But seriously. I for one am not willing to give up. I used to be president of the
Houston chapter of the Doobie Brothers fan club in 1974 when I was a baby. It was
more like playing house back then. I only dreamed that some day I would get to meet
the Doobie Brothers and work for their fan club and now it has become a reality. I now
get to help out with the blood drive and help keep the list stirred up with bizzare
postings. How fun!!
Having been a Doo-bee in other organizations and also at work, I understand the
exhaustion and sweat that goes into keeping them going. One person can't do it all
and shouldn't have to do it all. Unfortunately, this is so often the case. There are
a lot of incredible Doo-bees in this club who do a lot of big things. If we ALL
band together, we CAN and WILL keep this train rollin!
BTW, it's time for your blood again, Doobs.

Ahem.well I for one am WAY excited about the convention in LA and
am waiting for a list of auction items to hit the airwaves, so I can see what
is to bid on. Last year I got a great picture of Skunk and Pat dancing on the
Dinah Shore show...now I just need John Hartman's autograph on it and OH
YEAH Lily Tomlin's too.
I know that get togethers with FRIENDS/FAMILY of this fan club is something
that sustains me throughout the year.
Some of you need to hit the Doobie Brother Fans chatroom and see just how
much excitment is going on in there about upcomming shows and the convention.
Laurinthose of us attending the Convention are thrilled! (speaking for
myself and atleast 3 other attendees) 34 people equals an intimate setting
with The Brothers that having 100's doesn't offer. It's the masses that are
missing out on this one...but don't worry everyoneHolly J will make up
for all of you that won't be with us.
I might even have to borrow a guitar from Lori so that I can participate in
the clinic John McFee is doing.and I don't even play! LOL LOL LOL
While I understand your frustration in the low number count Laurin, I know
that there are going to be 34 bona fide FC Members that are going to rockin
our asses off and I CAN'T WAIT!
And remember folksit's not too late to sign up for the convention AND
the shows at The House Of Blues.
  Peace, Holly =)

Re: Laughlin 2002

2001-05-16 Thread Steve Wice

Speaking for myself, (for what it is worth) I would be real interested in a
2002 Doobfest in Laughlin, NV. I am a relative late bloomer in the club and
on the list, since I didn't have computer access until 1999, and missed all
the fun stuff you guys have been rubbing in that you have experienced. I
figure that since it is so near to Vegas there should be great deals on
airfare and accommodations, plus the scenery should be great.

Last year I had all intentions of going to Saratoga, but my surgeon had
other ideas. Hopefully, the blue bird of happiness won't bless me with
anything like that again soon.

As far as the club lacking the enthusiasm that it once had, I'm
enthusiastic as hell, only problem is, we got no concerts nearby last year,
and it looks like the same this year. Thanks to Big Daddy Doob I did get
one Doobie fix in York, PA last year, and I may attempt the Pittsburgh show
this year.

If all else fails, I figure that I could slum off of Nick if I go to
Nevada! (Get the beer cold Nick! LOL).

I don't think that we should ever rule out having fan club get togethers,
even if it is just some of us who happen to live near each other, and meet
for dinner and a few brewskys! It's our own fault such things don't happen
more often, and we should all make an honest effort to see our neighboring
Doob Buds when we can. I hope that if any of you guys are ever going to be
in the neighborhood you will let me know so we can get together and swap lies.

Back to Laughlin, I haven't talked to the boss yet, but having a year to
make plans sounds like a winner to me. Besides, I need to meet some old
friends there, ie. Glenn, Gina, Nick, Holly, Gary, Debbie, Janyce, Steve,
Torrey, etc., etc.

I hope that someone out that way will take the bull by the horns and get
this train a rollin' for Laughlin in 2002.

Steve

From: Laurin Willis [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Laughlin 2002?

The idea has been floated about holding a fan-club reunion in
Laughlin, NV as the Doobies play 2 nights at the Flamingo Hilton Amp
April 27 28, 2002. =20

This has the potential to be a wonderful time for all Fan Club members.
I have no doubt that the memories and stories that would be shared by
the original fan club convention attendees would, by themselves, be
worth the trip to Laughlin. The shows and reunion would just be icing
on the cake.

Personally, my hope would be that such a reunion would rekindle the
spark that has been so desperately missing from the Fan Club these past
several/many months. =20

As a club, we have definitely hit maturity; early excitement and mystery
has given way to apathy generated by been there/done that. Recent
drives and events meant to bring fans together have 1) fallen from
previous years participation (toy drive), 2) fallen flat and met with
some resistance (blood drive), and 3) have failed to create much, if
any, excitement (Los Angeles 2001, only 34 registrants as of today and
no mention on the list serve in weeks). =20

There is a year to properly prepare for an event in Laughlin and there
are 3 important questions that need to be asked before moving forward:

   1) Is there sufficient interest by Fan Club members to plan AND
attend a Laughlin reunion?
   2) Is anyone willing to step forward and take responsibility for
planning a sucessful event (after LA 2001, I just don't have it in me)?
   3) In order to ensure sufficient participation, should an event
in Laughlin be the last planned Fan Club get together?

As stated above, as a club we have hit maturity. Day-to-day operations
of the club are pretty much on autopilot and, with that, the need for
leadership or organization is significantly diminished. Given that,
as the year progresses, I will fade more and more into the background of
the club and the autopilot will take full control. After that time,
should an FC member come up with an idea for an FC event, that idea will
be forwarded directly to the band and the band will either give approval
or not. With approval, it will be the responsibility of that fan club
member to present the idea to the club and move forward with the event.=20

These past 4+ years have been a great deal of fun...a definite E-ticket
ride (that's old Disneyspeak)! However, it is time to let the natural
progression take it's course and move over. =20

If Laughlin is pulled off, I'll certainly be there to celebrate...

Laurin
Slow Burnin' Steve

I joined up just before Laughlin, and couldn't make it. So the chance
to go to the place where it all began would be cool by me. With the
advance notice we have, everybody all around the world should be able to
fit it into their 2002 calendar. And let's see, 1997 to 2002 is five years.
A 5 year anniversary bash sounds like a plan to me!
