That's where I was referring to when I asked about transcoding. Unless

All this talk about the Vortexbox appliance makes me wonder if I should
buy one...

I installed the image on a laptop and it worked like a charm. But my
music is currently on a usb-disk, and that made the vortexbox so
not-an-appliance-at-all that I ended up quitting and going back to the
win-xp installation I had before (actually a fresh install, but
whatever...)

But I'm sure it's another story when running as it's supposed to. And
at less than 400$ it's probably close to unbeatable.

And yes, Logitech should definately link to Vortexbox.org the same way
it links to the iPeng site. but a closer relationship than that is
probalby not a good idea.

However, when I'm trying to run spotify on the laptop while using the
squeezebox server on my vortexbox (running sbs Version: 7.4.2 -
 r30227), the following happens:
 * The blue blob turns green
 * The music stops playing on my laptop
 * No music plays on the radio / receiver.
 * The vortexbox SBS reports the following error:
 [10-04-02 12:43:46.7764] Slim::Web::JSONRPC::requestMethod (383)

I've tried to disable the laptop firewall to no effect. I've also tried
running SBS on a separate vista PC, and connecting to spotify running on
the laptop (i.e. same setup as with the vortexbox, but a windows vista
PC is running sbs instead) and this works perfectly.

Are there any known issues with running sbs on a linux PC connecting to
spotify/dsbridge running on a windows PC?
Just wanted to post an update on this, in case other people have the
same problems.

Basically, I got it to work but I have no idea how or why.

I deleted the favorite pointing to the laptop URL with
spotify+dsbridge, and added it again by typing the url as an internet
radio. It still didn't work, though (with the same symptoms as those
described above), so in frustration I pressed the play button several
times. And suddenly, it started working. And it has kept on working
since.

So I guess this also proves that dsbridge works through SBS, even if
the SBS is on another pc than the one running spotify+dsbridge.

Anything else to try - is the db stored somewher odd on the WHS, can I

 Any help gratefully received.

Hi,

Always tricky diagnosing db problems.. But.. Some thoughts:
* after unbinding, make sure you've rebooted your server machine just
to make sure mysql's restarted
* make sure you've opened 9092 on the server pc, not the moose pc
* check the mysql port is 9092 - some nas boxes use the mysql default
of 3306, but WHS should be 9092
* try the 'guess database details'..
* try using root as the db usr
* make sure you're using a numeric IP address in the Server tab

Hope something there helps.. if you're still getting problems, send me
a moose-log (misc tab) of
hitting rescan in the options and i'll see if i can spot anything..

Oh, and how recent is your 7.5.1 ? Small chance they've tweaked the db
schema and it's causing
problems, although i usually get a deluge of emails when this happens,
and havent yet.. :-)

RadioTime does indeed replace your local stations.
I believe everything within the Internet Radio menu is supplied by
RadioTime, whether you have a RadioTime account or not.
If you don't have a RadioTime account then MySB guesses as to your
local market based on your IP, then gets it's streams from RadioTime
based on that guess.
If you link a RadioTime account to your MySB account then your local
is whatever you told RadioTime was your location.

If you live in NYC but enter a San Diego zip code into RadioTime as
your location, your locals will be the stations broadcasting in the
San Diego market. ;)

I installed it once on an old machine to try it out and I was greatly

be clamoring about the USB drive usability issue with VortexBox. With

Re: [slim] What If Logitech Partnered with VortexBox?

2010-04-23 Thread Siduhe

I'm another recent convert to Vortexbox. We had a perfectly usable
server powering the software before, but it was a power hog (the BIOS
didn't support WOL) and not exactly user friendly for my better half.
It's a very, very slick solution. Plug and play for those that want a
turnkey solution but with the ability to mess around under the bonnet
if you want.

As for the USB point - I haven't found that to be an issue at all -
I've see the thread on here but it doesn't reflect my experience.
There are some fairly clear instructions to follow on the vortexbox
forums and then all works as expected. Although I agree that the
developers may make that aspect more plug and play in future too.

Buy one or built your own DIY Server running Vortexbox as I did. The
appliance is a very good deal for what one gets and its turn-key right
out of the box. I had an Atom MB, RAM, and drives so it made sense for
me to shop around for a case big enough to hold the drives.

I think the Appliance is the perfect solution for people that can get
all their music on a 2TB drive or smaller.

I am also doing what Jimbres is doing. I rip with dBpowerAmp and use
the Vortexbox Server as my 24/7/365 music server. I have 3 CDs that
dBpowerAmp would not rip, feed them to the Vortexbox and it ripped all
three of them.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2010-04-23 Thread emalvick

Purchased the app last night and tried to utilize it. Control of my
Duet was OK, but I see no album art with the app in browsing or
now-playing. The duet remote shows the art on its now playing screen
but Squeeze Commander doesn't when sitting side by side with the
remote. Not sure if I am missing something or not.

I have the settings to use both cache options (RAM and SD card). I've
tried toggling the Crop or Not with the art, but that doesn't seem to
do anything.

Otherwise, I do like the app, and I love that I can access my favorites
and the search features make my need for the custom browse menus a low
priority.

[slim] Where to go if App Fails To Connect

2010-04-23 Thread pecnj

What's the process to report an error when a specific App, for me today
it's Mediafly, fails when it's selected on a Squeezebox.

Home / MySqueezebox.com - Error

Do we contact the service, Mediafly, Live365, Shoutcast, etc., or is
there a Logitech procedure to follow first?

The App may not be configured in mysquuezebox.com such as with my
problem with Mediafly for the past 18 hours
Oops!
An error has occurred. We're working to fix the problem, thank you for
your patience.

But, is anyone working on it or is that a default message?

So self administration becomes problematic and the App service
company itself may not recognize an issue with it's other streaming
device interfaces (e.g. Roku).

It can be frustrating trying to align the App company and Logitech to
look at the problem rather than pointing fingers to the user, the App
company, or Logitech.

My dsbridge.ini says the following (the default) so this should be ok:
[SPOTIFY.EXE]

HTTPPort=8124
TitlePrefix=Spotify -
CoverArt=1
CoverArtX=0
CoverArtY=-275
CoverArtWidth=234

OIC, yes, that is correct.
You could probably do some customizations to your liking. Like keep
Local to your true local, then use RadioTime's presets and folders for
another areas/types, etc..
You can create multiple folders on RadioTime.

You have to keep in mind that the Internet Radio menu item is really
more for the casual listener (you don't even need a MySB account to use
it).
I think the more dedicated Internet Radio and Music Services listener
will mostly use the My Apps menu.

An example, using RadioTime and your SBS web UI to easily save multiple
locals each as a separate Folder in your SBS Favorites:
SBS web UI RadioTime By Location North America United States
*pick state*
. now hover your mouse over your desired city, click the HEART
icon

This will create a unique, separate folder of that cities locals in
your SBS Favorites
Repeat for as many cities (or states, or countries, or continent).
However you want it. :)

Squeezeplay works under wine very well for controlling all the players
in the house. I'm not able to get the sound out of the joggler at the
moment with Squeezeplay for local play sadly. Am running the pulseaudio
version of wine which I thought would get it working.

Just need to find a squeezeplay skin that's optimised for 800x480

Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v3

2010-04-23 Thread fphredd

I just want to say 'Thanks!' Frank for continued work.

Not only did you add my .csv request, but for those that don't need the
album art, this will also help with print setup issues some people have
mentioned, since once in Excel you can do what you want with info,
layout, etc.

So, if you've been willing to pay for iPeng or other coding people have
done mostly for no real monetary gain (I can't imagine iPeng covers
Pippin's rent and ski vacations) why not voluntarily donate to this?
I'll bet Frank would promise to use it for beer, and then all you've
done is buy him a couple of rounds.

If this post is inappropriate, let me know and I will delete, but
that's my $.02

Much of my music is live recordings. My 'Album' tag is generally date

Hello and Welcome to the Forum.

You can order one from Logitech or go out on the Internet and google
the type/kind of power supply that you're looking for. There are a ton
of PS in the 5VDC range that have 2 to 5 amps. It will not hurt a thing
to get a 3, 4, or 5 amp supply. Just make sure it is 2 amps or more.

When I copy the link to the artwork (from spotify, right click on the

supposed to be out any day now.
I also found that http;//[serverip]:9000/nokia770 worked great for me
because there are play pause buttons right on the top of the page
which is handy. I couldn't get /light to work.
Are there any custom themes out there that might work better?
