[slim] Running Slimserver.pl in windows
I have not been using the windows executable since 6.4. I installed perl and then use srvany to load slimserver.pl as a service. This was worked for me in several versions. However today I checked out the latest version of 7.4 trunk. I had everything working but the service for Slimserver.pl would not work (even though I had updated the registry settings for the srvany key, to the new directory were the 7.4 trunk was located). It worked fine if I just ran "perl slimserver.pl" from the command line. In messing around with the SqueezeMySQL service I can't get anything to run now. I have even installed the windows executable and it will install, but it can't start SqueezeServer. It all seems to be a problem with the MySQL. If I manually start the SqueezeMySQL service, it just stops in a few seconds. How can I get the SqueezeMySQL to work again? Thanks. -- lemmy999 lemmy999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9284 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72438 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] 7.4.1 rebuffering woes
Yep Holding 1 is the xilink reset (you unplug it and hold 1 during boot so that you see "xilink reset" in the display ) Holding + ( add ) is the factory reset. Your SB3 should have firmware version 130 can bees seen in the web interface settings > information page If you rummage around in the setup menu of the SB3 (hold left arrow a while) You can set it to auto update firmware , note you can do that after you got it updated to one of never versions. Othervise an SB3 wants you to hold the brightness button to upgrade firmware For other readers, for future reference http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_Reset_commands If you get "weird" audio out of an squuezebox a xilink reset is usually the thing to do. -- Mnyb Main hifi: SB3 (soon to replaced by a Touch :) It is on preorder) Bedroom/Office: Boom Kitchen: Receiver (soon to be replaced by my SB3 and the SBRto be stuffed in a box in the attic ) I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to controll this Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72300 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

iPhone;493936 Wrote: > Is time and material for the above procedure more or less then a used > SB3 on EBAY? Have you looked on eBay lately? There used to be a LOT of SB3 / SB Classic units for sale. Now there are 3 on the main eBay site -- two auctions that are days from closing, and one seller asking $349 USD for an SB3 with a homemade power supply. SB Receivers are similarly in short supply on eBay (three Buy It Now for about $200 each), though there are a few more Duet setups and Booms available. Things are certainly much different than a couple months ago when you could buy refurbished players from MySqueezebox.com for cheap. It looks like supply is drying up, so Logitech really needs to get the new gear out on the market. Logitech hasn't announced anything, but I expect they'll release an updated Receiver (and Duet bundle) at the same time as Touch, based on the Touch/SqueezePlay/ARM platform, so I *don't* think it's a bad sign that Receivers seem hard to find right now. I don't at all think Logitech is wavering in its support of the Squeezebox product line, but merely that they underestimated demand for the old gear. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72358 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] SB3 randomly rebooting
Any hints on how to debug this problem?: Over the last few weeks, my SB3 has been rebooting randomly while playing. It doesn't seem to be related to a particular file type - it has happened with MP3 files, podcasts and streaming audio. It generally happens perhaps 20 minutes after playing, but has happened within a couple of minutes of starting. I've tried various logging settings on the server, but I haven't yet seen any hint of a cause. I've tried factory reset + audio reset. No sign of similar problems with a Boom running off the same server. Is there a way of logging problems on the client side? Any other hints? Thanks... Re: [slim] Think I've been ripped off - Squeezebox Classic Store Demo Unit.. Help!
I'd have to agree that the best solution is to get the seller to swallow it back. Might be hard to do if you bought it "as is", although if the seller knew it was unusable this isn't a lot different from shipping you a box of rocks. If you end up stuck with it, before you start trying to convert it into a non-demo unit it seems to me there was at least one person posting here with a SB3 who'd had the display unit fail. Someone else mentioned that the display module is available for around $200. So what you might have there is a donor display unit, ripe for desoldering... -- bobkoure bobkoure's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14646 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72358 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I believe Logitech would get more advantages of supporting third party development than actually owning the third party development. One reason that we have some very creative solutions made by third party developers today is that they aren't restricted by the Logitech management and strategy in the same way as all in-house development are. [slim] system audio output via osx?
Hello- Searched long and hard and found reference to "waveinput" plugin to play windows audio over squeezebox. However, I cannot find reference to a certain function in OSX. Is there a way to have VLC, Quicktime, or DVD player audio from and OSX computer be sent to squeezebox? I used to use cables to playback audio for video, and have been enjoying the squeezebox for music, but would still like to use stereo system for computer video. Is this possible? Also I see several references to the "user guide" but the logitech site only offers the quick start guide. Does the "user guide" still exist? Without wanting to get into the rest of the discussion, two things: 1. I agree it would be a big and important advantage for Logitech if they managed to capitalize more on the 3rd party developments; this would include a more structured support to not demoralize people like yourselves. _I_ can't complain about bad support, though, also I, too, sometimes write rants abou these things, expect the next one in January when I try to catch up with the next round of last-minute-changes-to break-things when 7.5 release dates move closer. ajkidle;493532 Wrote: > I guess what I really mean to argue is that Logitech needs a formal > branded iPhone/iPod app. > Why ? How would they earn money on it ? As I see it today Logitech will earn money on iPeng (by selling more Squeezeboxes) and they don't have to spend anything in support and development costs besides a few minutes now and then when they support third party developers. Third party development like this should really be a win for Logitech. I have no idea how much pippin has earned on iPeng but I suspect it's not close to the time he has spent designing, developing and supporting users who purchased it. I suspect the case would be the same for Logitech if they maintained it. I strongly suspect there isn't a single third party developer on the Squeezebox platform that has earned back their investment in hours of time spent developing and supporting their add-ons. Fortunately most third party developers don't do it for the money. Still, I'd be much more afraid that iPeng would die in the hands of Logitech than in the hands of the original developer. I'm personally VERY impressed with iPeng and I know there are a lot of design and development hours behind it, pippin really deserves all the credit he gets. Logitech should focus on making the software that runs on their own hardware as good as possible and to make it interesting for third party developers to do the extras. -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info) (Install my plugins through Extension Downloader) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library, Title Switcher and Database Query plugins' (http://wiki.erland.isaksson.info/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72308 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I have to say that I was being a bit facetious about Logitech hiring Pippin. I did not mean that literally, really. My point was more that (1) Controller was a disappointment compared to what a controller might be; (2) Logitech seems to be ignoring the front end -- whether that means a robust web UI or stand-alone applications -- which is more important to the great mass of consumers than supporting every possible music format. -- rksingla rksingla's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19702 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72308 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Unfortunately your problem is with the seller. Was it listed as "I've been using this SB3 for a while and upgraded to xx player" or is this a wholesaler who buys and sells anything he can get his hands on (which I suspect is the case as you say he sold several other SB3's). If the seller claimed it was in use by himself then he's obviously a BS'er. Regardless, it's the sellers responsibility. Do you have any recourse? Can you dispute the sale through your payment processor? You have pretty clear proof that the mfr of the item in question has confirmed this is NOT an item ever intended for resale to dispute this sale through proper channels. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72358 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

(I was able to disable it for fileformats, but that didn't have any effect on the streaming.) -- nerieru nerieru's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34463 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71720 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] 7.4.1 rebuffering woes
I'm not familiar with Airport but you amy wish to compare to the following https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14570 Nor am I familar with Mac OS and boxes. The timing of the problem suggests 1) the new OS plus upgraded SBS has stretched mac too far 2) the new software has an issue 3) something else has happened simultaneously (typically nighbours impacting wifi). The process for nailing 2) is the same as 3) which is, unfortunately tedious, systematic trouble shooting by changing one component at a time. typical tests (which aren't necessarily easy). a) temporarily wire network to check wireless b) drop back to old SBS on new OS c) run server temporarily on a faster/bigger computer d) watch meticuluously for parallel events (microwaves, background processes) the fact that OP is hanging is a more unusual fault than intermittant rebuffering, if it is consistent then I'd call support. Ah-hah! Only I don't have MusicIP, and I have the plugin marked as "inactive". I never have had MusicIP which explains why the symbol is new to me. Maybe I should install it? Re: [slim] Internet Radio Gone
Those are both AAC format streams but I think on ReadyNAS AAC transcoding is not enabled so the streams won't play. I think this is a bug in SBS as it should not be requesting an AAC stream from RadioTime. The AAC request is preventing you getting a playable WMA streams. So try using these URL instead. http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s17525&formats=mp3,wma,wmpro,wmvoice,wmvideo,ogg&partnerId=16 http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s48132&formats=mp3,wma,wmpro,wmvoice,wmvideo,ogg&partnerId=16 -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71720 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] SB3 Display Question
I've had an SB3 for quite a few years. Recently I've noticed an oddity on the display. I'm worried it's been there all along and so I'm going to look like a wally. But nothing ventured, nothing gained, as they say... So, on search or browse results screens, like if I press Music Library > Artists I get a screen which says the artist in big letters and at the top right it says 1 of 1000 (or whatever). But just to the left of the "1" is a funny little character that I don't understand. It's always an "m" with a line above and below. Or maybe a 3-legged elephant being made into a sandwich? Or something? Actually it doesn't always appear: for example, it doesn't for "All Songs", nor if I Browse Music Folder. It appears on the SB3 and also SoftSqueeze. What does it mean? And where's the documentation :-) -- bstrulo bstrulo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15997 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72411 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Internet Radio Gone
Well if the display is exactly as you indicated (i.e. no SomaFM on display ) and the same URL works OK when player is connected directly to mysb.com - then it indicates there is a problem with your SBS on ReadyNAS. Since "70% of stations" work - you need to find out what is the common factor between the 30% of stations that don't work. A start would be to check the streams formats. If you are unable - then provide a list of the URL the streams that don't work. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71720 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I don't think it is, because I can connect to 70% of the stations just fine. And I can connect to mysqueezebox.com just fine as well. And the same URL does work fine if I am connected to mysqueezebox.com All the stations work when I am connected to mysqueezebox.com.
