Hi. After a bit investigation I see that artwork is available As long

thing REALLY bothers me. Selecting album list and scrolling down - it
takes way too long for the list to update making it quite difficult to
quickly find the album I want. In my opinion the album list should be
cached and ready for exploring immediately, a background process could
search for updates on the Squeeze Server (or perhaps on-demand
 updating).

Yes, caching will definitely be included in a future release.

It's already on the TODO list but there are some prerequisites that
need to be implemented first.

Please, please for the love of God, incorporate bookmarking or someway
to remember the playback position! I squeeze howard stern (4+hrs in one

store position information locally (ipad) so that when opening the file

I'd pay $7-9 for an ipad app that has this functionality. It simply

Personally I'd rather try to get a model with an LCD, I'm not at all
convinced about the AMOLEDs.
They intermix adjacent pixels causing a blurry effect that doesn't look

Maybe something like a new NowPlaying context menu Save current
Position that stores the trackId and the current position in a local
DB.

Next time, when you select the same track (=same trackId), iPeng could
automatically restore the old position.

This should work, shouldn't it?

A friend of mine has a HTC Desire and I played with it a bit.
It looked fine, but that was in the evening, without direct sunlight.

I'd prefer a Nexus One though, because I think it will receive the
fastest Android updates.

Unfortunately, I really NEED a new device, because my Hero has some
severe issues with the Touchscreen (the lower part does not work
anymore). I've already spoken to HTC and they told me that I should
send it in for repair but it will take around 2 weeks...

So the idea was to buy a new device and send in the Hero afterwards,
but nobody wants to sell me a Desire/NexusOne for a fair price. :-)

Maybe I should wait for the new Desire/NexusOne in a month or two,
when HTC has switched to Super-LCDs.

Sounds like they finished the production of the old model and that's why

Yes, that's the one thing I thought about, too.
But it would only work with that single controller and only until you

Also, using something like chapters would help but would probably also

Maybe I'm just using too many clients to honor a simple solution myself

Yeah, different controllers would be a problem. :-/
Clear Rescan should not happen very often, so I think it would be ok
if this would also clear the bookmarks.

SBS support (adding a NowPlaying context menu restoring the position
automatically) would be much better of course...

I looked at it, don't remember what the issue was, maybe really missing
CLI.

The perfect solution would scan m4b files (okokok...) and these mp3
files with chapters (don't know how it is done just that iPods can do
it, maybe it's some proprietary stuff).

Along with that I would just like a solution that can store
- the last position
- a number of named bookmarks for positions within a track
- request the last stored position and list of named bookmarks

All of this accessible through CLI.

One more thing that comes to mind but that I'm undecided about:
- an audiobook flag to tag a file as an audiobook. iTunes does this.
But given the tagging effort it might just be more simple to use the
genre as an indicator.

Hi ulvatne,

I just created an mp3-album which uses embedded Album Art only (using

I then did a full rescan of my database to clear the previous images.

This renders without a problem with SqueezePad, so I cannot reproduce
your problem.

If you can get me cometd-logs for your menu where album art is missing
today or tomorrow I might still be able to create a bugfix for the next

No, iTunes doesn't store it anywhere except in it's own library.
If you take the same files, copy them to another machine and scan them

Nice idea.
Skip when shuffling would apply to Random Mix and there you can

But I just get a few interesting ideas...

of other visible networks on the same channel as yours causing
interference. Or if there are a lot of other networks it might be
virtually impossible to get a clean signal, they all use the same
frequencies after all. This goes for cordless telephones and BlueTooth

This renders without a problem with SqueezePad, so I cannot reproduce

Is anyone else seeing this ?

If you can get me cometd-logs for your menu where album art is missing

Have you tried the obvious - insert the port number in your server's ip
adress, normally port no 9000. Touch the i icon bottom right and write
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9000 sjbstituring xx with servers ip-address.

Re: [slim] Listening breaks up when copying large files

not to speak about microwaves and other noisy appliances...

It is really astounding the amount of problems people have, when
thinking about the tiny amount of data needed for playing a tune.

I swear to cables as it just works!!! and I do not even have the need
for streaming video. When I restored the house I live in , I got cables
put in the walls and established a central crosspoint.
Unfortunately I didn't consider this during a previous stage so no
cabled connection in the livingroom :-(

So when I got my first Duet I also went wireless. I used a laptop an
netstumbler and it could see 10+ networks and their channels + signal
strength. I picked the best channel (1 or 6 or 11) and this far no
problems.

One should also consider the powerline option

Hi Tomphotofx - if you go to the WebUI, there to Information-Page on
the Settings-Screen you can find all information needed.

For instance with the screenshot below you should configure SqueezePad
to use 192.168.1.101:9000.

Though maybe a bit complicated you only have to do it once in your

that. I now use the Samsung Galaxy S which is just superb, screen is
quite good in sunlight, even out at sea in an open boat. And, already
the Galaxy S has picked up a really active community and even if there

Yes, but a digital camera has what, 12 megapixels, and then you can do
post-processing with the generated image, no post-processing between
the screen an my eyes just the one in my brain which says: blurry.

Everything suffers from noise, even ethernet cables, it's all about the
kind of noise and how it's managed. Cat5 etc. handles noise very well
and is designed specifically for what it does, hence why it does it so
well and is so reliable.

Powerline Networking suffers from noise, but as the signal is confined
to your homes circuit there is less chance of disruption from your
neighbour.

Wireless doesn't just suffer from noise and interference, there is
congestion to contend with too. When you are transferring data between
two devices over wireless you are sending to the access point then it
is sending to the other device. So any bandwidth you do have is being
halved straight away.

Then you have cheap wireless access points and routers (even devices
costing a lot can actually be cheap hardware with a nice shiny case)
that struggle to maintain a broadband connection, DHCP, NAT, firewall,
and multiple data streams at the same time. too much work and they will
start dropping packets, this is bad when it comes to streaming audio nd
video as once it's gone it's gone. When transferring a file the
computers can always ask for a packet to be re-sent.

I'm not trying to make excuses for your problems, just trying to
highlight the many variables that effect wireless networking :)

In iPeng this will be fixed in the upcoming iOS4 release although I'm

at the price of context menus and favorites handling). But it turns out
the XMLBrowser interface the plugin has to use can be really hard to
work with.

Oh, and WebUI and Squeezeplay/CLI/iPeng/SC,... can never be compared,
that's currently two completely different interfaces (to be harmonized
in the onebrowser activity). And hopefully fix that XMLBrowser issue

2010-07-31 Thread nathan_h

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80575

Question: Whats your highest priority ?

- More images of your music collection
- Playlist management
- Syncing Players Variation A
- Syncing Players Variation B
- MySqueezebox.com Integration
- TrackStat Ratings
- Caching of Album + Artist Lists
- Album Art Only Screen
- Better Search
- Something else - Please do the poll with different options !

Even though I posted all those ablum art screen shots, I didn't vote for
that in the pole. Rather, I think you're handling of album art is fine.
Sure, a pure browse through album art feature would be cool. But for
me more searching options are what I miss.

So I voted for more search power.

In fact, the killer app would be to use metadata NOT in the squeeze
server, to assist with searching. I don't know the rules about making
use of a source like all music or something, so that I could search for
all RB from the 1960s and then get a list of the albums I have that fit
that criteria according to AllMusic or something like that. Maybe
freedb has that info, and could be the source. Dunno.

I admit that's a huge bit of integration since it's not part of the
squeeze world already to draw on but one can dream!
