[Dx4win] Ve7cc and P5??

2011-12-11 Thread Hugh Valentine
When configuring VE7CC to allow spots to DX4WIN, I notice in the AS country
list, there is no P5(VE7CC). Since P5 is so needed, why is it not there. Just
curious.
Or, is this a VE7CC question?

[Dx4win] Wish List - Spots

2011-12-10 Thread Hugh Valentine
As stated earlier: I would like to see the ability to see only spots needed
for band Challenge.
In other words, If I have a band that has at least one mode confirmed, I would
not see the Any mode spots for that band. This clutters up the DX Spots
screen. So many of us are interested in the Challenge now. Once a Band
country has been confirmed, I don't need to see additional spots for
CW/Phone,etc...if I have that band country confirmed...excuse meEntity.

Also, a combined startup for the Cluster Connect when DX4WIN is Opened would be
very nice. I am not sure if it can be done in 8.05.

Thanks to everyone who has made DX4WIN what it is today. I enjoy it and have
become dependent upon its powers.

Re: [Dx4win] Challenge Spots

2011-11-08 Thread Hugh Valentine
I surely am not a programmer, but would it be possible to link the "priority"
through the Awards? Then you could set it up for any Awardsuch as the
Challenge to accomplish this desired result.

With the Challenge gaining in popularity ( Most "Old" Dxers have attained
DXCC, WAS, WAZ, etc.) and since most are addicted with the incurable "Ham-O-
Holic" Virus, and ARRL is linking the Challenge to LOTW...the numbers of
Challenge Chasers is immense. This would be a great feature in DX4WIN.

Thanks,

I would add my name to the list of requestors for the ability to change the
order of priorities in Packet2. For example, I just started chasing RTTY
countries, so that mode is not confirmed on any band with any country. But
if a DX spot appears for a country that I have worked on one band, but not
on another band, it still is always priority 4. Since I know it will be
awhile before I get the confirmations, I would love to temporarily swap
priority levels 4 and 5.

Yes you have right. This way (deactivating ssb) you will not see an ssb qso

you need for a band slot.
I don't know a solution. I didn't undertand it ok.
You want ssb qsos but only for new band slots not for new mode. Beside this
the most important is that dx4win gives priority to the mode and not to the
band. If a qso is new mode (ssb) and new band also, you will see new mode
(not interesting for you) but there is no way to know that is a new band.
So you need to change priorites.
I don't think this can be done but it's useful for sure.

Paul, can we define cluster priorities in the next version? For example if i

need the new band to be number 2 and new mode a grey spot, etc...

[Dx4win] Challenge Spots

2011-11-07 Thread Hugh Valentine
I have tried most everything I can think of to solve this, maybe someone can
help me.

I am interested in seeing only NEW or Unconfirmed Band spots in my Packet
Screen window.

Somehow I have not figured out how to do this. I keep getting new Band Mode
Spots in with my "needed to confirm" Band spots for the Challenge. These
clutter my screen as I am mostly CW and there are a lot of SSB (Mode)Spots
coming through, event though I have confirmed the country on CW on that band.
If it is a new Band country I need to work or confirm, I don't mind the
Spot(Mode) as if I work it I get Challenge credit.

How and can I accomplish this?

Thanks for any insight. 73

[Dx4win] ST0R Spots

2011-08-03 Thread Hugh Valentine
I just noticed something.
I saved the new country files right before ST0R was activated.
  Thanks Jim!

When ST0R is spotted on a new Band, the spot shows as yellow on the Packet
screen(New Country). And, obviously I have not confirmed the contact via QSL
or LOTW.

However, unlike every other country I have worked but not confirmed, which
spots in red letters, My packet screen does not show spots of ST0R on any band
on which I have previously made a QSO.

Can anyone give me some reason for this? And how to correct?

All other countries I have worked but not yet confirmed show in Red letters.
Why not ST0R? the spot simply does not show.

Thanks,

Val

[Dx4win] Radio Control works with N1MM, but not DX4WIN

2011-07-15 Thread Hugh Valentine
Ft-920
Win 7

Baud and Com Port set at same for DX4WIN and N1MM.
Radio does not track with DX4WIN. It will grab a spot from the band map. but
when turning VFO or changing Bands, the Band Map will not move with the Radio.

Winkeyer for CW.

Keying fine in N1MM, But although the internal keyer in DX4WIN shows messages
in it's window, the DX4WIN doesn't key the rig.

Any suggestions?

Any help appreciated. My already thinning hair is falling out with this. The
DX4WIN tracking worked a few months ago.

[Dx4win] Changing the QSO date on a Contest weekend of Contacts????

2010-04-19 Thread Hugh Valentine
I have located a log error. In the 1996 CQWW 160 contest, I must have
introduced a one day error in my CT contest program.
Most of the QSOs are one day early.

For example, I have a lot of QSOs listed at Jan 25th when the contest didn't
start until the 26thditto for the 26/27th.

I have read and read but cannot find a way to isolate these dates and change
all of them as a group rather as individual modification750 QSOs.

I see where you can set up a Group...I Imagine that this is the route to
take...That isset the 25th as a group, then change those dates up one day,
etc. But i just cant seem to get this isolated.

Is this possible to do, and could someone walk me through it?

Thanks,
Val

[Dx4win] Mystery-Lost confirmation on CW

2010-03-11 Thread Hugh Valentine
I ran across something interesting and wonder if someone can tell me why it is
happening?

I have all countries confirmed on CW, except P5.
My "Countries" window shows CP, Bolivia, confirmed on 15 CW.

However, if I do a DXCC-CW-Needed search in Awards window, I get P5 and also CP
listed as "needed", eventhough the logbook and countries window clearly shows
CP confirmed. If I do a Logbook search querying in CP, CW, QSL/Conf as Y...I
get a CP contact that fills the Log window.

I have 15M...along with all bands 160-10 checked in Prefs. Also CW and SSB are
my only Modes checked.

Any ideas as to what is going on? Or, what to check or test to see why I have
CP coming up as Needed when it is confirmed?

Tnx and 73

[Dx4win] Keying Lockdown Ver8.03

2010-02-03 Thread Hugh Valentine
Observation:
When first keying, after lockdownand Keyer is sending CQCQetc, but a steady
Lockdown is in progress.
I went to Settings in Keyer.watching voltage as holding at +6.6 V.
When I select "Tune"nothing happens, but when I hit "stop", the voltage
reverts back to -6.6V and the keying lock down stops. I can then select Tune
and it tunes, Stop and it stops, controlling the voltages.

The Keying program can actually manually interrupt. (But it does not interrupt
the Lock down while the Keyer has been activated). Does this not isolate the
problem to something within the Keyer alone?

[Dx4win] Keying Issues-Voltage Comparisons

2010-02-01 Thread Hugh Valentine
GUY,and others,
I just finished measuring some voltages around the Keying transistor 2n, 1K
resistor, and Pin 4 of USB serial plug. Key Up and Tune.

Computer: Brand new HP Pavillion Vista 64 bit. Triplett Model 60 Volt-Ohm
meter.
Voltages measured against Ground(Pin 5) of Serial Line out of computer.
Prolific USB/Serial-latest software to include Win Vista.

I measured running N1MM Logger program and also DX4WIN Ver 8.03
**
Key UP..
N1MM(which keys rig perfectly):
Pin 4 -6.6V Transistor Input -6.6V Transistor Output 0. V

DX4WIN
Pin 4 -6.6V Transistor Input -6.6V Transistor Output 0. V

^^^
KEY DOWN...
N1MM Used both sending CW and TUNE
Pin 4 +6. V Transistor Input +0.7V Transistor Output 0 Volts and
Transistor is shorted to ground and keys rig.

DX4WIN( Hit F1 on Keying Tab sending CQ)
Pin 4 +6. V Transistor Input +0.7V Transistor Output 0 Volts and transistor
is shorted to ground but does not send CW-It is continuous even though the
keyer is sending/showing CQ CQ DE N4RJ, etc...
-
Using COM 4 4800 8 n 1 Under DX4WIN prefs, COM4, CW, None(for PTT)
it doesnt matter if the radio is on or off, or any other variables are changed.
 it still keys continuous.

Obviously the keying circuit is satisfactory. Something in DX4WIN is telling
something in the computer to hold that keying circuit in a continuously keyed
state. The open voltages are identical, the closed voltages are identical. It
just doesnt go high and low in DX4WIN.

Any ideas?

[Dx4win] Keying "Lock down" issues

2010-02-01 Thread Hugh Valentine
Quite a few of us are still dead in the water with the Keying issue Locking
down in DX4WIN and can't get things running, and are struggling. Some have
computer skills and background, some of us (Me for one) have little to none.

Seems the people who are skilled have their programs running well and cannot
duplicate our situation and, thus, cannot find our solutions.

I have been in contact with several who are stuck, compared notes, and are
trying to be a lucky Blind Hog and find the Acorn.

I know I may be way off base, but I have looked in the "Drivers" folders in my
setups and find different drivers. I have no idea of whether this is
significant, just asking if someone else does, and if this is a possible
problem or normal. I am listing the findings below found on my 2 computers.

Windows Vista 64 bit Laptop-"Drivers" Ver8.03=TVicHW32.dll
(Note: 32 not 64 in filename)

PC running Vista 32 Bit-"Drivers" Ver8.03=LPTdriver
Ver8.02=vichwll.sys and vichwll.vxd
Ver7.05=vichwll.sys and vichwll.vxd

I dont see any serial ports listed here, probably not supposed to be.

Like I said, just grasping and I dont know anything about computer setups, this
is a desperate observation and comparison.

Is the 32.dll significant in a 64 bit Vista?

Val

P.S. Anyone else who is having this problem, please email me at

Just to confirm something Hugh. The issue that Jim is referring to was
never reported with 8.02, only 8.03. Are you saying you have the same
issue running 8.02? BTW, I tried to duplicate this problem on 4
different computers with .03 and it works fine... I think Paul and beta
testers have tried it on more than a dozen.

[Dx4win] Info on Setup

2010-01-30 Thread Hugh Valentine
I am at this point with Keying using DX4WIN program...(Keying via this Port and
Interface/Transistor works fine with N1MM.)

I am measuring voltages at the Serial Port, pin 4 of the Keying line(also the
pin 7 of PTTdoes same. ( I have USB to Serial Cable through a box for
interface which houses two Transistor keying Circuits for CW and PTT.
Ports set properly...all I think are set within operating parameters.

Symptom=Keying and or PTT Lines remain "Key down, continuous" when any attempt
to send CW via Com Port. (Also, software to USB/Serial cable is latest and for
Vista 32 and 64 bit...certified cable.) Radio is "On" mode and connected to
Ft-920 and CAT control is fully enabled and tracking. Poll rate 5000ms(
Changed from 500 to 5000 to see if matters-no changes)

I measure voltage at Transistor input from the DB9 DTR line at 6.43 Volts Key
up. Once I send CW through the DX4WIN Keyer, the voltage goes to .4 Volts and
the Ft-920 keying line is sending one continuous note on cw and will not let up
unless you either exit the program and start over, or "Stop Radio". When you
select "Start Radio" again, the voltage goes back to 6.4 volts at the
Transistor(s) and radio. But, once you try to send CW through DX4 WIn the
keying is "key down" and holds until you select "Stop Radio/then Start Radio".

I cannot change any config in DX4WIN that will fix this. I have Uninstalled
8.03 and Reinstalled 8.02. Still malfunctions.

Any more thoughts?? I need some Rocket Scientist or Fortune Teller at this
juncture.

[Dx4win] Brain Damage

2010-01-24 Thread Hugh Valentine
I think I have over radiated my brain from 54 years of Hamming.

I am trying to get computer control for band changing, and CW keying going. I
have built an interface box to do this using one USB to Serial cable on a
Windows Vista 64 bit. I used my old keying interface I used to use on CT. I
took an old serial cable to go from the box to the CAT interface.

I have DX4WIN Ver 8.02 and also N1MM loaded on the computer.

Facts: The interface, using COM4, will activate the CAT port on the FT-920 but
the CW is a continuous Tone. The Interface will Key the CW in N1MM fine, but
no CAT control.

What is going on? Any Rocket builders or Techno dudes that can give me some
insight so I can do CW and CAT control on both programs/N1MM and DX4WIN? I'm
fried.

Im using DX4WIN for Logging and Award control and general keying, and N1MM for
contesting.

Thanks for any insights.

2009-12-28 Thread Hugh Valentine
For those who are using the DX4WIN Keyer to Key your rigsAnd have newer
computers that do not have LPT-1 ports, just USB
How do you do it?
I finally got a USB to Serial cable that would drive the Band Change on the
FT-920, and now I am ready to Key the rig using DX4WIN.

Thanks and HNY

[Dx4win] QSO window Mode BOX

2009-12-21 Thread Hugh Valentine
I only work a handful of Modes. When I go to Log a new QSO, All of the modes
are listed. Is there a way to just list the 3-4 modes I work? And, the proper
box auto-selects?
For example, If I hist the "S" key it defaults to SSB, but if I hit the "C" key
for CW it goes to Clover or someting? Shouldn't this be linked to your
original modes you select in Prefs?
Am I missing some selection somewhere?
Does my question have merit?
Same thing for Bands. If I have selected say, 40 meters, when I Log a QSO
after selecting the Mode, if I should hit the 4 it should default to 40M if I
haven't selected say 432 or 4cm or whatever in Prefs if the 4 is only connected
to the 40 meter band..??? Logical??

Is anyone successfully using this combination? Or FT-920 and Vista?
AD1C says Windows/vista and CT10 wont work together.
What Contest Programs is anyone using with windows 7?
