Pippin the SN handling of Napster is brilliant, browsing my Napster library is just like having a SC library. However one small thing when I am creating a playlist I often change the add item icon (which is defaulted to play) to add and then just hold to add to the playlist. However when I go back to artists it defaults back to play. Would it be possible to leave it as add until I change it back to play myself? Any thoughts is welcome! $370 for 1 controller, are you sure? that sounds very expensive, I didn't pay that much for my Duet here in the UK. I have 2 controllers and 1 iPhone and have been on the beta test for iSqueeze (Squeemote). To be honest I have been frustrated with the controllers, the wifi reception is poor and they always seem to lose their connection to the server. Also I find the wheel inferior to using the touchscreen. Using my iPhone is a real joy, it's quick responsive and squeemote (and I guess iPeng) is designed like the iPod player so is real easy to use. Somethings are missing from Squeemote such as a random playlist option, access to LastFM but I believe Luke has added (is adding?) these to the final release. The application is also prone to crashing occasionally but it doesn't take long to reload. I have been amazed that relatively obscure bands like Spirit of the West and Ned's Atomic Dustbin are well catered for on Spotify. Having played with it I would say the radio is not as good as LastFM, it doesn't have the same quality although it does play a lot more stuff by the artist you have selected i.e. SOTW radio played 95% SOTW songs (however they included the Pogues as well which I *hate* ) And yes I do have one beta slot left, if you want it then PM me on here with your e-mail addy and I will send you one. Spotify will, if it continues to deliver such a great experience as it currently does, revolutionize the way we access and listen to music! Its like Joost but for music, with outstanding performance and without the stupid geographic restrictions the video service has. Basically, its an iTunes-like interface where you can listen to radio adapted to what decade and music type your like, or, and this is what really blows me away, search for any song or artist you want to hear, and it is immediately streamed to you! Then you can also create playlists of any songs you like. Just imagine the power of having any music you want to listen to just by your fingertips, without the need of transferring it to each and every computer where you want to listen to it. Re: [slim] Wireless N?
I recently moved to a "Eco" house which was made using SIPS from Kingspan, a kind of new insulation material. Whilst my house is toasty warm it also stopped my old G network reaching all the rooms. Changing to a N router has solved that problem although it is still weak on the ground floor (router on 3rd floor). So for me it was essential, it's a Netgear DG384N and it's been very stable and basically all round brilliant. I note they have released a V2 of the same router, not sure why, it's not firmware comptable (why didn't they just change the number) and not sure what difference it makes. After a longer testing period I am still really impressed. This is just what the SBC should have been like, fast, responsive and easy to use. I have virgin media broadband(Manchester UK) and all I have ever had to do is plug in the cable modem into the router, no additional settings have ever been required. If the router says it is connected to the internet then it sounds like there is something wrong at the computers end, have you ensured that the computer is connecting correctly. What security settings do you have on the router (WPA/WEP?). Funnily enough yesterday morning after returning from holiday I had exactly the same problem (i.e. router says it was connected to internet but the computer wouldn't connect). It resolved its self in about 30mins and I put it down to a VM glitch. -- mattybain '[image: http://imagegen.last.fm/recenttracks3/recenttracks/MattyBain.gif]' (http://www.last.fm/user/MattyBain/?chartstyle=recenttracks3) mattybain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41964 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

You simply need to go the www.maemo.org website, find rdesktop click on install and then run the program. You enter the ip address of your server, user name and password (for the remote computer) and your domain name (which is MSHOME if you use the standard windows address) and voila you should see your desktop and be able to run Moose. Couple of things you should probably be aware of - firstly the good Dr Lovegrove is making some changes to enable it to be better viewed on Moose (mainly that the frames remember there sizes when you restart, annoying when you have resized it perfectly for the N800 screen just to lose it again when you restart) - I don't know how to right click using rdesktop and for me single clicking has the habit of registering as a double click, this makes it hard to click and point when selecting items in the library. However the Dr has made it so the arrow keys scroll through the options up and down and the artist/album/song frames left and right - You can run Moose in fullscreen which enables you to view more - You can resize the fonts so that you can fit more on the N800 screen If you need any more help with general use then I am happy to help, if you have any useability imporvements then if you ask on the 3rd Party Plugins forum the good Dr usually does everything he can to accomodate the suggestions. Re: [slim] Logitech being absolutely OTT ?!
But the point is that you used to be able to order it direct from the SD website and it would cost you around $2,500 including postage and VAT (there is no duty to pay in the UK) which is around £1,250. The UK suppliers used to charge £1,300 which seems reasonable based on these numbers. Logitech have now stopped direct ordering from the US and you are forced to order via their website. Despite the £ getting even stronger against the $ the new price is £1,700, a £400 or 30% increase. My understanding is that all the UK retailers will also be increasing their prices to a similar level. As other people have pointed out there are several other Logitech devices which have an even more bizarre European mark up with one product having a 150% mark-up. Well sorry, but I for one will not buy from a company that treats their customers like this. It is a shame as I was looking at purchasing a new Transporter and SB3s and will certainly no longer be recommending them to my friends. Also the Amazon price increase remains, it starts looking less of a glitch and something a little more permanent. Everyone at Logitech seem very quiet on this subject, there has been no explanation as to why they feel justified in increasing these prices. Interestingly Sonos have a much more reasonable mark-up and the AppleTV even seems to have no mark-up at all. -- mattybain '[image: http://imagegen.last.fm/recenttracks3/recenttracks/MattyBain.gif]' (http://www.last.fm/user/MattyBain/?chartstyle=recenttracks3) mattybain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37308 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Who else is planning on taking advantage of the weak US dollar to make a purchase of a shiny new transporter? Rates seem to be heading for $2:£1 which will be great for us Brits thinkng of making the plunge. Does the weak dollar have a longer term impact of potentially higher prices for the transporter as raw material costs rise? or are most of the components US sourced? I think Moose could do this very well, all that would need to be done is to have a party mode which would disable all the options (like FW RW and Pause) and only allow the browsing of the library and adding of tracks. [slim] Re: LastFM or Pandora - which do you prefer?
A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27920 Question: I've tried both lastFM/Slimscrobbler and Pandora, and for me: - Pandora is more likely to generate new (to me) music I enjoy - LastFM is more likely to generate new (to me) music I enjoy - They are both equally good in their own way - I'm not very impressed with either of them LastFM everytime, I have been signed up for about 12 months now and my personal radio is amazing. Sometimes I have to pinch myself that it isn't one of my playlists, that is until it plays some new music which is usually good. That is what I like about it just the right mix of music you love and new stuff you will like. I find the playing other songs that people who like your music much more realiable than Pandora's genome project. But that is just my personal pref. LastFM does take some time before it really starts to know what you like. -- mattybain '[image: http://imagegen.last.fm/recenttracks3/recenttracks/MattyBain.gif]' (http://www.last.fm/user/MattyBain/?chartstyle=recenttracks3) mattybain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27920 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Wake-on-LAN" again
I have a windows server on which I use the WOL feature. My server is set to go into standby after half an hour of inactivity or at 12pm every night (which is usually okay if not just press power on the SB and everything is sweet again). To enable a set shutdown time and for those times when I just need to switch off immediately remotely I use PowerOff. http://www.tucows.com/preview/195837 I have never had a problem with my computer staying either on or off standby it just seems to work as intended. It has been even better with the recent releases of SlimServer and the latest firmware. Windows MediaCenter also seems to take the computer out of standby for recordings and place it neatly back in standby when it is done.
