[slim] Re: Help....Slim Server Starts then Stops.
Thanks to all who commented on this problem when I requested assisstance. I am sorry if I highjacked the thread that I didn't start. Today I tried to start from the command prompt again to correct the error I made in the command line that Stinkingpig pointed out. Well when I tried it today, I could not get any response beyond " slim.exe not a valid command". So at this point I said the hell with it and uninstalled the program ( I tried this a couple of times before I ever posted my problem here), then reinstalled and it seems to work perfectly again. The only difference I made this time was I also uninstalled the Java program necessary to run softsqueeze before I reinstalled slimserver. Not sure if this had any effect ?? I have no idea what the problem was or why it works now, go figure. I sure wish I was more computer literate ie.had a better understanding of how the program works and how the port communication works because as soon as it acts I guy like me is lost. I will continue to test with softsqueeze for a while before buying the squeezebox because I am not yet convinced it will be stable/reliable enough. Thanks bpa for your help thus far, since I am lost when it comes to this stuff. Let me know if I am wasting your time with this but I need a little help to get the info you request. I entered the command you asked for and got a pile of data. I do not know how to copy the output to a file ? I can't highlight and copy the info in the dos screen like in windows. Does it get copied into notepad or something -- Inniswhe Inniswhe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8377 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30217 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Help....Slim Server Starts then Stops.
It looks like it got further as there is a port clash perhaps with WMP 11. To get more info about the problem, running slim from the command line add the following options and then copy the output into a file, zip it and attach to a post slim.exe --d_plugins --d_startup --d_server --httpport 9080 -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30217 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

At the command prompt I entered the start up command as described and got the following two messages: "About to look for files in C:\programfiles\slimserver\server\playlists " and then this: "For files with extensions in: [(?i-xsm:\.http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8377 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30217 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The command should be slim.exe --httpport 9080 There are two "-" before "httpport" and a space between "slim.exe" and the "--" -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30217 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Help....Slim Server Starts then Stops.
I changed the command to " slim.exe--httpport 9080" This was not a recognizeable command. I tried " slim.exe httpport 9080 " and this yielded the same error code as before. I do not think I am entering the command properly. How should it be entered? Possible clash of app on port 9000. To confirm try adding the option "--httpport 9080" on the command line to use port 9080 when starting from command prompt. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30217 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Help....Slim Server Starts then Stops.
Stinkingpig, I am running Windows XP Sevice pack2.I went to the command prompt as recommended and tried to start the server. The following error message was returned: "2006-12-03 20:18:38.4687 can't setup the listening port 9000 for the HTTP server: Unknown error at /PerlApp/Slim/Web/HTTP.pm line 167 " Any ideas ?? Also I do not believe I have any plugins installed I am not awage of installing any slimserver plugins if that is what you mean. Thanks again for any help or ideas you or anyone may have on what to do next. -- Inniswhe Inniswhe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8377 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30217 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I'm not sure on Windows, but I think it's C:\Program Files\Slimserver\Plugins. You're looking for things like AlienBBC, Last.FM, Slimscrobbler, SuperDateTime... Try giving the service your account to run as (this is done by Start > Run > services.msc, right-click the service, Properties > Log on). Another high-likelihood problem is that you've got old plugins. Delete them, and then start again. Beyond that, my ESP fails :) A good general tip is to run it from a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) or Terminal ( Applications > Utilities > Terminal). Change directories to the place where Slimserver installed, then run the program -- it will spit out a bunch of text, and the end out that output will probably explain why it died. -- "I spent all me tin with the ladies drinking gin, So across the Western ocean I must wander" -- traditional ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I am not an expert in the inner workings of SS, but can offer some general computer psychology things to try, if you haven't already: 1. Reboot your network appliances 2. Start windows in safe mode to minimize conflicts from other services. 3. Shut down all processes that will stop using Task manager (except Explorer), then stop/start SS service manually. 4. Chkdsk for disk problems. 5. Scan for memory problems/hard drive problems which could be corrupting SS code. I use Tufftest. 6. If the SB can find slimserver on SB startup then there's no IP issue. 7. Type the error message into Google. 1/10 times I get a good clue. That's all my tricks. Sorry if it doesn't help. Good luck!
