun little device, works great except for my wireless internet and router setup. Here is the issue. My wifi router is in one room, the squeezebox is in another. The mac is hard-wired to one of the ethernet ports on the router (which is a Linksys BEFW11S4, FWIW, bought may 2002). I have to set up the squeezebox to find the server at some ip address - the address of the computer it resides on. The problem is that any time that my mac is restarted, etc., and takes a new lease on an IP address, the actual address is subject to change. Sometimes it is 192.168.1.100, sometimes .103, sometimes even .110. I have a number of other computers that go on and off from time to time and use the intermediate IP addresses. So, I was hoping to set static IP addresses to the wired connections on the router, so that if the mac is plugged into connection #1, DHCP will always give it IP address 'N'. But the linksys instructions do not explain if this is possible or doable. So then I try to set up my mac such that it uses DHCP with a manual IP address. I set the IP address outside of the DHCP realm (the router is set to start dhcp addresses at 192.168.1.100), I set it to 192.168.1.50. It works until the computer is restarted, when it takes a different IP address given to it by DHCP. If I set the manual IP address within the realm of what DHCP is set to give out on the router, i.e. above .100, it does the same thing. If I set it up on the computer to totally work manually, and put in ip address, subnet mask and router IP address, nothing ever works, I cant get onto the internet. So right now Im stuck manually finding the current IP address of my mac, turning on my squeezebox, manually re-entering all of the WEP keys, etc. EVERY time I want to use the device. Total pain in the butt. So, how can I set up the mac/router combo such that the mac always has the same IP address, and that nothing changes the networking settings that I have? Re: [slim] SlimServer iTunes plugin...
Hello, Two small points while I have the floor: 1. I read somewhere on the slimdevices site about SS that there was no need under version 6.5.4 to rescan a musicbase managed through iTunes presumably after changes and/or additions. I am using 6.5.5 five SB2+3s and I never came across this possibility? 2. Concerning the new Duet hand-held controller: Am I to understand the I would be able to run my whole installation with this Controller, collectively and individually (each SB separately)? My present setup consists of Winxp SS 6.5.5 SB2s and SB3s using both ethernet and wifi and a (iTunes managed) musicbase of some size. Any clarification and help would be appreciated. Hi, all. Hoping someone can help. I've been connecting to my machine at home running SC 7 and streaming to Winamp at work for weeks without any trouble. Re: [slim] Whole house audio but I need a controller
I'm making quite good progress. I'm using Sqlite for my database engine which is convenient at the moment as I can just pull it straight of the NAS box. Moving and renaming the artwork is more of a problem. I guess that I could write a database export plug-in for SqueezeCenter at some point that takes care of it all? At the moment I've only written a simple album browser although it already has 8 different views and can easily have about 4 different sort orders. And its pretty fast. The menu at the bottom will be kind of dynamic. The space at the top is for the main toolbar (Now Playing, Music Library, Internet Radio, etc.). The space at the bottom is for play controls (Play, Pause, etc.). Clickable items are at least 80x50 pixels so you can just about use a finger instead of a sylus. Kyle;263071 Wrote: WHOA!!! You mean now that I've changed my entire file system, you went and eliminated the need? ;-) *BLUSHING* Uhmm I think so :-) Point is; I managed to create a query in which SC returns all albums including the Various artist albums. I have a few albums on which one performing guest artist makes SC clasiffy the album as Various Artist album. Not feeling entire comfortable to live with that I thought of an 'algoritm' to determine for each Various Artist album if it is really a various artist album. What the script technically does is; Sort the various artist by Artist. The shortest artist name is the Album Artist, If this album artist performs more then half of the song, the Various Artist is changed into the Album Artist. After all various artist albums are processed the actual output is created. So, the big question here is; Does it do the job well? We did a lot of testing and it seems to do it ok but please let me know if this really is the case. The track count is right, but the album count that is displayed after ACC runs is way off. Thx for the feedback. Good tip on addind a space char. Will add it in the next update. The problem with blank pages is related to the ACC printseperator function. Based on a number of criteria (like maximum tracks on a page and maximum albums on a page etc) it determines whether to insert a print page seperator. This is not visible in the browser but only in the print preview (or PDF). In the help screen there are some tips on how to improve the seperation; lessen the page margins will probably do the trick here. Can you test this? Re: [slim] Plugins - how to?
AFAICT the announcement script is not a plugin but a script you run when you want an announcement to appear on an SB display. It uses the CLI interface to put a message on the screen and so you should run this script when the event you want to announce has happened - e.g mail arrived. The Plugin architecture has been improved in SC 7.0 with proper standardised organisation of a plugin package - I think additional functionality to assist the installation plugins was postponed until after 7.0 was released. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42732 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] OSX software update and slimserver
I see that you have posted two separate threads on the same topic. Some of the questions I asked in my reply to your other post are answered here. Do you have a bootable backup? (It's always a good thing to have before a major upgrade). If so, it might be useful to compare permissions for SS and its package contents on the two drives to see if there is a difference, or if there are any visible differences. You could always see if removing slimserver preferences helped, though I would guess not. -- danco danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42776 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

You're doing it correctly by entering a manual address, i.e. 192.168.1.50. Why not set it to 192.168.1.100 and enter the router address (I assume it's 192.168.1.1) and subnet 255.255.255.0. A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42805 Question: Would you buy a Slim Devices/Logitech branded amp? - YES! - NO! After searching for the perfect companion amp for my Squeezeboxes (I have two version 3's) and my soon to be Duet, I've come to wonder if anyone here would be interested in seeing Slim Devices/Logitech release a companion amp for their own product? I mean, all most people seem to want is a medium-to-high powered amp that automagically turns on and off along with the Squeezebox, as well as offer some sort of basic tone control (bass and tone). All multimedia receivers are overkill, and most amps like the T-Amp and the popular ones by Audio Source are either too under-powered (T-Amp) or too big (Audio Source) and none possess basic tone control, making the control over bass and tone in your music a pain (anyone try finding a decent equalizer lately)? All I'm saying is, if Logitech/Slim would design and sell an amp that pushed at least 50 watts RMS per channel (preferably 75-100 watts per channel), had auto on/off, was a compact size and elegant in design like the Squeezeboxes, and just bass/tone control would be a massive bonus. It doesn't need to be audiophile grade, just a decent offering. I'd easily pay $200-$300 for something like that.
