Title:
After locking screen sometimes must login twice

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Using Ubuntu 14.04 final beta. Intermittently, when I lock the screen
then unlock after a period of time the screen locks again by itself
and I must unlock one more time.

To date I haven't found a pattern for when this happens other than it
seems to occur when the computer has been locked for several minutes.
The computer has not been suspended.

  Steps:
  1. Lock screen
  2. Leave locked for several minutes
  3. Login to unlock

Screen refreshes to the desktop. Then all of a sudden the screen locks
itself and I must re-enter my password and unlock the screen yet
again. After that the system is stable and I can continue to work.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1306417] [NEW] Lockscreen can be bypassed after screen has blanked

2014-04-11 Thread Sami Jaktholm
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Lock the screen
2. Let the lockscreen blank
3. Press ALT+TAB

What happens:
The application switcher appears and it's possible to switch between
applications. The chosen application will get keyboard focus and any input will
go there.

What should happen:
Nothing. Lockscreen should grab the keyboard and stop the input from going
anywhere.

This has security implications. For example it's possible to open the
Run command view and run unity --replace to destroy the lockscreen
and open the session.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1306454] [NEW] Webapps don't show up in launcher

2014-04-11 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Public bug reported:

It may be that my user session is screwed up and that this bug is
invalid, but anyway I'd appreciate some hints on how to restore the
functionality.

I'm using firefox 28.0, and when I visit a webapp-supported website and
I'm asked for integration and I accept it, nothing happens. For
instance, when I visit gmail.com, no icon is added to the launcher.
There is a gmail application in the dash, but I believe it's from an
older version: in fact, when I start it, the command line being used is:

  webapp-container --app-id=Gmailmailgooglecom --webapp --enable-back-
forward https://mail.google.com

whis seems wrong (the --webapp argument is missing the webapp name).
I tried removing all webapps from ~/.local/share/applications/, and I also
removed the ~/.local/share/unity-webapps* directories, but this didn't help.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1252026] Re: Message indicator and Empathy showing different status

This seems to be a bug in empathy. telepathy-indicator (the component

messaging menu.

Maybe related to #1103438. The following behaviour occurs:

-if I select Invisible from Messaging Menu, Empathy actually changes to
Busy.
-if I select Invisible in Empathy it activates Busy in Empathy instead.
Messaging Menu however also shows Busy when this happens.

The behaviour is not always consistent, it depends on the exact order
  the status is selected.

On Trusty, if I launch thunderbird from the terminal or from the Dash,
then thunderbird is able to use enigmail. If I launch via indicator-
  messages, it is not.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. adjust /usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird.sh to have:
  echo TEST: $GPG_AGENT_INFO /tmp/tbird.gpg

  2. Launch from a terminal:
  $ rm -f /tmp/tbird.gpg ; thunderbird
  $ cat /tmp/tbird.gpg # separate terminal
  TEST: /run/user/1000/keyring-bzAKyI/gpg:0:1
  (It worked!)

  3. Launch from the Dash:
  $ rm -f /tmp/tbird.gpg
  launch from Dash
  $ cat /tmp/tbird.gpg # separate terminal
  TEST: /run/user/1000/keyring-bzAKyI/gpg:0:1
  (It worked!)

  4. Launch from indicator-messages:
  $ rm -f /tmp/tbird.gpg
  select Thunderbird Mail from indicator-messages
  $ cat /tmp/tbird.gpg # separate terminal
  TEST:
  (It did not work)

[Dx-packages] [Bug 652978] Re: Notify-OSD should be suppressed when using the sound menu

2014-04-11 Thread Lars Uebernickel
This issue cannot be solved in the sound menu. It is up to the
applications to issue notification bubbles based on how the track was
changed. Similarly for notify-osd: it doesn't have enough information to
decide whether to show the bubble (namely, where the track-changed event
was originally from).

I think apps should never show a notification in response to a manual
track change, unless the track was changed using the media keys.

When notifying using Notify-OSD, it covers some parts of sound menu

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1018215] Re: Unity launcher appearing interrupts GTK drag and drop operation (that's nowhere near the launcher)

2014-04-11 Thread Lem
I believe https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1060580
is related to this bug, since that bug report describes lag during the
panel fade event. I've noticed it in 13.10 and 14.04, that there's a
skip in an icon's position during dragging while the Unity panel
initiates its fade animation. I'm almost tempted to link these bugs as
duplicates, as I believe they're very closely related. At the time an
icon skips in its path, in the same moment a drop event would be lost..
actually I will link them, pretty confident and I think it'd be fairly
trivial for one of the Compiz/Unity guys to fix, seeing as it happens at
such a specific time, and is very easily reproduced.

Drew Snellgrove's video in comment #17 is an extremely good
demonstration (thanks Drew!)

2014-04-11 Thread Lem
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1018215 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1018215

I marked this as a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1018215 because I'm
confident both issues (drag and drop events being lost on panel fade,
and lag during panel fade) have the same cause.

It's worth noting neither bugs are present when the Unity plugin is
disabled from within CCSM. It's also worth noting that when re-enabling
the Unity plugin from within CCSM on Ubuntu 13.10, the panel fade
animation during dragging doesn't initate, and neither this lag nor the
lost drop events occur. So I conclude this bug is precisely related to
the fade animation of the unity panel.

Bug description:
I would like to propose the unification of the application registration
process.
AFAIK, at the moment there is a following situation with the registration
process:
  1. Sound Menu. Every application registers itself after the first start
(providing desktop-file location through the dbus). The only preregistered
application is banshee.
  2. Messages menu. Every application registers itself, placing file with
desktop-file location into the /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/
folder (or user folder). Default launcher list (evolution, empathy and gwibber)
is hardcoded, rather than stored in gconf scheme, as indicator-sound does.

In fact, I see no united way to deal with all that stuff. I suppose, that
indicator interaction API should be similar in most cases, however in this case
they are absolutely different.
First, messages-applications have no dbus-method to register themselves. Yep,
that's not fatal, it only makes maintainers should care about indicator
creation.
And second, sound-applications are unable to preregister themselves during
the installation. Yep, this is conflicts with SoundMenu spec, but really why
it's stated in spec? And why it's different from Messages policy? The main
problem are applications who don't provide any GUI and are not intended to be
started as usual applications, but as something like user-session daemons. In
fact I can name only one such application :) — my mpd-sound-menu, in most cases
user wants it to be started with his session to display MPD status.

  Your suggestions?

2014-04-11 Thread Lem
I just posted a comment on 1060580 about marking it as a duplicate of
this bug. I also had this to add:

On Ubuntu 13.10, it's worth noting that disabling the Unity plugin in
CCSM eliminates bug 1060580 and this one. Interestingly, re-enabling
the Unity plugin then trying drag and drop again, the panel fade
animation doesn't occur, and neither do these two bugs. I'm pretty
confident that narrows these bugs down to the panel fade animation.

On my system lockscreen lose keyboard focus even if not pressing Alt +

indicator.

Lockscreen can be bypassed after screen has blanked

Status in Unity:
  In Progress
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Lock the screen
  2. Let the lockscreen blank
  3. Press ALT+TAB

  What happens:
The application switcher appears and it's possible to switch between
applications. The chosen application will get keyboard focus and any input will
go there.

  What should happen:
Nothing. Lockscreen should grab the keyboard and stop the input from going
anywhere.

This has security implications. For example it's possible to open the
Run command view and run unity --replace to destroy the lockscreen
  and open the session.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1306582] [NEW] not properly focusing multiple windows with mouse scroll

2014-04-11 Thread Boza
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.04
Unity Installed: 7.2.0+14.04.20140410.1-0ubuntu1

In 13.10 DOWN scroll with pointer hovering over multiple launcher icon would go
through application's (1) windows and if there maxmized window of other app
(2), only one instance of (1) will be displayed over (2).
Scroll UP would bring all windows of (1) over (2) one-by-one.

But now, in 14.04, scolling UP does exactly what DOWN works, just in
another direction.

Thats bad desing, because now is impossible to bring up multiple win. of
app quickly.

For instance, I have maximized and focused Firefox open, and 2 windows of
Nautilus behind. Now, I want to copy files from one folder to other by
drag-and-drop.
 - What WOULD I do is: 2 scrolls UP hovering Nautilus launcher icon, and do
copying (because both windows are in front of Firefox).
 - What I NOW need to do. Click or one scroll to bring up one window of
Nautlis, now Click AGAIN to app spread, and select other window!!

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Lock the screen

  What happens:
The application switcher appears and it's possible to switch between
applications. The chosen application will get keyboard focus and any input will
go there.

  What should happen:
Nothing. Lockscreen should grab the keyboard and stop the input from going

Re: [Dx-packages] [Bug 1241101] Re: Java crash in libglib-2.0 after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10

2014-04-11 Thread auspex
Nice idea, David but no luck for me.

I start Eclipse with:
GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Raleigh/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
./adt-bundle-linux-x86_64-20131030/eclipse/eclipse -data .

and do Ctrl-F, and click on Find, Find, Close. Eclipse aborts at
g_object_get_qdata+0x18

I restart Eclipse, find the PID, and do:
$  taskset -p 0x0001 32060
pid 32060's current affinity mask: f
pid 32060's new affinity mask: 1
so, it appears to have worked. I execute the same sequence and Eclipse
aborts at g_object_get_qdata+0x18. Also note:
# An error report file with more information is saved as:
# /home/derek/.../hs_err_pid32060.log
so I had the right PID.

 wrote:

I use Eclipse Kepler 4.3.2 and this bug occurs more often then ever before!
Eclipse also is not the only application crashing with this bug - today I
have seen bugreport also for Gimp.

 Workaround:
 1) Start the Eclipse
 2) find pid of the process
 3) taskset -p 0x0001 pid

The problem is something like with volatile and synchronized; with this I
used two Eclipse instances for 12 hours without a crash!
After restart I forgot to set it again and Eclipse crashed after 5 minutes
 ...

Now again with taskset after 2 hours no problem.

Bug description:
The Super-W keystroke sometimes opens the dash instead of showing all
windows. The behavior seems to depend on how long you hold down the
super key. Tapping + releasing both the super key and w key will open
the dash. Holding down the super key for more than about 0.5sec will
open the spread, no matter how long you hold down the w key.

Oddly I can't reproduce the problem with other super- keystrokes such
as Super-S or Super-T. It only happens with Super-W. A quick tap of
Super-S will reliably open expo mode.

  To reproduce:
  1) Quickly tap Super-W

  Expected results:
  The spread opens

  Actual results:
  The dash opens

I've also tested this using Juno (the version included in Zend Studio
10) and unfortunately share auspex's experience, it doesn't solve the
issue for me.

I also tried explicitly launching the application with an affinity:

taskset 0x0001 zend-studio

with the same reslult.

Title:
Lockscreen: keyboard layout switching shortcuts not working

Status in Unity:
  Triaged
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
New Unity Lockscreen has the same problem as the old one from Gnome: the
chosen keyboard shortcut is not switching keyboard layouts on it, the only way
is to use mouse.
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. To make things uncomfortable, switch layout to Russian or any other with
your favourite shortcut(i am using alt-shift)
  2. Lock the screen with ctrl-alt-l
  3. Try to change layout back to English to enter password
  Expected:
Layput should change and you should be able to login without touching
anything but keyboard.
  What's happening:
Nothing, doesn't react on the keyboard shortcut, you have to change layout
using indicator on top panel.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1306608] Re: Unity global menu delays actions in a gtk2 app

2014-04-11 Thread Sergio Benjamim
** Description changed:

There is a problem with this global menu from Unity, it delays
actions/things i do in the menu. It seems that the information from menu
is not send to the app.

Using vba-m gtk, i can not load saved games until I move the emulator
window. Take a look at the video.

  Step to reproduce:

  - Opens the vba-m emulator
  - Load a ROM
  - Save State in some time
  - Try to Load State (Emulation Load State Most Recent), you will notice
that it will not work
  - Move the emulator window to other place, you will that after you drop the
window, the emulator will load the saved state

  Or:
  - Opens the vba-m emulator
  - Load a ROM
  - Save State in some time
  - Try to Load State, you will notice that it will not work
  - Click in global menu, the menu drops down, and click again to close it, the
emulator will load the saved state after this action

+ Or:
+
+ - Opens the vba-m emulator
+ - Load a ROM
+ - Save State in some time
+ - Try to Load State, you will notice that it will not work
+ - Change to other window (lost focus from vbam), and returns to the emulator
window,it will load the saved state after this action
+
  http://youtu.be/Pwq_7_7oLPk

If i disable the global menu, to use the old gtk2 menu, it works fine
  (env UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 gvbam).

This emulator works fine in others desktops, like xfce, mate and kde.

  To reproduce:

  - Open a window
  - Right click on the desktop to make a popup menu appear, and make it so that
the menu overlaps partially the window
  - Left click on the desktop to make the menu disappear
  - Right click again on the desktop but this time in a different position that
will not cause the menu to overlap the window

  Result:
  - The part of window that was originally covered by the first menu now
displays a hole in the shape of the menu (i.e. it shows the desktop
background instead of the window content).

Moving the window will cause it to repaint and fix the corrupted area.

This happens regardless of the capture_before_unmap option being enabled in
metacity.
This doesn't happen if metacity's compositor is enabled and active.
This was reproduced consistently both with different nvidia cards and with
intel integrated graphics.
This can't be reproduced in a gnome classic session (metacity).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 775508]

2014-04-11 Thread Ajax-a
I'm unable to reproduce this in 1.16. I suspect this was fixed by:

commit a5266dcb3a60587e1877f90c18552baf60b597a0
Author: Ville Syrjala syrj...@sci.fi
Date: Sun Oct 9 01:11:04 2011 +0300

composite: Update borderClip in compAllocPixmap()

And that this is therefore sort of a duplicate of bug #22566.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1302835] Re: unity hud shows through screensaver

2014-04-11 Thread Chris Cheney
I saw it happen this morning but that session was logged in on April 9.
I just logged out and back in after verifying the system is fully up to
date and will monitor to see if the problem occurs again.

Bug description:
New Unity Lockscreen has the same problem as the old one from Gnome: the
chosen keyboard shortcut is not switching keyboard layouts on it, the only way
is to use mouse.
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. To make things uncomfortable, switch layout to Russian or any other with
your favourite shortcut(i am using alt-shift)
  2. Lock the screen with ctrl-alt-l
  3. Try to change layout back to English to enter password
  Expected:
Layput should change and you should be able to login without touching
anything but keyboard.
  What's happening:
Nothing, doesn't react on the keyboard shortcut, you have to change layout
using indicator on top panel.

What you see: There is no way to tell that you are still logged in.

What you should see: It is obvious that you are still logged in.

This is a regression. It will likely lead to confusion and support
calls, as people think the Lock function has logged them out
(discarding unsaved documents, cancelling downloads, and so on) rather
  than just locking the session.

in MacbookAir it do NOT show me it is locked, all I can see it something that

  Steps:
  1. Lock screen
  2. Leave locked for several minutes
  3. Login to unlock

Even after removing the cat, the password entry field was
unresponsive. It was impossible to delete the garbage characters

the mouse was unsuccessful. My only option was to go to a text console

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I went to the vet with cat #2, while cat #1 was at home. Being a
responsible user, I locked my screen with Ctrl-Alt-L before leaving.

When I returned from the vet, cat #1 was sitting on the keyboard of my
Thinkpad x201, and the keyboard buffer of the screensaver's password
  entry field was full.

Even after removing the cat, the password entry field was
unresponsive. It was impossible to delete the garbage characters
entered by cat #1, even trying to get the focus to that dialog using
the mouse was unsuccessful. My only option was to go to a text console
using Ctrl-Alt-F1 and reboot (I know, I could have killed the
screensaver, but for ordinary users this is probably too complex.)

I consider that a bug in unity or the screensaver. Curious cats should
not kill the trusty tahr or its screensaver.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1302663] Re: Unity's Scale UI function problematic on some devices.

2014-04-11 Thread JaSauders
Hello. I am on my same laptop as I was above when I posted this bug
report and after fully updating I noticed some differences. It seems as
if the scaling feature must be taking my resolution into account so it
doesn't scale the UI so far that I cannot revert back. Before, I could
scale from 1 (default) to 4. Now I can only scale from 1 to 1.38. If the
assumption I just mentioned (scaling takes resolution into account to
prevent over-scaling to the point of no return), then this is a welcome
addition. Nonetheless, I wanted to ask/mention it here for some more
insight as I'm curious if my assumption is correct. Thank you for your
time!

Title:
Unity's Scale UI function problematic on some devices.

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I'm running a fully updated (as of 4/1/2014) install of Ubuntu 14.04
64 bit. This is on a Toshiba ultrabook with a mobile i5 processor and
  a 13.3 screen @ 1366x768.

Earlier I was messing with the scale UI mode of the system settings
display field. I set my UI scale to be maxed out at 4. Once done,
windows were so large it was impossible to see. I couldn't even see
any options within system settings besides two. Scrolling of course
helped a bit but it was largely cumbersome.

Once I went into the displays section to turn UI scaling back down to
1, I realized the function was far out of reach on my screen. I tried
to hold down ALT and click to drag the window up beyond the top edge,
but Unity crashed. In fact, every single time I hit the ALT key and
clicked to drag, Unity crashed. Once Unity crashes 2 or 3 times, it
doesn't come back without a hard power down and full startup.

On the flip side, I plugged in an external monitor with a resolution
of 1440x900. Once done, suddenly ALT worked and I had no crashes. I
was able to drag the displays window up until I could see the UI
scaling feature and turn it back down to 1.

There's a few issues here that I feel need to be addressed, since
there's little doubt that people will tinker with these functions.
After all, these features are baked directly in to the interface as
available parameters, but as notated above, settings (such as 4)
render the system into a non-usable (and non-fixable without accessive
  tinkering) state.

Is there a way higher UI scaling modes can be altered for easier
scrolling or maneuvering of windows to reset it back if need be?
Perhaps a work around could even be a reset to defaults button at
the top bar? After all, with a UI scaling of 4, I could see the top of
the window - just very little else. If I could have reset to default
that would have alleviated any headaches.

Thanks for all of your hard work! It's appreciated.

Lost HID-control (keyboard, mouse) after unlock the lock screen while
watching a video in fullscreen mode

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Hi,

when I am watching a Flash video (Youtube) in fullscreen mode, after a while
the lock screen appears.
Then after unlocking the screen by successfully entering my user password the
fullscreen video reappears normaly, but I have not control with the keyboard,
mouse or power-button anymore, so I can't leave the fullscreen mode to exit the
video or shutdown the computer.

None if these keyboard actions are working:
F11 or ESC to leave fullscreen, STRG+ALT+F1 to enter a text console or
STRG+ALT+DEL to reboot.
Also short pressing the power-button has no effect.
The mouse pointer moves, but this takes no effect. Youtube-player overlay is
not showing up and I can't click.
So I have to shutdown the computer the hard way by pressing the power button
5 seconds.

This problem appears since I made the dist-upgrade from 12.10 to 13.04,
before it works perfectly.

  Hello,

I recently upgrade to 14.04. My system uses fglrx provided by 14.04.

When I lock manually the screen, I get no problem. I can even sleep the
system without problem. However,
when the screen is locked by idle time, I cannot unlock it.

At this point, I can see the screen but with some kind of translucent
panel over it. Mouse also works. I tried to type blink the password
but I had no luck. I only get a working system by going text mode
(ctrl+alt+f1) and restarting lightdm. No dmesg or Xorg logs seems to
indicate any error. The only strange log was in .xsession-errors.old:

But as it has no time info, I cannot tell when they happened.

At least another user faces the same problem:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2214421

And this seems to be different from bug 1283938 as pm sleep/wake works

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1303698] Re: curiosity killed the trusty tahr

2014-04-11 Thread Treviño
Eheh, nice story :)

It's quite hard to reproduce unfortunately, both because I've not a cat
here :/ and because also trying to fill the text input, didn't break my
machine. We should probably verify that there's never an overflow.

I just installed all updates for Trusty from the past two weeks (over

I got the usual LightDM log in screen. However, the desktop didn't
load after logging in. Instead, I got a black screen with Apport's
error message saying that there was an internal error in my system.
Both Apport and Firefox that got opened by it are displayed on the
screen without a window and its buttons/menus.

This issue seems to be persistent after reboots. I managed to get to
the desktop by logging to tty1 and then running the startx command.
Applications' windows are now visible with menus but Unity still
doesn't load. Also, the desktop is shown without the background image
but all files/folders are visible and right clicking on the desktop
works. This bug could be related to bug 1277382 (I got a new Apport

The design says warn at 20% on phone, that seems quite high since it should be

But values that I set are still emptied or set to default :(

Eg: from general option -- desktop size --horizontal virtual size

desktops are merged to one)
bur vertical virtual size and number of desktops is each time empty -- I

Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).

Title:
sometimes the dash home list no result matching your query string

Status in LibUnity:
  Triaged
Status in “libunity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “unity-scope-home” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
That's happening in saucy in my current session:

  - open the dash, I get an empty screen with the no result matching
the query string (the wording is not exact, I'm using a french locale
  and doing the approximate translation)

  - type something, results get listed

  - type backspace a few times to clear the entry, apps get listed

  repeat

sometimes clearly the query (either with backspace or esc) leads to
  the empty screen again
