Zune may be the very best music service on the planet, and may be the
best value to boot, I dunno.
I do find it interesting that on most any forum related to streaming
music (here, Sonos, Amazon, AVS, etc..) there are always a number of
posts asking for Zune support on other systems.
Obviously many Zune users are looking for (but never finding) other
platforms to enjoy their Zune subscription, as is quite evident in this

Thanks for this info. I have already found some disc number

Re: [slim] Albums show up twice

2011-05-29 Thread aubuti

If all your files are MP3, then delete all your ID3v1 tags, and keep
only ID3v2. You can do it pretty easily with mp3tag, but it's not very
intuitive for a lot of people. At least it wasn't for me. See the wiki
article in the Beginner's Guide
(http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Mp3tagGuide).

Also, be sure to follow the usual rules for mass tagging operations,
namely (1) be sure you have an up-to-date backup of your files, and (2)
test the operations on a few files to make sure you are getting the
results you want before you unleash mp3tag on the whole library. mp3tag
is very powerful, meaning you can accomplish a lot -- both good and bad
-- with just a few keystrokes and mouse clicks.

[slim] Newb: How do I synchronize internet radio in two parts of the house?

2011-05-29 Thread Amidala

I just installed a SqueezeBox Touch and it now plays internet radio in
our kitchen, hooked up to powered speakers. I also want to be able to
listen to the same radio on our home entertainment system, which has a
laptop computer installed on it. This laptop also has our music
collection and the SqueezeBox server.

Here is what I have tried:

1. Install SoftSqueeze on the laptop and synchronize both players via
server. Result: SqueezeBox touch stops periodically to buffer. Players
are not in sync.

2. Just play the internet radio station directly on the laptop.
Results: Players are not in sync.

What's the best way of doing this? This is my first experience with
SqueezeBox and I'm a bit disappointed.

A wired laptop may help the buffering issue.
Software players cannot accurately Sync with other players, there will
almost always be drift in the Sync.
Two hardware players will have very tight and accurate Sync using SBS

No, just power cycle your Touch and you should be OK.

You can also run two servers at the same time, switching from one to
the other using the Touch's menu. I think it's under Advanced
settings. The option is called Choose library or Choose server or
something like that.

With my (NOT Touch) players, it works better to switch the players from

short, don't uninstall SBS on the old server until you change the

[slim] Squeezebox Classic frequent WiFi disconnects

2011-05-29 Thread Tozz

I have 3 Squeezebox'es in my home, a classic, Duet and a Boom. All are
using wireless connections using a Cisco Aironet 1140 Accesspoint.

Since some time my SB Classic frequently disconnects. When playing an
MP3 or stream the music stops after about 10 seconds because it needs
to reconnect to the network. After about 2 to 5 tries where the music
stops every 10 sceonds the device gives up and stops playing. When I
connect the device to the network using a cable the device works fine.
So it has something to do with the wireless connection.

As far as I know nothing has changed on my network, nor has my devices
been moved. My other squeezeboxes work fine, so I dont think it is a
WiFi problem. All I can think of is a firmware upgrade since the
latest squeezeserver.

Anybody else with the same problem?

Not much consolation, but I find SqueezeCommander easier to use than

http://www.netmite.com/android/mydroid/system/extras/sound/playwav.c
(pcm_play).

On the other hand alsa does support file output but I could not get it
working with my static portaudio/alsa built. My .asoundrc looks like:

pcm.file {
type file;
format PCM;
file /dev/msm_pcm_out;
slave.pcm /dev/msm_pcm_out;
}

Thanks again for your excellent squeezeslave.

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2011-05-29 Thread bluegaspode

Hi Mnyb,
I wanted to spare buttons, that are not needed in everyday usage (if at
all) for a normal user, to have a cleaner interface.

How often do you change the Shuffle or Repeat mode in reality?
What circumstances make you change these settings?

And who said that I wanted to emulate SqueezePlay devices as close as I
could?
I only wanted to keep the menus(!) the same so that new users can adopt
more easily and users with multiple devices don't have to think in
different menu paradigms when operating their devices and SqueezePad
alternating.

Everything outside the menu is just about easy, intuitive and fast
operation and open to suggestions :)

[slim] Music IP: MMM.INI Question

2011-05-29 Thread fairyliquidizer

Sorry I couldn't decide the right forum for this. I think Music IP is a
Logitech plugin so here I am :)

Question... What does the CPU= line do? I have always had CPU=0 but I
notice many people seam to be using CPU=2. Is this a priority or a
number of cores? Does anyone know how the scale works?

Thanks,
Fairy

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2011-05-29 Thread bluegaspode

For anyone interested:

I just finished my final chapter about securing the remote connection
via a SSH tunnel.
http://www.squeezeplayer.com/2011/05/3g-part-5-secure-your-communication-channel/

I'm very interested if the way described is working for you (and the
instructions are good enough).
But be aware - for this way to work you need to have

- a linux based Squeezebox-Server, that can be reached with SSH
(windows/mac should work as well, but don't come with SSH access out of
the box)
- a rooted Android phone/tablet to make the needed App 'SqueezeTunnel'
work.

I do know that these prerequisites may be already too high for
some/most(?) people - on the other hand this was the most easiest way I
could find to have a real secure solution.
All other options I am aware of (like setting up a VPN) are much more
complicated (and would need a rooted device as well).

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Classic frequent WiFi disconnects

Is this an SB3? Please paste the result of settings/information

If you don't know how to do this, type back so we can help.

[slim] Easy Mute for Squeezebox Server, or a Synchronization Group

2011-05-29 Thread ja2038

I use Squeezebox Server on Windows, and listen to it with a Squeezebox
Boom and one or more Squeezeplay players.

There are semi-frequent occasions when I just want to mute everything.

And I want a mute, not a pause.

I listen to Internet radio a lot, and I notice that pause does seem to
pause and buffer, and what I want is mute, because, I DON'T WANT TO
HEAR ANOTHER CLICKET OR TICKET advertisement.

I usually control the whole setup from a web browser, and it seems my
choices are:

1) Pause/buffer/resume -- not what I want
2) Stop/.../Restart -- which is not the greatest because the restart is
sometimes problematical, it doesn't always restart, and it is slow as
well, as it has to refill its buffers.

What I would like is a mute, keep on streaming just quickly set volume
to zero, and an unmute.

And it would be great if it were available from the system tray.

So ... is there a mute function?

What is the easiest way to access it?

When I press pause on my server, or on my SB remote, what actually
occurs? Is it buffering? How much time needs to elapse between it
trying to buffer, and it skipping the buffering and muting or stopping
the stream?

Re: [slim] How do I switch server location from one computer to another?

2011-05-29 Thread JJZolx

It should work either way, so don't worry about it. If you shut down the
old server before switching servers on the Touch then when you enter My
Music it will search for the old server, time out after about 10
seconds, and give you a choice to change servers.

I don't think you'll get an opportunity to switch via the 'Switch
Library' menu item that kidstypike shows above unless you have both
servers running at same time, as pski advises.

I find the Android App, Squeeze Commander to be the easiest way to

Re: [slim] Easy Mute for Squeezebox Server, or a Synchronization Group

2011-05-29 Thread aubuti

If you're controlling it from the SBS web interface then it seems to me
that the quickest way would be to use the volume control on the SBS
screen (the one with 11 volume bars, on the upper right part of the
screen). Clicking on the far left one will get you to either 0 or 1
(out of 11). Your normal volume should be in the 8-11 range (ie, set
SBS volume high and fine tune the output volume via your pre-amp), so
even if the left bar is 1 that will give you plenty of mute.

Note that if this is to work for all your sync'd players then you will
have to set SBS to sync the (SBS) volume on all the players in your
sync group.

Re: [slim] Albums show up twice

2011-05-29 Thread aubuti

As to why they can't be written, could you describe your setup? For
example, are you running SBS on a pc or a NAS, is the music library on
the same computer/NAS or on a different drive, what OS are you using,
etc. Normally I would expect 'cannot be opened for writing' to be
either that the file was in use, or you didn't have sufficient
permissions to write to that file.

Are these files you ripped yourself?
