I know it's considerably off the main topic of this post (android) but I've been really happy with 'Squeeze Control' on my Palm Pre 2 phone. The exhibition mode while on the touchstone charger is rather nice. I am sure that the phone and tablet are still available. Here is a link to the screen shots: http://angrygoatapps.com/screenshots.html In the latest round (Verizon) new every 2 contract I was faced with jumping to Android or picking up the Pre 2 for free (essentially). I went with the Pre for $$ reasons. The open source (WebOS)community has been great and there are ample apps. On the Anrdoid side, my wife has the Motorola Atrix 2 and is quite happy with it. The multimedia dock works well as well as the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Android tablet (and other tablet) screen resolutions are reportedly going to increase in the next 6 months and would likely play havoc with any arrangement of squeezebox control applications. Re: [slim] New Logitech MM STREAM Squeezebox Touch spotted !!
Phil Leigh;435751 Wrote: I probably didn't explain this very well... I meant 10 inch diagonal touch screen so I could run something like the web UI (and also browse the net). The device would detach from a base station that was also a charger and had all the audio gubbins it. The base would connect to the hi-fi. The tablet could be used docked in the base or on my lap/around the house. At least this way I could actually see what was on the screen! I don't need it to be an audio player - just a control interface. However, I guess others would want a player capability via headphones or a line-out. The tablet would talk to the base via wi-fi (unless docked when they would talk directly). The base would have the ability to run SC internally and connect to USB disks etc - or to connect via wi-fi/ethernet to a traditional external SC server. The ability to use the tablet screen as a basic photo frame/ image browser/ video player would be excellent. One advantage of a tablet sized device is bigger batteries. Having an integral carrying handle that could double as a table stand or retract completely would be neat. It doesn't have to be 10 inches - but at least 7. The real icing on the cake would be the ability to open a thin-client remote control interface onto a host SC PC so that ripping, tagging etc could be managed remotely if required. The server PC could then be headless. I'm starting to wonder how close I could get to this with available tablet technologies and the current SB range? Phil, Archos makes a number of tablet based devices. I have a 605 WiFI that displays the Nokia770 skin quite well. [slim] FLAC -DRM Free Music
I have purchased a few songs (MP3s) from Amazon in the past but usually balk getting a lossy copy of a song. ~99.5% of my collection is FLAC ripped from my CD collection. I thought I'd post a note about my purchase experience of a FLAC album through Nettwerk Record's Store (http://www.werkshop.com/store/home.action). I decided to purchase the FLAC edition of Sarah McLachlan's Rarities, B-Sides and Other Stuff - Volume 2 released in April 08. $10.99 (US Dollar) For this album the site had track samples via real audio and the ability to purchase individual mp3 tracks but alas not individual FLAC tracks. I was really interested in picking up her cover of the Beatles Blackbird (also in the I Am Sam movie soundtrack). With only a few of the songs of little interest to me I made the purchase. The ZIP file download was quick enough (~650MB). The FLAC songs file names were not to my liking but were easily changed. What really surprised me was the lack of TAGs. This was readily corrected via foobar2000's freedb tagger. With the files/songs properly tagged I rescanned and all was well. The album sounds fantastic (not that I could really tell the difference between a FLAC and a ~160kb mp3). I prefer the FLAC so I can transcode those files/songs to play on other devices/media (CD-Rs for the car, SD card for my palm). I love that Nettwerk provides access to the majority of their artists via their own store. Overall the experience was painless. Obviously the files need to be properly tagged before they can be picked up by SqueezeCenter. One just has to make that part of the process just like you would with a ripped CD. -- bobharp Bob Harper bobharp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=600 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47931 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Spousal aesthetic sensibilities are also a factor. Hey bobharp, please do put together a review and post it, I would appreciate hearing how the Proficient Audio compare to the Polks. Are the Polks staying in your old place? I ask because if you're interested in selling them I'm just down the road from you (Takoma Park). Funny that Takoma Park. How is the nuclear free zone? I have a pair of Polk RC60i speakers in my kitchen now. Love them. Moving very soon to a new house and put in Proficient Audio (http://proficientaudio.com/) PFC640s (~$150/pair). Use any web enabled devices to control it. TechHome Define cheap? Are you talking about a new home install (bare studs) or fishing behind drywall? Decent ceiling and wall speakers (depending if you are an audiophile or not) can run $150 to $200/pair. awy;192429 Wrote: How about an update on the progress of your project? I started out with just SoftSqueeze and now have bought a pair of SliMP3s; one in the lounge connected to the main amp/speakers, the other in the (adjacent) kitchen. The one in the lounge was because, good though it is and just fine for background music or internet radio (the main use), the remote PC/sound-card/CAT5e/main-amp solution was not quite good enough for serious music listening. Since having the SliMP3 in place, we have come to appreciate the use of the remote, even though a laptop from which the web interface can be used (or, more often, SlimRemote), is usually to hand. The kitchen SliMP3 has been built into the boarding above the cupboards and looks great, with a pair of really cheap PC speakers behind the ventialation grill elsewhere in the boarding, and with a wireless ethernet bridge (all parts from eBay or the office for-sale board). In this case the motivation was the impracticality of getting any wiring to the kitchen. But again, we find the availability of the display and the remote are really nice. Now the real problem is keeping synchronization with the lounge - I am working on this (see posts elsewhere in this forum) - but the multiple-channels-from-a-single-SoftSqueeze approach that I outlined above would eliminate this problem (except that I have the wiring problem). I intend to keep the faith with SoftSqueeze elsewhere: basement TV/play room, laundry room and probably the cellar/workshop; all from the same single sound card and using various qualities of PC/powered speakers. But for the bedroom I definitely want a wireless SB so that it can be controlled with the remote. Alan. While I have had rare issues with syncing my music between my SB2, syncing internet radio is another story. As diagramed here (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=103076postcount=2) my den SB2 and multi-zone kitchen speakers are within earshot of each other. It is dead on while playing my music. Softsqueeze has never been reliable enough for my entourage. I will be moving soon and will try to update my diagrams and costs involved in pimping out the new house with mix of Squeezebox and Russound audio devices. -- bobharp Bob Harper bobharp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=600 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22860 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
