SBS seems to pick this up first. With 'Bands'I don't use it (Zeppelin,
Led), so SBS then goes back to using just ARTIST.

Thx fphredd,

I can now do some testing in order to see if the feature will be added
to ACC.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox server on OS x

2009-12-22 Thread danco

 I run a squeezbox server on a mac-mini and in the energy-saver
preferences I simply move the slider for 'computer sleep' slider over to
the 'never' setting. Also I 'uncheck' the checkbox that says 'put hard
disks to sleep', the result being that is simply stays on and running
always. Been running like that in media server' mode for a few years
now with absolutely not one issue to mention.

Sorry if I'm missing something but all this talk of additional
utilities to keep a system from going to sleep just doesn't make sense
to me as it's seemingly an easy thing to do right there in the
 preferences.

If you are running your machine solely as a media server, you're right.
But, like many people, I run SBS on the only machine I have, so I need
to have it sleep if inactive.

Having to go into System Preferences, set the slider to Never, and then
(most important) remember to set it back for normal use is really a
hassle. A click in a menu bar item (on and off) as Caffeine allows is
much neater.

There's also an issue about putting hard drives to sleep. Strictly
speaking, serving music should prevent hard drive sleep anyway, so there
would be no need to uncheck this button. However, some machines refuse
to sleep on the Energy Saver settings (there have been long discussions
of this in Apple discussion groups, without any satisfactory answer as
to what software or additional hardware causes this). And it seems that
the programs that will force sleep even if Energy Saver does not do not
keep the computer awake just because there is hard drive activity, they
need keyboard or mouse activity.

I'm having difficulty determining what your issue is. With most CD
burning software (from windows media player, to itunes, to dbpoweramp CD
burner, etc.), you simply open your directory of music files, create a
playlist, or drag/drop files themselves into a window of the burning
software and then click on create audio CD. Are you asking about how
to automate creating lots of CDs at once? Again, maybe I'm missing
something here, but I'm just not clear on what you are having trouble
with. And as noted, squeezebox, squeezeboxserver, etc. etc. have
NOTHING to do with burning CDs or creating playlists for burning CDs.

Re: [slim] Best of Luck - moving on...

2009-12-22 Thread NoFlyZone

I solved the problem with the screwed up library in Squeezecenter. As I
mentioned, artists would show album titles and albums would show
artists, all in a totally random way. Having a 1000 + library in FLAC
this has been most frustrating as I found it difficult if not impossible
to play s title I wanted to hear and worse yet, others who had desires
for certain artists/albums to play could not. Kind of embarrassing
considering the level of system I have :-/

The problem was with in the path. Although MediaMonkey had no problem
with long filenames Squeezecenter apparently does. In MediaMonkeys
Tools/Auto Organize Files, one could rename file names based upon a
tagging scheme. Very cool. I was able to rename nearly 1000 CD's worth
of song titles with a click of a mouse. Doubting this would work I
deleted then rescanned my library, sat on the couch and witnessed a
perfectly organized library from my Squeezebox 3. Haven't seen that in
over a year! Woo Hoo!

Thanks for the tips and helpful information from this forum.

No thanks to Logitech support who refused to even talk about a possible
tagging issue. Business must be good..

It's good to know that other companies as of late (say Nuforce) have
been extremely helpful with problems I've encountered with a product,
even when I was the cause!

[slim] ESPN Radio?

2009-12-22 Thread jrbzzz

I'd like to be able to listen to the national feed of ESPN Radio, to
avoid all of the local commercials / local shows / pre-empting of the

(from Bristol, CT) does not work and neither do the links posted on here

I know this feed exists since I can listen to it on my iPhone with

Flash app and I haven't yet figured out a working link that way
either.)

Every burning software has a method for adding tracks to burn to its

I'll try to say this another way and maybe it will be clearer: your CD
burning software does not read the playlists and then chase down the
tracks on the ReadyNAS. Maybe some CD burning software exists that will
do this, but I haven't come across any software like that yet.

You need to drag the _tracks_ themselves into the CD burning software.
Don't drag the playlists. Drag the tracks.

Re: [slim] M3u Playlist previous/next not updating song title/author?

2009-12-22 Thread dlask

i don't think it's related to mp3 tagging... I created another playlist
with 'properly tagged' mp3's: http://www.dlask.nl/test1.m3u
It contains:
#EXTINF:321,Hex Dispensers - Forest
http://freedownloads.last.fm/download/80867459/Forest%2BRay%2BColson.mp3
#EXTINF:321,Porttishead - Glory Box
http://freedownloads.last.fm/download/370506627/Glory%2BBox%2B%2528OCCID%2Bremix%2529.mp3

Same again, when using 'tune in url' the first song is displayed
correctly (NB based on information from the m3u file - not from the mp3
tags), when skipped to next song I still see the information of the
first mp3.

Any other suggestions?

Remote streaming an m3u with multiple files like this works, but not
very well. The code is designed around radio streams, not playlists of
many files. Feel free to file a bug.

Re: [slim] Playlist creation

2009-12-22 Thread Siduhe

Before you create playlists using Squeezebox Server, you need to have
entered a playlist directory in Settings and make sure it is
read/writeable by SBS.

If you want to create your playlists in Squeezecenter, see this
thread:

Using Web Interface:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62042highlight=playlist

You create a playlist using the Controller in a similar way - add songs
to the Now Playlist list, then scroll down to the end of the Now Playing
list and there is an option to save it.

You also create playlists using other bits of software (m3u or .pls
format) and move them into the playlist folder which SBS reads. However,
the file paths will need to be consistent between Squeezecenter and
whichever sofware you are using - so if Winamp (for example) sees the
path to your music files as C:/Music and Squeezecenter Music Library is
set up to read //Music/ or similar, a playlist created in Winamp won't
work. Once you've created your playlist in the other music management
program, move the playlist into whichever folder you've set up in
Settings/Playlist Folder and do a playlist only rescan.

See also the Playlist Manager plugin which I think is working with the
current release of SBS and which extends some functionality.

[slim] duet controller settings not sticking

2009-12-22 Thread upriver

Hello-

I am annoyed by how long it takes the Duet controller to wake up when
it sleeps. Its usually to quickly mute or silence a track for a phone
call or something like that. The display just says please wait for up
to a full minute before waking. I have gone into the settings and under
Factory Test there is the power management which I disable. However,
the settings keep returning to enabled. How can I keep this setting
set??

thanks for any help--

Interesting ... I did not expect that free downloads from last.fm work
without logging in, or without having an account at all. I wonder if
this intentional or just a loophole. :)

But I'm not sure if remote MP3s in playlists really are a good idea.
Keep in mind that every time you play that playlist, every song has to
be downloaded in real time, over and over again. That's quite a waste of
internet bandwidth, and the owner of the server you are downloading from
might even have to pay for it.

(I had that case once when someone's Winamp downloaded one of my radio
shows again and again until I finally kicked him out with an HTTP 403
status, assuming that he must have accidentally had his office PC on
repeat when he left for the weekend. A few minutes later I received an
email from a guy who apologized a lot and no, it was not by mistake, he
actually liked it so much that he had played it on repeat the whole day.
:D But he had not been aware that he was repeatedly pulling it from my
server.)

Can't you just download the files and play them locally?

Well said, definitely it's a waste of bandwidth doing this and unless
you own the server you should avoid it.

 Try ./squeezeslave-lnx26 -r10

You may also need to add the hostname of your Squeezebox Server after
the -r10 separated by a space if the server is not running on the same
 computer.

Ralphy,
I have some more questions hope you or someone could answer. I am
running squeezecenter 7.3.4 on ubuntu 8.04.1. I saw that there is a
patch file for 7.3. What is that patch for? If needed, how do I apply
it?
Thanks.

Re: [slim] M3u Playlist previous/next not updating song title/author?

2009-12-22 Thread dlask

bandwith is not an issue, not for me (i can download complete movies)
and i guess not for sites like last.fm. I see everywhere 'free mp3s'
offered nowadays.
I sure can download those Mp3's, but there are so many i want to play,
so why not leave them where they are? Big advantage is that I don't have
to run my own server.

Re: [slim] Playlists transfer or copying from a ReadyNas

2009-12-22 Thread kmlevine

i should clarify

I use a Readnas FX with Squeezecenter (firmware) and my music library
on the NAS drives. I have my pc map those folders as Z: drive. I rip to
Z: and at this time the playlists are save ion a playlist folder on the
Nas. When I drag, copy, import or open the Slim playlist, with NERO
express or BurningRom, AS soon as you drag a m3u, it starts to copy
files and then stops, with a message that one file can’t opened or
copied. The file transfer process stops and there is no option but to
cancel. It looks like cue sheet pointer or something non media file has
been inserted. a no-media file pointer line has been inserted..
Of course I can copy each file individually or drag them, and then
correct the order..buttt I thought this was the modern age.

Musically this is my vote today. Allen Toussaint, song writer New
Orleans piano player extraordinare was here a few weeks ago. He is
really a living legend. He will probably receive two Grammys this
year…Lifetime Achievement award and for his CD The Bright Missippippi,
which is excellent.
