[Dx4win] Notes to Add to Wrong Field

2010-05-03 Thread J.F. Samuels
I recently upgraded from release 7 to 8. I participated in the Florida QSO
Party last weekend and added the QSOs from ADIF. I set the Contest Mode |
Notes to Add field to FQP and loaded the records. Today I received a QSL
and noticed that the FQP is appearing in the Notes for this Call, not Notes
for this QSO. I searched the forum, but do not see this reported before.
How can I fix this for 500 QSOs? Is it fixed in 8.4?

[Dx4win] Ver. 8.03 PF3 Not Working

2010-03-29 Thread J.F. Samuels
I just upgraded from 7.04 and can't get any action from PF3 at all. I've gone
back through the mailing list entries all the way back to the announcement of
version 8, but can't find a similar post. The online QRZ works OK when I press
ENTER.

For many years and versions I have used a batch file to search two private text
databases, concatenate the output, and copy it to MAN.RES, which I TYPE out.
Then the on-disk QRZ prints out, then the QSL manager file. None of this
provides any output at all now.

Any clues?

Re: [Dx4win] Pre-1975 CW QSOs

I have CW QSOs dating as far back as 1952. I always have to use a special

been around a long time, but it burns me every time I submit for DXCC!

Re: [Dx4win] Pre-1975 CW QSOs

2009-03-22 Thread J.F. Samuels
Hi, Bob,

Well, your reply went to me, rather than the whole group, so I will forward
it on.

I am afraid there is no easy fix for substituting any other character for
the dot or asterisk; those characters are hard-coded into the program. They
would need to be defined in the program as a variable, and a way provided
for you to set that variable. Not a real difficult programming task, but
not a high priority, in the scheme of things. Maybe you need new specs...

I have upgraded to each new version, although not usually right when a
totally new version comes out - I wait for the bugs to be fixed..

Amen...

Well, almost my as QSO's only go back to '56.I'm still using version
5.02. Based on my usage
of the program there is no incentive to update it. A fix for this
bug would provide one.

Another issue I have, and I'll state it is mine not a bug, is with the
reports. If I do a
Report/DXCC/Listing what happens is that a never worked is a dot and a
fully confirmed and
credited item is an asterisk. More than once these tired eyes have been
confused and not seen the
difference. So what I would love to see is the ability to change
these. Say leave the dot out and
have a blank or substitute a dash in it's place. Or make the asterisk
an X or something so the
difference is more easily discernible.

If not to be part of an update/upgrade does anyone know how to do this?

[Dx4win] Wish list

2009-03-18 Thread J.F. Samuels
I might as well get on the band-wagon. Someone pointed out that it should
not be so difficult to provide the mode for a contact. I do a lot of mobile
work and log on a voice recorder, which I manually log into DXW every few
days. I REALLY would like to be able to use a C for CW, P for PSK31,
R for RTTY and S for SSB and not have to sort through a myriad of other
modes, used from my home station from time-to-time.

I have the same problem for band, but am not sure how it could be
implemented. It would help if I could roll the mouse wheel to select the
correct operating band.

Thanks for the continued support, Paul and gang!

[Dx4win] Rigblaster Pro Interface

2008-12-07 Thread J.F. Samuels
I do not have everything set up right now, but when I did I ended up using a
cable directly from a serial port to my rig, not through the RigBlaster Pro
- this worked for me, but needed an extra serial port. The ports going to
the RigBlaster Pro were SER A for PTT/CW and SER B for MixW, MMTTY FSK. I
had to modify the internal jumpering in the RigBlaster Pro a bit to allow
FSK on Serial B.

The Serial B port has only three connections: Receive Data, Transmit Data
and Ground. This is not enough to communicate with a radio! I do not know
why they did not pass the connections through from Serial A.

Hi everyone.

I am using a Rig Blaster Pro with a Yaesu FT-950. All functions of the Rig
Blaster work as expected.

But in setting up the Rig Blaster pro as described in the manuals, the
ability of having DX4WIN follow the band and mode changes of the radio has
been lost.

Is anyone out there using a Rig Blaster Pro with any radio and STILL have
DX4WIN automated response to the radio's mode?

By that I mean that when using the Rig Blaster for digital modes, the DX4WIN

[Dx4win] DX4WIN v7.05.04 with Icom 7800 interface problem

2008-11-22 Thread J.F. Samuels
Make sure that in Main Menu | Radio that Ignore Mode in Real Time is NOT
checked.

John, K2CIB

All,

I am helping a new DX4WIN user install, configure, and connect the CI-V
interface between his radio and his computer. He purchased the www.cqpal.com
CI-V interface on e-Bay and we've selected the Icom 7800 v210 500 radio
with an address of 6A and baud rate of 6400. Some DX4Win interface functions
are working, but one doesn't work. (?)

Here's what works:

- Clicking on a Packet Spot changes the 7800 VFO frequency and mode to match
the spot's frequency and mode.

- The QSO - Contest Mode - Text to QSO Note -- $$ logs the correct VFO
frequency to a new QSO record.

BUT... DX4Win does not read the correct band (frequency) when logging.

Pressing F9 puts 20m (the default QSO band) into the Band field for a
new QSO, and after logging a QSO (despite the fact that the QSO Notes $$

read the frequency properly) the band field reads 20m.

What am I doing wrong here? (his 7800 is a firmware 210 release)

[Dx4win] RE: QSLing Direct

2008-09-06 Thread J.F. Samuels
Jim, I like your tongue-in-cheek query!

Really, everyone has slightly different ways of preparing to QSL. Some do
it right away, some infrequently, some use a service, others use a
combination of ARRL Outgoing service and direct. I am of the latter, and I
don't QSL very frequently. When I do, I want to make sure that I have the
best address possible, particularly for the direct ones; now each overseas
QSL costs me over $3.00.

I start by searching for Label=Y and Method=Direct. When I hit F3 in
the CALL field, I get a window that is the result of searching the
following:

1. QRZ! on my disk
2. ON6DP Manager List
3. World-wide IBM Hams list
4. Current GO-List

By inspecting the above, I can (usually) make a quick determination of the
best route. I trust the GOLIST most and they will supply a route too.
Whatever route I select, I highlight it and copy it (Ctrl-C or right-click
and use the options there) to the clipboard. For mailing direct to a call, I
put the station's call in the Manager field. If the QSO Manager call is
right, I just click in the QSO Manager field and use Ctrl-E to bring up the
manager address. If the address is right, I close the box and go on. If
not, I highlight the incorrect address, and paste in the correct one
(Ctrl-V). Sometimes I have to shorten the name or address fields to fit
properly on labels. Then I save the address, and go on to the next call
using PF10. Sometimes I change a direct routing to Bureau or Other.

It sounds complicated, but QSLing is an art, not a science! And, it goes
quickly once you've started.

I use a special .BAT file in the EXTDATA folder to call a free program
called QGREP. That program searches the ON6DP and IBM Hams lists, or any
other lists you have, and makes the output available for display. Send me
an Email if you want a copy of the .BAT file.

[Dx4win] Label Questions

2008-07-12 Thread J.F. Samuels
Hmmm, maybe It's been too long since I QSLed, but I have a few questions.
Maybe someone knows the answers:

1. I wanted to only print those labels which meet the selection of
Confirmed=Y and Label=Y. When I tried to print labels, it would not take
the selection - it wanted to print all of them. So, I created a new file
using DX4WIN export version 6.01 and later, the latest export filter I have
(I'm running V7.03). The file it created had a DXQ extension, not DXL, so
couldn't be opened. Or, should I have used the import function?
2. So, I created an ADIF file instead, created a new DXL file and
imported that. I had my 144 QSOs OK, although the Label field lost the Y's.
I used that file to print the labels I needed OK.
3. Now I need to use the Multiple QSO function to place today's date in
the 144 selected ones in the real file. Whoops, it uses the QSO date.???
What did I do wrong there? I guess I'll have no trouble resetting the print
flag, but I need a good date. And, I could import them, replacing the
originals, but I think that ADIF fails to carry along much needed fields,
like Checked, etc., so can't do that.

I just went back and created a new blank file, and imported the Version 6
file. Now I see all of the fields OK, but every record now says,
Invalid(DX). The preferences are OK and I re-imported them just in case.

Where do I go from here?

2006-06-10 Thread J.F. Samuels
Message: 3

Date: Wed, 7 Jun 2006 19:13:00 +0200

I haven't seen much light on this problem. Let me guess what is going on:

Obviously, seen from previous posts, DX4WIN checks the operating system
identifier during installation to determine which CW driver to use or what
library to put it in. If you have copied DX4WIN from another computer, you
need to copy the VICHW11.SYS file into the new computer.

I suspect that your new operating system, Win XP Pro x64, is not known to
DX4WIN, so it does not copy the file, or copies it to the wrong library.
Conventional wisdom would suggest that manually copying the file to the
drivers directory would solve the problem. But, it is possible that the new
operating system requires an entry in the registry in order to load drivers,
or a different library is being used.

Are there any other DX4WINners out there who are using DX4WIN with Win XP
Pro x64 successfully?

A while back there was some info about using FGREP

to search a text file and display the result when

using F3. At one time I had it working with a version

of DX4Win but I can't seem to get it to work now. I've

gone back through the archives with no luck. The batch

file I'm using extracts the info from the text file but

doesn't seem to copy it to manager.res. Any ideas?
