[Dx4win] Turning off QSL label options
I've forgotten how to do this and can't find the proper help section to figure it out. In Print QSL labels there are checkbox options for Print QSL Manager Labels, Print Method Labels, etc. They're checked by default. I can uncheck them manually each time, but I'd rather have them unchecked permanently, because I sometimes forget. But I can't figure out how to do that. Looked in Databases/Labels, in Preferences, still can't fine it. Can anyone help me find it? [Dx4win] DX4Win not operating properly
Hello all! DX4Win 9.0.6.1228 has been working well for some time. Until today. When I opened it I received some sort of configuration errors (which I unfortunately didn't write down). Then the only windows to open were the log and "main" window at the top. No DXCC, no WPX, no packet, no band map, nothing else. Plus, my log file, which is current through August 30, only shows QSOs through February 16, 2008. I rebooted my Windows 7 machine (I know, I know) and that didn't change anything. Any idea what went wrong or what I should do now? [Dx4win] Interfacing DX4Win and Icom 7610
I've downloaded the appropriate 7610 .RIG files into the Radios folder and have tried setting up my 7610 with a direct USB connection to the computer. But however I try I can't get the 7610 to interface with DX4Win (or N1MM, either, it's not just DX4Win). Has anyone who's gotten this to work able to walk me through it? This used to be a lot simpler with other rigs (using an interface) and I figured it would be even easier with the 7610 direct connection. That doesn't seem to be the case, at least not for me. Paul, Thank you so much! That's exactly what it was, no country.dat file in the \save folder. Copied one over from \backup and I'm good to go. And if it happens again, I now know what to do. 73, Joe KQ3F -Original Message- From: Paul Van Der Eijk [mailto:pvandere...@gmail.com] Sent: Saturday, July 21, 2018 12:53 PM To: Joe Stepansky Cc: DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Error message Close the program and check that the file save\country.dat is present. I have seen multiple reports of this file disappearing. I speculate that this is due to an overzealous virus checker. You likely have a backup copy in the backup sub-directory. Also check if you use a secondary backup that is on a network drive or USB stick. One interesting thing is that after pressing F9 the date field is blank, the time is 00:00 (which it isn't right now), the county field shows Fqso_cntyStrIx, Custom Award shows Fqso_award and Custom award value shows Fqso_award_value. [Dx4win] Question about award alerts
Hello everyone! I just upgraded to version 9 and have a question about WPX award alerting in the DX spots window. I set File/Awards/WPX to show ONLY 12 meters as an award band (I have endorsements for the other bands). But in the DX spots window, I get red lettered spots for 30 and 17 meters. Until.. If I go back into File/Awards/WPX, I still see only 12 meters checked for award bands. When I hit OK, the spots that were previously red in the DX spots window are no longer red. They become green bars. Anyone know what else I need to do? Again, I don't change anything in File/Awards/WPX, I simply press OK and everything changes to the way I want it (no red spots for bands other than 12 meters). [Dx4win] LOTW upload question
I goofed on a recent LOTW upload but can't seem to get DX4Win 8.03 to correct it and move on. I did a filtered LOTW Export and unfortunately put it in my old 8.02 folder rather than the 8.03 folder. [Dx4win] Problem with the F2 key
I noticed that when I press the F2 key to log a QSL, DX4Win creates a new outgoing label for the QSO I just confirmed and for which I had originally sent a QSL (the QSL Date field has a date in it, indicating I've already printed a label). I've gone through the preferences, and in the F2 Key tab, only the box labeled "Mark QSO as confirmed" is checked, not the one labeled "Mark for printing a Label". And on the QSO tab, the "QSL card" in the Label/Upl flag box isn't checked (I thought I'd like the auto label feature, but for me it got annoying). I've tested this with a number of QSOs for which I've already received QSLs (and had sent one previously), yet DX4Win keeps generating labels for those same QSOs. I'm using version 8.02. In my prior life with version 7, if I received a QSL but hadn't yet sent one, pressing F2 would confirm the QSL and generate a label. If I'd already sent a QSL, it would just do the confirmation, not produce another label. What am I missing? 73, Joe KQ3F __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] WPX alarm anomaly
I tried finding this in the reflector archives but couldn't. While I REALLY like version 8, there's something I got working properly in version 7 that no longer seems to work in version 8. I have WPX for most bands except 30, 17 and 12 meters. I'd rather not get alarms for new prefixes on bands I no longer care about, such as 40. So in version 7 I told DX4Win that all bands (except 60 meters, for my purposes) were valid for WPX (so I wouldn't miss new mode prefixes), but I only wanted 30, 17 and 12 to be "valid" for band award purposes. I've done the same thing in version 8, but it tells me about every "new" prefix on bands I no longer care about. I checked my old version 7 settings for WPX and they appear identical to my version 8 settings so far as bands are concerned (all bands except 60 valid for the award, but only 30, 17 and 12 considered for award purposes). Has something changed or did something break, because it doesn't seem to work the way it used to? 73, Joe KQ3F __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] Countries not showing as checked
Thanks to Jim, AD1C, the problem is solved. To make a long story short. When I first went to DX4Win I needed to "catch up" on my DXCC "checked" confirmations. So I simply picked the first QSL for each country and marked it "checked". The problem with that is many of those QSLs (u, 80, to be precise) were pre-1/1/75, and ineligible for CW DXCC (I'd actually submitted QSLs for QSOs after 1/1/75 for DXCC). It should have hit me when I saw the countries not "checked" were things like DL, F, G, etc. All worked when I was a youngin'. 73, Joe KQ3F -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Joe Stepansky Sent: Friday, November 20, 2009 12:54 AM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] Countries not showing as checked I just upgraded from version 7 to version 8.02 and have an interesting problem. RE: [Dx4win] DX4Win doesn't recognize the rig (solved)
As I guessed, the problem was never with DX4Win, the problem was between my two ears. Here's what happened, in case it might benefit someone else. I'm clearly in some alternate universe. In the Rigblaster manual there are a number of ways to configure In/Out A and In/Out B for rig control, PTT, CW and FSK. I circled the settings the rig control, PTT and CW on In/Out A (goes to COM1), and FSK on In/Out B (goes to COM3). That means I must have selected the jumper for that setting, right? No, that would be something a normal person would do, actually doing what's "circled". For some reason, I have FSK, PTT and CW on In/Out A and rig control on In/Out B. None of that is circled, of course (well, IT IS NOW). I figured it out by trying, for the umpteenth time, to Start Radio. Then I noticed a brief flicker of light on the Rigblaster. It was the FSK indicator. So I tried to Start Radio again. The FSK indicator flickered 6 times. HEY, that's the number of tries I specified. I wonder if.NO, couldn't be. Could it? Plugged In/Out B into COM3, specified COM3 for rig control, and you can all guess what happened. My brothers have this word they call me, which is now apparently all too true...DOPE! Apologies to all for the waste of time. 73, Joe KQ3F _ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Joe Stepansky Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2008 3:52 PM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] DX4Win doesn't recognize the rig For whatever reason, my newly installed DX4Win 7 won't see my rig. Rig control on the Rigblaster is connected to CI-V remote jack on the 756 PRO II. Here's the set up under the Preferences/Radio tab: Type - Icom 756 PRO II Address - 64 (I've verified the address on the rig screen) Baud - 9600 Com Port - COM1 Poll Rate - 5000 Max Tries - 6 DTR High - Off (When I leave this on the rig keys continuously) RTS High - Off (When I leave this on the PTT is on continuously) Any ideas? 73, Joe KQ3F ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win
RE: [Dx4win] omnirig
Oh, make no mistake, I'm not saying DX4Win is the problem. In fact, I just tested CW and PTT in DX4Win via the same COM1 that the rig control is supposed to be on, and they both worked just fine. I'm going to pull out my old CI-V box, just in case the problem is with the RigBlaster. 73, Joe KQ3F -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Kostas SV1DPI Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2008 4:54 PM To: REFLECTOR dx4win Subject: [Dx4win] omnirig i have seen that many have problems one or other way with rig control. [Dx4win] Restoring previous configuration
I lost my hard drive two weeks ago and am now working with a new machine. Seems like a good time to do my long awaited upgrade to version 7. Anyway, I backed up the version 6 files and wonder if I can simply copy a config file (the one with the CFG extension) over to the new DX7 folder and restore all my settings. Things like what port the radio is on and my custom QSL settings. The manual mentions writing an INI file, but I figured I'd ask before proceeding. Thanks! 73, Joe KQ3F ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win
[Dx4win] Unable to add FJ
OK, it now works. Thanks to Gary, VE1RGB and Bob, W5OV. I could have sworn I was doing it exactly as Kostas and Gary mentioned in step by step fashion. But Bob put it in narrative form and somehow that worked. As I mentioned to Bob, I'm absolutely convinced I was doing the Countries/Update before trying the Mappings, but maybe my brain was seeing something that wasn't there, don't know. Anyway, problem solved. Still don't like the process, but I'll save these emails because there will probably be more countries/entities in 2008. 73 and THANKS, Joe KQ3F At 10:47 PM 12/20/2007 -0500, Joe Stepansky wrote: >As further information, I followed Kostas's instructions to the letter, >several times. As further information, I followed Kostas's instructions to the letter, several times. I've now updated DX4Win to Expert mode, though Help notes I only need Advanced mode. I filled out everything in the Details tab. I continue to get NO data entry boxes either in the Mappings or Callsigns tabs, no matter what I do. 73, Joe KQ3F At 10:34 PM 12/20/2007 -0500, Joe Stepansky wrote: >I've been unable to add FJ. [Dx4win] Unable to add FJ
I've been unable to add FJ. I've changed the FJ mapping in FS to end on 12/13/2007. That took. But when I attempted to add FJ (with the help screen open), I was able to enter the initial mapping, but when I attempt to add a mapping (as instructed by the Help screen), I get no entry boxes. The Mappings tab appears, but it's all gray, no boxes to enter any data. So I save the changes and exit, shut down DX4Win, reopen it, and FJ is not there. I'm able to repeat this on every occasion. The callsigns tab is also completely gray when open. I'm in Advanced mode and my version is 6.03. I won't bother to ask why this is such a convoluted and counterintuitive provess. 73, Joe KQ3F
[Dx4win] Search for unconfirmed prefixes
Thanks to both Jim, AD1C and Larry, K8UT for pointing me in the proper direction. I wasn't sure if using Labels -> Mark for QSL would be the path to go but that's apparently it. I'll play around with it now to see how it works. [Dx4win] Search for unconfirmed prefixes
I always work some new prefixes in DX contests. Right now it looks as though I have to go through the log manually, keeping an eye on the prefix window, to determine whether or not I've confirmed the prefix on a particular mode. This isn't normally a problem, but when you work 1000+ QSOs in a weekend it can get time consuming. Is there a way I can ask DX4Win to go through, say, my ARRL DX CW test QSOs and tell me which of those QSOs have callsign prefixes that I haven't yet confirmed on CW? I've read a number of the questions regarding filtering but am not sure any of them pertain to this situation. 73, Joe KQ3F
[Dx4win] re: Disappearing spots
On what I call the DX Spots window (as opposed to the Packet Window), right click with your mouse. You'll see a variety of options, including DXCC colors, WAZ colors and WPX colors. I called them "modes" but the program description uses "colors". I think I've found my problem (it always seems to work that waylook at something for awhile, then ask for help and figure it out). The culprit is in Preferences/Packet1. I checked "Ignore 'Gray' spots". I simply wanted to make things less cluttered. In the case of XF4DL, I'd already worked another XF4 years ago, so I had that covered for WPX purposes. So even though I needed XF4 on, say, 30 meters, I didn't need it for WPX (and 30 meters isn't valid for WPX anyway). XF4DL would appear in a red bar on the DXCC colors (mode), but when I switched to WPX colors I'll bet XF4 was "gray" and, therefore, ignored. Gone. So when I went back to DXCC colors, it was also gone. It's a theory, I might be wrong about the cause. I've been testing my theory by unselecting the "Ignore 'Gray' spots" box in Preferences/Packet1 and so far all spots in DXCC colors seem to stay even after switching to WPX colors and back. So what's a little clutter, you should see my shack! 73, Joe KQ3F At 07:36 AM 10/21/2006 +0200, Vanderydt Theo wrote: >What do you mean by switching to different modes Joe? [Dx4win] Disappearing spots
I'm still running version 6.03 (I do mean to upgrade) and have noticed something strange. It's happened with other spots but I could never remember the station callsign. But now it's happening with XF4DL. When I get a spot for, say, 30 meters, DX4Win lists the spot in the "spot window" (for lack of a better name), which I've sorted by Priority and also have "gray" spots suppressed. Because I need them on 30 meters, a red bar appears with the callsign in white, I believe that's priority code 3. So far, so good. This is in "DXCC" mode. When I switch to "WPX" mode and then back to "DXCC" mode, the XF4DL spots are gone. Again, it's happened with other callsigns, but this is the first one I can remember. Any idea what's going on? Why would a spot disappear by switching to WPX and back to DXCC mode again? 73, Joe KQ3F
[Dx4win] QSL printing question
I'm still exploring DX4WIN full capabilities (so far, WOW), and have a QSL printing question. I'd like to make a custom label to print on my existing QSLs. I understand the basics of creating the custom label, but wonder if there's a way to increase the distance between each QSO on a label, or even the callsign and the first QSO. I ask because I never contemplated printing directly to the QSL when ordering them about a year ago, and I have a section with preprinted boxes for multiple QSOs (one row for each qso then separate columns for date, time, freq, mode and rst. Is there any way to tell DX4WIN "For QSL printing, I want each QSO to be spaced farther apart than you normally do and I also want each QSO "element" to be spaced at a certain interval? If not, I have a workaround, but I'd like to use the spaces already provided for QSOs. Thanks! 73, Joe KQ3F
