I think everybody is using the Spotify plugins these days. It is more than £$10 a month of effort to get free Spotify playing through Squeezebox. I have the family package of 5 accounts for £15. Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify
As of the latest Spotify desktop version (1.0.48.103.g15edf1ec) my DSBridge on Windows 10 ceased streaming to LMS (7.9.0 - 1472937447) on my OpenMediaVault server. The blue dot appears in the task bar as soon as music starts playing, but disappears within a few seconds, before being able to turn green. It seems as if DSBridge crashes. It used to work perfectly. Of course I do have the files dsbridge.ini, dsound.dll and lame_enc.dll in the Spotify folder. Anyone experiencing the same problem? Would there be a solution? Thanks in advance. Since dsbridge has not be updated since 2009 I suspect it's no more able to get cover art from last spotify version. Is there anyone here that can see cover art? Thanks for your help. I was wondering the same thing about cover art. I've just installed the Spotify desktop application on my Windows 7 laptop and I am currently streaming the music in Spotify to SqueezeLite running as a service on my OpenElec XBMC HTPC. I've installed the XSqueeze add-on for XBMC and I am seeing some metadata like artist name, track name and even the currently playing artists bio. I seem to be missing the album name and cover art. Are there any newer projects along these lines of the DSBridge? Very impressed with the OP's solution however, working well and easy to setup etc. Thinking about installing the Spotify desktop application on to my Windows file server instead and using the Remoteless Spotify remote control app on a mobile device. No, cover art does not work, and only worked for a couple of months when DSBridge first appeared. This is really just playing a stream of data from your PC as if it were an internet radio station. Personally I have moved over to Spotify Premium using Triode's brilliant plugin. The ability to run Spotify without a PC makes it so much easier to use. I use it a lot so it is well worth the £10 a month to me, but your mileage may vary. DSBridge is fine if your use is only occasional and you don't mind booting up a PC to run it. Vicke;695616 Wrote: Can anybody explain this? or even better find a way which makes it work without all this hassle. Thanks in advance!A possible reason for the problem is that Avast somehow uses Flash and the presence of DSbridge files in the Flash folder confuses it. If I were you I would just uninstall Avast and try a different AV program. Avast may be free, but the latest version is a terrible resource hog. I have had to remove it from about five PCs around my family circle that I had installed it on about three years ago (when it was a simpler program). This is because it was bringing them all to a grinding halt. Once Avast was removed everything was fine and dandy. So far I have failed to find a decent light alternative to Avast, but because all the PCs sit behind NAT router based firewalls and the e-mail is pre-scanned with AV software at the ISP end before delivery, the risk of virus infection is negligible. Spyware is taken care of with Windows Defender, and Thunderbird deals with spam and phishing e-mails pretty well. The only time that you are significantly at risk of a virus infection or hack attack that needs a -software- solution is when you are using a laptop in a public environment such as a wi-fi hot spot or when you are collecting your e-mail from a provider that does not pre-scan for viruses. -- TheLastMan Matt http://www.last.fm/user/MJL-UK *SqueezeBoxes:* SB Duet (Controller + two receivers) *Server:* Synology DS107+ (500GB) NAS running LMS 7.7.0 on SSODSmod 4.14 *Network:* Netgear DG834GT ADSL modem/router, 2 x Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 as access points *Livingroom:* Receiver into Naim 42/110 amp, BW CM2 speakers *Kitchen:* Receiver into Denon DM37 mini-system, BW 686 speakers *Study:* Linn LP12, Naim 72/Hi-cap/Headline. Windows does a lot of caching so unless you have restarted Windows - once a DLL has been loaded it may still available even if deleted from the source directory as long as there is one instance of a process which has linked to it. This make Windows very confusing if you update DLLs as you need to reboot Windows to be sure the new version is being used. Use Process Explorer ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653 ) to see what DLLs are loaded and their source directory. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64590 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If you are using the two pane view - then after opening the lower pane ans making sure Lower Pane view is DLLs then if you select a process in the upper pane , the DLLs associated with that process will appear in the lower pane. However for this problem I think you should use the Find menu to find any instance of the file name of the DLL you have removed - I suggest just use first few letters of name. Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify
I have just installed DSBridge onto my wife's new laptop with Windows 7, 64 bit. I too had quite a few issues getting it to work but in the end it wasn't really much different from intstalling onto my 32 bit Windows XP laptop. All the files used were 32 bit versions, including the Lame dll. However the lappie had come with a version of McAfee internet security software and I only managed to get DSB to work by uninstalling the firewall component. That is fine for her as the laptop is essentially a desktop replacement, is behind a NAT router / firewall and will never leave the house. YMMV. I needed to put all the DSB files and 32 bit Lame dll into both the Spotify and Flash install folders. IIRC these were: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Spotify and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash It seemed odd to be putting 32 bit files in the 64 bit OS section, but it works. First, when you run Spotify and Play a track, do you see the blue ball icon in the Task bar? If so, then dsbridge is running. Secondly, you need to specify the IP address of the PC where Spotify is running. Do ipconfig/all at the C:/ prompt to discover the correct address. Erik L;547809 Wrote: Aha, that may explain why I cannot get as good sound quality from my SB as compared to when I use my normal universal player as transport. I thought the lesser sound quality was mostly due to HF pollution from the wifi circuit.I am curious, what do you mean by HF pollution really? WiFi does not change the payload data in any way shape of form, so what you have on the disk is what you get at the other end. However, with any radio environment there is of course interference and coverage issues that makes it more or less difficult to transmit what it is you are transmitting. The result of that is that your bitrate is reduced, as interference increases and reception quality is reduced. It may even get so low that you can't send a live WAV stream, or a FLAC stream and have to revert to mp3, but then your WiFi setup really needs to be reviewed... The alternative to that would be to wait until all of the song has been received in a buffer and then play it, however long it takes. But as long as the connection is maintained the bits are the same at both ends, that's the job of the transmission protocols. If there are bit errors, then they are corrected with e.g. retransmission. Actually it's no different than comparing a WAV file with a FLAC version or other Lossless formats, ZIP for example. The compression that is done with FLAC saves space but does not change or remove any data whatsoever! That's the whole point of using FLAC, but it's also why FLAC files are quite large compared to an mp3 file. What you May experience however is of course that one player gives a much better sound quality than another. But that has to do with other parts of the chain, specifically in the conversion from Digital to Analog and in all that comes after that... -- Gblenn Gblenn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22759 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64590 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

TheLastMan;596810 Wrote: IMPORTANT EDIT Note the final backslash in the URL for the favorite! Missed in the first version of these instructions. Yes, it works with any SqueezeBox by imitating an internet Radio station. You do *not* need the Premium version. You can stream from any PC on your network that is running Spotify, but with some limitations. - Download the DSbridge zip file via this site. - Find (Google) and download the Lame MP3 encoder. On Windows it is called Lame_enc.dll. It is available in lots of places so you should not have much trouble finding it. - Set up a static IP on the computer running Spotify. The easiest way is to get your router to link a particular IP address to the MAC address of your computer. Most routers can do this but ask again if you have difficulties. - Use the SqueezeboxServer web interface to create a favourite. For instance, if the IP address of the computer is 192.168.1.5 then the Favourite should be http://192.168.1.5:8124*/*;(note the final backslash). The 8124 figure is the port number that DSbridge uses by default. - From the DSbridge zip file you need to drop *all* the files, plus the Lame_enc.dll file, in *both* of the following folders: 1. the Spotify installation folder and 2. the Adobe Flash installation folder. The latter can vary depending on your installation, but on Windows XP it is c:\windows\system32\Macromed\flash Start Spotify and start playing some music and, in Windows, you should see a blue disk appear in your system tray (next to the clock). Then using the Touch or web interface select and play the favourite you have just created. After a few seconds of buffering you should then hear the output from Spotify play through your hi-fi and the blue disk will turn green. It sounds complicated, but once set up it is a doddle to use and, to be honest, the Spotify interface is so much easier to use than the Napster app that I use it in preference. You don't get the artwork - but that is not much problem. Personally I use it from my laptop. So in my setup, Spotify streams wirelessly from internet router to laptop, then DSBridge streams the music wirelessly from laptop to router then wirelessly from router to Reciever. It works fine. Didn't work with either IP adress though :/ Edit3: I can connect and get sound on my iphone if I connect to http://192.168.1.12:8124/ no problem at all... You have correctly diagnosed that this will be down to a software firewall on your computer (Norton or the Windows firewall). I think you will find this will work if you disable the Norton firewall and the Windows firewall completely. I don't use a software firewall as the one in my Router is enough to block any external attacks. All the Norton firewall is doing in your system is stopping your computer from connecting to other computers and SqueezeBoxes in your network. Software firewalls are pointless for fixed computers sitting behind a router. They have a use in a laptop where you are connecting to wi-fi hot-spots but not otherwise. If you have a Radio or Touch, as of yesterday, you can now get Spotify Premium as a supported SqueezeBox App (hurray!). However, if you want the free version you will still need to sort out DSBridge. Unfortunately those, like me, with older SqueezeBoxes still have to use either DSBridge or Triode's Spotify plugin. Get rid of the Norton and Windows firewalls, they really are a pointless resource hog and causes more problems than they solve (unless you have a laptop). -- TheLastMan Matt *SqueezeBoxes:* SB Duet (Controller + two receivers) *Server:* Synology Diskstation 107+ NAS (with firmware 2.3-1157) running Squeezebox Server 7.5.0 on Synology Package Manager *Network:* Netgear DG834GT ADSL modem/router, 2 x Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 as access points *Livingroom:* Receiver into Naim 42/110 amp, BW CM2 speakers *Kitchen:* Receiver into Denon DM37 mini-system, BW 686 speakers *Study:* Linn LP12, Naim 72/Hi-cap/Headline. I am using it on 7.5.1 From what you describe I think dsbridge itself is working fine, but there is something wrong with the way you have set up the favorite on SqueezeBox Server. The process in detail: - Open SBS web interface on a computer on your network - On the main page go to the favorites section and hover over it with the mouse cursor - Click the pencil icon on the right to enter edit mode. - Click the New Favorite button or, if you already have a favorite, hover over it and click the edit pencil icon. - In the left had field put a useful name for the favorite. In my case I put Laptop Spotify - In the right hand box put the appropriate URL in the format HTTP://[/B][IP ADDRESS][B]:8124/ In my case my laptop always uses the IP address 192.168.1.130 So the favorite URL in my case is HTTP://192.168.1.130:8124/ I found recently the final backslash is very important. TheLastMan;596810 Wrote: Yes, it works with any SqueezeBox by imitating an internet Radio station. For instance, if the IP address of the computer is 192.168.1.5 then the Favourite should be http://192.168.1.5:8124;. Given all those wireless hops it is a miracle it works at all! Matt, Thanks for the post, this must i test very soon. Nice!! However, I cannot figure out from the above link what I need to do to re-install a previous version of Flash and I don't have any more time now to spend on it. I too have just noticed this issue. I know it was working last week but note that I have been auto updated to version 0.4.3.426.g698a58c3 of Spotify on 18th June and now it doesn't work. Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify
I *may* be that Spotify now explicitly accesses C:\WINDOWS\System32\DSOUND.dll, instead of relying on Windows to serve it the dll (and hence get the one in the Spotify dir). This is just a guess, but it sounds possible to me... I am not sure how to work around it, though. Anyone have any ideas? Note that on W7, the windows file is named dsound.dll with all lower letters (just as DSBridge). -- OppfinnarJocke // OppfinnarJocke SqueezeBox Duet, Controller FW 7.5.1 r8885, Player FW 65 I mainly use my Duet for Spotify via Triode's plugin, see http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79706 OppfinnarJocke's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22307 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64590 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify
avbryt;557369 Wrote: The DSBridge file is named DSound.dll not dsound.dll in my spotify dir, is yours only lower letters? Mine is all lower letters, yes. But then I've compiled mine myself. The important thing is what path shows for the dsound.dll in ProcessExplorer. The way I understand it, the dsound.dll supplied by DSBridge, wraps Windows' system32\dsound.dll, and grabs teh output from system32\dsound.dll, re-compresses it and streams that out to SB. When a windows app (like spotify.exe) asks windows for a dll by name (like dsound.dll), windows looks first in the dir of the app, and i it finds the dll there, it serves the app with that file. If it is not found in the app's dir windows looks elsewhere, and would eventually (if DSBridge's dsound.dll was not available in the spotify dir) finds the dll in the system32 dir. But, if the app asks explicitly for C:\Windows\dsound.dll, it will get exactly that file and this would then bypass DSBridge's dsound.dll. There may be more detail to this, but from what I know, this is essentially how it works. And this may also be the reason why it used to work, but no longer works with the new version of Spotify.exe; it *may* be that the old version simply asked for dsound.dll and then got DSBridge's dll, but it now explicitly asks for C:\Windows\dsound.dll and then bypasses DSBridge.
