[DSTAR_DIGITAL] Re: D Star Contest

2010-06-23 Thread vk4tux

Also, as I said in another message, one touch
reply seemed to be broken to Japan on VK3RMM the
other day when I tried to respond to a Japanese
CQ. I couldn't get the routing information when I used the call button.

Using a 92AD setup as base with the RS-92 software is the deadliest winning
metod here.
Using a type in ur in the CS window on the software GUI, enabling individual
callsign and/or(if individual op callsign wont work) repeater routed calls
/JA3XXXC etc (the original way we contacted Japan), in quick time (type in and
TX) is the way to go to win this contest.

Kinda. You can't set callsigns without going into programming mode.

On RS-92 (I thought was the same format as RS-91) you can enter Your, RPT1 RPT2
MYCALL callsigns in the ¨select callsign gui¨ fields, with the radio in use
- connected, click ok and then use those entries on transmission with no
problem.

[DSTAR_DIGITAL] DVTool on fedora 10

2009-10-11 Thread vk4tux
Still using DVTool 1.10beta 5
(latest DVTool-2.0beta4-linux did not work for me on CentOS orfedora 10),
here with very good results on
Fedora 10 on the desk machine, which I recently changed from CentOS 5.
Latency is no longer an issue. I prefer to use the Java sound Audio Engine for
output which uses the default sound device.
To keep the Logitech headset as default, I use the following method,
as the kde system multimedia settings, does not seem to alter the original
soundcard default I had.

Both Fedora 9 and 10 speed up the boot process by loading device drivers for
hardware in parallel. If you have more than one soundcard there is an
unfortunate side effect to this feature. It is not possible to predict the load
order of the soundcards (ie: sometimes one card will be the first, sometimes
the other). Regretfully both Fedora 9 and 10 do no longer have a graphical
utility to set the default soundcard (argh).

It is important to always have the same sound card order to be able to use hw:0
(or hw:1 or whatever) as the target device for starting Jack.

Typing this in a terminal will show you which cards you have and what is their
current order:

cat /proc/asound/cards

If you see just one card you should be fine and can ignore the rest of this
section.

Otherwise you will need to edit as root /etc/modprobe.conf (or create it if it
does not exist) and add some magic so that the card device drivers are always
loaded in the same order.

You can use the following template as a basis for what you have to add to
modprobe.conf. If modprobe.conf already exists just add to this at the end:

alias snd-card-0 snd-CARD_0
options snd-card-0 index=0
options snd-CARD_0 index=0
alias snd-card-1 snd-CARD_1
options snd-card-1 index=1
options snd-CARD_1 index=1
...
alias snd-card-N snd-CARD_N
options snd-card-N index=N
options snd-CARD_N index=N

In this template ``...'' stands for more lines here, one for each extra card
(don't copy the dots! :-) ``CARD_N'' is the name of the kernel module that
corresponds to the card you want in position ``N'' (N=0 is the first card,
usually the default device used by all programs).

If you don't know what kernel module your card uses just do this as root from a
terminal:

/sbin/lsmod | grep ^snd

This will list all the soundcard related kernel modules. From the list and the
output for ``cat /proc/asound/cards'' you should be able to figure out which is
which.

Here is a filled in example that includes three cards:

alias snd-card-0 snd-ice1712
options snd-card-0 index=0
options snd-ice1712 index=0
alias snd-card-1 snd-ens1370
options snd-card-1 index=1
options snd-ens1370 index=1
alias snd-card-2 snd-usb-audio
options snd-card-2 index=2
options snd-usb-audio index=2

As there is currently no clean way to reload the whole alsa subsystem just
reboot the machine. From now on the cards you have should always appear in the
same order.

My /etc/modprobe.conf reads;

alias snd-card-0 snd_usb_audio
options snd-card-0 index=0
options snd_usb_audio index=0
alias snd-card-1 snd_hda_intel
options snd-card-1 index=1
options snd_hda_intel index=1

This works very well for me.

[DSTAR_DIGITAL] Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice ?

2009-08-07 Thread vk4tux

If the repeater gateway could discern whether the call arriving at a gateway
originated via reflector or via source route, and depending on the source,
inhibit sending to a reflector for a few minutes it would really simplify
operations and better mix reflector calls and source routed calls.

Steve, Some of us need the ability of allowing icom routed calles to flow
through to the reflector to communicate to stations heard during a dplus link.
This applies to usage of VK4RWN when a reflector/gateway
dplus link is made.
As dplus is looking for VK4RGC(the old callsign still in gateways.txt with its
identical ip), not VK4RWN, thus the cqcqcq outgoing stream(containing vk4rwn)
is not passed, although all incoming RX streams are heard via the link.

Thus to get around this I look at the reflector dashboard(for the one VK4RWN is
linked to, showing as VK4RGC on the dashboard) and pick the gateway link that I
would think would have the best bandwidth and
icom route to it.

This is a messy way of doing things, but better than nothing, which would be
the case if you recommendation was adopted Steve.
Of course the root of the problem should be fixed, and could be, if
some admins :actually wanted to fix it¨?

Methods include;

1. Renaming the repeater back to VK4RGC (very unlikely to occur)

2 Deleting VK4RGC from the D-star system gateways.txt files through
the Trust Server postgres deletion process (this does not work and no-one can
apparently fix it although its not on the trust server, the deletion is not
happening network wide)

3 Change the static ip of VK4RWN ( The most viable option, but who cares in the
VK admin, as there are only a handful using the repeater anyhow?)

4.AA4RC to write code to sort out the deleted gateways in his dplus system.
(Again another person too busy probably?)

D-star is not growing in SE Qld Australia, it is nearly extinct, and the WIA
should have a good look of the upkeep maintenance of this repeater, as they
hold its license. Its a blight on VK D-Star´s reputation, especially when we
have International d-star visitors(eg; G4LUE), wondering why they cant link
home and use cqcqcq as per usual procedure, and wondering where the A B
modules vanished too?

If the modules could#324;t be refitted after a icom upgrade, why remove them
in the first place?

Anyhow there are probably other gateways out there in a similar situation,
caused from renaming the gateway callsign. They will need to icom route to a
suitable linked gateway to pass transmissions to the reflector, if they want to
join a qso heard on a dplus link to that same reflector.

Fran is correct that the Japanese incoming icom routed call should be also
heard on the reflector via your local gateway dplus link to it.
Otherwise the method I use would not work.
If the incoming routed call collides with another transmission, then it will
not be heard.

Too many times these problems of unheard streams are caused by ops not allowing
pauses between transmissions.

A very good idea though Steve, in a perfect working D-Star system.

[DSTAR_DIGITAL] DV030604 Dongle for sale

2009-06-15 Thread vk4tux
Selling my second DV Dongle here, which I did use at my 2nd location.
It is in perfect working order, but I cant use it with DVTool as the serial
number has been blocked on the AA4RC gateway name server(causing gateway list
not to load), and I have had no recent response in regards to whether this
situation will remain.

However the purchaser would need to contact AA4RC to get the serial unblocked
before they can use it, by associating it with your callsign and not mine.

Email address good on qrz.com and best offer this week gets it.
I will include the postage in your offer which will be approx $25 USD
cost for me, for USA .

Includes DV Dongle and USB cable. Payment via paypal only.

This is not the correct forum to discuses Australian centric items.

Well you choose to ask the question here didn't you and didn't like

I use a dual band (id-800h)2m/70cm antenna(homebrew*) as a director

Excess coax pruning and a new type N connector all helped. I tried on
this same spot, 2 weeks ago, with no result on attempt to keyup
 VK4RGC A.

Tried the rps DD and although not internet routed, I received a few
packets for the first time, with a different IP I setup today.

Spoke to Brian NJ6N also and apparently cross gateway DD networking is
not possible.

However VK4RGC A looks very ready for happens next.

Try the Sun javacomm 2 addon for windows which includes some serial

If you have clicked on DVTool.jar in its home DVTool folder and this
problem still happens, I would try the dos box (command prompt)method

cd to DVTool folder and run

java -jar DVTool.jar

and see what you get in the verbose comment in there. The DVTool java
