Re: [slim] Mip: R.i.p?

2014-01-20 Thread schiegl

I was able to get the GUI (MusicIP Mixer) working again after i created
a localhost (127.0.0.1) entry for music.predixis.com in my W7 hosts
file. After scanning the songs, the fingerprint is going to be stored in
the files and the headless version (which is used as backend for my
squeeze stuff) is then able to pick up the imprinted tracks. I was not
able to get genpuid running again using this method.

I've asked this a long time ago and lost hope also a long time ago. I
went the way to auto-convert my flac-library to mp3 (already was in

Involves a few extra steps but i can't imagine a better solution today

2011-01-28 Thread schiegl

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85135

Question: Which of these iPeng enhancements would be most important for
you?

- Non-Swipe Now-Playing UI for iPhone
- SqueezePlay-like menu operation
- Main Player controls permanently available instead of shortcut bar
- Smaller and lower resolution artwork
- New Main Screen UI for iPad
- Advanced Synchronization
- Additional Functionality (please elaborate)

OK, the main task for now - preparing a playback for iPeng - is done and
waiting Apple's approval so I want to follow bluegaspode's example and
ask users for opinions on a few new developments for iPeng.

This is good news!

Now i'm thinking outside the box:

dream-mode
What if playback is expanded to support an offline mode? (like some
browsers do with websites)? All my music is located on a single server
and is accessible through different devices BUT ONLY if there's a
stable connection to the central SBS (same applies to MySB).

If i want to access music when i'm going to be offline, i have to plan
ahead:
- convert the songs to mp3 in case they're in flac format
- import into iTunes
- Sync to iPhone

In my dream i'm sitting on the couch, browsing my music with iPeng
and from time to time i select a song or album as save for later.
iPeng then connects to the SBS (which automatically transcodes to mp3)
and saves the songs to the device ready for the next day, so i can
listen while traveling without any connection to my server...
/dream-mode

Even without dreaming iPeng is just one great piece of an app and
interface to my music library. Love it!

You should take a look at the running process and its parameters to see

You could also exec this command manually and redirect the output to a

Re: [slim] rebuffering failed

do you remember more details?
- What was playing (local music, internet music, etc.)
- What devices do you have and how they are connected (SqueezeBox(en)?
WLAN/Ethernet, ...)
- Anything else unusual to report (server lockup?)

Has this happened before?

Usually the SB tries to continuously rebuffer data if the stream
aborts, but if it fails you'll see the message rebuffering failed.
PressHold power on your remote to power cycle the SB. I ran into the
same problem many months ago. Reproducing this error became more and
more difficult though and the error finally disappeared about two
months ago...

Re: [slim] Can I use the Controller and classic remote with SB3 interchangeably?

2008-12-10 Thread schiegl

Rick,

yes you can -

but keep in mind there are some(*) tasks you'll require the classic
remote.

I sometimes use all three control channels (web, remote SBC) almost
simultaneously without problems. Most single-click actions (pause,
play, next, prev, etc.) have _no_ timing problem and are propagated
throughout the system immediately.
A few other actions (seeking through a song, loading a new playlist)
executed on the WebUI or the classic remote will take a few seconds
until the controller is been updated with this information.

(*). e.g. firmware upgrades of the SB3 require presshold brightness
(unless you configured it to do auto upgrades) and some functions and
plugins (like the lazysearch you mentioned) are available through the
Player-UI only and therefore need the classic remote for control.

I think this should not happen. I tested a 24/88.2khz flac track on a

under More Info: Bitrate 2520 kbps VBR (Converted to 705kbps ABR).

You must not have bitrate limiting enabled under SC-Settings. This
downsampling/transcoding happens without manual configuration on the

Re: [slim] 96/24 Support for SqueezeBox 3

2008-11-23 Thread schiegl

hmm...when i played with downsampling i set player.source=debug (as you
did already) and copied the command which eventually will be executed
to the windows command line:

(a guess, you need to find this string in your logfile)

Code:

  C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~1\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\flac.exe -dcs --
E:\CAROLK~1\NICEWO~1\01-NIC~1.FLA |
C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~1\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\sox.exe -t wav - -t
flac - rate 44100 sample.flac

This should create a file sample.flac in your current working
directory. I verified this file in foobar that it plays ok and then
used the found string in convert.conf. Maybe this command will show why
downsampling doesn't work on your side yet.

I must admit that i don't have much experience with SC running on
windows, so you may need to tweak it on one side or the other...

I don't know why your DAC doesn't recognize the signal, but you don't
need to set the bitrate limiting option (you may set the LAME quality
level). Resampling will be triggered automatically if your input
sampling rate is higher than 48khz AND the destination player is NOT a

Can you see if SC starts any processes? (flac, lame)

Example working custom-strings.txt for english only :-)

Hi,

open strings.txt and find the string you'd like to rename and it's

Now create another file called custom-strings in the same directory

[slim] craddle/case/silicon-skin/etc. for the controller?

2008-10-26 Thread schiegl

Hi,

with audio playback comming the SBC will extend it's range and leave
the neighborhood of my Slim Players and become one itself. So some sort
of case would be really handy. Additional craddles would be handy too,
so i can place a few around the house.

Do you (Slimdevices/Logitech) have any plans for such accessories? And
please don't forget us in europe :-)

May a suggest another route? Let SC do the hard work of scanning and

Re: [slim] MusicIP implementation - bit odd?

Hi,

would this pseudo function meet all (listed) requirements?

Code:

  request_mip_mix(seed-track/album/genre)

  if (seed-track/album/genre = playing)
  number-of-tracks-to-request=n+1
  call-mip-api
  remove-first-track-from-response
  else
  number-of-tracks-to-request=n
  call-mip-api

  if (option=play immediately)
replace playlist with mix, start playing
  if (option=append to playlist)
  append mix to player-playlist
  else (option=preview mix)
preview mix as normal-playlist (the same as it's now)

I agree that adding more options is not desirable. But i think you
cannot decide - based on context only - which of those opposing
functions like preview-first and play immediately to choose.

Seb, just to get your idea: When do you want to use the play/add keys?
On the previously created Mix:-playlist (presshold the play key on
the remote, Create MusicIP Mix on the controller or the M-Icon in the
webinterface) or somewhere before?

It is my understanding we have two different issues
- playing a mix requires two actions (create mix + play/add mix)
- the seed-song should not be part of the mix if it's already playing

Am i wrong?

I think the second one should be easier to solve than the first one...

Re: [slim] MusicIP implementation - bit odd?

2008-08-31 Thread schiegl

Hi,

I basically use two ways to create MIP mixes:
1.) I'm listening to a track and want more of this = create MIP mix
2.) I'm either browsing the current playlist or generally surfing
through my library when i find a track/album i want to hear/use as
starting point = create a MIP mix

In the first case i agree that it's annoying to hear the same track
again, but in my other use case this isn't true and i don't want to
miss the start.
I'd also like to see the mix before it's added to the playlist, just to
be sure it meets my taste. If it doesn't i create another mix...

I mainly use the Webinterface/Controller for the initial listening
setup so it's easier to look ahead (use case 2). When using the Player
UI only, i'm reverting to the first approach...

kind regards,
Markus

Re: [slim] Understanding Replay Gain

2008-08-21 Thread schiegl

bobkoure;331237 Wrote:
Anyone know for sure how to turn RG-adjustment off for -sure- when
 listening album-by-album?
I listen to MusicIP mixes a lot - and RG's a godsend for mixes. But,
when I'm listening to an entire album, I'm oft-times listening
critically and want any volume adjustment -off-.
It seems like this is what smart gain does, but maybe not.
What happens if there are no RG-album tags? Is RG-adjustment then based
on the track tags? Not what I want. What if I just write 0 to the
RG-album tags? The album adjustment isn't used at all in mixes, is it?
 Thanks!

This piece of code from ReplayGain.pm is responsible for smartgain (and
similar applies to smart-crossfade)

Code:

  if (defined $album-replay_gain()  ($class-trackAlbumMatch($client, -1) ||
$class-trackAlbumMatch($client, 1))) {
  return $album-replay_gain();
  }
  return $track-replay_gain();

1. Check if album-rg is set, if not use track-gain. Therefore always
use album-rg if you intend to use smartgain. You should set it to
+0.0db otherwise trackgain will be used, which is probably wrong.

2. Check if the previous OR the following title is from the same album.
If it is, use album-rg otherwise use track-rg. It has nothing to do with
how many tracks from the same album are in your playlist, just what
comes next or what was before.

kind regards,
Markus

Re: [slim] Where is the Controller firmware located now?

2008-08-03 Thread schiegl

Hi,

This is the address (or the one a few lines below) SC queries for new
SBC images. Sometimes when there's a new SC version number the
appropriate directory doesn't exist on the update server yet and then
you'll see messages like those:

Firmware: Failed to download
http://update.squeezenetwork.com/update/firmware/7.1/jive.version

So this site is not inofficial but more non-public as the code can
change and SC will query another address then.

The URL/file mentioned above contains 7.1 r2722, so this answers the
question to the last available/pushed out version, too.

and you should see on which file the scanner bails out. Maybe you have
to set plugin.itunes to debug, too.

I've just recently stumbled over those Use of uninitialized value in
right bitshift-messages myself. In my case this caused no further
problems, tracks have been recognized by SC and could be played.

kind regards,
Markus

Re: [slim] Anyone who is a bit bored.

2008-07-18 Thread schiegl

Hi,

thanks! i tried this one (LameTag) too, unfortunately without success.

Those CBR-mp3's don't have lame-tags at all - i probably have encoded
them in the pre-lame-days with something like bladeenc.
The tool which finally was able to repair those tracks was 'MP3
repacker'
(http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=32379) and
it's GUI 'WinMP3Packer'
(http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=40780hl=). It
even preserved all ID3-Tags.

the steps i've done to get rid of these messages:

- disable mip for the time (to reduce the scanning time)
- set scan, scan.import scan.scanner to debug
- perform a full scan and identify those mp3 tracks
- use WinMP3Packer with default-options to re-package those tracks -
sometimes converts CBR to VBR (!!! this overwrites the source !!! make
a backup before and somehow save/note the timestamp if you'd later
  want to restore it)
- enable MIP disable debug log for scanner perform another
  full-scan
- no more warnings

kind regards,
Markus

Re: [slim] Anyone who is a bit bored.

2008-07-17 Thread schiegl

Hi,

while polishing my music library - and hence my SC installation - i
stumbled across this Use of uninitialized value in right bitshift
error message when scanning.

I've narrowed it down to three problem mp3 tracks (creating 74 warning
entries!!!). I tried various methods to rewrite/fix/repair the mp3
header using foobar-utils-rebuild-mp3-stream, mp3trim, and a few
more.
This fixed 2 of the 3 files, one track remains which responsible for 66
lines of log alone (priority warning despite the fact scanner.* is set
to output only error messages)

Did anybody find a working solution to get rid of those messages - or
even better to fix the problem (mp3-frame-tags)?

thanks!

I'll attach my track to 'Bug 8070'

kind regards,
Markus

Hi,

have you tried the MusicInfoSCR Plugin? You can almost do anything with
this plugin regarding information presentation on those displays.

- create format-strings to your liking, e.g. ALBUM (YEAR)
- assign this format to your players display, e.g right transporter
display, middle row, small font.

finally you could overlay the visualizer...

I think a better alternative is for the server to monitor and
automatically spot changes to the music folder and to rescan it as and

 IMO.

Modern OS's include robust functions to monitor folders for changes
that don't rely on applications changing timestamps etc - I know at
least MAC OSX, Linux, BSD and Windows include this. Unfortunately the
mechanisms to implement this differ from OS to OS.

I've worked up a beta plugin to do this on Linux ('AutoRescan' - check
the plugins on the wiki if you're interested), and I'm planning on
widening it to support Windows as well when I get time.

 Stuart

Stuart,

i recently tested your AutoRescan Plugin. For new/modified files it
works wonderful! Would it be (even theoretically) possible to remove
files from the SC-Database this way?

The server.log indicates the plugin knows what happened (first a new
file has been copied to .../Incoming, a few minutes later i removed it
again)

Code:

  [08-04-25 13:49:14.0938] Plugins::AutoRescan::Plugin::watchCallback (289)
Directory detected as modified by file modification: /.../Incoming
  [08-04-25 13:49:19.1166] Plugins::AutoRescan::Plugin::inotifyPoller (232)

  [08-04-25 13:55:12.8877] Plugins::AutoRescan::Plugin::inotifyPoller (232)

I know the offical way to remove files from the DB is a wipe scan
procedure.

I think there's a couple of known enhancement request in this area:

When I get some time I might try tracing through bit more thoroughly to

try to understand what's going on. Like I said, I *think* it's supposed

to work already judging by the code I found.

this somehow confirms what i've experienced so far. I have removed the
track from the first directory and retagged the file (some attributes
only). After a MusicIP-Import/SC-Rescan the new file (in another
directory) showed up in the DB as expected and the old DB-entry has
been purged (verified via mysql/track-table) - without a clearrescan!

further investigations need on my side...

concerning FLAC 24bit/96Khz files: I have a few ones which show these
problems even with replay gain disabled and no screensaver at all.

the only workaround i've found so far is transcoding on the server side
to flac-compress level 0 to relieve the transporter CPU.

convert.conf:

Code:

  #flc flc * *
  # -
  flc flc * *
  [flac] -dcs --skip=$START$ --until=$END$ -- $FILE$ | [flac] -cs --lax
--totally-silent --compression-level-0 -

unfortunately this disables fast forward/reward (which i don't care)
but also seek support using the progress bar on the webinterface.

Because of the big internal buffer the music plays until the end of the

It makes no difference to the SB if its on or off, it keeps asking the
server what to do (dim display, show date screensaver, play music,

The loss of control (pause, skip, ...) and an empty display are the
first things you'll notice when the connection is lost.

some new wlan in the neighborhood? a new dect phone?

you could try the server network health to gather more statistics.
