[Dx4win] Dx4Win Updates

2022-10-14 Thread David Pollard
I have not been seeing any new updates for at least the last couple of
weeks and I know that there have been country updates at the very least. I
am running 9.09.1259. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help. 73, Dave,
N5IT.

Re: [Dx4win] Updates

2020-01-12 Thread ON4AOI
Hi Paul,
I explain some more,
All the programs are starting from WSJT-X (author K1JT) open source and
Make different screens etc. BUT they all use the same HAMLIB rigfiles.
For instance Yaesu FT-817ND - FT857 - FT897 are not working with these hamlib
rigfiles
After I complained so many times they finally will look into it deeper.

Check WSJT-X webpage also problems

   Release: WSJT-X 2.1.2
 November 26, 2019
   -

WSJT-X 2.1.2 is a bug fix only release which fixes a major regression
in the Hamlib package bundled with WSJT-X v2.1.1.

This was for ICOM radio problems

   Release: WSJT-X 2.1.1
 November 25, 2019
   -

WSJT-X 2.1.1 is a bug fix only release addressing regressions in the
prior v2.1.0 release.

All new radio's are not direct compatible with these third party hamlib files
so can't work either

This is my point Paul, when you have a rig that works with these hamlib files
it's ok.
But when it doesn't work and have to wait until they fix it or make a driver
for it
You have a problem, If Radio is not connected it can broadcast wrong data to
DX4WIN.
At this point it's your own mistake and you can correct b4 upload.
But If it gets automatically uploaded on LoTW etc some could or will write
this garbage is sended out by DX4WIN users ..

Hi Guy, Hi all
I am not a specialist, but what is the problem when the FT8 (to make it
short) programs get the frequency from the rig (therefore is correct), logs it
into the adif file that everyboidy knows about, and DX4Win can "eat" that
informlation automatically ?
I see no room for mistakes...
Well, I must admit I see no way how you can make a mistake using ythose
programs and call o the wrong period, like several people have done. If yoy
doucble-click on the station you want to call, there is no way you can do a
mistake,... Anyway, this is another matter...
Which other programs do not have the UDP broadcast ? Anyone here using them ?
Or just the 3 you mentioned ?

If people's logs have mistakes, whether they auto-upload or they upload later,
they will both carry the error

My 3 cents !

Re: [Dx4win] Updates

2020-01-12 Thread ON4AOI
Paul (F6EXV) and others HNY 2020,
Concerning your wish list I have some serious doubts if this be a full idiot
prove upgrade.
With the option "Enable logged contact ADIF broadcast" Paul, I should write
the program"DX4WIN" can listen
to the UDP broadcasts when using the latest versions of WSJT-X - MHSV - JTDX
and log that contact.
- But what about WSJT or other programs without this option that users may
use ?
- These programs depend on Hamlib radiofiles and I know 100% sure there are
Rigs that are not supported
or give errors all the time.
- In this case you have to disable your rig and use the program like it is
except for fox-hunt it will work ok,
but when you change bands and forget to change to the correct band your log
will be incorrect.
That's why I have been always against auto upload to LoTW-eQSL-Clublog

"IF" Auto upload to LoTW- eQSL - Clublog would be a fact
"THEN" it will create so much garbage and keeping those servers busy all
the time
like It is already with eQSL.
Daily I get wrong eQSL's in my inbox, most of the time its wrong band or
mode

My point is that grabbing broadcasts from the UDP server and log it would be
a nice feature
but
Never auto upload like some other programs do and create massive garbage.

Manually creating LoTW etc uploads doesn't consume that much time and in
case something is wrong
With your log you normally will see it b4 you upload.

My 2 cents

Hi all
To the developper team,
Can we caress the hope of having next release to allow dX4Win to
interoperate with WSJT/JTDX for direct logging, automatic upload to ClubLog,
automatic/easy procedure to upload/download to/from LoTW.
LoTW/ aand Clublog operation has an application that works well with other
logging f=programs : it is called L32LogSync. Could something equivalent be
expected ?

I hope to get an answer, as many users I am sure would love thse to be
imlemented.

Re: [Dx4win] Updates

2020-01-11 Thread Luc
I think we would all like a future update to add what Paul says.
But if it has not been done, it is for some reason. Perhaps its author, or
Jim can tell us if it is viable in a future update.
Greetings to all.

Paul, I agree that we need direct logging via UDP broadcast with
WSJT-X/JTDX. Especially before the 6 meter E season this summer.

Hi all
To the developper team,
Can we caress the hope of having next release to allow dX4Win to
interoperate with WSJT/JTDX for direct logging, automatic upload to ClubLog,
automatic/easy procedure to upload/download to/from LoTW.
LoTW/ aand Clublog operation has an application that works well with other
logging f=programs : it is called L32LogSync. Could something equivalent be
expected ?

I hope to get an answer, as many users I am sure would love thse to be
imlemented.

You can't rely on the file date of country.dat - it gets re-written
every time you exit DX4WIN.

Instead, try this. It has been this way for a long time:

http://www.country-files.com/contest/#Version

The instructions aren't technically correct for DX4WIN, but the same
principle holds:

In your logging program, try to log the callsign “VERSION” (on a
DX cluster node, use the SH/H VERSION or SH/SUN VERSION command). Each
version of the country files will return a different country (except
for Win-Test, see #3 below). That country will be indicated in the
release notes for that version.

I need to add this information to this page, but I have not had time:

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Updates

2019-11-02 Thread Jim Rhodes
I saw these messages come across and didn't remember when I last saw
updates, so I opened up my save directory and saw that there were new .dat
files in there from Oct. 23rd. So I am up to date. But when I type
"version" in the call field and tab the date that comes up is Oct. 16th,
the date I updated to version 9.07.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN Updates

2019-11-02 Thread Brian Bird via DX4WIN
I’ve sent this reply to three other people direct but thought maybe I should
post here for everyone and let them know what I found as this seems to be more
than just my issue.

WA7AA showed me how to view my data base date. On a new add QSO window, type
version in the call window and then tab. The data should show up as Niger with
a date in the manager position. That date reflects the data base date. I did
this and it showed 16 OCT 2019, the date of the latest update.

So now my question is how did my program get the latest update? There is only
the one way to update version 9 and that is under help/check for updates.
Thinking this must have been a “senior” moment on my end but several of us are
seeing this for whatever reason. Something here has maybe changed? I cannot
explain that and the next update that gets announced I will be looking at this
very closely to see what happens. But for now it appears I am running the
latest update and all is well.

Check your data base for the date. It will be very interesting in what you find
as it sounds like a few of us are seeing this if you think your having an
update issue.

[Dx4win] Updates on the updates !?

2018-03-07 Thread Bob, N5RP

Well,
I run 9.0.3.1160, and that is that !!
Anything later eludes me.

Somehow, I found:
http://www.dx4win.com/files/updatesv9/

I went there and downloaded, the following files:

calendar.dat
custawds.txt
islands.txt
members.dat
mstrcals.dat
prf2iota.txt
wpxdeltd.txt

I went into my DX4WIN save directory and traded out the above list of
older dated like files

with the just downloaded newer dated versions.

All appears to work well.
I guess that is how I will update, going forward.

John,

Even better is to write your own radio driver and share the results!

All the tools to write and test a radio driver are part of DX4WIN.

2016-03-10 Thread John (N1JP)
Good morning, I don't mean to speak for Paul but I got the impression that
DX4WIN is here to stay. There were complaints from some users that they had
purchased a new radio that was not supported by DX4Win. Paul explained on
this forum that the only way he can support a new radio is if someone or
somehow he can get his hands on those new radios that are not supported so
he can write code for them. Then he can verify that his program can
communicate with those radios for computer control. If you bought a new
radio that is not supported, contact Paul to make arrangements to send it to
him.

Like others, I have been very satisfied with your wonderful program. As a

powerful and has lots of features but also must work with my screen reading
software. DX4Win does both. Now, please just let us know your intentions.

Here, here...it's been a great run for a solid program and Paul never asked a
lot for upgrades over the years. It always worked when many failed. I've run
this program since changing from the DOS vetsion of DX Base and it's always
been solid. I was a beta tester for a number of the early versions as it was
bring developed. If this is the end of an era, it's been a good ride Paul :)

I have been a happy user of the prog for more years than I care to count
but I am now in the process of changing the PC in the shack for a modern
machine running Windows 10. I am therefore thinking I should be using a
modern logging program such as, maybe, Logger32. However If there is going
to be a new version of DX4W, I would prefer to continue with this.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4Win UPDATES?

2016-03-09 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi Andy,
I, and others, have been asking the same question several times here, but there
was never any response. I fear Paul was frustrated because of some offending
messages and has decided to let this program die..

Can anyone advise me if Paul is going to update DX4W?

I have been a happy user of the prog for more years than I care to count

machine running Windows 10. I am therefore thinking I should be using a
modern logging program such as, maybe, Logger32. However If there is going
to be a new version of DX4W, I would prefer to continue with this.

Re: [Dx4win] Updates - LPB2

2014-01-05 Thread Ernie
Lou, thanks for the tip about the LPB2 program. I didn't know it was out
there.

I installed LPB2 and it does exactly what I need it to do. I have it
running right now with my Yaesu FT-950, DX4Win, HDSDR and N3FJP contest
program. They all know what the radio is doing now.

Thanks again for the 'tip of the day'.

The rest of your post can be added to our joint 'wish list'Hi
Hi...along with updated rig files or movement to OmniRig...along with
an update Submission Sheet showing LOTW, Hard QSL or EQSL (EQSL yuck!,
sorry, editorial comment!)

Even the Report Generator is missing simple drop down indicators under
Report/ Action, Modes and Bands, showing different selections. This
was reported and not acted upon by Paul many versions ago...multiple
rotor controls...two (or more) telnet sessions...WWV numbers on the
Map Screen or on top of the QSO windows...simple integration of
digital programs, MMTTY/2Tone, better PSK31 integration...

DX4WIN is a remarkably simple, stable but outdated piece of software.
Paul did a great job with it many years ago but alas, now it just
flounders in limbo with little support or enhancement from him. If it
wasn't for Jim AD1C's tremendous support, I would have moved off this
archaic platform a long time ago. There is little or no reason why
AD1C's enhancements were not embraced, supported and incorporated by
Paul.

We, dear fellow DX4WIN users, are 'caught' in an trap...move off to
another and abandon what we have learned ...or stick with DX4WIN and
hope someone will get this platform back on the track.

Flaming each other does little or nothing to enhance or move this
topic forward.

[Dx4win] Updates - My LoTW Opinion and a Question

2014-01-05 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Relative to LoTW improvements: One of the great features of DX4Win is it's
ability to handle multiple logs, whether they are DXpeditions, grid
expeditions or just a club call. Using the Groups and Selections choices,
they can be combined or separated easily. LoTW requires that some of these
logs be signed (by TQSL) individually (for example, an operation from a
different grid square). I believe that any attempt to reduce the number of
"clicks" to shorten the LoTW upload process will degrade this feature.
Incorporation of additional information from LoTW in the download process
is a great idea, although I think LoTW is not a mature system and waiting
until it settles out has some merit (the recent upgrades to TQSL are an
example). I can handle a couple extra "clicks" for a while longer.

My question: Can someone explain the XML interface to QRZ.com? Is this is
an automated download of address or similar information? In my experience,
much of the information in QRZ.com is poorly formatted and occasionally
just plain wrong. If you only work USA stations, it is pretty consistent,
but not so for DX stations. Help me out

Thanks, 73 and HNY to everyone.

Bud N7CW

PS - thanks again to Jim for all his hard work and support.

Re: [Dx4win] Updates

2014-01-05 Thread Barry

Well said, Lou.

I am another early adopter of DX4WIN, from back in the early days of
Windows (3.1?) I started with DXLOG (for DOS) and after a number of
empty promises of a Win version from its developer (who lived 5 miles
from me at the time), I switched to DX4WIN.

There are things DX4WIN could do better and more efficiently. The only
reason I'm still with it is I don't actively chase awards or (paper)
QSLs any more. If I did, I would have jumped ship a number of years
ago. And if it weren't for AD1C's generous support, I don't believe
there would be many users left today.

resulted from the "operating" was the job of the program.

Over time the intellectual property owner has chosen to add

As purchasers and users all we can properly expect is that the

logging/operating features. If the IP owner chooses to add them, fine.

It seems a bit unreasonable to use the "product user reflector" to

Of course there is nothing wrong with making suggestions that the

was present seems reasonable.

Building a list of features that users "wish" were present seems
reasonable too; particularly if maintenance of such a listing is not
expected to be the job of the IP owner. It would be even nicer if
someone had that list on a web site so it could be referenced by

[Dx4win] Updates

2014-01-05 Thread William Osborne
Potential Updates:

I agree with all Kostas said below. Especially decoders for more digital
modes or the ability to integrate them. A CW decoder would be quite
helpful, I have external one but it is just one more thing to remember to
open and close. I would also like to have much more control over the
cluster info. In fact be able to set it up by band. For example, on 160 and
80 I would like to see worldwide spots but on the other bands not so much.
Also, when working 160 I would like to limit my view to just 160 spots and
same with some other bands. I would also like to see any time someone spots
me on any band as this is often a message and a spot (VE7CC does most of
this but is not connected to my Log). Omnirig support is potentially a deal
breaker all by its self if it becomes the defector
SDR/Transceiver/Pan-Adaptor interface.

HNY and 73,

Bill, K5ZQ

Thanks,

===SV1DPI

HNY to all,

Come on guys. All we love dx4win but it needs to be updated. If you use rtty
for example, you really need a better decoder as 2tone is. A cw decoder
maybe? New features have been asked many times and there are big lists in
archive. Even I personally need support for 2 rotors for example, maybe it
is not so important as others... For example:

1. support for omnirig. This makes easier parallel control of an sdr
receiver and your rig.

2. As the subject of the email says: Better support with lotw, as one button
upload, one button download, selective dxcc submission with lotw qsos, or
cards or both, compare with online credits, etc.

3. Support of new modes. Some guys of us, use new digi modes that are not
supported. A new editable database with modes is the best option.

Also RST must accept new reports.

4. Support of ocx. This makes mmtty support easier and let us to use other
digi programs as well as mmvari and 2tone for example.

5. Logger32 (its author is SK some years ago but it is updated

regularly!!!) already supports connection of its database for countries with
clublog. This makes ad1c's life much more easier and we can have one general
acceptable database.

and much more that Paul has read and I hope has noted.

The bad thing for me (worst than not updating) is that Paul, the author of
the program, does not say to us his thoughts for all these. I would like to
hear his opinion, even it is something like "dx4win is my last priority and
I don't think I will update it the next 30 years"(I hope not saying it)...

[Dx4win] Updates coming, wait for the last one

2010-10-03 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Hi Folks,

I'm about to release a number of DX4WIN data file updates. If you're
using the update utility:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/update.htm

I suggest you wait until you see the country file (DX4WIN.CTY)
announcement before running it. This will save you having to update
multiple times.

It's been through a workout for a couple of weeks now with several
bugs fixed. At this point, I'm looking for more testing before I push
it towards the ARRL as an "official" release.

Great. I assume this is a "beta" for what will become the "official"
version? I'll give it a try next upload.

[Dx4win] Updates to TrustedQSL

2010-03-14 Thread Rick Murphy
Since there's a number of Logbook of the World users that are also
DX4WIN users, I'd like to mention that I've been working on updates to
the LoTW software to fix some of the long standing user requests. The
updates include requiring proper ITU and CQ zones based on DXCC
entitity, corrections for US county names to match the ADIF standard,
fixing problems with certificate import and export, many new operating
modes, and a bunch of user interface fixes.

This isn't official ARRL software, but if you're willing to give it a
try, I have a webpage at http://www.rickmurphy.net/lotw/ with pointers
to my builds of the TrustedQSL software.
Please give it a try and send me any feedback.

Jim, I am sure you are already on top of this, I wanted to share with the
group in case they wanted to mod their cluster data file (cannot remember
how to do that, but I saw it in the past and it's not difficult.)

[Dx4win] DX4WIN updates

2004-04-13 Thread Paul van der Eijk
Hi,

In the hope of stopping the stream of questions about what is new/fixed
in the next release, see below. I'm still working on getting the serial
port back for PTT in the PSK Window. These descriptions maybe
cryptic; they are my own notes

Paul

//Version 6.03
// Corrected QSL manager editor (dates were wrong)
// Corrected ADIF import band conversion for higher frequencies
// Added support for prositel rotator
// added extra priority level to distinguish worked or not bm combo
// wrote routine to get text after double-click in PSK31 window (behavior
varied by operating system)
// New award band was tested incorrectly
// Added option to set QSLDate when setting QSL method in multiple QSO
operations
// small correction in award file (Darrell)
// small corrections in dx4win.tcp file
// spots were not always saved when closing program
// MaxQSOs per label could only be changed for one custom labels but now we
keep two separate values
// After changing the current Selection, the default group is set to that
selection so adding or importing QSOs will get the group by default
// Merging QSL managers lists actions
// Changed prefix logic (ignored stuff on right only like /R and /MM)
// Automatic update day and night fixed
// DOS box showed under Win/XP when calling an external program
// Spot colors for 'nothing special' could not be changed
// QSO import no longer changes 59 seconds to 58 seconds
// Typing in packet window without an established connection will show the
select connection dialog
// When the QSLDate is empty, the up-arrow will set the date to todays date, a
down-arrow sets the date to the QSODate
// Marking additional QSLs for printing takes mailed cutoff into account if
there is a QSL manager
// Removing duplicate QSLs for printing no longer clears the print flag when a
QSO was confirmed.
// Corrections in Kenwood radio file (thanks to Don, W0DJC)
// Made Freq column wider in progress report
// Grids were case sensitive
// Added 60M band
// Added time column to WAZ submission reports
// rstR = 0 or ValidDX = Invalid are now indicating an invalid QSO for any award
// Added Upload fields to QSo window (Upload, Upload Data, Upload confirmed
//   QSO: Update, Search
//   QSO Window size
//   New I/E filter for dx4win
//   Set/Clear Upload flags
//   Added to logbook
//   Same call window
// Added option to select what counts as confirmed
// (card, upload or both; this is reflected in reports, spots and
summaries)
// Import (merge) can use imported QSO for confirmation only
// (we can set confirmed or upload confirmed
// (may need more fields to update, like state, zone etc)
// Rewards no longer require a minimum number of qualifying QSOs (like 100 for
DXCC)
// Changed country database & import/export filters to follow Jim's (AD1C)
database
// Band / Mode also updated for current spot when callsign field is empty
