In my opinion the album list should be cached and ready for exploring immediately, a background process could search for updates on the Squeeze Server (or perhaps on-demand updating). Please, please for the love of God, incorporate bookmarking or someway to remember the playback position! I squeeze howard stern (4+hrs in one MP3). Re: [slim] Listening breaks up when copying large files
not to speak about microwaves and other noisy appliances... It is really astounding the amount of problems people have, when thinking about the tiny amount of data needed for playing a tune. I swear to cables as it just works!!! and I do not even have the need for streaming video. When I restored the house I live in , I got cables put in the walls and established a central crosspoint. Unfortunately I didn't consider this during a previous stage so no cabled connection in the livingroom :-( So when I got my first Duet I also went wireless. I used a laptop an netstumbler and it could see 10+ networks and their channels + signal strength. I picked the best channel (1 or 6 or 11) and this far no problems. Of course the SB3 is still G, but at least part of the network would be better Everything suffers from noise, even ethernet cables, it's all about the kind of noise and how it's managed. Cat5 etc. handles noise very well and is designed specifically for what it does, hence why it does it so well and is so reliable. Powerline Networking suffers from noise, but as the signal is confined to your homes circuit there is less chance of disruption from your neighbour. Wireless doesn't just suffer from noise and interference, there is congestion to contend with too. When you are transferring data between two devices over wireless you are sending to the access point then it is sending to the other device. So any bandwidth you do have is being halved straight away. Then you have cheap wireless access points and routers (even devices costing a lot can actually be cheap hardware with a nice shiny case) that struggle to maintain a broadband connection, DHCP, NAT, firewall, and multiple data streams at the same time. too much work and they will start dropping packets, this is bad when it comes to streaming audio nd video as once it's gone it's gone. When transferring a file the computers can always ask for a packet to be re-sent. here's another thought: how regularly are you doing these large file copies? Whenever I need to copy a bunch of data to or from my laptop I always hard wire it, simply because it is just so much faster to do it with gigabit ethernet compared to -any- form of wireless :) -- funkstar '[project log] funkstars digital lifestyle' (http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-lifestyle/179882-project-log-funkstars-digital-lifestyle.html) - 'hexus.community' (http://forums.hexus.net/) *in use:* *1*x touch, *1*x boom, *2*x sb3, *1*x controller *in a box:* *1*x radio, *1*x (beta) controller, *1*x receiver, *1*x sb2 wired (silver), *1*x sb (black), *1*x slimp3 (with rear shield) if you have any others, let me know, i'm interested!! funkstar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80802 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

However, in the default SbS web interface the plugin does show the All tracks entry. In iPeng this will be fixed in the upcoming iOS4 release although I'm not completely happy with the result (for technical reasons, it comes at the price of context menus and favorites handling). But it turns out the XMLBrowser interface the plugin has to use can be really hard to work with. Oh, and WebUI and Squeezeplay/CLI/iPeng/SC,... can never be compared, that's currently two completely different interfaces (to be harmonized in the onebrowser activity). And hopefully fix that XMLBrowser issue above on the way. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69352 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Even though I posted all those ablum art screen shots, I didn't vote for that in the pole. Rather, I think you're handling of album art is fine. Sure, a pure browse through album art feature would be cool. But for me more searching options are what I miss. So I voted for more search power. In fact, the killer app would be to use metadata NOT in the squeeze server, to assist with searching. I don't know the rules about making use of a source like all music or something, so that I could search for all RB from the 1960s and then get a list of the albums I have that fit that criteria according to AllMusic or something like that. Maybe freedb has that info, and could be the source. Dunno.
