If you want to create them manually and if VLC is already your preferred
media software then sure, that would be a good place to start. And if
the VLC standard configuration doesn't support m3u then you should look
for add-ons, because m3u is still a common format. For example, when I
first used Songbird it didn't support exporting m3u, but soon enough
there was a community-contributed add-on that added that feature.

As per the notes in the wiki, XSPF support in the future would be
useful. XSPF seems to be gaining traction in the open software players
like videolan.

Thanks, you make some good points, seems in some ways we are going in
opposite directions though.

I would like to go ahead and create some playlists, although some of
what I want to achieve could be done by re-tagging the original MP3's
for example with a track number, that isn't the direction I want to go
down I'll have a look and see if I can get videolan to create m3u files
using drag and drop and then save the playlist into a location where the
LMS can find them.

Re: [slim] Creating Playlists

2012-05-21 Thread aubuti

I rarely hand select my playlists any more. My collection has gotten too
big, and Squeezebox makes it too easy to "discover" tracks I've
forgotten I have. Most often I use MusicIP to generate playlists based
on the "acoustic fingerprint" of one or more "seed" tracks. Kind of like
Apple's "Genius" mixes, but better in my opinion. Then I may tinker with
what MusicIP has created, adding/deleting/re-ordering tracks to fit my
tastes a little better. Unfortunately MusicIP is no longer actively
supported, but there are a lot of users around here who can help. I
found this wiki article essential for getting it up and running with
LMS:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Integrating_MusicIP_with_SqueezeCenter
. Fair warning: it does take MusicIP a long time to analyze all your
tracks the first time.

Beyond that, any music software that can read your music files and write
.m3u format playlists will work. Foobar2000, MediaMonkey, J River Media
Center, Winamp, Songbird, the list goes on. I am not sure if iTunes will
write m3u playlist files, but I think it will. You can also make
playlists using LMS, either through the web interface or through one of
the SB players, although LMS's playlist creation interface is pretty
awkward for most users. There are also 3rd party controller software
solutions, such as iPeng, Squeezepad, etc.

[slim] Creating Playlists

2012-05-21 Thread cathcam

I have all my music stored on a network attached RAID array, over 6000
tracks.

I'd like to create some playlists now, I've never much used them in the
past for either Squeezebox or other MP3 players.

What are people using to create playlists and save them away? I assume
something that would be Windows compatible and allow drag and drop and
then saving the playlist away... or are using something else??

Actually, a bit more research on this... The bug I referenced is for
SqueezeNetwork, which has a very different Alarm plugin/setup mode. It has
much more flexibility than the SC alarm plugin in that you can use favorites
for your alarm music, along with a bunch of other special cases like the
natural sounds, etc. What would be great is if this were ported back into
SC.

Not that I'm aware of. You may want to xref this feature request:

Which is a similar request for Pandora.

[slim] Creating Playlists from On-Line Services like "Slacker"

2008-04-14 Thread Kaizen28

Hi All

Is it possible to create a playlist from a service such as Slacker with
SC 7.0? When I have a particular Slacker station playing, I have used
the web interface to save the station as a playlist but when the
playlist is selected, the connection fails for some reason.

Amy I doing something wrong or is this not supported? I ask as I'd like
to wake up to music from Slacker.

Thanks in advance..

Are you using a network drive? Can you give us some information about your

if the playlists created with slimserver work why don't you open the
Slimserver and Musicmatch created playlists in a text editor and see
what the difference is between the two. You may be able to change the
Musicmatch playlists with the find and replace function.

Re: [slim] Creating playlists in Musicmatch not compatible with Slim server/Squeezebox?

2007-12-07 Thread bpa

I've created m3u playlists with Winamp and they played OK with SS.

The problem that vnjeep has in the referenced thread is that somehow SS
was told to look in the wrong place for the created M3U file. There has
been no follow up giving info on what is causing the misdirection.

The file names in the M3U file must have either a full path (no drive
letters if on network servers) or paths relative to the Music folder
setting in pref.

Can you be more specific about the problems you are having ?

[slim] Creating playlists in Musicmatch not compatible with Slim server/Squeezebox?

2007-12-07 Thread exxazz

I tried to create playlists in Musicmatch (.m3u-files) and then use them
with the squeezebox. No luck. Anyone has any ideas?

Is there an even easier way to create playlists than in Musicmatch? It
is certainly much easier than with the Squeezebox or the Slimserver web
interface.

Help... Please... Thanks.
