Re: [slim] HELP! Terminally (?) sick squeezebox 3

2010-05-07 Thread JadeMonkee

My squeezebox has a temperamental plug, too.
I just moved my router, which touched the plug, and it rebooted. I then
pulled and re-insterted the plug, and... nothing.
No life in my Squuezebox 3.
I'm going to do a full reset (xlinx, too), just as soon as I find out
how...

[slim] Very simple iPeng query

2010-05-07 Thread cliveb

I'm thinking about having a play with iPeng (I'll borrow my daughter's
iPod Touch to try it out).

But I'm currently running SqueezeCenter 7.3.2 - never had any need to
update it. I checked on the iPeng site and couldn't find any indication
of which versions of SqueezeCenter/SqueezeboxServer it works with. Will
iPeng work ok with 7.3.2? (If it's relevant, I don't use
mysqueezebox.com).

It works but you won't have all the functionality you'll see with 7.4 or
later.

7.4 introduced a way to add context sensitive information (e.g. Album
Info, Artists Info) in 7.3 that's limited to Track Info and stuff
provided by Erland's plugins.

That's the main difference, I believe.

Re: [slim] embedded stream for favorites

earlier there has been a smil-file on that web page. that file contained
the link rtsp://... With this link in my favorites I have had access to
the last show.
Now this link in my favorites always directs me to the same show two
weeks ago. I checked the webpage of radioeins where the have a
clickable link to the actual show but the side doesn't contain a
smil-file anymore. By now I didn't find a new link to the archived
stream.

That show deserves to be listened via squeezebox not via computer...

Actually the SqueezePlay interface is quite different from the older
players, such as SB, SB2, SB3/Classic, Transporter, and Boom.

I am pretty sure it can be used outside the local network. You should
be able to connect to a remote server via Settings Advanced
Networking Remote Libraries Add new library, but I've never tried
it myself. All the usual cautions about secure transmission, opening of
your server to the internet, etc apply. If you value any of the
information on your server, you want to be sure of what you are doing.

I never get the menu choices you mention when I launch Squeezeplay from
outside my home network, so I guess it won't work.

Besides there's a serious audio playback bug where you can only play
music through the speakers of your mac, and not through, say, a sound
card, so it's pretty irrelevant at this point anyways.

(I reported the audio bug a week or two ago, but no fix as of yet).

[slim] RCA Cables in the UK

2010-05-07 Thread elziko

I have moved my Squeezebox slightly further away from my amp using a
very long cheap RCA to RCA cable and unfortunately it picks up a lot of
noise.

I'd like to buy a new cable about 2m or maybe 2.5m in length - can
someone recommend somewhere I can but a decent quality but good value
cable on the internet. I guess I'm hoping to pay no more than £15 and
I'm not interested in anything that just looks great or relies on any
pseudo science just a decent cable. Does such thing a exist?

Ok, here is a first version that should work both on MacOS X and Linux

Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v3

Hi,

This appears to be an excellent tool... I can imagine having better
documentation of my albums will make it easier to avoid buying
duplicates when I am at the store! One issue is preventing me from
using it though - Squeezebox Server says I have 1421 albums but ACC
says I have 1410. So I will never know if I am buying a duplicate of
one of the 11 that is missing ;-)

I do not have any idea where to begin to diagnose why 11 are missing...
if you have time I am certainly willing to collect data.

Thank you,

-Dan

Its not a free 30 day trail if you have to give them billing

called Free evaluation if they need a credit card or billing

when my free trail is over. They are of course going to cut my service
off after 30 days if I don't sign up. But they are never getting my
card number until I actually sign up for paid service.

This is in no way Logitech's fault. It is Rhapsody's fault and
secondary the fault of anybody giving a company a credit card number so
they could be billed at will by Rhapsody in the first place.

If the company wants me to try it for Free then it should be just
that, FREE (no credit card required). The oldest trick in the book is a
Free 30 day sample of something, just pay for shipping IE give us your

I now have a problem, if it is extravagant to have two Squeezeboxes in

my better half has an SB Radio on her bedside table, and I have an SB3
in the rack with the Master Bedroom HT surround sound setup. The better
half liked going to sleep to the nature sounds on the Boom and fell in
love with the SB Radio and wanted it on her night table. Now if she
goes to sleep before me, she sets the SB Radio to the sound she wants
and sets the shut off timer. Then when I go to sleep I do the same
thing with the Boom. I always hated having all the stuff on in the HT
Rack all nigh after the SB3 shut off. Boom and SB Radio fixed that.

Re: [slim] How to download squeezebox desktop?

2010-05-07 Thread Eric Seaberg

My problem with SqueezePlay is that I can no longer access my server
over the night at port 9000. SqueezePlay doesn't allow you to access
your server unless it's LOCAL. Am I missing something here?

I liked SoftSqueeze much better

Re: [slim] Connecting two rooms to one SB3?

I now have a problem, if it is extravagant to have two Squeezeboxes in
one room, what is it to have three?!

OK, you win :-).

We considered a Radio for my wife's bedside table too, but she
perferred her old fashioned alarm clock - which I can understand.

I do have 2 rooms with 2 squeezeboxes in it. In the living room, I
have a squeezebox receiver connected to my main stereo system and a
touch connected to a headphone amp next to my man chair.

That's gotta count for something :-).

So...for anybody reading this, it is OK to have multiple squeezeboxes
in the same room for differenct listening purposes. Really...it's
K.

(So this is what it feels like to be a pusher.)

I don't even know where the radio alarm clock ended up, but once she
saw the SB Radio (the Boom was starting to grow on her already), the
better half had to have the SB Radio bedside. Hey, I could mount a
Touch in the wall to control the Mater Bedroom Squeezeboxes! Four in
one room does seem a bit extreme though and might lead to a TV Show on
AE, 'Squeezebox Intervention'. But I could replace the SB3 with a
Touch and just about accomplish the same thing.

Maybe this should have been in the Squeezebox Addition thread? Sorry
for thread jacking.

[slim] SB3 Dead what to look for?

2010-05-07 Thread mswlogo

My daughter's SB3 died.

The power supply is good.

But no display or anything.

I tried to reset to factory holding ADD on power up.

Is there something that commonly fails on these?
