Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] iPeng 1.2 for iPhone now on the AppStore

2010-03-11 Thread pippin

Ok, I agree this has long been overdue :)

iPeng 1.2.1 has been out for a while now but the User's manual was not
completely up to speed with this release.

Now, this has changed. I'm happy to announce that the User's Manual is
now fully up to date with regards to iPeng 1.2.1. While completing the
1.2.1 version, we added some more detail and hopefully the readability
has improved as well.

Also, the new User's Manual is now available for download in PDF
format.

Like before, it's designed as an online manual, supports readability on
iPhone/iPod touch through an iPhone skin and can be reached using the
links in the App under "Help".

You can find the User's manual at

help.penguinlovesmusic.de

Even if you are an experienced iPeng user, have a look and see whether
you'll discover some features you didn't know about, yet.

Have fun!

Re: [slim] Is it possible? PC & Albumplayer (a windows media player) direct to Squeezebox

2010-03-11 Thread west_sounds

ive been playing with the squeeze centre all night and i have really
come to the conclusion now that it is terrible. I gave it a few days
just to make sure i wasn’t being unfair but the SB software is
absolutely dismal. the hardware is first class probably the best out
there but it is horribly let down with its software. even playing with
the moose interface is awful. its just slow and clunky to use. they have
a great product here which could be so much better its a shame.

there is no way i could live with that software I have just uninstalled
the lot, squeezecentre, squeezeplay and moose. as good as the hardware
is because of the software it is not for me, I will wait for an
alternative. The way technology is moving on I shouldn’t have to wait
too long.

Hopefully some of the software writers will get something sorted for it
soon.

I know its may be personal preference and I even considered getting rid
of Albumplayer if the software was OK but there really is no contest.

I have a complete audio system at my computer including a pre-amp and a
amp. I feed the output of my sound card into the pre-amp. If I had a
Touch I could feed its output into the pre-amp as well.

I have a 24/96 sound card. What signal am I feeding it? The software
emulators don't seem to pass 24/96. That's my issue.

Softsqueeze doesn't play 24/96 because 24/96 is passed unchanged to
Softsqueeze as it is setup to emulate a Transporter and Javasound
doesn't support 24/96.

You should try squeezeslave as it has a different audio subsystem.

The Touch isn't an external sound card. It will supposedly play 24/96

I've got a web server with a pretty similar software configuration and
there it works fine.
Symptoms is that it runs at low priority (~2-3% CPU usage), everything
times out, including web interface, scan takes around 4 days as compared
to <0.5h with trunk.
I tried removing all things squeeze and doing clean installs without
avail. Installing a 7.5 trunk right over it works fine.

I believe it's either a scheduling issue or some communication deadlock
causing stuff to time out. Lots of errors around this being logged.

[slim] Squeezebox controller buggy

2010-03-11 Thread radiognome

For two days my squeezebox controller could not connect to
mysqeezebox.com. Ik could controll my duet perfectly from my computer
(web-remote) or my iphone (iPeng), but not from the controller.

I rebooted, but it did not connect to my network propperly several
times. No mysqueezebox.com or my local server. Did a factory restore
after which it did at least see my local server, but failed on all
connection-tests to mysqueezebox.com, got connection, lost all
connections and froze.

I took out the battery, and after that it suddenly seemed to work fine.
I left home, duet turned off, controller in the cradle, dimmed screen.
When I got home, the controller was all flakey. Menu's did not respond,
and the whole thing was terribly slow. No connection of course, and even
the off-button did not respond.
Took out the battery once more, and it now works again like a dream,
but for how long?.

It runs 7.4.1 for months now, without any serious trouble uptill now.

Any ideas? I read some posts of this about previous versions of the
firmware, but none with a clue about what is really the problem or the
solution.

Thanks for reading, Martin

guys thanks so much. it was the fact that i didn't open up port 3483 for

a few follow-up questions:

what are the risks of having these ports open? a couple of you
mentioned using alternatives to use because of this.

i have searched high and low for stream.mp3 but cannot find it. what is
it exactly?

the one thing that i could not stream on squeezeplay for whatever
reason were favorites on the sbs that were internet radio stations. i
could only stream the music stored locally on the pc running sbs. not a
huge deal, but it would be nice to be able to listen to my favorites as

You can use the WaveInput plugin. There will be an audio delay between
what is on the PC and what is on the squeezebox. There is no way to
avoid this because the squeezebox needs to buffer the stream from the PC
in order to prevent playback issues.

You don't need to keep duplicates. The squeezebox server knows the
capabilities of the players so it will use SOX to downsample the files
on the fly. The downsampling is high quality, so unless this is a
primary listening or headphone setup it should sound good.

This sounds like it may be full of eastern promise and might give us
non-iphone users something akin to ipeng. It also has the advantage of
supporting lots of devices but could be limited by the host app. Are
there any screenshots anywhere of this working on a previous release of
SC? I don't know anything about java or JSON but I can only think that
adapting this to run on SC7.4 s going to be a whole lot easier than
writing an app from scratch. It's just a shame that I don't know how to

* The "24bit" Is probably 80% of the increased SQ .
* Future use, I can only play 48khz -now- my Touch is on order 96k is
not far away, have been building a library for the last 5 months for
this.
Mostly rips of my own DVDA's
* Linn is and some other brands have recordings that are recorded and
mastered in Hirez format, why pay for a watered down version at all. If
I pay I want an copy off the master or as close as they allow me, for
the future uses.

* I have no idea what kind of equipment i would own in the future.
But the stuff I own today do use 24/96 and does some processing
internally room correction and subwoofer filter and 5.1 modes center ch
eq.
My guess is that future hifi will use even more processing. So then
using a higher rez file makes a lot of sense if my hifi is going to do
EQ and other stuff.

Of course buyers beware, there is to many re-fried 16b 44.1 marketed as
"Hi-rez" .

But buying the 24/96 or 24/88.2 from the few that makes them for real
is OK for me If the music suits me.

Yes (Linux version)

Don't know.

It hasn't crashed here in weeks. There seem to be more problems with other
platforms than Linux, as it's mostly been tested on a Linux platform (SB Touch).

[slim] anyone using 7.5 embedded?

2010-03-11 Thread bobkoure

As someone running on somewhat limited server hardware (Via C7) I'm
interested in the 7.5 embedded version.
If you're using it, would you mind mentioning
- the hardware you're using
- general size of your music collection
- any noticeable speedup in the WebUI?
- whether it works with MusicIP (if you use that)
- any problems with squeezeslave

Yes, I know it's unstable, just wondering how unstable.

Thanks!

Re: [slim] Playlist Help

2010-03-11 Thread bline22

Thank you for the reply.

I didn't see an import but will do some searching to make sure i didn't
miss it.

I don't get any error at all it simply does nothing. I have tried
resaving the file as something else within the squeeze server in the
event it was corrupt but that yielded the same results. I can create a
wpl or whatever the MS playlist type is and open those in seconds.

I figured m3u was standard and would have been really surprised if it
wouldn't have been supported.

Can I ask, what player you use that you don't have issues?

Havent used WMP but m3u is a standard playlist format. Is there an
IMPORT function? I'd think you need to do this rather than open. What
error message do you get?

Ok - you've got your wish. The Squeeze setup is pretty well documented
- the hardware can be used with what ever software author wants to
support it. It's not a hardware problem, it's a software problem. It's
up to the software authors, like Albumplayer, to step up if they want to
provide customers the ability to use third party hardware. Or they can
wait until Logitech sees a customer demand for that specific application
large enough to buy its way into the development plan. Or for an
independent author to create the integration - depends on how open the
ISV is with their internals/APIs.

Logitech can either focus on improving the SBS UX or becoming dependent
on the viability, popularity and goodwill of third party ISVs. That's a
pretty hard business case to make. From what I've seen the priority is
on 1) Good hardware 2) Functional Software 3) Extensibility to other
music player/managers (iTunes) and services - Pandora, Last.fm, etc.

As time moves forward the plan should be a well balanced approach - new
hardware to open new market segments and retain current markets, better
software to improve UX and more options with third party software and
services. Without an unlimited budget they are faced with the
traditional triangle of project management - schedule (time), resources
and scope.

The new releases of the Radio, Touch, SBS 7.4x and new applications
indicate that this is the route Logitech is taking and either unexpected
problems with resources or scope are impacting schedule and delaying the
Touch. I'd certainly bet that getting the Touch out the door is
priority 1 at this point, since hardware is the basic revenue driver.

Thanks Andy, I think that's the key. I'll change frequencies, I'm

Thinking about it, when my Boom is playing music it sometimes
interferes with the baby monitor, which isn't a wi-fi device. Starting
to point to a frequency clash.

Looking at the code reveals that the audio device is opened outside the
retry loop and is never reinitialized if the connection is dropped.
Which is what happens when the system drops to sleep. I'll investigate
how this should be handled with the portaudio library.

Right now I'm trying to track down the remote streaming hang with 7.4.

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2010-03-11 Thread badboygolf16v

I wondered if anyone had successfully got DSBridge working on Windows
Server 2008?

The DSBridge tray icon doesn't appear when I start Spotify. My work
around at the moment is to run DSBridge/Spotify on a Hyper-V XP VM,
which works fine.

I used System Internals Process Explorer to compare the XP and Server
installations when up and running. The XP version references the
modified dsound.dll in the Spotify directory, and dsound.dll in the
windows\system32 folder. The Server installation only references the
dsound.dll in the windows\SysWOW64 directory.

It would appear that the standard DLL loading order is different under
Server 2008, perhaps due to permissions or UAC or something else that
I'm not familiar with. Before I start messing around, I wondered if
anyone knew the answer to this one?

Re: [slim] Is it possible? PC & Albumplayer (a windows media player) direct to Squeezebox

2010-03-11 Thread moley6knipe

I think the beauty of these devices is choice, myself: you can use the
IR remote, or a Controller, or an SB Touch, or an iPod Touch with one of
the 3rd party remotes, or a web interface. You can install to a NAS if
you want. Or you can choose to use mysqueezebox.com and leave your
computer off.

Having said that I agree with previous posts about the web interface:
it is slow, even on a well-specified machine; I couldn't personally use
it all the time, I use the IR until I've got enough pennies for an iPod
touch and iPeng.

The key thing for me is how good Squeezeboxes sound and, in my
experience, they work every time I want to listen to music. Some
previous players I've had took, erm, "tinkering" before they'd produce
noise.

I agree and as one other member said it is all about personal
preference. I think even though the software is useable some people
prefer to use what they want to use and it’s the hardware that is the
best part of it.

Software is always changing I would have thought that it has to be best
to make hardware that can be used with what ever is the user wants or
what the fashion is at the moment.
