[Dx4win] 1A0 Soviet Order of Malta
Dear John Paul, It is 100% Sovereign, not Soviet. I believe it goes back to days when Malta was in British Empire and was (the whole Island!) awarded the George Cross for gallantry for their outstanding efforts and bravery during World War 2 Kind Regards ? ? That's a good suggestion, Joe. I'd like to see a QSL received date field, but it's also OK to use the Note field, which is what I do now. Joe, That is something that I would also like to see. Being beyond trifocals and using the Varilux style glasses with infinite focal points another problem that I have encountered is the difference between asterisk for credited and a period for a blank spot in the report. More than once I read that wrong. My preference would be a dash or blank for an empty block in the reports. An X in lieu of the asterisk would also work. Just changing one so there is more contrast between them would do it for me. That was a suggestion that I made a few revisions back. 73, Bob K2TK

Does the HP LaserJet run OK with all the other programs that you use? If the driver is really old (older than the operating system you're using) there's a fair chance that you're hitting an incompatibility in the driver. Microsoft changes the driver API every OS _at_least_ and have changed the architecture of device drivers three times since Win95 rendering previous drivers something between unreliable and inoperable. I'm not (really) complaining about MS, just the way things are when you try to advance the OS. What's the model of the LaserJet, version of the driver, and version of the OS? Scolded? Naaa.mildly chastised? Maybe. I use a 19 inch LCD screen.I see absolutely everything fine otherwisewhy should I have to compromise with DX4WIN? The report isn't anything I can change. Why not focus (pardon the pun) on customer satisfaction, since it's something I'd think is quite easily changed. Maybe the COLOR could be changed in the report to emphasize the differences, rather than be limited to black on white? The significant confusion factor is the consistency of vertical and slanted lines seen (pun again) in using the M and W. Here's the example: MMWMMWW MMOMMOO Which is easier to distinguish? 73, Joe WD?M (ex WL7M, which is the same upside down!) [Dx4win] 1A0 Soviet Order of Malta
I found it listed on the CTY list provided with the DX4WIN downloads listed with the S countries as Sov. Mil. Order of Malta. In a related question, as is, the country list is listed in alphabetical order under the county's name in the right side column. Can it be switched to be listed in order of the how the prefixes are listed on the left column versus by country's name? john paul wrote: OK, I had to go to page 112, and add the prefix and the country. It was not on the list. I went through the book and it worked just fine. My country list did not have the 1A0 on the list. That was my original problem, and I could not figure out how to get credit for it. Thanks Again! [Dx4win] Report Improvement Suggestion
Sure, that's a fair comment. But screen real estate is valuable, especially in a multi-window user interface like DX4Win uses. I run at 1600x1200 on a 20 LCD, but I'm a software developer so am a bit odd... ;-) Seriously, I like having my Reports window stretched out. Ditto my spot window. Plus I have 8 or 9 other small windows open. Makes for a nice logging experience. Can't see how that could be done at 640x480. :) Why not make these characters user configurable? Easy. Just takes time and testing. Provide a default button to stop the insanity and return to the recommended values when the user is tired of customizing. It's so easy to make user interface suggestions. I was a UI designer for nearly 10 years, so I have some appreciation for being on the other side of the compiler. 73 Kevin K7VI From: Todd [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: Todd [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Mon, 1 Nov 2004 17:54:59 -0500 To: DX 4 Windows dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Report Improvement Suggestion Hmmm...sounds to me like larger screens or lower screen resolutions are in order :O) I only need reading glasses at this point but and still 1024 x 768, but could always go back to 640 x 480 if I had too :O) I agree fundamentally with the point being made but it sounds like the screens are either too small or resolutions too high for the user. [Dx4win] Sovereign Order of Malta 1A0KM
Gang, I got it figured out last night. I went to page 112 in the book, followed the directions and now have that country on my list. I either deleted it somehow, or it was not there. I have no idea why; but, it was not there. I now have it in there and appreciate all the help. By the way, I did spell it correctly as the Sovereign Order of Malta, not the Soviet I caught that early on and corrected it. Sorry for all the trouble and bandwidth. I then rebooted and woila! it worked. I am guessing there was a glich in the drivers and that has solved it. I have it working now and hopefully that takes care of the problem. Yes, all of the other programs I ran with it, i.e. Word, etc ran fine and did not have any problems. It was only when I went to print out labels from the DX4WIN program or any of the reports. I kept getting the same error message. I am hoping the problem is corrected.
