Re: [Dspace-tech] dspace reindex problem
As helix mentioned, no errors seem to appear in the script output. However, normal index-init run outputs the total time browse and search indexing needed to run. Seems that the procedure stuck or you did not let it finish. Does it totally finished by outputting the command prompt again, or the last message you show was the one you sent and then you pressed something like ctrl C to bring the command prompt back? Since, the indexing procedure can last long, you should wait for indexing to finish. Here is an example of an index-init run: = [root@localhost bin]# ./dspace index-init INFO [main] (DSpaceKernelInit.java:52) - Created new kernel: DSpaceKernel:org.dspace:name=44092adc-da73-4f42-9923-6ec21b58c032,type=DSpac eKernel:lastLoad=null: loadTime=0:running=false:kernel=null INFO [main] (ConfigurationManager.java:1224) - Loading from classloader: file:/ usr/local/dspace/config/dspace.cfg INFO [main] (ConfigurationManager.java:1224) - Using dspace provided log configuration (log.init.config) INFO [main] (ConfigurationManager.java:1224) - Loading: /usr/local/dspace /config/log4j.properties Started: 1370954210990 Ended: 1370954256617 Elapsed time: 45 secs (45627 msecs) Started: 1370954257352 Ended: 1370954273089 Elapsed time: 15 secs (15737 msecs) = Between the last "INFO" message and the first "Started" message, the time period varies depending on the number of items that the repository hosts and the quantity of the metadata fields than need to be indexed. I believe that the two shib admins who have spoken up (Ben / I ) have said this already.. lazysessions in the shib world is a way to tell the web container (apache) that we are using shibboleth for authn/z withOUT requiring a login right away. A lazy sesision configured block is as follows.. AuthType shibboleth ShibRequestSetting requireSession 0 Require shibboleth The default (always works) way to get a shib session flow started when using the Shibboleth SP is hitting the following URL http(s):///Shibboleth.sso/Login I would guess the algorithm for calculating is .. :-) protocol + site + shibboleth handler + Login ... Once you are returned from that back to the dspace env/app it is assumed that the REMOTE_USER and any other headers are able to be pulled out by the dspace login routines or, that it (dspace) will be looking for them anyway.. -- thanks kevin.foote -- This SF.net email is sponsored by Windows: Build for Windows Store. http://p.sf.net/sfu/windows-dev2dev ___ DSpace-tech mailing list DSpace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dspace-tech List Etiquette: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Mailing+List+Etiquette

Re: [Dspace-tech] lazysession.loginurl?
Mark, 1. Shibboleth.sso is the default - this will not change unless you have multiple applications protected by Shibboleth. 2. The parts of the path are scheme + vhost + "/Shibboleth.sso" + Location 3. vhost will come from the configured virtual host in your Apache config (i.e. site-enabled/) 4. Scheme should be self explanatory i.e. https 5. The last part is the tricky one as it depends on what version of Shibboleth SP you are running and how you have configured things. 6. Location is defined in the shibboleth2.xml in the shibboleth/etc/shibboleth directory (For Shib 2 upwards), however the Login location is not generally defined (I just define locations for Metadata, Status and Session for debugging purposes but do not run them in production). It will appear in the "metadata" that is distributed to the members of the federation who will use this information to know where to access various parts of the Shibboleth system as they authenticate users. The simplest thing to do is assume the defaults e.g. https://mysite.org/Shibboleth.sso/Login so the only information you need is the virtual host configured in the Apache config to be protected by Shibboleth. If this does not work "out of the box" then you will need someone who knows Shib unfortunately. [Dspace-tech] Two handles pointing to the same Item
Hi everyone, I am using DSpace 1.6 and I am encountering the following situation: When a Item is published, DSpace generates two handles that points to the exactly same Item. The workflow is as follows: First, the Item is submitted to a collection. From there, that Item has to be revised. When some metadata is added, we *approve *the submission. DSpace generates a URL with a handle, say 2011/3986. But when I check the Item (Edit Item option), the value of the section "*In Collections*" is the Item's collection repeated twice (attachment). And there is another handle pointing to that Item: 2011/3985. If we try to access the URL with 2011/3985 suffix, we end up in the Item's page, but the message "*Please use this identifier to cite or link to this item:*" will contain the 2011/3986 handle. As if 2011/3985 was just a link to 2011/3986. I would like some help understanding the portions of DSpace that manage statistics and metrics. If I understood this correctly, - usage statistics are generated from solr/statistics - these are accessed under "Statistics" - content statistics are generated from dspace log files and stored in .dat files in /log - these are accessed under "Administrative/Statistics" - monthly reports are generated from .dat files and saved as stored in html files in /reports - these are accessed under "Monthly Reports" In order to generate these properly, the following cron jobs must be run on a regular basis. - usage statistics - stats-util -o (hourly) - content statistics - stat-general (daily) - stat-monthly (daily) - montly reports - stat-report-general (daily) - stat-report-monthly (daily) I am currently encountering 2 issues with my content statistics. - I have lost meaningful statistics in production for the last 3 months. - I changed my log4j logging level from INFO to WARN. Could this have been the cause? - In my development environment, I am capturing a lot of garbage entries under "All Actions Performed". - The entries appear to be improperly parsed log file entries. Hi Terry, this topic is a bit complicated due to the fact that new statistics engines have been added and the old ones still kept. Your definition of content and usage statistics is not correct. Usage statistics is statistics on events caused by visitors, i.e. page views, downloads and searches. Content statistics is statistics on "static" contents of your repository - e.g. how many items you have, how many of a certain type. Newly in DSpace 3, there are also workflow statistics detailing operations on workflow steps by your users (e.g. approve, reject). There are 3 usage statistics "engines" in DSpace 3: 1) log files based - have been around since forever 2) Solr-based - since DSpace 1.6 3) Elastic Search based - since DSpace 3, disabled by default I don't know the menu items or the commands by heart, so just use the search feature of our official documentation (DSpace 3.x space), the commands will surely be there. Regarding your problems: 1) is almost certainly caused by disabling INFO lines, which are used by the log file based "engine". This is what those lines look like: 2013-05-15 16:33:27,671 INFO org.dspace.usage.LoggerUsageEventListener @ anonymous:session_id=F55DB90438AFAE5C16855044111671A4:ip_addr=66.249.74.15:view_item:handle=123456789/647 Solr-based statistics would not be affected by this, because they collect the events independently, not from log files (although import from log files is possible - meant for importing your legacy statistics). If you disabled logging, there's little hope of ever getting those back. You have a good chance of importing your log file-based statistics to Solr and continue using those exclusively. Unless you have bad luck, the missing period will be covered in Solr stats. The reverse - generating log files from Solr stats can't be done out-of-the-box. It might be possible to write a custom tool that would do this. 2) Sorry, can't help you much with this. There seems to be a problem also on demo.dspace.org. Is this what you mean? (example follows) ... 45.861] Performing deposit using location 1 36.741] Loaded ingester 1 52.774] Using package manifest format 1 18.794] Loaded ingester 1 16.629] Loaded package ingester 1 20.785] Total time for deposit processing 1 ... Re: [Dspace-tech] Mobile theme on DSpace 1.8.2
Hi Lewatle, no, this is not how you modify an .xsl stylesheet. You can't just put HTML tags anywhere. They're allowed only within an xsl:template tag, which has to match something meaningful. This is a big topic which you might not want to get into right now, but when you do, you can start here [1]. To add the links to HTML header in the Mirage theme, you have to copy the whole [2] until and put it into your .xsl just above . Then add XSL to generate the two script tags, look at this as an example: [3] However, that code is for autodetection. You should be able to see your mobile theme by typing your mobile.wiredspace.wits.ac.za directly if you did the other steps correctly. But I see there's no DNS record assigned with mobile.wiredspace.wits.ac.za yet, so you haven't done step 0 yet. You may need to contact your DNS administrator or domain registrar to do that for you. Also please note, that the subdomain currently *must* be called "mobile.", anything else will not work. Dear All, Wanted to Know : 1) How many different users are supported by Dspace .i.e. is the any user which only view not download the documents permission . Or how can particular users can be set to view(access) particular community documents only etc. 2) Also while browsing the Particular communities Item by Title , it shows the list having Title, Issue Date, Author . I have changed the fields to Date , Title , Community , now how can the Font Size of these heading can be changed. Kindly suggest. Re: [Dspace-tech] Queries
Dear Parul, 1) I am not sure that I understand what you really ask, but DSpace supports unlimited number of users and groups. You can assign users to groups (one user can belong to many groups) and then bind authorizations (regarding items, bitestreams, etc) with separate users or groups or both. To do this, you need to log in as administrator, move in admin area by pressing the "administer" link in the default sidebar, and then, click the option "Authorization" in the admin sidebar. 2) Regarding the list that appears after an "item" browsing, dspace configuration offers some options for you but not for the Font Size. Take a look for these options in the dspace.cfg file that mentions the following (under the "Web Interface Settings" part of the config file): # You can customise the width of each column with the following line - you can have numbers (pixels) # or percentages. For the 'thumbnail' column, a setting of '*' will use the max width specified # for browse thumbnails (webui.browse.thumbnail.maxwidth, thumbnail.maxwidth) # webui.itemlist.widths = *, 130, 60%, 40% Thus, if you like to change the Font Size, this must be made directly in the source code.
