Can you see whether the time the progress bar is shown under Albums coincides with the delays? As is true so often: upgrading to 7.6 beta would probably help, it has an optimized albums query that is much, much faster. The problem with the old one is that for some reason it was very inefficient in retrieving artists together with albums which is what iPeng does. 10,000 albums is quite a number. I've seen a library with 40.000 albums sync in around five minutes even on older server versions but that was using a very fast server. Ok. I checked the status indicator under Albums and sure enough it correlates with the unresponsiveness of the app. However, perhaps I was inpatient and may have turned the iPad off or it turned itself off during the sync process. I timed it this morning at 8 minutes instead of the estimates above. However, waiting 8 minutes for the first use FEELS like an hour. I'm tempted to get a faster server, maybe one with an i3 processor. Any other ideas? Great app. However, I'm still having performance issues and lately, crashes. I have 100 CDs in the new music list, and it takes a very long period of time for the thumbnails to appear with album art. How long? That's unclear because I haven't sat down long enough to time it. I have checked your website regarding performance and the only think I have not done is upgrade to 7.6 beta. Also when I touch and hold a CD in that list, I get the menu to play the album or add it to the playlist; however, I have to tap each command twice to get that command done. I just upgraded to iOS 4.2, and iPeng has started crashing quite a bit. I will activate it from the running tasks and when I attempt to perform a function, such as that above, it will simply disappear; however, the icon in the iPad running taskbar is still present. By the way, I didn't restore my apps onto 4.2; I reinstalled everything fresh, app by app. Anyway, I love the app. I just wish it performed better and wasn't so crashy lately. -- jimzak http://zzzone.net http://have-a-nice-day.org http://www.last.fm/user/zzzoneDOTnet http://somethingsomethingsomething.net 'Library' (http://zzzone.net/photo/2009/music1.jpg) Ripper: dBpoweramp Router: Lynksys WRT54GL Server: SBS 7.5.1 - Atom-based nettop - Win XP SP3 Player: 2 Booms, 1 Radio, 1 Touch with a Controller Control: 1 extra controller, 1 iPod Touch w/iPeng, 1 iPad w/iPeng for iPad SqueezePad Files: 81,000+ FLAC/MP3 files - 2TB external HD x 2 jimzak's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17592 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82681 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Problem: Skipping Effect Heard During Flac Playback
I was listening to some flac files I downloaded the other day from the 11 disc reissue of John Lennon's CDs. During the Imagine CD, I thought I detected a skipping sound, identical to a CD which is skipping slightly but continuing to play. I thought that whoever had ripped the CDs had had a faulty CD player. Well just now, I was playing the reissue of David Bowie's Station To Station CD (now a multidisc set) and I heard the same glitch. Yes. I guess that was my poorly expressed point: 1. Less availability means lower sales 2. [slim] Another Catastrophic SB Failure
Well, catastrophic for me anyway... My Linksys WRT54GL router failed early this week. I just got a replacement. I am using the Linksys firmware. I have just spent 4 hours trying to get my system back up, and I can only get one Boom playing. I'm running the SB system in my signature. My router has the same SSID and password as the old one. I have set wireless security settings through many permutations. The setting with which I get the one Boom to connect is with WPA-Personal (TKIP). However, the Radio, the other Boom, and the Duet report WPA2-PSK encryption when I run the Diagnostics selection. I cannot figure out how to make them aware of the new encryption. Although I am a faithful SB fan, I am beginning to see why Sonos is attractive. I have wasted a beautiful Saturday morning on something that should take 20 mins. Can anyone give me some guidance? Okay. So I reset the encryption on the router to WPA2-Personal (TKAP+AES). I also set the router wireless network mode to G-only. Re: [slim] SqueezeBox fan, quick Sonos pro/cons?
The main thing for me is as stated by the first poster: size of music collection. My digital music collection is just slightly under 50,000 files right now and growing. Re: [slim] Portable FLAC Players
I have had a Cowon X5 30 GB hard drive-based playerfor sometime. It sound good and I found a nice third party case and arm band for the gym. However, the battery runs down quickly playing .flac. Unfortunately I had to have it serviced for a headphone jack that became unstable and that cost $45 plus shipping one way. Now the battery charge life is down to about one use and I'll need to send it in for the $45 battery change. So I got a Sansa Fuze which is solid state. It's only 8 GB but it takes a 16 GB microSD card to expand it to 24 GB which is nice for .flac and very nice for .mp3. The battery life is much better and the cost of the player is less than the service I've had to pay for the Cowon. The sound is not quite as good but it's smaller and the user interface is better. I have actually transcoded a lot of .flac to .mp3 for the player and have about 1000 songs on it. Cowon is a nice piece of kit but the battery change issues on all their devices holds me back. If I was going to get another Cowon, I might get the 32 GB O2 flash-based player which accepts expansion SD cards, but I'd have to prepare myself for the inevitable expensive battery change. http://www.amazon.com/Cowon-Video-MP3-Player-White/dp/B001IWN9LQ/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8s=electronicsqid=1248550205sr=8-7 -- jimzak http://zzzone.net http://have-a-nice-day.org http://www.last.fm/user/zzzoneDOTnet jimzak's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17592 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65861 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] File Deficit after Reloading SqueezeCenter
My Vista SqueezeCenter server is a slim-profile, energy efficient HP machine in my homerun closet. Its nearly sole use is to serve my music files to 2 Booms and a Duet. However, over the past month it has started to lock up more and more frequently. So yesterday I rolled it back via the Windows restore function by a month. However, it continued to lock up so I uninstalled and reinstalled SqueezeCenter 7.3.2 or whatever the latest release is. I also moved all the music off the C-drive onto one of the 2 external hard drives prior to the roll-back. I have about a terrabyte of .flac files on those hard drives now. However, I noticed that the song or file count in SqueezeCenter decreased by 6000-7000 files. I checked the folder that SqueezeCenter scans and it contains valid shortcuts to all the music and yes, I did a total rescan when I reinstalled SC. I browsed to the folders in question via SC also. So clearly SC is recognizing the folders in question: F:\music K:\music K:\music3 I did a file count in the folders in question and came up with over 40,000 but there are graphics files, some .cue files, and some .log files as well as a few others. current file count per SqueezeCenter: 32,000+ current file count per Windows explorer: 40,000+ file count per SqueezeCenter prior to reinstall: 42,000+ Was the pre-reinstall file count erroneous and contributing to the unstable behavior? Most of my music files are .flac but there are also .mp3 and .ape files. Any thoughts? Thanks. -- jimzak http://zzzone.net http://have-a-nice-day.org http://www.last.fm/user/zzzoneDOTnet jimzak's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17592 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64443 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Well, I decided to answer my own question: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=r2dc31r_KbedOT-GSU_gT3woutput=html That page shows all the files and their distribution and totals. Apparently (?) [slim] last.fm setup
Okay. Is there an exact procedure for setting up one's last.fm account to be scrobbled by SqueezeCenter detailed somewhere? Here's what I have done, yet my last.fm account is not being scrobbled: 1. I setup a last.fm account on the last.fm website (zzzoneDOTnet) 2. I went to www.squeezenetwork.com and setup each of my players (a duet and two booms) to send data to my last.fm account (I did not check the box to the left of my account on the last.fm tab of the squeezenetwork.com page). On that tab it now says zzzonedotnet (Authorized for Last.fm Radio) 3. I also installed the Audioscrobbler plugin to my SqeezeCenter computer (Vista) but I'm not sure if that is necessary. It does not seem to recognize SqeezeCenter as a player. When I go to my last.fm account under settings applications, it indicates that Logitech SqueezeNetwork has access to my account. Still, no scrobbling is happening. What critical step have I omitted? Suddenly while listening to music this morning, the sound went out on both my Boom and Duet which were synchronized with the 7.3 upgrade since yesterday.
