[Dspace-tech] Using DSpace for hosting Past Exams Online
Hi All, I have an in-house Past Exams Online running on Linux, Apache, Mysql and PHP (LAMP). In the in-house system I have tables contain the relationships between Faculty, Departments, Course Codes and Course titles. During data ingestion (uploading a past exam script), the use simply selects the course code and the other pieces of information such as the course title, department and the faculty are selected in the background without the user input. Now I want to implement the project on DSpace. My question is it possible have the value of a given metadata field, e.g Department been a function of another value, which could be in another separate table, say. [Dspace-tech] Error while attempting to create identifier for Item id: 7330
I have the error below when I try to submit a new item to the repository during the last step just after granting the license. I have tried granting the dspace user all privileges on the repository database and I also tried running all the database upgrade scripts as the dspace user but this did not solve the problem. I also ran the update schema as well though as the postgres user. Am not sure if i have missed something, any help will be appreciated. Re: [Dspace-tech] Parameters for vocabulary xmlui not working
Hi Elvi, I successfully modified the controlled vocabulary splitter, thanks to your insights I could not do the work around without it. Here are my thoughts regarding the issue: 1. I completely agree with you that the 'subject code autocomplete' from dspace.cfg is different from the controlled vocabularies populated by Subject Categories link (as per your experience). 2. Upon inspecting the codes of Kevin, the developer of this feature, I noticed a single instance that the delimiter :: appeared. It is on [dspace-src]/dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/vocabulary/ControlledVocabulary.java. I simply edited the file. But since I am now developing my template in [dspace-src]/dspace/modules/xmlui/src/, no matter how many times I rebuild DSpace, the effect won't be applied. So I tried copying ControlledVocabulary.java file to [dspace-src]/dspace/modules/src/main/java/org/dspace/vocabulary/. Rebuild my DSpace and restart Tomcat and it worked like a charm. 3. BTW, I can't have the autocomplete feature work but since my original objective is to modify the splitter from the vocabulary entries generated by the Subject Categories' link, I'm fine with it. Thanks again. I am almost done hard testing our DSpace. Just fine tuning some stuff and fixing minor bugs. Best regards, Brian On Fri, Aug 16, 2013 at 7:51 AM, Nemiz, Elvi S. [via DSpace] ml-node+s2283337n447...@n4.nabble.com wrote: Hello Brian, I have now recreated your problem, and I noticed a few things. If you are using the Subject Categories link to populate your subject keywords field, the :: splitter is being used. But try to use suggest in the choices.presentation.dc.subject of your dspace.cfg, this will sort of autocomplete the entries as you type in the subject keywords field, and you'll notice that it is using whatever values you have set as the splitter, in my case I used . Please see attached file. As you can see in the attached file, the first entry I have in the subjects area is using as the splitter whereas the second entry was using the default :: as the splitter. If you really want to use your custom splitter, then I suggest that you have to refrain from using the Subject Categories link to populate your subject keywords field. Perhaps Kevin of atmire (the developer of this feature) can help us why our custom splitter were not being used when using the Subject Categories link. CSV is just a generic format, like a TXT file, the data in it can be encoded in many ways. Therefore to save effort, I suggest you go ahead with RIS. This is the command to import a RIS file: [dspace]/bin/dspace import -b -m mapFile -e exam...@email.com -c 123456789/1 -s /export/export-ris -i ris * [dspace] is the directory where your DSpace is installed * mapFile is a file created by the import process containing newly created handles that can be used to revert a failed import * exam...@email.com is the email of the dspace administrator (this user must exist in DSpace), the first administrator created during DSpace installation logs in using PasswordAuthentication * 123456789/1 is the handle of the collection where you want to create the new items * /export/export-ris is the .ris file with records you want to import Regards, ~~helix84 Compulsory reading: DSpace Mailing List Etiquette https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Mailing+List+Etiquette -- Introducing Performance Central, a new site from SourceForge and AppDynamics. Hi Stephano, it's normal behaviour that anonymous users cannot upload into the repository. You probably had your DSpace 1.8 repository set up in a different way and those users were not anonymous. How did you do the migration to DSpace 3? Did you reuse the database? If you did, the the users, groups and permissions should remain the same. Re: [Dspace-tech] migrate from Windows to Linux
Dear Eileen, it's quite challenging to give a comprehensive answer because of the many different aspects involved. I will try to start with a few pointers, feel free to follow up with more specific questions. *General information about DSpace upgrades* The general documentation for upgrading a DSpace installation can be found here: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC3x/Upgrading+a+DSpace+Installation An upgrade from 1.5.2 to the most recent version, 3.2 will entail that you need to run the database update scripts for each intermediate version. *Migrating from a Windows based installation to Linux* A major area of work associated with your migration will be the installation and configuration of the dependencies DSpace needs in order to be installed and operated. The installation documentation at https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC3x/Installation gives a good overview of the installation of these dependencies. One other area that I can think of, which is definitely different in Linux compared to Windows, is how scheduled tasks are configured. Information about these cron jobs is also covered in the installation documentation: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC3x/Installation#Installation-'cron'Jobs I realize this was rather vague and general, but I still hope this helps to put you in the right direction! Hi Eileen I was waiting for Bram to reply. I have more details about using Linux for DSpace here: http://wiki.lib.sun.ac.za/index.php/SUNScholar/Dspace As far as upgrading AND changing platforms, the answer would be that you export all the contents from the old version and simply import them to the new platform. Information about these cron jobs is also covered in the installation documentation: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC3x/Installation#Installation-'cron'Jobs https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC3x/Installation#Installation-%27cron%27Jobs I realize this was rather vague and general, but I still hope this helps to put you in the right direction! In case you are considering outsourcing the actual upgrade work, @mire could provide you with such services. with kindest regards, Bram Luyten -- logo *Bram Luyten*/@mire/ /2888 Loker Avenue East, Suite 315, Carlsbad, CA. 92010/ /Esperantolaan 4, Heverlee 3001, Belgium/ www.atmire.com http://atmire.com/website/?q=servicesutm_source=emailfooterutm_medium=emailutm_campaign=braml On Fri, Aug 16, 2013 at 5:09 PM, Eileen Brouddus eileen.broud...@washburn.edu mailto:eileen.broud...@washburn.edu wrote: We have a DSpace instance installed on Windows at version 1.5.2 and we want to migrate that to a Redhat Linux platform and upgrade to the current version.
