Re: [slim] Can you still purchase IR remotes?
Are you asking about the IR remotes that came with the SB2/SB3 units? If so, I too could not find them on the Logitech site. -- web161 web161's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1264 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80485 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Can you still purchase IR remotes?
I just spoke with sales. They confirmed that they don't sell the original IR remotes for the SB2 or SB3 units. In fact, they didn't even know what an SB2 was as it's not listed in any way on the Logitech site. It's too bad. SlimDevices wouldn't have left us hanging so soon after purchase. The newest SB3s can't be more than 2-3 years old. Purchasing a Controller to operate an SB3 is ludicrous. The old IR remote was the fastest interface around. The new remotes look nice, but they are laggy. It was a great line of products when it was Slim. Sorry to see it go. -- web161 web161's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1264 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80485 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Can you still purchase IR remotes?
Sorry everyone I sounded too melodramatic earlier. I've since calmed down. I guess I'm not as comfortable with change as I should be. I still get a lot of enjoyment from the Slim hardware. I guess I'm just getting cranky in my old age. The 10-minute wait on the support line was something I never experienced in the days of Slim. You always got a person right away. I miss that. [slim] TWiT.am doesn't play on controller
Hello all, I'm trying to stream the TWiT live audio stream to my controller. http://twit.am/listen.m3u I can stream no problem to softsqueeze, SB2 or SB3 units. But no dice on the controller audio playback. Every time I try, the controller starts to buffer, then reboots. I realize playback on the controller is still beta, but I'm wondering if anyone else can confirm what I'm seeing here? I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure how and when these files were written and overwritten by the server. [slim] Info Browser opml issue
Hello all, I recently moved the location of my Playlists folder on my PC (WinXP Pro) that is hosting SlimServer 7.0.1. It is still on the local system drive, no network mounts or anything like that. I updated the Playlists path in the settings of SC7. While the playlists were found after a Clear library and rescan everything and still valid in my library, I now cannot access my RSS feeds. I get the following error: There was an error loading the remote feed for Information Browser (Unable to open the file C:\Docum..Playlists\infobrowser.opml) Has anyone run into this again. Trying to avoid a complete reinstall of SC7. Thanks in advance for your help. [slim] Controller Device Name
Hello all, Received my Controller last week and I'm loving it. My wife used it for the first time last night. She picked it up and learned it within 15 minutes. She loves it as well. Couldn't ask for anything more. But... I'm connecting to my wireless LAN and using DHCP for address assignment. No problems there with authentication or lease renewal. When I check my DHCP table, I see the Controller listed with a device name of *. Is there any way to change this to something more meaningful? I looked it both the SqueezeCenter settings pages and the settings on the Controller. I must be overlooking it. Could anyone steer me in the right direction. web -- web161 web161's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1264 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47975 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Server Side File Type Question
Hello all, I'm running SC7 on WinXP and have 3 hardware players on our home network. I have our music stored as FLAC files. Normally I've had the server set up to pass FLAC natively to the boxes. I disabled both mp3 and WAV conversions in the settings of the server. I recently set up a VPN at home. I'm now able to connect to my home network from work. Naturally I'd like to use softsqueeze to listen from work. But due to bandwidth constraints I've enabled mp3 to the flac/lame setting. I left the FLAC setting to Native. I bitrate limited the Softsqueeze player to 128kbps. Softsqueeze now works great through my VPN. My question is, while I do have bitrate limiting enabled for the softsqueeze player, is the server smart enough to only use lame for the bitrate limited player? Is it still sending full resolution FLAC file to my hardware players? I guess the server setup page is not quite verbose enough for my tastes. Any clarity that can be shown on this topic would be appreciated. Re: [slim] Server Side File Type Question
snarlydwarf;277175 Wrote: Yes. In short, the server will send the 'best' audio it can. With no bitrate limits, that would be flac since it is less bandwidth but same as wav... That makes sense. I figured that the server would try to send audio in this best-first type of configuration. i.e. try the best, then the second best, etc. I'm glad you were able to confirm it. Re: [slim] Squeezebox Boombox
NWP;214315 Wrote: Slimserver is wireless. Where wouldn't I use one?! answer: anywhere my wireless doesn't reach - other than that I'd take it all around my house. Not all of us have the money or the space to put a squeezebox, amplifier and speakers in every room of our homes. I'd like one squeezebox for my main stereo and I'd use a boombox everywhere else. Even in my bedroom... Why should I need an amp with speakers in my bedroom? I'd rather have a completely self-contained solution. I couldn't agree more with NWP. Yes, I know Slim is an audiophile grade solution. But there are many situations in a home environment where an All-In-One solution will get much more use. More use = more enjoyment (and perhaps more sales). I currently have a roving SB3 and it's a pain in the keister. Even with battery powered speakers, I still have two devices (SB3 speaker unit), dangling wires between them, and the SB wall-wart to deal with. If I didn't like Slim so much I certainly wouldn't bother. PLEASE give us a portable solution for those situations where we can't sit down in front of the entertainment system. web -- web161 web161's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1264 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36603 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezebox Boombox
I agree wholeheartedly. I hope the folks at Slim...er Logitech have put this one on the list. I'd buy two the minute they were announced. In fact, the lack of an all in one player is what keeps me from recommending SB to the less technically savvy crowd (read: Parents). web -- web161 web161's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1264 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36603 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] New SB3 owner - End of songs chopped off
It's a known bug that, unfortunately, Slim has been slow in fixing. It's been happening for over 6 months now. Current nightly releases (versions beyond the stable production release) still exhibit the behavior. This bug drove me to convert my library to FLAC. But it is not an option for everyone. It makes library management a little more manual than iTunes. Say what you will about Apple, they know how to make an interface that anyone can use. You can file a comment on the bugzilla report. I don't have the number handy at the moment. web -- web161 web161's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1264 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34990 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Scanning trouble - is this pervasive?
Same here. I stopped using the iTunes functionality a year ago because it never worked right. Sometimes albums would not show up as you described. More often, though, was the trouble of albums showing up with each track in the database twice. Disable iTunes checking...you'll never be happy with it. -- web161 web161's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1264 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24792 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
