Did you do a fresh installation of latest MusicIP or did you just upgrade/reinstall on top of an old version ? Maybe you have some old license key somewhere which you just need to delete ? it seems that without the license the server will not recognize the mmm.ini file, which redirect the cache location. I can live without this but it would be a nice feature. Re: [slim] How to Stream over Internet to Motorola Droid
One really great way to provide safe forwarding is to use connectbot to open an ssh connection through your router to your server and port forward 9000 to the Droid. This would be safe encrypted way of doing this. Unfortunately setting up SSH server on WHS is probably not all that fun. I think there's some info on the wiki about doing that. -- SuperQ SuperQ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2139 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71590 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Why do you need the license key? All the functionality for Squeezebox Server integration is available in the free mode. Re: [slim] Logitech - please work with Pandora for 192kbps streaming!
There's plenty of discussion of this on the web by very informed folks (in this forum and other places), so I don't want to turn this thread into a repeat of all that info. You may have amazing hearing, but there is lots of scientific evidence that clearly indicates that it is fairly rare for any individual to be able to ABX in a blind test the difference between a properly encoded 128 mp3 with the original CD. If you were posting over at Hydrogenaudio.org the folks would demand that you post your blind ABX test results to back up your statement about detecting differences (one of their terms of service). Of course, we're not over there and things are much looser here. I can't speak to streams from pandora as there are so many more variables in the mix other than just the actual source file (and not sure how to easily do an ABX test with pandora stream since you don't have the source file in another format). Keep in mind that even extremely small differences in volume can make one source sound better than another (again, lots of hard evidence on this). Bottom line, Pandora may very well not sound as good as your local files, but in general, 128 (created with a modern, quality encoder) is typically transparent for most users on most music. Your statement that the reverse is true flies in the face of lots of controlled experiments. I'm not trying to pick a fight by the way, I just hate to see myths about lossy encoding quality be perpetuated. That said, there are lots of reason to rip music to FLAC (or other lossless format), and I do so with all my own CDs. -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71602 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Also, currently the power on/off is ignored by squeezeslave unless you're running the version which includes the display or interactive compile option. Please add -Y/var/tmp/squeezeslave.log and -dslimproto options to your plist to capture any output that squeezeslave might be sending during the sleep/resume cycle. It might help with debugging. Change the path and filename for the logfile if needed. The keepalive option is silently ignored by squeezeslave if the server version is 7.0+, so unless you're running 6.5 it's not going to help. Would you provide the compile options line from -V as well. [slim] Logitech - please work with Pandora for 192kbps streaming!
I am a paying Pandora One account holder, which means that when I'm listening to Pandora on my computer I am treated to 192kbps audio that sounds notably better than 128kbps garbage. Unfortunately this enhanced audio quality does not work on the Squeezebox platform. I contacted Pandora support about this and they said that they have considered adding 192kbps audio streams to other devices but that it would also take work on the part of the device maker to support this as well. So, if Logitech has any pull with Pandora whatsoever please try to get us 192kbps audio for the Squeeze products. I have three players and am considering a fourth but since Pandora is what I use most it's a real drag to listen to low quality garbage on my mid-fi and hi-fi setups. -- jmpage2 jmpage2's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71602 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] MusicIP... still relevant?
Hi, During the process of reworking my network, and all the varous servers I needed to reconfigure my music server. I had been running MusicIP, primarly as a database and libray managment/editing tool with a reasonably successful integration to the Squeezeserver. I have looked around, and do not see anything I prefer for this function. I've been following SpiceFlys guide and realize that one of the steps doesn't work because my MusicIP license is invalid. I am willing to purchase a license, but the software seemed to be abandoned by the creator and the links are all busted. so... does anyone have an idea of where I can get a license key for MusicIP or... should I abandon this idea and go with another, newer technology? It will make sure the format is correct and put it in the right place. It also allows you to input the command line params the same way you would in a terminal. [slim] How to Stream over Internet to Motorola Droid
Can anyone describe what steps, settings and apps are necessary to stream my music over the Internet (3G?) to my Motorola Droid? Some background info: I am running Squeezebox Server version 7.4.1 installed using the WHS installer. My server is a first generation HP MediaSmart Server (EX470). I have successfully installed and used the Android SqueezeControl app from within my home network to control my SB Boom (very nice app!). I know I need to do something with port 9000 on my router and I have the WHS Port Forwarding Add-In installed. But I'm not sure how to configure it, especially how to do it in a reasonably secure manner. My router is a D-Link DI-624. My router always assigns my server the same local IP, but I don't have a static IP Internet connection (Comcast). I do have remote access set-up using an HP web address (https://www.myname.hpmediasmart.com). I tried accessing my music by adding /stream.mp3 to the above url, but since I haven't done anything to open port 9000 yet I'm not surprised it did not work. I have the DroidLive Lite and RockNDroid players installed. Any recommendation on which to keep/use? What other information is pertinent to helping? Thanks for whatever advice/direction you can offer. I did search this forum (and beyond), but did not come up with anything specific enough. There is a nice thread on streaming to Nokia phones, but the port configuration and security issue isn't described in enough detail. Apologies if I missed info somewhere -- a pointer is fine if this info can be found elsewhere. -David -- dlaflamm dlaflamm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34355 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71590 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It has several methods to get a bit perfect rip but it does not use AccurateRip. How much does your power cost? At .10/kwh a standard PC like the one your using uses about 120watts and costs about $105 a year to run. A VortexBox appliance uses 24 watts and cost $20 a year to run and a Micro applaince draws 6 watts a year and cost $5 a year to run. So if you bought a VortexBox Micro Applaince for $400 your payback would be about 4 years just in power savings! Choices: 1. Keep updating your local SB server when this happens, then the two servers will be the same FW version. 2. Don't connect your players directly to MySB.com, just use your local SB server for all Internet Radio & Music Services, no updates needed. 3. Continue to switch between your local SB server and MySB.com and update the player each time, as you are doing now. 4. Turn off Automatic Updates (not available on all SB players). Some of the SB players can be set to ignore FW updates when switching between the two servers, like the SB3. Re: [slim] Help me put toghether HW and SW for my server!
Which SB is best for you totally depends on the requirements and usage scenarios. In my living room I like to see what is playing when sitting in the couch and hence the SB3 is the best choice. Regarding controlling the SB3 I prefer both the SBC and the IR remote. Using the IR remote searching is a lot quicker (using the lazy search plug-in). Searching with the SBC is no fun! However browsing through your library and picking tracks or albums to listen is much more fun with the SBC. In the kitchen I have speakers on the top of the closets and no room to install a SB3 on a decent place hence the pleads for a receiver to be placed on top of the closets too. The upcoming SB Touch has a lot of potential but has two caveats: 1. The touch part will only be usable when placed on comfortable location. Many SBs are placed at the other equipment often on low height making the touch part hardly usable unless you like to kneel down every time 2. Although a very nice color display I expect it to be unreadable from greater distances, at least not up to the same as the SB3 Hope this is of any help -- SilverRS8 Author of -'AlbumCatalogCreator' (http://acc.vanholt.nl)- for SqueezeCenter '_' (http://www.badkamerpech.nl) SlimServer. 2xSB3, 1xDuet, 1xiPhone iPeng, Ubuntu NAS + SC, Denon PMA-1500AE + DacMagic + Monitor Audio Silver RS8 = :-) SilverRS8's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12818 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71508 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
