Re: [slim] Problem with itunes playlists
I've just stumbled into what I think is a very similar, if not the same, problem. I have a just built a SlimNAS that I have Squeezecenter 7 running on and all my music files copied over from my wifes PC so we can leave the SlimNAS 'ON' and access all the songs with our Sqeezeboxes. Trouble is the goal was to turn OFF the wifes PC and leave the SlimNAS turned ON, (45w), but we loose access to our Itunes Playlists because they are stored on her PC, which is now turned OFF. We're wanting to use her PC to load songs and create playlists so we'll still be using itunes on it but I hadn't thought I'd loose access to the playlists. Anyone got any ideas about how to make itunes store its playlists on a remote drive/machine/NAS ?? -- njanda njanda's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18731 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49855 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

although I was warned not to fix things that ain't broke, I moved to SC7 for SS6.5.4 because my Ubuntu 6.10 did not support a new printer and had to go for 8.04. Hi Gian, I chose to downgrade to 6.5.4 (actually I'm now on 6.3.1). Slimdevices support offered to issue an RMA so that I return them the device, but I think I'll just wait a few months until either Qnap offer a native install on the ts201 or Slimdevices release a new version that happens to work (sometimes things get fixed unintentionally). Re: [slim] Problem with itunes playlists
This issue has come up quite a few times and I believe the solution which some people use is to make a copy of the active itunes.xml file on the remote NAS or external drive, and point Squeezecenter to that. This is because itunes doesn't appear to support storing playlists on a remote drive. Should give you your playlists back (assuming all the paths are set up correctly). However, the problem with using a copy of the itunes.xml file is that as soon as you change or update something in itunes, you need to make a fresh copy of the file. It's possible to automatically create a copy using something like Robocopy (in Windows). -- Siduhe Who am I on 'LAST.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/siduhe)? -Siduhe Loved Tracks radio got the thumbs up. Re: [slim] MusicIP Rocks!
I've been happily using MusicIp for a few months now but I'm still trying to come to grips with the way the software creates a playlist. I understand that, when using MusicIp with SqueezeCenter, it is the settings within SqueezeCenter that dictates the outcome of the mix. However, whatever song I base the mix on, a different song from the same artist/album is repeated several times within the mix. In many cases, songs from the same artists/albums are repeated within the mix which greatly retricts the variety of the mix. I had understood the MusicIp selects songs that are sonically/acoustically similar to the seed song but, if that were the case, why am I getting songs in mixes by the same artist/album that are sonically/acoustically nothing like the seed song ? -- technojunkie technojunkie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17753 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48270 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Problem: Ethernet appears disconnected.
My SB3 has been working great since I installed it in January. Two nights ago, however, the following appeared on the screen: Problem: Ethernet appears disconnected. Please check your network connection. It has always been setup with the wired connection only (its location does not have good wireless coverage). I have verified the network connection works with my laptop. I have also tried the SB with another cable at a different LAN port (another known working one). I have tried resetting to factory defaults, but I get the same message when I try to go through the network setup. Any suggestions? Re: [slim] Multiple Albums?
I have the same problem as the OP. Albums that were fine a year ago have started separating themselves. This all happened when migrating from SlimServer to SqueezeCenter. I have been slowly trying to put things back together with mixed success. None of the options within SqueezeCenter seem to solve problem, so it seems manual intervention with tags is required. With 1300+ albums, it's a task that will take some time. -- WilCox WilCox's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10508 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49848 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] dropouts with hardwired Duet
I got a Duet about 4 months ago to replace my dying Roku. I have had dropouts and lousy connections for the first 30-60 seconds of any selection (but not after that) since day one. My music is all stored on a ReadyNAS NV+. I am running in hybrid mode -- the Duet is hardwired to the network via Ethernet. When I first started using it, I had to run SqueezeCenter on my desktop, and the problems began. Since then I have upgraded the NAS firmware to the latest version, which allowed me to run SqueezeCenter directly on the NAS. Same problem. I messed with the SqueezeCenter settings -- same problem. Tried using wireless mode -- same problem. RMA'ed my Duet and had it replaced under warranty -- same problem. To be as specific as possible, when starting any song, album, or playlist, the music starts after several seconds, then stops (and the bright white indicator dims), then comes back after 5-20 seconds (and the indicator brightens). This repeats several times, then the rest of the selection plays without problem, unless I fast forward to the next song, in which case it returns for the first minute of playback. Most of my music is AAC format, ripped @ 256 OR 320kbps. On the few tracks I have ripped at lower bitrates, the players seems to work just fine. Internet radio plays without problems, so I suspect it is a either a server-side issue or a buffering problem. The NAS was perfectly capable of streaming at these bitrates to my Roku, so I don't think it is a problem with the Infrant. [slim] Problem with installing Squeezecenter - should be easy...??
Hi Can you help with this situation? History: 1. Have had Squeezebox with SlimServer installed and running under Windows XP, connected via wireless network to a Server box. That has worked fine - apart from the odd hiccup for 6 months. 2. I decided to install the 'latest and greatest' version - Squeezecenter (SC) - and this is where it started to go wrong Symptoms 1. SC does not recognise my Squeezebox.see the following screen SCREEN1.DOC 2. If I then change URL to the following: http://server:9000/ then I get the old Slim Server interface 3. And SlimServer works fine for a while (I can do most things ok) - until I get this screen - SCREEN2.DOC and clicking on OK gives 'Page not found' for the SlimServer player. I can Refresh and it comes back - for a while..then just repeats that problem. --- So - clearly SlimServer (old version) can find the Server - and the music ok. The questions are: 1. Why doesn't Squeezecenter find the Squeezebox? 2. Why does SlimServer reappear? 3. What do I need to do to get this working ok (either the old version of SlimServer or the new Squeezecenter...)? Things I have done: I have installed the latest firmware to the Squeezebox - by holding down the Brightness button. I have rebooted the Squeezebox several times - been through the Set up several times. [slim] Browsing music folder: SB3 doesn't show tracks in some dirs
I've started ripping my CD collection to flac a while ago and have gathered a fair amount of files by now. I have them all neatly organized in folders, so I select my music on the SB via browsing the music folder (and not via tags, as album, artist etc). Much to my dismay, I have noticed, that in many cases the SB doesn't display tracks within a directory. Usually, by pressing the right arrow on the SB remote, I can move down the directory tree and finally end up at the track level. In the cases above, I get stuck at the parent directory level and instead of tracks, the SB displays TITLE: (and then the directory title). I have checked the path length and it is always below 255 characters (so that shouldn't be an issue). What's causing this? How can I fix this? Re: [slim] dropouts with hardwired Duet
There have been a number of different problems with sikialr symptoms when playing AAC. Unlike Roku which can play AAC files natives - AAC files must be transcoded with the SC Server into Flac or MP3 and the Flac/MP3 is then played by the SBR. SO your problem is not the NAS but more likely to be the transcoding process. The problems that can arise from the transcoding vary from the utility errors, server overload or network problems (Flac requires 1500kbps) . First - describe your system OS, SC version, PC type, network etc. Second - do MP3 files play OK ? If they play OK then the problem is not the Duet hardware but most likely transcoding or network related. If MP3 files play OK - can you play Flac files OK ? -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50275 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] dropouts with hardwired Duet
I am ripping using a PC, but the whole point of setting up SqueezeCenter on the NAS is that the connection does not rely on anything but the Duet and the NAS being powered up to work. Ideally when using a NAS you should play formats that are native to SBR - which are MP3, Flac, WMA and OGG. Playing AAC files will only work if the NAS is capable of transcoding AAC files in realtime. I think the NAS CPU may not have enough CPU to decode AAC and then re-encode into Flac/MP3 in realtime. Other Netgear NAS users may comment about AAC files. However, if MP3 files also have the same problem then it look like a network issue. Re: [slim] dropouts with hardwired Duet
I don't think it is a processor power issue, because once the intermittency issue subsides after the first minute or so, it works just fine for a long time -- hours if I have Random Mix going. I have 200 Gigs of music encoded in AAC. It played back fine on the Roku (until the hardware started falling apart). I definitely did NOT understand that the Squeezebox could not play this common format natively when I got it. The reviews I saw all looked like this: blockquoteThe DRM issue notwithstanding, the Squeezebox's file compatibility is otherwise stellar: MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, Apple Lossless, WMA Lossless, and Ogg Vorbis files can all be streamed without issue. In other words, if your music files are free of DRM restrictions, there's a good chance the Squeezebox will play them./blockquote http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-media-receivers/logitech-squeezebox-duet/4505-6739_7-32815168.html I noticed that if I pull the Ethernet cable out while the Duet is playing it takes a long time to empty the cache and lose playback. If I had to guess, I'd say the player is starting playback with less than a full cache, which runs out causing the dropouts. If there was some way to tell it to fill the cache before beginning, all would be well... bpa, your help is greatly appreciated. -- jds jds's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18972 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50275 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] dropouts with hardwired Duet
I don't think it is a processor power issue, because once the intermittency issue subsides after the first minute or so, it works just fine for a long time -- hours if I have Random Mix going. IIRC The ReadyNAS processor is a custom processor which does not not floating point support so decode AAC and re-encode into Flac is going to be hard work for it. But I don't have a ReadyNAS and other user should add their real life experience as to whether it adds any significant delays. Regarding AAC support - unlike a Roku which just gets data from a file server. Squeezebox playback depends on a SqueezeCenter for music and display so whether AAC support is in SC or SBR is irrelevant as you need both an SC and a player (i.e. SBR) to play music. The issue of native formats is really only significant when using Squeezenetwork and AAC is only used in very few streams and so it is not significant in terms of sites that cannot be played. Back to your problem - you should try Server Network Health under Help and see if the Network test and perf monitoring can point to a problem area. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50275 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Sorry. I obviously wasn't paying attention. Re: [slim] Nightly builds - what's 7.2 and 7.3?
Interestingly, the Debian unstable build moved to 7.2 a few weeks ago. I've been running it with no problems. There have been several SB2/3 firmware updates (today I got 107) and I'm not sure what the features are, but it seems to work very well. -- mrfantasy --Mike mrfantasy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1127 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50232 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Network Help- Duet
My Linksys router has performed well with the Controller, my 2 Receivers, and SC (which sits on my NAS) for the first month or so. Sometime over the past 3 or 4 days I began having response time problems with the controller or connecting to SC on my computer. The music streams fine, but moving to the next track in a playlist or pausing, for example, takes about 15 seconds using either the controller or SC. And tonight, I'm having major problems. Can't connect to my NAS, music is cutting off and the light on my bedroom receiver is turning blue. -- jh901 FLAC -- ReadyNAS/SqueezeCenter Living Room: SB Rcvr | Creek 6060 Integrated Amp | Totem Model 1 Bedroom: SB Rcvr | HR Desktop Amp | AKG K701 cans | Audioengine2 jh901's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18175 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50285 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Problem: Ethernet appears disconnected.
Reset your SB.i.e. Disconnect the power cord. Hold down the Add/+ button on the remote while you plug the power back in. This should get you back to the factory setup screen. Go through the setup. Be sure you select Ethernet/wired connection. Re: [slim] Embarassing Audition
HAHAHAAA I also have to talk to the Cxo's from time to time and have gone with the phantom demo trick before. Too funny. When I say audition, I really meant to speak in audio-dork speak. It was over at my bosses place, he has silly gear (his speakers cost more than my first car) not that my system is anything to sneeze at his makes mine look like a bookshelf system from costco. It was frustrating to finally get my duet, play with it for a few dyas and then be able to reproduce it over at his listening room. Even more frustrating that when I brought it back to my place, I plugged it in let it connect and eveything worked great... I didn't feel too stupid. Well, that was Friday. Saturday is here and I am hosed again. Here's what I know... I can get to Rhapsody, I can search, I can see playlists, I can see channels... When I try to play anything off of Rhapsody... no dice. It just sits there, actually says its getting the track info, and then it just sits there. I have tried everything including Factory Reset, switiching music sources, trying my neighbors wireless network UGH! I have had my duet for about three weeks and when it's working its the best thing since sliced bread, and now I am addicted to it, and I'm too lazy to get off my ass to change CD's. It looks from reading further on the forums tonight that there is some sort of problem with Rhapsody and SB, hope it gets solved soon as it is making me grumpy. -- danniboi danniboi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18919 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50175 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] MusicIP 7.1 automatic re-scans
I have been testing MIP with about 2000 tracks to see if it made sense to use with my very large library. I've been very happy with its functionality but when I tried to add a few more CDs I got similar results to those of tfish. Even though I could mix these newer tracks with MIP's own GUI and they showed up in Spicefly's web Gui, I can't get them to mix in SC. In my case, MIP appears to stop the rescan completely after 70 to 80 tracks. When I finally tried a complete SC rescan, I get the following results. Note that it stops everything such that I now have no access to my artwork as the rescan stops before it even gets to the artwork rescan. I have now tried this several times and get consistent results each time. Can someone please give me some direction? My experience of the MiP GUI with large volumes of tracks is that it isn't particularly stable, irrespective of platform. Whilst I'm not aware of any issues archiving tags with the current releases of MiP, I recommend you break your library down into more manageable chunks for the archiving operations - see the wiki entry for an example of how you can break it down. If you've currently got one .m3lib file covering the whole shooting match and it was generated in MiP GUI under Windows, make as many copies of it as you create sub-folders to move parts of your library to, then move a copy of the .m3lib into the root folder of the portion of the library you want to work on and have MiP GUI refresh songs using that m3lib (ie double click on the .m3lib file and select refresh from within MiP GUI. it'll eliminate the tracks it doesn't find from that copy of the m3lib. Once that'd done archive the analysis. There are no RG compatibility issues. As a parting comment, whether or not you choose to archive the tags, you should have a backup of your library. -- egd Internet forums: conclusive proof depth of gene pool is indeed variable, monkeys can be taught to cut code, and world peace is utterly unrealistic...
