I have an HDX on order and I intend to pretty much run the same setup
as you once it arrives. Satellite set-top box, SB3 and HDX (plus a
BluRay player).

Do you have an internal HDD or do you stream from a home server (which
I presume runs SqueezeCenter as well)? Also, what software do you run on
that server for your HDX, or do you just have a network share?

I have been playing around with YAMJ which is looking pretty good.

I think RT David doesn't realise that you are in the UK.

AlienBBC fetches URLs direct from web site so they are "dynamic" and up
to date. This might affect the 2nd RTSP URL I suggested but not your
general problem.

The opening of WMA stream to non-UK users should not alter the fact
that you are in the UK and WMA streams do not work - not even from your
PC.

I forgot to ask earlier - have you ever got BBC radio playing through
your SB ? or is this a new installation ?

Re: [slim] BBC Completely Unavailable

2009-06-16 Thread KMorgan

bpa

Up until I got back home on Fri after a few days away all was working
perfectly. I could get BBC Radio2 through Local, or iPlayer. I had
absolutely no issues with live streams or listen-again. Now I get
nothing from the main BBC stations either through SC or SN.

The odd thing is that using Internet Radio> Local I can get other
streams to play. Some of these are WMA, some are RTSP (is that right?).
What I really don't understand is why I can't get radio streams from
the BBC via the iPlayer web site either. It gets stuck on "Connecting
to Media".

There is obviously something up external to my setup at home. Don't
know if this is ISP or BBC. What really surprises me is that I seem to
be alone. I was expecting some comfort from others with the same
problem.

Ah well GTG, I'll check in again tomorrow.

[slim] Podcast plays but no sound

2009-06-16 Thread allanweinman

I realize that I originally posted this in the wrong forum. I tried to
move it, but could not, sorry for the repost, but it belongs here.
---
No sound and sometimes cycles back to 0. I am using 7.3.3. But I also
had the problem on 7.3.2. I have 7.3.3 on one computer and 7.3.2 on
another. Both have no sound.

All other internet music sources work. And sometimes the default
podcasts work. ODEO does. Some Podcasts Alleys work, but some do not.
But any podcasts I add do not play any sound.

For example this :
http://www.npr.org/podcasts.opml
and
http://www.cbc.ca/podcasting/podcasts.opml
and
http://podcasts.engadget.com/rss.xml

gives me all the menus, titles, etc of all the podcasts it offers. It
then loads it and starts to play. And even counts down the time. But
there is no sound.

They worked a couple of months back on 7.3.2 when I used it then. (I
know they worked, just not sure what squeezeserver version I was on).

I also tried to use mediafly. I had to modify them a little:

http://www.cbc.ca/podcasting/includes/hourlynews.xml
and
http://podcasts.engadget.com/rss.xml

NPR was already there.

BUT again I have no sound.

Thanks for any assistance.

It didn't add any other benefit than the simplified installation, at the

Re: [slim] No play

2009-06-16 Thread aubuti

That sounds like it narrows it down to the wireless. But it does seem to
contradict your statement that -"I've reset the SB3 to factory settings
and went through inputting all the numbers needed to connect to my PC.
No problem doing that but as I said when I hit play nothing happens."-.
If the wifi is bad then you would have a hard time connecting it to your
network.

Before sending it off, there are two things you might want to consider
taking a look at. First, when the SB3 is not connected by cable, does it
show up as connecting to your network? You can check your router's admin
pages, or look in SC's Settings > Information tab to see active players.
Or you could get information from the SB3 (under Settings >
Information). If it is the SB3's wifi that is bad then it shouldn't show
up in any of these places.

Second, the wifi cards in SB3s have been known to come loose sometimes.
Re-seating the card is supposedly easy (at least for those who aren't
afraid to open the SB3 *and* have the requisite Torx screwdriver). If
you don't want to be without your SB3, or if it is out of warranty and
you don't want to pay for the repair, you can consider trying to re-seat
the wifi card yourself. But do the first step first to confirm that it
really is the wifi.

Re: [slim] Experiences with HDX1000 NMT unit?

2009-06-16 Thread radish

Just to throw in an alternative option: we have Tivo Series 3/HD units
on the main TVs in the house and with the addition of the pyTivo server
running on the media server (also running SC) they do an excellent job
of playing back video. The server works in a similar way to SC,
transcoding the video to a format the Tivo likes, and the content is
buffered on the local hard drive. Seeing as we already had the Tivos
(and wouldn't want to live without them!) it was a nice free addon. It's
worth noting that most games consoles these days also do video streaming
(e.g. 360 & PS3 both will do so out of the box).

I like the idea of the streamers like the NMT, but in reality I find
there's usually at least one box already hooked up which will do
streaming as an additional feature, so it's hard to justify the
additional cost.

The regions are:

wireless_region_id: 4 - US, 6 - CA, 7 - AU, 13 - FR, 14 - EU, 16 - JP,

You can find all this information by running the udap_shell.pl script

[slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95

2009-06-16 Thread Locuth

Hello everybody

SlimControl is a software remote control for Squeezeboxes.
It runs on PDAs and smartphones under WM 2003, 5.0, 6.0 and 6.1.

After several months of steady improvement, version 0.95 is available
for download.
Thanks so much to all of you contributing.

I am opening this thread as a successor to
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62486
which has grown too long indeed. Please post any bugs, suggestions, or
critics here.

The attached screenshots were taken from version 0.94
but they pretty much give you an idea of the user interface.

A manual is available, however it has not yet been updated to reflect
version 0.95.

Of the vast list of features offered by SqueezeCenter, I am currently
supporting the following:
- Browse by genre, album, artist
- Browse radio plugins, playlists, favorites
- Display and edit the current playlist
- Control multiple players (no synchronization yet)
- Album covers

Requirements:
- Arm (v4) or PXA processor
- 32 MB or higher
- Windows Mobile 2003 - 6.1
- Network connectivity
- Screen resolutions
240x320 (native)
480x640 (scaled up, poorer quality)
other A/R (screen not filled)

SlimControl was developed on a Pocket Loox 600 (WM 2003) from the last
millenium.
It is not a skin. It is an WM application.

[slim] SBR directly to amp - why not?

2009-06-16 Thread 86atc250r

I've read a couple times people on the forum recommend against hooking

What is the reasoning behind this? It seems counter intuitive to me.

I ask because I am getting ready to buy an amp to hook up to my SBR -
and I'm having trouble identifying a reason to complicate the system
with a seemingly unnecessary preamp.

The first reason that comes to my mind would be that you could destroy
your speakers and amp if the player acidentally became set to max
volume. A software bug could cause this as well.

The real answer is more subtle.
Its fine to connect a SB3/SBR/Transporter directly to the amp or powered
speakers as long as you know its safe.

It is not OK to rely upon the SlimDevices volume control to protect your
amp and speakers, there could be bugs that cause it to feed wide open
signal to your amp. This could fry your speakers or amp or other bad things.

Its easy to test, do the connection, and start with the volume low. If
you can crank up the volume to where its just a tad louder than you ever
want to listen, be happy.

If the signal gets too loud before you get the volume wide open, then
you need some attenuators to make it safe. Search the audiophile section
for lots of discussion, parts, vendors, etc.

[slim] Squeezebox receiver + NAS + iPhone

2009-06-16 Thread melomania

Hi

I'm new to this forum.
I would like to buy a Squeezebox, but I'm not sure about the setup to
use.

I want to stream audio from a NAS unit to my amplifier in the living
room and control it (select the music to play etc) by my iPhone.
So I do not want to use the remote control from logitech.

Can I just buy a Squeezebox Receiver and NAS storage, connect them, and
control this with for instance using the iPeng application on the
iPhone?
I really would like that!!

If doing that, can I switch the Squeezebox on and off with the iPhone

Also...

Your only control over volume is through the SB3, Receiver, Transporter
- and it's a digital volume control. The more you reduce volume, the
more digital data is lost - sound quality will be is lost at the same
time. Some people can hear the difference, others can't.

As 'pfarrell' says "Search the audiophile section for lots of
discussion, parts, vendors, etc.". Sean Adams, one of the Slimdevices
founders, talks about it on the forums.

2009-06-16 Thread 86atc250r

Thanks guys, I'll check out the audiophile section.

A pre-amp would be undesirable, but if I could install a simple
attenuator that would prevent destruction in the seemingly unlikely
event of a full signal blast, that works for me.

Digital volume -- I thought this was only an issue with the digital
outs & running to an external DAC, not the analogs.

FWIW, I'm not looking for the most pristine audio available in this
application, just reasonable quality running to feed to my reasonable
quality gear in a rec room.

Yes you can do it. However, most would recommend purchasing a
squeezebox classic, since you get a screen, a remote (handy for setup
for one thing, or if you misplace your iPhone for another!), and their
wifi and general performance has been favourable. Particularly for
starting out.

I have not used NAS for Squeezebox Server, but I do understand it
entirely depends on your NAS. What are you using? Many have opted for
low-power 'proper' PCs for this application, leaving NAS for, well, 'S'
- storage.

melomania;432494 Wrote:

Yes you can sleep/wake and turn off/on using iPeng. Wake on Lan again
depends on the configuration of your NAS and *most* require a wired
server adn compatible router for that role. I have found iPeng handles
WOL beautifully with my server, which is wired to the wireless router,
which then serve my SBs.

Best of luck. Post the specifics of your NAS and the NAS pros will take
over from here.

Right, especially because perhaps 90% or more of the population

to have specs available, because they are very important to some, but
not on the leading pages.

I may be wrong, but I don't think any non-technical person would ever
be sold to buy a music product because it gives you weather conditions.
While perhaps of interest and a novelty for owners to play with, I can't
see this as a selling feature that pushes someone over the edge.

I agree, because again, most potential buyers don't know or care what
this means. It's a distraction that makes the product sound too
technical, definitely not the right direction to go.

[slim] Best Router for 3rd party Software

2009-06-16 Thread sfraser

Hey guy's, This might not be the best forum, but I figured I would get
some good insight from the more network savvy members. I am looking for
suggestions on what would be the best home network router to purchase,
and who develops the best 3rd party software for the above router? My
neighbor and I have a GE network link buried between our houses, I want
to place a router between the networks.

With OEM S/W most "home" routers only have 2 routed interfaces, and
the WAN routed interface will usually only support one ARP entry. Good
3rd party software will allow you to support multiple routed interfaces,
eliminating the above WAN interface shortcomings, or alternatively
allow for multiple L3 interfaces on the LAN switch portion of the unit.

I also require a sustained throughput of 50mbps for HD video and
support for static routes.

We currently have my neighbor's Ubuntu box with 2 NIC's acting as as
router, between the two networks, but this is causing me havoc because
he is running his SC on the above box, which is causing my controller to
flip out. Apparently his SC is a newer version, which prompts my
controller to try and upgrade. Alternatively, does anyone know how to
limit SC to communicate out a single NIC on Ubuntu?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Re: [slim] Experiences with HDX1000 NMT unit?

2009-06-16 Thread Pale Blue Ego

I've had the HDX-1000 for a few months and I agree with the consensus
that the interface is nothing special, but it does what it says, plays
pretty much anything you throw at it. It is wonderful for playing back
hi-def video projects and home movies and I also have my DVD collection
ripped to XviD files for simple and easy playback. 220 movies takes up
only 315 GB.

I also love how nice my photos look on an HDTV through the HDX. The
memory card slot is a great feature, too. It reads my 16GB SD cards
with no problems. And I really like the physical design of the HDX.
For less than $300 it's an impressive-looking little box. With no hard
drive installed, it runs cool and quiet. But I also like the idea I can
throw a 1TB drive in there, and take all my media with me.

I have messed around a little with running some of the other http
interfaces for the HDX on my linux server. As these mature I'll
probably get more serious about adopting one. The HDX is nifty hardware
for the money, but the firmware and 3rd-party software are still
catching up. In that way it's a lot like the Squeezebox. You get cool
hardware with a constant stream of new feature and enhancements. Well
worth the money for what you get, I fear this type of device will be a
thorn in the side of music-only streamers like the SB.

I've had that amp driving my kitchen/dining area system for about 18
months and it works great. The auto-sensing input is a very nice bonus.
It's powering 2 pairs of Polk RC60i in-ceiling speakers comfortably. I
have my SBR connected directly to it, although after reading some of the
same posts you have I've thought about getting attenuators. I checked
the stated input and output specs and the SBR's stated max output does
exceed the amp's stated max input by a little bit. But then I've also
read not to bother with the calculations and just test by ear (pretty
much like Pat's test) and it seems okay to me.

I've written a little Plugin which keeps the Server running if
Squeezebox Server is playing. Its based on the Prevent Standby Plugin.

You can find it here: Announce: LightsOut 0.1 - a Plugin

Thanks for the info.

I would tend to think that as long as the "volume" control on the amp

well in the case of a catastrophic volume event.

Re: [slim] SBR directly to amp - why not?

2009-06-16 Thread tcutting

I am using this amp as well. I have an SB3 connected directly, and it
works very well. I like it because it provides a very minimal
configuration, and in my application I have a second set of speakers on
an outdoor patio and I can use either or both sets of speakers. The
auto-sensing works well for me too - I just control my SB3 either with
the IR remote or my Controller, and it does everything I want. I don't
think it can provide enough power to damage my speakers even if
everything is "max-ed out", and usually the volume control on the amp
isn't at max anyway. There are times when I think I might want more
power, but even with replay gain active, I've never really needed any
more volume.

Re: [slim] Experiences with HDX1000 NMT unit?

2009-06-16 Thread lostboy

I'm using the Popcorn A110 NMT with GBPVR. GBPVR runs on my WHS, as
does Squeezecenter, and records TV onto the central server, also stores
DVD iso's, Blu ray rips, etc. The Popcorn hour behaves exactly like a PC
based client for GBPVR and plays everything I've thrown at it except a
couple of really badly formatted Xvid files, which were fine once I
remuxed them.

For me the combination of GBPVR and NMT provides the same sort of
flexible client/server behaviour for video that I enjoy with my
squeezeboxen (1xboom, 1xSBC, 3xSB2, 2xSB1 at last count). My second NMT
is on order now. Complexity of setup is about the same as getting a
decent Squeeze install up and running with a few plugins, etc., (i.e.
some prior knowledge required).

The current generation of NMT units will not fully decode DTS audio,
but some (Popcorn, HDX and eGreat currently) have licensed capability to
downmix.

That's what I want for this setup as well - a minimal configuration that
can easily be used by anyone in the house or possibly even visitors.

The AB switch may also be a nice feature in our config too because I
could send power to speakers in another nearby room.

I have two pair of these:

I'm thinking that amp will do a decent job of feeding them - and if
not, we're not out much.

pFsense http://www.pfsense.com/ is a great Linux based firewall/router.
Get an old PC and put three network interface cards in it. pFsense is a
self installing iso image you can install it on a hard disk or a flash
drive for a "less moving parts" system.

Connect your internet to one port and you and your neighbor can each
take another port each. That way you have complete network isolation.

pFsense will act as your firewall, DHCP server, caching DNS server, etc
and it has a great web interface to configure it all.

+1 for pfSense.

pf is built on top of m0n0wall, so if you don't need the advanced
features pf offers, you can get by on a more slim installation of
m0n0wall.

I've been using both for a few years now, my m0n0wall box is rock solid
- I have had to boot one of my pf boxes once or twice (over the last two
or three years), but that may be the hardware it's on and not
necessarily pf itself.

As mentioned above you can run either on very light hardware - two of
mine run on CF drives as well (the other is a VM). You can also scour
eBay for Intel dual nic cards out of old servers on the cheap (unless
you need GbE).

[slim] Problems with player pausing.

2009-06-16 Thread lemmy999

I have had a V3 Squeezebox for 2.5 years and a Boom for 0.5 year. Both
are hooked up wireless and my network is using WPA and I originally had
a US Robotics router and now a Linksys WRT54 running dd-wrt firmware. I
have always had problems with the music playing fine and then just
stopping...sometimes in the middle of the song, sometimes at the end. I
can navigate around the menus just fine. The only way to get it to play
again is to advance to the next song or go back to the beginning of the
song (<< or >> buttons) If I fast forward or rewind a small amount it
will start playing again as well. But if I just hit the pause/play
button it won't start playing. Also, the display doesn't say "paused"
or anything like that. It is frozen. The time bar will just stop where
it is. The signal strength is near 60% and on the squeezebox it was in
the same room as the router and had >90% signal strength and I still had
the problem. I even ran an unsecured network for a while and it still
did it. Usually it isn't that bad but today the Boom did it 3 times on
3 songs in a row. It has done this from Slimserver 6.3 up to more
recent SqueezeCenter builds. Is there anything I can do to fix this
problem? Thanks.

You're not reading correctly the wiki table: the Duet will not use IR
to wake-up. But it will send wol packets when you press buttons on the
Controller, or the "fan" button on the Receiver.

I have a Duet, I assure you I remember the day this started working :)

(And, I agree with you: for me 2 quick presses to "right" or "power"
are very easy when I want to wake the server. And *sometimes* I like to
start the SB3 -or Boom-, left it fail to connect and then press 'left'
to configure locally connection to SN, all without waking the server.)

Because LightsOut Add-In simply shuts down the server if no clients
(windows computers with WHS connector installed) are active.

I modified the Prevent Standby plugin to signal LightsOut that somebody
is still doing something on the server by disabeling it with a registry
key it checks before performing shutdown/standby/hibernate. I even
believe the Prevent Standby Plugin is not needed on WHS because it
doesn't automatically shut down after two minutes since its based on
SBS2003 and not XP.

Just a word of clarification regarding use of the Receiver on its own
without buying the Controller. Officially you are not able to set up
the Receiver without use of the Controller. There is a work around,
documented somewhere on this forum, which has had several reports of
success but it remains an unofficial means of setting up and as such the
purchaser should do their homework first and be comfortable with this as
an approach.

Otherwise, as already mentioned, go for the SB Classic.

[slim] Invisible software player for PC - a simple HOWTO using squeezeslave and hstart

2009-06-16 Thread mowa

Hello,

I've tried getting a Squeeze software player run without being visible
- here is my guide:

Requirements:

SqueezeCenter running on a server with static IP address
A PC
A sound card (perhaps not necessary, but it definately improves the
functionality)
A little bit of free RAM (Squeezeslave is a tiny program - no worries)

Download:

Hidden Start from http://www.ntwind.com/software/utilities/hstart.html
Squeezeslave from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=105169&package_id=176494

Unpack all files into the same directory.

Create a shortcut to hstart.exe. Edit properties of the shortcut. Add
the following to whatever is in "destination" - including quotes:
/NO CONSOLE "squeezeslave.exe "

Mine looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\Diverse\squeezeslave\hstart.exe" /NOCONSOLE
"squeezeslave.exe 192.168.2.150"

Test it - check your task manager to see if squeezeplay.exe is running
(or use Squeeze Center). If it works, it might be a good idea to drag it
to the start folder in the start menu to make it run automagically at
startup.

I have no idea what formats the squeezeslave supports, but at least it
plays FLAC and MP3 fine, that's good enough for me, it's all I've got.
Bonus is there are no hiccups or strange behaviour as (I have) in
Softsqueeze and Squeezeplay :)

It can be controlled through web interface or duet controller or
whatever you use.

If you, for some reason, need to restart it, you'll have to kill the
process from the task manager...

There might be smarter ways to do this, but in that case I don't know
them.

Yep. As Davep said: You will NOT be able to set up your receiver with

Re: [slim] Squeezebox receiver + NAS + iPhone

2009-06-16 Thread shake-the-disease

I'd recommend a Classic rather than a receiver for the reason of having
a screen, having an IR remote as a fallback, better wireless
performance, and it's offically supported set up.

I'd also recommend an Atom x86 based NAS (such as a QNAP TS-239) for 2
reasons. 1) It has the performance to handle SC whereas others don't 2)
x86 based NAS gives you the option of running MusicIP which is a
fantastic addition to Squeezecenter

If you find the QNAP TS-239 to expensive for your taste, I'd recommend
a Vortexbox or build your own Atom based server.

Good luck :)

Well the darn thing is working now. While it was at Rob's I deleted the
squeeze center program. I installed the newest version and lo and Behold
IT WORKS!!!
Does seem very strange to me that it was okay one day and the next it
wouldn't work.

Se La Vie!!!

God!!! I sure miss the days of plug it in and play.

This PC audio is way,way over my head. When the good lord past out
brains I was almost the last one in line!

Cheers

I agree with Iphone. That said the real thing is to just try it and
see if you like the results. A lot depends on your wireless connection
and the distances involved. What might work for me, might not for you.
Wireless is weird like that. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

And I guessed wrong. The new design is up, the Partner links work, and
Add-Ons does not highlight plugins, but rather the traditional business
partner stuff. The Downloads directory link on the Developer resources
page still 404s, though the "software" link to the wiki's plugins page
works. The bottom nav "Download SqueezeCenter" link works, but that page
says nothing about 3rd-party plugins. And there appears to be a
UTF-8/character-encoding glitch in the text; check the "Open
protocol..." bullet point.

The "Downloads" section of the "Developer Resources" page is a real
ghetto for 3rd party plugins; the vast majority of the people who use my
plugins don't seem to be developers, so why in the world would they look
at a Developer Resources page? Are you trying to downplay plugins
because you're pushing the Duet and the wiki page says that most current
plugins "are not (yet) compatible with Squeezebox Controller"?

goodsounds -- I don't know what your situation is, but in my house, the
fact that the Squeezeboxes all display weather information has made it
much easier to get my wife's acceptance of putting a player in every
room. It's easy for me to imagine that plugins like SuperDateTime,
Lyrics, and Biography could help sell more Squeezeboxes. "Honey, it's
not just a music player, it can also do..." Etc. At times I've ribbed
Slim Devices for following Apple too closely, but have you not seen the
latest round of iPhone ads? They're ENTIRELY based on the premise that
the iPhone is a platform that can do all kinds of cool, fun things that
make your life better. Logitech could make a very similar case for
Squeezebox -- and its closest competitors can't. For once, Slim Devices
is running the opposite direction of Apple. They've buried information
about the cool capabilities, and seem to rely mostly on sexy models
drinking alcohol to sell their gear. Sad, really.

Re: [slim] Experiences with HDX1000 NMT unit?

2009-06-16 Thread Pale Blue Ego

You can scarcely go wrong for the price, and the interface will
certainly improve. As I recall, the web interface back in the early
Squeezebox days was pretty basic, too - but that didn't stop me from
enjoying the music. The HDX is quite useful out of the box and also fun
to tinker with.

The HDX also works great with raw HD transport streams from a PC
capture card. I can record a TV show or sporting event on my PC, than
watch it on the HDX with zero loss of quality - every pixel the same as
the original transmission. Awesome.

The wiki doesn't really have a good page to link to, the plugin list on
the wiki is very outdated and Logitech no longer wants people to install
plugins manually, they like them to be installed through Extension
Downloader.

I would personally prefer an automatically generated page based on the
plugin repository information linked from this wiki page:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezeCenter_Repositories

It's pretty clear to me that Logitech seems to have chosen to not
promote third party plugins. They might just have missed it but it feels
strange to miss the third party plugins concept, so I suspect it was an
intentional decision to make them harder to find. Hopefully the reason
is that they intends to make them more visible through Extension
Downloader.

Even though there are some third party plugins that isn't music related
I think most are related to music and enhances the system as a music
player. It does feel a bit strange to completely ignore to describe this
advantage compared to other competing music players/systems.

I suppose the plan is to change these to the new menu structure and

Both. It's so prominent it invites confusion about what exactly is
being marketed there. Then you also have the prominent "Deezer" and
"Slacker" logos - more confusion.

As for Aerosmith, they were a so-so band back in the 70s but MTV &
Wayne's World have allowed them to stay around for a few decades too
many. Or maybe I'm still mad at them for playing until 3 AM at 115dB at
Woodstock94 when half a million people were trying to sleep, me being
one of them.

Re: [slim] Relaunching the public website as www.logitechsqueezebox.com

2009-06-16 Thread Goodsounds

peterw,
Maybe it's just different perspectives at work here. The favorite
display in our house, on just 2 SB classics, is the time. A weather
report in every room would hardly seem to be necessary, but I guess not
to you.

I think your criticism of the new site's photos is a bit harsh. I don't
find it offensive, and I don't think you should either. The women are
dressed modestly, and only one photo has identifiable beverages owing to
the wine glasses. And so what about that, many people drink wine or
something else in social gatherings.

And I think we can agree to disagree on the add-ons. To me these are
just not high value add factors as parts of the whole system. I'm sure I
don't use most of the available features, yet find I can accomplish what
I want. I know people share your view as do others share mine. If the
company is de-emphasizing their prominence on the site as you and Erland
suggest, perhaps their market research or market objectives suggest that
greater numbers share my view than yours? Who knows. In any event, I
think they've been overemphasized in a the past, maybe it's time to try
something else.

Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95

2009-06-16 Thread nik8

Hi Locuth,

Very nice app, well done for getting it this far! I've found a use for
an old HTC Prophet - shame the battery is a bit dodgy ;)

Anyway, is there a known issue/feature with the way the app handles
updates to the existing now playing list? While I was using it
yesterday, I noticed that everytime a track was played the reported
number of tracks in the playlist reduced by 1 (see below). I haven't
done much investigation but I will.

The actual number of tracks according to web ui and wand (SB3) remained
constant but SlimControl reported less. If I removed all the tracks from
the playlist using SlimControl, then closed the playlist and re-opened
it, it reported the old (previously played) tracks. It's like it was
reporting a 'window' of tracks, not the total list?

Hope that makes sense ;) I'll have a more scientific play today and let
you know. I know I did stuff like

. start with an empty now playing list
. add an album and start playing
. add a track or two from another album as next to play
. add a playlist (as either next up or at end)

I basically played with the playlist add/insert/append features.

thanks

N

Here are two other ways (Windows).

Copy this to Notepad and save as squeezeslave.vbs

Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.Run chr(34) & "squeezeslave.cmd" & Chr(34), 0
Set WshShell = Nothing

Copy this to Notepad and save as squeezeslave.cmd

squeezeslave.exe -esqueezeplay -retry -m01:01:01:01:01:01 server_ip

Put all files in the same directory.
Make a shortcut to squeezeslave.vbs. Done.

Or install Moose, in Preferences point to squeezeslave and start Moose
with /squeezeslave.
