[DX-NEWS] DX pwr and rigs
When u hear a DX station announce his rig type, power, and antenna he is running at the moment, pse be aware that in many places around the globe, it is not advisable to announce one's power output, some radio models, or even antenna typedue to local restrictions/or questions about same (including ERP). [DX-NEWS] Start of 60 m ops?
Well, there is some confusion about the actual start time/date of legal USA 60meter band operations Some, like me, believe that if an airline says to depart at midnight July 3, it means that if you arrive at the airport at 11:30PM on July 3, you have a half hour until your flight this is how airlines give you times and dates. If so, I claim the first transatlantic QSO on 5.403.5 with G0HNW, Paul in Leeds, England at 0400Z on July 4. However, if one thinks that midnight on July 3 is actually one minute before 12:01 AM on July 3, then my contact above was 24 hours late. If my first guess is correct, I have used the established practice of telling time. If my second guess above is correct, once again ARRL has violated its own advice and used local time instead of UTC. Either way the better opening time would have been 12:01 Z and all confusion would be settled. Guys on 60m that I asked were mixed in the opinion about the opening time... some said one above and some said two above. Sigh...at least my claim of the first transAtlantic SWL report on my 60m signals copied in England still stands, altho neither QST nor CQ took notice of it. sigh, again.. 73, Charles Harpole [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail --- Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems, etc DX-NEWS http://njdxa.org/dx-news DX-CHAT: http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net ---

[DX-NEWS] Hurricane Net agn in operation
Be advised that the Hurricane Watch Net is again in operation on 14.325 and needs a clear freq, of course. The HWN collects on-ground observed weather information and sends that to the Miami Nat. Re: [DX-NEWS] qsl ink
Pse note that most ball point inks will eventually completely disappear, leaving only an indention where the ink used to be. Decay times vary with brand and storage condx. Many ink jet computer printer inks have a short lifespan... both applications have the spec of a quick dry... and if it drys quickly it likely will also disappear more quickly due to the chemical composition that creates the fast drying. This is why most bankers and lawyers have you sign important documents with THEIR PEN, not yours. They use permanent, real ink. The longest lasting ink has some metal in it, but good results can be expected from a Flair or Sharpie permanent ink versions. Typewriter ribbon inks are also usually very long lasting because they have metal in them to avoid rusting the keys. But. Nothing lasts forever, not even good ole paper and ink QSLs. 73, Charly Charles Harpole [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com --- Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems, etc DX-NEWS http://njdxa.org/dx-news DX-CHAT: http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net/

[DXR] XW licensing efforts
Hello DXers from HS land... I have had to abandon my efforts to oftain an XW license this summer. The process is rather difficult, but the personnel in Lao PDR are very friendly and responded to email from me in quite a timely manner. For me, I would have had to travel to Laos, find a receptive hotel or other site for ham radio, get that site's approval in writing, go to the Lao radio regulators' offices to apply for a ham license at that location. However, the usual Laos visa is for only 15 days, and the license application process takes longer than that, at least in my experience. Thus, one must depart Loas (or somehow get a longer term visa), wait for the license approval, and then return for ham operations. However, it is very possible that the site one selects will not be approved, thus recycling the whole process again. This recycling could occur several times. My advice at this time is to work Hiroo, who is now approved in Laos for a limited period. 73, Charly now HS0ZCW and VU3CHE _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-news To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives available at http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net/ This is the DXR reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org

[DXR] More on 40M HS0ZCW
Tnx to many who have tried to make contact with me in Thailand. The window to stateside is very narrow in time, it appears. This Bangkok morning, I did hear two stateside sigs but the ops did not know how to do weak sig workand spent all their time sending my call sign. A little later I did hear __5LGZ and actually worked LU3EV solid. I will try tonight BKK time, and then give up on 40 meters. The noise level on my rcvr is S7 to ten over 9. But 7.017 still seems the most clear over here. Please tell everyone...NO OPERSTION ALLOWED ON WARC IN THAILAND. Still I am getting requests for WARC contacts. NOT LEGAL IN THAILAND !!! Thanks to everyone who gave it the ole college try!!! 73, HS0ZCW Charly _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-news To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives available at http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net/ This is the DXR reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org
[DXR] 40 m sked w. HS0ZCW wanted
Hello... over the next four or so days, I am seeking skeds on 40 meters. CW about 7.015 to 7.020 and SSB 7.044 or .046 and I will listen up at about 7.187 if necessary. Send to me your best times and dates. I set the freqs, you set the time/dates. No RTTY nor other data modes. No WARC at all (and no 80 nor 160 until contest). 73, Charly back in HS land HS0ZCW [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-news To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives available at http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net/ This is the DXR reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org
[DXR] XW HS and VU4 update
Here is my update on my Asia trip, de K4VUD Charly: 1. XW...I put in license application in person in Vientienne. Told may take months to approve if at all. Was told by Freq. manager man that I can not guest operate at Hiro's Laos DXShack unless I have my own license and maybe not even then. 2. Am asking for 40m skeds while I am HS0ZCW... see other email to dx-news. I will be in HS for maybe two more weeks. 3. No news yet on my VU license application, but last was told that something may come thru about June 1. And, I will not know anything about VU4 until I travel to Delhi. I am waiting for the rains to cool Delhi down from current 106 F to a balmy 100 F or so! Lakshadweep has the word weep in it for a reason... travel costs to get there even from India and the cost of staying there are somewhere above the stratosphere. However, I definitely will travel to VU4 even if no license just to look at it. 73, Charly _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-news To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives available at http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net/ This is the DXR reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org
Re: [DXR] FW: 20 meter DX window
Most times if a real DX comes up on 14.195 and calls CQ, any other rag chewers are welcome to try to bear the presence of hundreds of other callers if they wish. Anyone trying to enjoy a ragchew and at the same time is the holder of a sound mind and generous heart would immediately QSY. Unfortunately, the current test to become a ham radio operator concentrates on arcane technology and math...never used by average ham... and tests little about OPERATING CORRECTLY and with courtesy. I have never had intentional nor accidential QRM from a ham because he knew higher math or any of that other useless-to-the-hobby stuff on the tests I always get QRM from bad operators...or uninformed operators. Ham radio stopped being a truly high tech hobby a few years ago, but it is still a very fun and useful OPERATING hobby. I vote to concentrate on testing operating vs. technology. 73, Charly now again in HS land after putting in XW application in person in Lao. _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-news To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives available at http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net/ This is the DXR reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org

Hello DXers... I am departing HS tonight and going to XW-land. I will be searching for the correct license there to satisfy ARRL DXCC. Hope to be on the air on 20 and 15 with 100 watts (CW abt 20kc up from bottom of band, plus or minus Asian pirate QRM) and SSB usual freqs. 73, Charly K4VUD and HS0ZCW _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-news To post a message, DX NEWS items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives available at http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news%40pro-usa.net/ This is the DXR reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org

[DXR] calling DX
Please consider posting the following message where many many hams who want to be DXers can read it: 1. Please sign your WHOLE call signs when calling a DX station. The last two habit wastes time. DX may not get your total call sign and only give a portion in calling you, but give the DX the chance to copy your TOTAL call sign immediately. 2. Please cooperate if DX station is calling by numbers and only call during your legitimate time to call. [DXR] DX and ESP ?
At the risk of a lot of jokes, I gonna ask the following anyway. Have any DXers (or just ordinary hams, if there are any) had the experience of feeling that any radio contact you made resulted from any form of ESP ? I say this because of recent readings in the subject (remote viewing is especially interesting and lots of US tax dollars were spent investigating it) and because during some especially difficult DX contacts, I have had the feeling that I made the contact (that he heard me or I heard his reply) beyond regular expectations, given the very difficult condx. This has also happened to me during contests. I am also interested in stories of hallucinations during long periods of radio operations especially if the stories relate to radio results (not just hallucinations, but radio ones!). You may reply in confidence and be assured I will not use your identity in any way related to this inquiry or you may reply without id. I am a serious researcher with a Ph. D. and know how to do this kind of scholarly work ethically.
